A few months ago I switched my tube rig for a QC with a PowerStage 200 running into my Zilla 2x12. I did it precisely to fit with this philosophy; cab for stage volume and XLR's for consistent sound to the console. I've always admired the tones you get both on and off the QC, so it's rewarding to see your presets are very similar to what I hashed out as I went. Thanks for sharing this Rabea!
Thank you Rabea for sharing your rig setup and demonstrating your tones. I'm an older player that was a die hard tube amp player but because of your videos I've purchased my first Neural DSP Quad Cortex and am looking at combining it with tube amps as well. The flexibility and convenience is just to great to ignore. Thanks again and you sound great!
In every instance I preferred the micd cab sound over the direct signal. Most likely the power tubes are just adding some saturation with the high end that it just seemed to have more energy.
Loving my QC. I’ve had all the other modelers and this one is so fun and easy to use and the amps sound killer. Finally started capturing my pedals this week and it’s super easy and sounds great.
I really dig the new tunes. You've got lots going on right now. The Victory amps are monstrous sounding...but, what I'm completely in awe of is that badass wall of amplification in the background. Congrats on the studio and all you've accomplished. It's definitely been a journey.
shocking how much better (clarity, definition) the mic'd cabs sound! might also start to bring onstage cabs with me after watching this video 😵 however, I usually pan my stereo IRs (inside fractal) to give it a wider and cleaner sound..
Also. Worth noting you can get the same effect with a good power amp and 2x12 cab. I run a Duncan power stage onto my 2x12 zilla fatboy and it sounds absolutely epic
How is the SD powerstage for bedroom playing volume? I'm currently running my Headrush into the return of my EVH lunchbox and Zilla Cab, sounds great but 15watts is pretty easy to tame volume wise. I'm looking at dedicated poweramps as i don't see myself ever running the front of my EVH again.
i agree with cabs on stage, much more inspiring than just an in ear monitoring of your guitar. in this video, i feel the mic'd tone for me is more powerful, cutting and clearer string separation/definition and would sit better in a mix.
I came here looking for a straight-forward answer on how to achieve a hybrid amp/front of house from the QC setup. You did not disappoint. Thank you sooooo much BEA! Loving the new VOWER tracks btw! Come to America sometime soon!!!!
I can't stop listening to Vower mate , such a fantastic band , I'm a h7ge black peaks fan , so it's a perfect progression from that band , with added Rabbea-isms , the vocals are fucking sick aswell , love them
That is exact how I run my live setup, but i use Kemper, into my Marshall's. I do get shit from time to time, asking why i do it this way, since the QC, KPA, and others were designed to be a more compact system. I just tell them to listen to it, it's the best of both worlds, consistent tone, and if the KPA goes down, I have my standby pedals to go into the front of the amp if it's needed.
Great video dude I am doing similar with less tonal mastery, one output to FOH with IR and One Out to a Blackstar Amped 1 into a 1x12 cab. Its awesome! Loving Vower, roll on the 8th July!
Great setup! I’m doing a very similar setup using an FM3 for fly dates with the Ultimate Queen Celebration. We just backline a pair of AC30’s which I run in stereo either using the fx return or a Seymour Duncan stereo power block. (older ac30 models don’t have an fx loop)
Those amps sound killer! I totally get the direct to foh (we do it also) but I reckon you should do a live blend of amps and direct… it’ll be sweet! So much air movement out of the cabs… love it!
This is so cool I’m going to have to watch it again and try it with mine. I’m trying to incorporate a 2x12 cab I just got but I still need to figure if I want to go with the power stage and which one.
Ha i was looking for a workaround where to position the IR block when using amps/poweramps and real cabs on stage (as an addition to the FOH out). Thanks!
I’ve been on the fence about buying a QC but I’d had to sell some gear to get the funds. Hearing about using an amp effects loop and hearing how well it works has cut down the cost I had in mind about buying a power amp, since I can just use my amp head into a cab. I’ve always been a pedals in front of the amp person as well so have never even used an effects loop
Hey Rabea. Amazing video. It’s just gold seeing how people use tech to get stage sound and FOH sound simultaneously. I have a question. With the amp model and the fuzz model. If you get to a gig and find for some reason you want to tweak the gain or EQ on the amp, can you tweak the model once and it’s updated across all the songs / scenes or do you have to change it on every song / scene individually?
funny enough, the thing that stood out to me in this video was the room verb on the drums in the single previews! haha the things audio nerds hone in on..good tones as usual though!
Ugh, I have GAS so bad for a quad cortex. I'm 3/4 of the way there, anyone wanna be a hero and help a bro out? Lol! I'll get ya back I promise 😅. Amazing and inspiring as always Rebea. Cheers bro 🤘🏻
A question about using the QC this way: I prefer to use a modeler into the effects return of a tube amp as well, but I heard that you have to use a full amp or capture on the QC, ie you cannot just use the preamp and shut off the power amp modelling component of the particular profile. At least, that is what was said on forums a few years ago, perhaps that has changed. If I can use various preamps into a real tube power amp via effect loop return I would probably buy the QC
Is there going to be a full list of gigs? I missed the Varnivool gig as i didn't know about it. I live in Bexhill-on-sea so its normally Brighton or a trek up to London for gigs unless you happen to play at the De La Warr pavillion.
Hugee! What a great rundown! I am curious how you dial in the thunderclaw for the fuzz tone? It sounds absolutely filthy yet has so much clarity and definition. Thanks again Bea!
Great tones! Thanks for sharing, I recreated some of them on the QC, and they sound huge! I was wondering, why are you using the QC onto the Kraken power section and not a dedicated power amp?
Sick rig dude ! Do you turn off the power section of the amp sim on QC before hitting the power section of the kraken ? I even don't know if it's possible 🤔
If you capture your out signal to a load box you can capture just the pre amp, if you choose to mic the cabinet then you will end up with a all-in-one scenario where the capture encompasses your entire rig from Pre-amp / Power-amp / Cabinet / mic (and mic placement) combination. I believe you can also just capture the pre amp if you use the fx return instead of mic'ing your cabinet. (There may be SOME small coloration doing that third method but it will be very insignificant) to directly answer your question, no you cannot shut off a power amp section from a capture as far as I am aware, that being said I would be VERY confident that Rabea would of used his OX BOX as a load box and collected his 6L6 and EL34 versions of the Krakens... gotta love this rig its so nice!
Great video Rebea, I can't wait for the preset on Cortex Cloud. I have a technical question for you. Doesn't it bother you that in such a configuration, the sound you hear on IEM headphones (IR) is different from the one from the speaker behind you when using the QC+AMP connection? Perhaps a better solution to get the same sound behind you as you have in IEM and PA would be a high-quality FRFR speaker? Then it would only be necessary to use the Victory capture instead of modulation. And one last question, even if you turn off the preamp in the QC, you still duplicate two power amps (quad cortex and the physical amp) - doesn't that affect the sound you hear from the speaker? Regards.
Interesting and quite noticeable difference between the mic'd cabs and direct out through the IR in terms of feeling of depth and stereo image. Did you pan the mic'd cabs left and right in the mix for this video? The direct signal is a blend of two IRs but straight down the center, whereas the cabs sound like they're hard-panned.
what about if you have to put AFTER the IR or the cab on QC a delay and/or a Reverb? You have to replicate that in Row 4 to send them to the cab in stage?
Just comenting to say vower is f awesome. Hope you guys can land a opener on a tour for a big name. More big acts need to endorse bands like yours even if its just for a small leg of their tour. This is what i loved about nirvana. Kurt always put bands on their bill that had a small following/unknown. But he knew they were awesome and then they got a bigger following.
How much of the power section from the kraken is coloring the output of the cab? Or is it mostly the cab construction mic placement? Also im assuming this is an ir of a similar config? Im nerding out XD both sound great
I thought this video very interesting, with my band we are planning to get a QC , we had all our shows this year played through two EVH 5150 III 50W heads with 2 4x12 cabs , this sounds massive BUT is heavy as hell, and on top of that it takes a lot of place, when we go to a gig we have to take more than one car and it became a pain in the a... for us, that's why we plan to get a QC, but just one question , even though I get the idea of having cabs onstage for the feeling of it when You play , is having just a QC through the front of house enough ? we also plan to get some in-ear system as well, i'm a bit afraid that our live sound gets less massive (The only real sound that we can ear on stage being the drums...), even if we give all the intention that we always give onstage , i'm afraid that something's gonna miss onstage ; we want the QC for being quick and light when we travel as well Cheers
I have a question maybe someone can answer i have a valeton gp200 and i run it into the effects loop of my marshall. My question is running it like this should i use the cab emulations or shut them off
Hey Rabea, fun vid! Glad the Vower/Karnivool shows went well! Just curious, if you're using the preamp sounds from your original Krakens in QC, why bring the mkii's to the show instead of a poweramp? (like a Seymour Duncan powerstage stereo.) Is it just for the valve power section and for fun, or is there something I might be missing. Thanks!
So help me understand this process/ I have a Diezel VH2 with a cab, essentially Im running the split at the end so the IR goes through outputs 1/2 to the FOH, how is output 3 routed to the amp? Is it only using the preamp of the vh2, or am I actually hearing my vh2? Can you use the amps in the QC through the diezel? And last question is the master on the qc I was told should always be 100, in this scenario does that apply, is the diezels volume controlled by the qc master or the knob on the diezel?
Edit: With running the out's into the Amps, Are you running into the returns of the VX's and just using the power amp stage? I'd imagine if it was straight into the amps it would have that "boxy" sound?
Plugging into the amp's FX Return effectively bypasses the front of the amp (preamp) and just uses the powersection. That way you can load whatever preamp/amp model on your patch. The 4 Cable method is preferable if you like the overdrive channel of your amp, and just want to run effects infront of the amp and in the loop, the only difference here would be you would have to use an FX block in your patches. Any effects before the FX block (Overdrive/Noisegate etc) would hit your amps pre amp, then put time based effects after the FX block to route them into your amps effects loop. Modern multifx are endless amounts of fun and relatively simple to set up.
Great video Rabea, thanks! This may be a silly question but I'm just wondering how you have the analogue Krakens set up, are they just on a clean hi or low gain channel because all the tones are coming through the QC? What are the gain, treble etc. settings on the amps? Thanks again, I really love this background iinfo 👍🙏
For the loop effects, it looks like you are running the delay directly into the reverb. Is that right? I am running them in parallel from each other lately with clearer signal at the end of the path when both engaged.
This is how I run too! Interesting thing is, I'm going to europe and running myself, guitar player and bass player all through the QC. Not able to have everyone do the split tho.
Victory needs to make a tube power amp head with an EQ and a four stage bright switch for modlers and pre-amp pedals, I use a vintage peavey monitor head now running into my jcm 800 bass 4x12 bottom cab with V 30's with a koch superlead tube pre-amp pedal with super low noise now, Isold my jcm 800 head.
@@cedricboet yeah but I'm also going for stlyle so I want it to be in a head box so it looks like an amp head,I don't know if the KSR is flexible enough in brightness and mids to use for everything out there.
@@grumhagen8385they have the new rack version, but still doesn’t help you much. I’ve been toying with ideas in my head on how to make it look uniform as well.
Hey man, not sure how often you check the comments but have you encountered any nuances going into the FX return? I find my preamp captures on the QC runs far hotter than my preamp, and running hybrid comes with an odd immediacy that the amp itself doesn’t have especially with captures of other preamps (still spongier than the QC through an IR cab, and not quite as immediate as the real thing. It’s odd). Trying to overcome somewhat with an compressor and around -8dB on the output. Running into my 6L6 V40 too, so I’d assume there’d be similarities. Bro tell me I’m not going insane.
As your rig develops, are you going to include more amp models like the matchless stuff you did at sweetwater? If so, what additional considerations have to be made for the ease of foh? As always, love your work.
I have big issues with latency from any brand of digital equipment. I can always feel the latency difference and will never use anything digital in front of my 2555 or 71 twin rig. I’m surprised after all this time you haven’t made a video discussing latency that happens regardless of any brand of digital equipment.
Idk man, thousands of guitarists are gigging and recording all over the world with digital equipment that has latency and it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. Plus there's the extra latency that happens with adding cables, microphones and everything else in the signal chain.
No, 4 cable method you'll still use the amps own preamp generally, just running the modulation in the loop after it. With this the preamp is bypassed entirely so it's only using the power section.
Oh Rabea, I love this setup so much and I’m very inspired by your sound. I'm thinking of running my rig the same way when I finally get the QC. Also what tuning is shroud?🙃
I’ll be switching between the preamp of the actual amp and preamps in QC going forward, but I didn’t have time to get it all set up before these gigs so I just wanted to show you the process starting from here
@@RabeaMassaad Will that mean the cabs will always need to be miced because without the QC preamp on the front of house will be different depending on which preamp is taking over?
Sounds absolutely incredible man!! Loving the whole Vower thing 🤘🤘🤘
Amazing how much presence and clarity the cabs add. I was never sold on modelers and cabs together with a real power amp, but this blend sounds great

@@cedricboetyep that’s what I use 🤘🏽👍
How are you powering the QC? Are you using the included power brick?
i will go for QC, I’ m a Home player and from time to time I play in a small venues, what monitors/frf,etc do you recommend for my situation ?
As your rig develops, are you going to include more amp models like the matchless stuff you did at sweetwater? If so, what additional considerations have to be made for the ease of foh?
As always, love your work.
I think it's time to dust off my kraken and cab. For last 2 years only used qc direct.
Are these stock v30s in your cab?
The QC line out sounds like a blanket is over the whole thing and you're listening from a different room. Real cabs are so good.
I’m curious on one of the last things you said “one cable into the effects loop” is this not the 4 cable method? Sorry if it’s a dumb question lol
No, 4 cable method you'll still use the amps own preamp generally, just running the modulation in the loop after it. With this the preamp is bypassed entirely so it's only using the power section.
@@LordPodlington oh I see! so guitar into QC and then QC out straight to effects return?
Little late to the game here, but by any chance, is this loaded to the Cloud where I can download to my QC?
Oh Rabea, I love this setup so much and I’m very inspired by your sound. I'm thinking of running my rig the same way when I finally get the QC.
Also what tuning is shroud?🙃
The QC is like the best amp modeler out there. The fender tone master pro seems very interesting too
Nice!! just asking but couldnt you use a Stereo power amp?? just saying not dissing . I am dipping into the power amp realm myself.
What IR are you using??
Been running a similar setup for a year or so now, FM9 into a DSL40 Combo return, works great.
Any tips to quit hissing and noise? Almost always any preset is noisey. Im using a fender frfr
If these do actually get added to your QC profile, I will be making the switch from a Line 6 Helix in that exact moment lol
Is there any reasons for using amp heads instead of a power amp for the cabinets or is it just preference?
I’ll be switching between the preamp of the actual amp and preamps in QC going forward, but I didn’t have time to get it all set up before these gigs so I just wanted to show you the process starting from here
@@RabeaMassaad Will be interesting to see what differences you can dig out between the actual amp and the models, as a potential future video idea?
@@RabeaMassaad Will that mean the cabs will always need to be miced because without the QC preamp on the front of house will be different depending on which preamp is taking over?
Please please put the this in cortex cloud!!
hey rabea im having a hard time with volume levels for live :( i just got this qc and im not getting enough volume live could you help me ??
Who makes the the pedal board you are using? I really like that tiered board and want to get something similar for my QC!
it looks like schmidt pedalboard
