I'm admitting to being a senior citizen, but I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. It's sad that George left us too soon. It's also sad that Tommy has left us as well.
I'm big fan of Harrison's work (either with or without the Beatles) and I was never aware he appeared on this show. Thanks for posting this! After seven years- I'm still lamenting his demise from cancer. The "Quiet Mystic" left us far too early.
What’s amazing is this is only a few weeks before the GET BACK sessions began, and George suddenly looked about 10 years older. Maybe that line about “too much makeup” is true!
ALL the great bands had a secret weapon: Led Zeppelin had John Paul Jones, The Rolling Stones had Charlie Watts, The Kinks had Dave Davies, Pink Floyd had Rick Wright and of course The Beatles had George Harrison. Also, he wrote the two best songs on the final Beatle's album Abbey Road - "Here Comes The Sun" and "Something."
And since they only allowed him to have two songs per album, when the beatles were finished, he had a double-album worth of material ready to go. Songs on that album that were turned down by the beatles included: My Sweet Lord, What is Life, Isn't It a Pity, and All Things Must Pass. It was number 1 on charts around the world. According to Colin Larkin, writing in the 2011 edition of his Encyclopedia of Popular Music, All Things Must Pass is "generally rated" as the best of all the former Beatles' solo albums. Not bad for the "quiet Beatle".
I can’t explain why but whenever I see any of the Beatles, old footage I’ve seen a million times or things I’ve never seen, it feels like I’m watching video of my kids or my family.
Me too. They feel like home to me. And somehow, have always been familiar, even from the very first times I saw or heard them. I'm 43, so I'm not from the same time as them. It's some kind of magic(dream away..). I love them so much. They are my heart and soul💜
I could listen to George all day, such a great sense of humor and so very chill. That is what I always liked about him and Ringo both, they are pretty chill guys.
Beatles fans love all of the Beatles. We never put one over the other. God-bless them all. BTW, The Smothers Brothers Show was always very cool to check out. God-bless them, as well!
The vast majority of Beatles fans love all the Beatles, but that doesn't mean a lot of us don't have favorites. No criticism expressed or implied for those that don't, but it's important not to overgeneralize. Lots of variation in the Beatles fan community.
@larry saunders I was hoping someone would give a shout out to the brothers Smothers. Loved those guys and their show when I was growing up. They had a great comedy schtick together and always had great guests on their show. The video of Tommy on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where he comes out and does a great impersonation of Carson is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. ua-cam.com/video/oghxf-HS6go/v-deo.html
The audience reaction is what makes this clip. The excited squeal when Tommy says "I have a Beatle" -- then the moans when they figure the Smothers Brothers are setting them up for some sort of gag -- and finally the shrieks of astonishment and pure joy when one of The Gods actually strolls onto the stage. Great clip!
Ah, if only George would've sung While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the acoustic version. How sweet that would have been. Still, great to see him on the Smothers Bros.
The Smothers Brothers were never fully appreciated. They had a terrific show, and we saw "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" for the first time in the U.S.A. Great show!
Even as a little girl I thought George was the most gorgeous man I'd ever seen. Still do! Loved his music the best, too... God bless you, George!
Amen to that! bless him. He's the most gorgeous man I've ever seen too.

tygrl Tom Petty once said in an interview that George was actually very funny and had a wicked sense of humor. I also know that George was a huge Python fan.
"Ladies and gentlemen, mister George Harrison!"
Me: starts fangirl-style squealing as the girls in the audience scream.
Me: *freaks out even though I wasn't even born yet*
@Wayne Pitty Thanks for that date!
George had the best hair out of all the Beatles.
Paul had a good display of hair...yup Paul was blessed with fantastic hair in his youth..
It was jet black like Elvis’s
Yeah, like a fuckin' turban, as they would say.
So charming...love his outfit...what a handsome man...Encantador y guapo!!
the cutest guy and the best beatle in American Television I ever see
Grew up watching the SB's. I was almost 6 in '68...always loved George's smile and shy ways.
Both John & Paul were amazed at the talent of George Harrison even at age 14, he was an excellent guitar player & was asked to join their band,The Quarrymen even though he was so young.
George was so cute, sweet, and funny. I was laughing the whole time! :D
He's so precious 💜
A great sense of fashion and a great sense of humor. "Que the claps... now!" We all love you George!
An incredible musician and human!!!
George was gorgeous ❤️.
Still can't believe he's not with us
This was the time right before he went “full hippie look”; he was about 25 years old and still had “cute, boyish” looks. I wish he hadn’t continued to smoke. 😐
All The Beatles except for John I think had their teeth capped or replaced...🤔
All of them were smokers.
This was after, 1967 was the year of all that hippie stuff in them
This was a great interview. I love his clapping, and his cues. It was great. Lots of George eye candy to look at. :D
George will always be remembered as one of the very few best artist in music!! :)
George Harrison, what a freakin legend
WOW HOW GORGEOUS HE WAS. MY FAVORITE BEATLE
Amazing watching this and comparing it to 1964. George's confidence grows so much. He's truly lovely then and here.
Long time ago when he was fab.
He was a remarkable man and musician. His last words in this world were: "Love one another."
... and we should.
he was really handsome!!
Happy birthday George, we miss you!! :(
I was 9 years old and watching that very evening. So excited to talk about it at the bus stop the next morning.
That's pretty cool.
So long ago and yet it seems like yesterday.
I just can't say bad things about aby of the Beatles, they were all human beings with virtues and faults... and none of us have really met them, so...
George was indeed my favourite one, so polite, kind and nice, always knew what to say, and how. And of course, he was the sexy one... so misterious, with his gorgeous eyebrows and expresions, and his wavy hair :P I just can't stop looking at him ! Rest in peace George, I miss you everyday... Thanks for giving us your beautiful music.
Love this video. I am a Smothers Brothers fan and I adore George. Like his humor here too.
Just a shout out to another Tony Hicks/George Harrison fan!! So fitting that their sons had their own band together.
Words don't describe how much I miss George :(
Georgasm!!!!!!!!! He makes me crazy!!!!!! He's sooooo so so so so so so so cute!!!!!! I almost died!!!!!!!! He's such a wonderful person too.
Yes!!!!! He was sooooo unbelievable juicy & sexy as fuck, I have no words.
I'm obsessed with the word Georgasm now, thank you
He was also a Hare Krishna! Don't forget, that's his secret for being so cool
He is like drugs to me...😍🥰

I'm admitting to being a senior citizen, but I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. It's sad that George left us too soon. It's also sad that Tommy has left us as well.
In this clip, George was 24-years-old. A millionaire. And (arguably) in the best rock band ever. What a life!
arguably? are you kidding?
George tenía 25 años de edad.
Well so far they are the greatest band ever. They were so unique and original. They changed music forever.
Yeah Yeah Yeah !@@maumm5188
Apparently, George was at the right place at the right time.
Born in 88, but George is forever my man!
Always was my fave!! and yes.. he was amazingly adorable!!! Love him!
George looks fantastic here
ALL the great bands had a secret weapon: Led Zeppelin had John Paul Jones, The Rolling Stones had Charlie Watts, The Kinks had Dave Davies, Pink Floyd had Rick Wright and of course The Beatles had George Harrison.
Not bad for the "quiet Beatle".
harlon57 "All things Must Pass" is without a doubt the best Beatles solo album.
+harlon57 "Isn't It A Pity" was a masterpiece! Amazing, isn't it, that The Beatles rejected that song for LET IT BE but okayed "For You Blue"?
RAM was the best solo album
George Orr George is an acquired taste like the savoy truffle.
He is groovy. Gorgeous.
The video of Tommy on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where he comes out and does a great impersonation of Carson is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. ua-cam.com/video/oghxf-HS6go/v-deo.html
the entire time george was on the screen, i was smiling like crazy
I did that when I saw it in 1968, and I was 15. Now I'm 68 and I still smiled, but the tears also flowed. The soul of The Beatles.
i was smiling too because of the puffy shirt, reminded me of seinfeld
The audience reaction is what makes this clip. The excited squeal when Tommy says "I have a Beatle" -- then the moans when they figure the Smothers Brothers are setting them up for some sort of gag -- and finally the shrieks of astonishment and pure joy when one of The Gods actually strolls onto the stage. Great clip!
That brief moment of silence as the audience realises what Tom just said is perfect.
Leftover Beatle mania!
@@andyrudy8627 - Beatlemania never really disappeared.
Ah, if only George would've sung While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the acoustic version. How sweet that would have been. Still, great to see him on the Smothers Bros.
If they could have gotten back together, say, in 1983....the roar of the first arena audience when the curtains opened would have been a few decibels.
The Smothers Brothers were never fully appreciated. They had a terrific show, and we saw "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" for the first time in the U.S.A. Great show!
