    I read that the 140bhp engine has a different turbo, a different head gasket, a different compression ratio, and the gearbox ratio is different as well, compared to the 100bhp.

      Would u change the belts when u have the engine out like that , especially if it came out of a damaged van .I did it in one I changed in case the belts had stress brought on them in the event of an accident damaged vehicle the engine came out of .thanks noel

      @RR Continued I thought the same thing about mapping, but there is a lot more to it than just engine power, its how much torque the gearbox can handle as well, some maps can reduce the torque in certain gears, like first and 2nd and allow full power in the top gears, a bad power map and its goodbye gearbox, especially in the Ecoboost fiestas.

      @@noelmurphy5289 Changing them belts would not be necessary i think as its only done 18k. would have to be a hell of a hit to damage belts inside the engine. those belts should last 100k or ten years apparently.

    I am a 30 year ex ford tech / service manager. We saw our fair few of these on the slab and as you say Rob, poor maintenance is usually there downfall. Cooling is also an issue given it takes only a litre of coolant you have to keep on top of them, which is not always going to happen these days unfortunately.
    Focus were usually worse as had a different coolant pipe set up to the fiesta that blew which ford had a recall on but as many don't use main dealer for servicing were never changed and went pop!
    Good to see your method we never removed the front end took em out from the top. Cheers guys top job as ever. 👍

    I used to say that, 'days work' and often it can be but the little things just slow you down. Ford have always used stuff from 'the parts bin' some times things you don't expect. I know others makes share parts accross the range as well, it all helps keep costs down. I think it was wise to change as much as you could just for peace of mind. Nouthing worse than getting it all put together and finding something is different. Very interesting video, I will never tire of watching an engine swap Gents. Thanks Rob and Chris for another installment, we will see you soon.👍👍

    IMO squeezing 140bhp out of a 3 cylinder 1.0L petrol engine was never going to end well especially with the 18,000 mile service interval, great on paper but not in real life, apparently the Transit is 100bhp so swapping everything was a really good shout

    I bought one of those Epco engine lifters in 1968 for £99-00 brand new,worse thing I ever did was to sell it,they were a lot better than the junk they sell today,I used to remove an engine from a Cortina in 40 minutes,fit a new clutch and refit ready to drive away in less than 2 hours,these modern vehicles are ridiculously expensive to repair because of the repair times as these boys have found out. A Fiesta used to be a cheap little car to run and maintain but not anymore,how times have changed and NOT for the better.

    • @rogerblackwood8815
      @rogerblackwood8815 2 роки тому +2

      That reminds me of around 1986 when I had a Mk5 Cortina and a donor car. We undid the subframe etc and just lifted the body off like a wheel barrow. Then did the same for the new engine and it went in a breeze. A friend suggested that he did it that way and we thought, give it a go👍

      @@cmartin_ok. As a mechanic of over 50years I would love to know how you make sure the oil pump doesn’t fail,by the time you realise it’s failed the engine is knackered or do you have X-ray eyes to prevent these things happening ??? If you have there’s not a garage in the country that wouldn’t employ you.

    • @cmartin_ok
      @cmartin_ok 2 роки тому

      @@davidellis279 You can never guarantee that an oil pump won't fail, it could have a hidden material defect. But by sticking to the maintenance instructions, eg an oil change every year or 12,000 miles or whatever, you can minimise the chances of breakdowns and engine failure

    Eco boost engines require specific oil suitable for the wet belt….. not a lot of people know that. The belt breaks up, drops in the sump and blocks the oil pick up.

  • @glennbartlett416
    @glennbartlett416 2 роки тому +1

    What usually happens on these engines is bits of the wet timing belt brake up due to lack of oil changes and either seize up the engine due to ignoring the oil light or the turbo gets ruined, I've repaired 2 of these engines by cleaning and overhauling the oil pump, replacing the turbo and changing the timing belt, using a torque multiplier on the crankshaft pulley bolt

    • @Elconbrioso
      @Elconbrioso 2 роки тому

      Interesting to hear what you have to say - about using a torque multiplier on the crank bolt. My Daughter has an 2011 reg , with the 1.4 petrol engine ; it was due a cambelt change and I was getting myself primed up to have a go myself. I have no garage and no lift . Apart from the fact that I would have to spend out on special tools, I bottled out of doing the job. I pictured myself , on the ground , and under the engine ( and getting a little emotional) - unable to undo the crank bolt.

  • @0067jon

    Strip that old engine if you get time.
    It would be interesting to see how badly blocked the oil pickup is and what state the wet belt is in .
    Even using the correct oil doesn't guarantee the belt will stay in good condition.
    My previous mondeo 1.8 tdci had a badly deteriorated belt after 80k. This was well below the 125k replacement interval and the correct oil and servicing was followed.
    There is supposed to have been a modification carried out on 2019 on ecoboost engines possibly a chain is now fitted.
    Wouldn't touch a new wet belt ecoblue diesel either.
    That's the main reason I have bought a passat diesel after 30 years of buying ford's.

    You guys certainly cracked on with this one and it was not like it was straight swap of identical engines think you achieved a lot in a day. I am old school but never thought these tiny engines were up to the job, personally I think a larger capacity 4 or 6 cylinder engine is the way to go if you want it to last and rack up a lot of miles!

    Not sure if any one else has mentioned this but worth checking the cylinder head isn’t different due to the two power out, ( valve sizes and cam) but hopefully it’s only down to fuel injectors and higher boost pressure, great vid lads👍

    I hope this engine is a good one. I admire your handy work. usually they made more changes than just the mapping to from 125 bhp to 140 bhp.
    The cooling system was usually uprated & sometimes a new stronger head & pistons but not alway depends on the manufacturer.

    Transit is max 99bhp . however you've done the right thing by swapping everything over as the block heads and internals are the same it's just all the bolt on parts that give it the power . Yet another brilliant video guys , very interesting as always .

    Maybe an idea for you guys to use guide screws the next time you mount the engine to the gearbox as then the alignment is bang on and for heavier lumps it does make it easier to move the block around to offer upto the gear plate

    Doesn't surprise me it needs a new engine. Those Ecoboosts with their wet belt designs, coolant failure issues, oil blockage issues etc were a terrible design and horrific in terms of reliability. Nice to see that you've replaced it like for like - just a matter of time before this new ones fails 😲

      Staggers me how a firm like Ford can get it so wrong. My Cortina MK2 is still running fine, albeit with a Zetec 2 litre.

    Lovely Jubbly video guys, to think that car could of ended up at the scrappers, what a waste that would of been. Wonder if those wheels had been plasti-coated rattle can, the paint did look thick where it had flaked off
