Les Paul may be old, but it's still used a lot by rock groups and thought of a rock guitar, while this Tele with wide-range humbuckers gives off a totally different vibe. I bought my first-ever Fender this year as well: an American Performer Telecaster HS. It's absolutely fantastic. Gorgeous (satin surf green finish, white pickguard, rosewood fretboard), plays so well (I'm still early in my guitar journey and I find it super player-friendly), and sounds great. I have a few other guitars, all different makes and models, and I love them all for very different reasons. That being said, I highly recommend the Fender American series. Worth it!

That demo track was beautiful dude. This guitar brings out a totally different side to your playing which is really cool to hear. Chugs are fun but variety is nice 😆
THAT DEMO TRACK WAS EXCELLENT as per uzhe, BUT understanding the guitar's strengths and doing something different was so cool! It was a bold move Cotton, but it certainly panned out for him! Great vid! New format is cool too. Nice to mix it up :)
I'm impressed by your realization that this guitar's strength lies elsewhere. I own one also and after playing it for awhile found how it works for me. By the videos end you seem to have really found a sweet spot.Great soaring track.

I like the format. I also like you playing to the strengths of the guitar for your demo track and not forcing chugging into everything. Not every guitar is meant to chug...
You know very different guitars expands you playing. I have a gretch that I hate playing but I still play it pretty often because I like what I sprite on it
This is the reason why the Tele Custom has a niche following. You have the trad tele single coil for slashy, thrashy, chuggy BUT you have the WRHB in the neck to do that almost les paul but still fendery lead sound thing
Some say he can't chug a wide-range humbucker set without a Klon clone, a Treble booster, 0.012 gauge strings, a bowl of Pho, a dominatrix named Madam Xantha, one full pantry, a full tank of 89 octane, and a swingset in the bedroom. But all he really needs is to swap them out with DylanTalksTone wide-range humbuckers with ceramic 8 magnets. And his 12 days of Christmas involves lace modeled on a curvy brunette. The man! I was going to say that you have plenty of metal guitars, and to leave his one as it is and let it do what it is good at. Then you said pretty much that... And then you did a pretty epic demo, completely different to what you would usually do, because you let the guitar lead you. Nice
I own over a dozen guitars including Gibsons and ESPs, and that is by far the best sounding guitar that I own. It doesn't like to chug but if I crank up the the distortion on my tube screamer I can get it pretty chunky. A little bit of chorus and reverb will thicken it up too. Maybe the most responsive pickup I've ever played. Do not leave this guitar in a hot car! it will melt the wax away from the metal covers on the pickups and you will get the most annoying feedback you've ever heard. Great guitar man. I say leave the pickups. It's nice to have something different hanging around. Having something out of your normal wheelhouse hanging around can be good for finding some new inspiration. Nothing wrong with having a dad guitar. We won't shame. Haha
When will people finally figure out that with correct use of eq that mid output pickups can chug like a motherfucker in the context of a mix. Wide range humbuckers can handle metal fantastically.
It has a unique vibe! One thing I like about fenders is you can buy the guitar brand new and sell off all the parts and break even, possibly make $50. Which makes it good for super strat/partscaster type guys. I typically like their body finishes and replace all the other parts. It would be nice if they’d change the old ass heal joints where the neck meets the body though.
Good job, Hunter. A "Dad" approves and enjoyed your video. I have my own DIY project version of this one, with a black Squier 72 Deluxe Tele body, Squier Standard Series Telecaster 22 frets neck in Rosewood fingerboard, Ibanez V7 and V8 pups, four gold Gibson speed knobs, and a 920D custom shop red tortoise pick guard on the black body, looks pretty cool although I am not a big black guitar fan (just don't have the time or skills to refinish, but it's cool). I always thought a Tele should have a Tele headstock, although the Strat neck is cool too.
Variety is the spice of life. If you have plenty of shredders, I would recommend just leave this one alone.
