I got kinda excited when I first saw this guitar then I heard the pickups tone it's too harsh glad I watch this demo video, Fender can do better come on !?
Just watched this guy in Manchester last night and my jaw was on the floor for the whole 2 hours he was playing, he’s clearly come very far and his soul was plugged into that guitar and the tone was so smooth, me and my dad were standing at the very front and he came out to sign and take pictures and was mega humble, I got a picture and being as I didn’t have anything to sign he signed a McDonald’s receipt I had in my pocket from the pit stop on the way to venue, what a guy🤘
I saw Kingfish in May of 2022 - I was absolutely blown away. I’ve been lucky to see some of the greats - BB King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Mark Knopfler, Derek Trucks, Peter Frampton, just to name a few. Kingfish is up there with them, and he’s in his early 20s. It makes me so happy and proud that someone from my generation is carrying on the greatness of so many guitar giants from the past. As it turns out, I was turning 30 in 2023 and was planning on getting a custom built guitar. After I saw this model come out, I went to Guitar Center and gave it a spin - absolutely loved the way it played. I bought it and have now owned it for a year. Beautiful sounding and playing guitar - my only complaint is I wish the finish was nitrocellulose, and I wouldn’t mind if they included some plain pickup covers in the case. Both are pretty minor issues to me. I’ve taken the guitar to a couple of gigs and just got back from traveling to N.C. with it. I’m very glad to have it in my arsenal - it’s a fantastic guitar.
I saw kingfish in London this year playing the whole gig on this guitar apart from the acoustic set, the tone he was getting out of this guitar is absolutely monster.
Hey Trog, I'm with you when it comes to Fender, I lean more towards the T-Type over the Strat. Just so comfortable and they play great!! Chris Shiflett from the Foos plays a deluxe and they look like a lot of fun with the HH stoptail set up. Love the Whitchhats too. I have an Esquire and absolutely love it. This one has got to be great for rock. Ehhh on the Purple, but a cool guitar just the same. Keep up the great work 🎸👍
As soon as I saw these on Sweetwater I knew I'd be seeing it here. It checks a lot of Trogly boxes for sure, right down to the purple finish. It's a little weird to have a microphonic pickup on a $2000 guitar, but I can't argue with how it sounds. That neck pickup is so full! And you were totally right about the bridge pickup coming to life when it was overdriven. Thanks for the review!
I love the purple finish, but if I wanted a Tele I would want the twangy single coils. I already have humbuckers on my Les Paul. If they offered a regular Tele in that finish I'd be all over it.
Kingfish is amazing. He should have had his very own signature fender guitar 5 or even 10 years ago. It's been really cool watching him as a kid and grow up and just keep getting better and better. He was amazing when he was a kid. As a grown man He's a force to be reckoned with for sure.
Very, very nice. But $2K? Seems a bit steep for what it is. I think I’d rather save $250 and just get the stock Tele Deluxe. Either way, I’m glad we got a Fender Friday!
I had the stock one. You are pretty much right. However the pickups are hotter and the bridge setup is worth it to me. Plus ole Kingfish has to make a little lol 😂
my daughter does not understand my guitar playing at all. but one day i got the kingfish playing and she hits a moment of epiphany with "hey, that's the guy you are trying to sound like"
I agree as a kid in the 90s I thought the big CBS headstock was it but now I prefer the smaller shapes if they wanted to be different than standard tele a small Strat style would look awesome on it. I just don’t like the look of the 70s headstocks on fenders anymore, but on Gibson the 70s headstocks is where it’s at for me.
I actually think the back of the headstock autograph is a decent place to put a sig model's name. It's unobtrusive there. Plus, at a Rush concert in 2007, I caught a glimpse of the back of the headstock of Geddy's bass, and his was the same as my two sig basses. His bass tech later confirmed on the talkbass forums that they'd replaced the neck on Geddy's main bass with a Fender sig model neck, and they also had a couple of the sig models they took on tour to use in the rotation, so I could have seen either. Nice to know that the endorsers ACTUALLY DO use their sig models, at least sometimes. Tony Franklin's sig bass is much the same, but the only place his name shows up is the neck plate. I love sig models. They often give an array of features you just can't get in stock models. Jackson does Adrian Smith's and Fender does two Dave Murrays, so I'm waiting for Fender to do a Janick Gers, hopefully fully relicked! lol
I’m worried if he doesn’t lose weight he won’t be here for very long. We need guitarist like him to hang around as long as possible. His talent doesn’t come along every day.
I love the look of this guitar and the 6 individual adjustable saddles, I already have 2 telecaster deluxe s and would love to have this but I can only buy so many guitar s, doggone it!
Awesome Trogly🎸《☆》Interesting Fender didn't include holes on the bottom of the Pickups🦓🦅No way to adjust the hidden Pole Pieces🎸🤳Nice demo & review Brother✌😎☯️
I owned a Troublemaker & miss it. The humbuckers on the Tele Deluxe are incredible. The Troublemaker's paint chipped off easily but it was otherwise a great guitar. One thing I don't like about this one, it's only 21 frets. The fact Kingfish's signature guitar has no belly cut is ironic. Price a standard Tele Deluxe before you buy this one. Fender's been asking a lot for these guitars & they don't even put locking tuners on. Edit - it does have a belly cut. I wasn't paying attention. The case has a mini insulin fridge too, pretty good deal.
Very cool. I have a AmPro II Tele Deluxe, which is similar. My guitar rocks and is a joy to play. I'd say if you dig this setup, you can save a bit of cash and get the AmPro II, which I think has better sounding pickups and coil splits. The AmPro II is a good value imo.

This is how guitar review should be run. Attention to details and specs and not just the same features that all other channels always check. Thanks a lot!
I prefer the Fender hardtail bridge, like on my Robert Cray strat, and especially the ones made by Hipshot, but the tunamatic type bridge maybe loosens the feel? Kingfish knows what he likes!
This looks so much like my "Troublemaker" Tele Deluxe except for the truss rod. While most Fender humbuckers are that "double tap" humbucker which I really don't like, the Tele Deluxe has Shawbucker 1 & 2 (neck & bridge). I loved that pickup so much, I yoinked the double tap from my American Performer SSH & put a Shawbucker 2 in there. It's hard to mess up a Telecaster, but Fender does this model right. It's pretty heavy, but hey it's Kingfish's signature, so weight can't be a problem, right? With matt texture paint being the rage these days, releasing a sparkle finish is pretty bawlsy move. What is the point of the double string tree on the headstock though? Put a GraphTech nut in that thing, you won't be able to force it out of tune. I'm not a fan of the Kluson though. Yes, they look good but Fender Locking should be the defacto.
This is just a lovechild between a Tele and a Les Paul! I bet you're really loving it Austin! You love LPs and Teles, so now you've got the best of both worlds. I still don't understand humbuckers in a Tele though. Those single coils are the Tele sound. Any other configuration is like a whole different guitar to me. Edit: This is one of the suckiest sounding guitars I've ever heard. It's all subjective though.
love the review....i actually like the bridge with crunch, sound like super raw beef but super soft uncooked chicken on clean, neck pups ok, sounded decent....problem is fender "wide" pickups are not the same as the old school ones (loller makes vintage reproductions), OG wides sounds more like a supped-up tele or parallel single coils....i wish he would have popped the covers off the pickups so people would have seen standard humbs covered in tons of wax, no bueno Corona factory....the "new" wide fender humbs are not real-deal based on original specs.....for 2k should be knob-pull single coil options to get twangy tones on the neck mixed with hums on the bridge...ive seen this dude play, lots of prince mannerisms in his solos, just wish this guitar had the classic prince tele setup option of single on neck and humb on bridge, adding the crunch would have been amazing.....for that price point need tons of versatility with pickup sounds...looks good in purple, sounds solid, but could have been a beast with single coil options, missed opportunity Fender!
The pickups aren’t standard fender humbuckers, they are a specific kingfish custom wide range wound set. You can buy them separately for £239. They release them the same time the tele came out.
Either those are single coils that look like humbuckers, or there is a grounding issue that you somehow didn't mention. When you aren't touching a metal part the 60 cycle hum is very present.
I own a LP Special with a pair of single coils, and you barely hear this 60 cycle hum (I didn't check out, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hotter output that those Telecaster ones).
That comes from my LED ceiling lights. The mic on the camera was facing backwards accidentally this episode so you got much more room noise than normal. Usually I turn off my room lights, but didn't this ep so that isn't necessarily this guitar's fault
That many signatures? I've probably commented way too frequently already how I have no love for signature edition guitars. Making them this visible and plentiful on one model isn't going to change my mind. I definitely dig the finish though. Purple has always been my favorite color.
Really interesting & helpful video! Lovely guitar :) One thought came to my mind when you mentioned the vintage style tuners: why doesn‘t fender use locking tuners for all of their guitars? What‘s the benefit of a vintage style tuner expect for the looks maybe? 🤔 I just figured since I always would prefer locking tuners over any other conventional tuning machine. I experienced that locking tuners are always faster when it comes to changing strings, the tuning stability also seems better.
Weird, I'm not a Fender historian, but I don't think I've ever seen one with a clone of a Stopbar and Tune-O-Matic. I only just started this video, but I wonder if this has a Les Paul scale length, too. I kind of doubt it, but that'd be really interesting if it did.
Been following Kingfish on You Tube for quite some time, so I am super excited to be seeing him live in my home town of Sheffield in the UK in October!
Tele Deluxe is my favorite Fender design. The Les Paul/Troublemaker style bridge on it is cool. These are great guitars if you're coming from Les Pauls but want some variation on that glassy or jangly Fender tone. In my opinion, the more Les Paul you can make the Tele Deluxe without sacrificing the Fender style tone, the better. Kingfish seems to hold the same opinion, judging by the choices he made here. The 12 inch radius is also great on a guitar like this.
I remember that but I didn't think it was Fender ? I can remember you could order a Rossi or a Rick Parfait Tele from a luthier in England a few years back.
To find the resistance of an unmarked pot just put that meter of yours on the outer lugs of the pot. I think it would read right in circuit on a guitar. Now if it was a pot in series with the negative feedback loop as an adjustable feedback control in an amp then you would get a crazy reading, at least with one setup like a 5f6a Tweed Bassman. But I think it would read right in a guitar circuit. I'm going to check when I get home to make sure though lol.
Sounds awesome I had the same issue with the Squealing Pickup on my Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster. Ended up getting the Neck Pickup Wax Potted. I shouldn't have had to do it with such an expensive guitar but the guitar sounds awesome now
Tried one of these in a nearby shop. Did not like having the "V" shape that you could feel in the 1st through 5th frets. The pickups are supposed to be custom voiced to Kingfish's specs. I would have preferred they used the Jalen Custom pickups that he uses in his Chertoff Custom guitars.
Just want to mention that the original 70's Teles had a wonky body shape, where the top bout appears meet at the 16th fret as opposed to the correct 17th fret.
I have one of these myself and noticed the microphonics REALLY bad in the bridge pickup and the neck pickup silent . i ended up removing the cover and fixing the issue .. i hope this is not a QC issue , as the guitar is awesome.. i almost sent mine back becuase the squealing was so bad .. but i love the axe so much i am glad i fixed it myself
Very sweet guitar, but I'm just not into Fenders. I've had a few very nice U.S made Strats, but for my style of playing....not a fan. QC looks pretty clean, love the purple metallic, a satin finish on a neck always feels the best to me, and I like the Gibson style control layout more. One of my issues with Strats is always hitting the volume control with my hand to the point I just have to remove the knob. Also, I don't like blade style switches. Looks like a very good value for the money. 👍
@@kenb9762 thank you been checking fender site and Sweetwater and didn’t see it anywhere normally it’s clear as day don’t have to look so hard for it . Can’t believe it’s nowhere on guitar or on the listing
Maybe the microphonic behavior is caused by the fact that the pickup is attached to the pick guard? I found it weird that it has a middle screw in the pick guard. I guess that they realized it and tried to minimize vibrations with that screw. I would try to put some foam below the pickup.
I saw kingfish last your at kent stage, his voice is better than his guitar playing. The loudest bass during a concert I've ever heard was his concert. But the show was great! I talked to some of his relatives, good people!
He's worth a listen. Nice looking Telly even though overpriced. Prefer the classic ash tray bridge old school look but that's just my asthetic preference. It's still a great looking instrument. Thanks for showing us!
It seems King Fish paid homage to a sweet little ole blues club in Tupelo Mississippi with that color. I think its called the purple plumb or something like that. Its been so long ago but the sounds are unforgettable.
are there any plans on doing a video on the new squire 40th anniversary teles? I've been going back and forth on whether or not to get one since i love the look of the neck, but i cant really find many specs, expecialy when it comes to how its routed
I love these people's opinions of someone's signature guitar and then wanting it to be different to fit their needs and not the player that designed it with Fender. LMAO the ego!! 🤡 s. On another note awesome break down, review, and test of a great guitar with the sickest finish. I love the K and crown on the pickups and if the pole pieces aren't completely matched up I hardly doubt anyone notices live or recording. The neck plate no one sees and the signature on the back is classy. But to each their own.
Very curious about that neck. Seems pretty cool. But otherwise, I'd go with a parts-caster ala Warmoth for a guitar like this. You could truly make your own dream Tele Deluxe for the same money.
Thanks for tuning in today!

Dude, I love this guitar! How many watts is it? Is it true bypass? Asking for a friend
Weird, I'm not a Fender historian, but I don't think I've ever seen one with a clone of a Stopbar and Tune-O-Matic. I only just started this video, but I wonder if this has a Les Paul scale length, too. I kind of doubt it, but that'd be really interesting if it did.
Check out the Troublemaker Teles. Those are basically Les Paul Standard and Custom specs. The first run is a set neck too if I remember correctly.
Check out the Jim Adkins tele
I think Fender did a Francis Rossi signature Tele with a "tune-o-matic" bridge
I remember that but I didn't think it was Fender ? I can remember you could order a Rossi or a Rick Parfait Tele from a luthier in England a few years back.
@@shaunw9270 yeah it might have been a deal where he bought a Fender and modded it, I've definitely seen Fenders (usually green) done up like Rossi's
@@shaunw9270 Also I think Trevor Wilkinson did a signature model under the Vintage badge
it's called a "Modern Soft V" in the custom shop guide
To find the resistance of an unmarked pot just put that meter of yours on the outer lugs of the pot. I think it would read right in circuit on a guitar. Now if it was a pot in series with the negative feedback loop as an adjustable feedback control in an amp then you would get a crazy reading, at least with one setup like a 5f6a Tweed Bassman. But I think it would read right in a guitar circuit. I'm going to check when I get home to make sure though lol.
I love how dark the fretboard is
Sounds awesome I had the same issue with the Squealing Pickup on my Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster.
Noted
V shapes are gross
Saw kingfish on St. Patrick's he was playing a guitar looked just like this.
Sorry if I missed it but where were these made? I didn't see any country mark.
I'd love one of those! I love teles, and I love purple guitars!
Just want to mention that the original 70's Teles had a wonky body shape, where the top bout appears meet at the 16th fret as opposed to the correct 17th fret.
Anymore info on this pickup design? It looks like a wide range but no?Humbucker sized yes?
NEVER to much Kingfish. He IS the man! 👏👏👏
Nobody deserves a signature guitar more than Kingfish, he’s a breath of fresh air for guitar players everywhere.
Man kingfish is amazing. I’m going to his show on the 8th of October can’t wait
Love this guy! Thanks for this video.
Sweet episode, pretty cool we got to see a Fender!!
Where is it made, it says kingfish all over but no made in or crafted in anywhere on guitar or fender site
USA
@@kenb9762 thank you been checking fender site and Sweetwater and didn’t see it anywhere normally it’s clear as day don’t have to look so hard for it . Can’t believe it’s nowhere on guitar or on the listing
Maybe the microphonic behavior is caused by the fact that the pickup is attached to the pick guard? I found it weird that it has a middle screw in the pick guard. I guess that they realized it and tried to minimize vibrations with that screw. I would try to put some foam below the pickup.
Hey mate. I have this issue. Where about does the foam go to stop the squealing?
kingfish is like a modern hendrix, he doesnt *play* the guitar, he *feels* it
Always sunny in Troglys world especially for B roll!
Only a matter of time before Trogly gets a signature guitar which will just be a giant volute with a stinger.
And a kill switch!
In silverburst
Beautiful instrument right there
I saw kingfish last your at kent stage, his voice is better than his guitar playing.
I just put $1000 towards one of these at guitar center. It's on layaway now. I should have it in a week.
It seems King Fish paid homage to a sweet little ole blues club in Tupelo Mississippi with that color. I think its called the purple plumb or something like that. Its been so long ago but the sounds are unforgettable.
I love my daily dose of guitar information
The only thing I'm upset is that it doesn't have a Telecaster headstock...oh well, still a great guitar. Getting mine tomorrow!
I just love the Kingfish Telecaster. Great overview as always! Better than a Les Paul.
are there any plans on doing a video on the new squire 40th anniversary teles? I've been going back and forth on whether or not to get one since i love the look of the neck, but i cant really find many specs, expecialy when it comes to how its routed
This guitar is pretty strange, almost feels like he wanted a Gibson, especially with the bridge.
Aside from the scale, I guess he couldn't pull that off with Fender
He was very explicit about that in his Fender artist video. It’s a Gibson disguised as a Fender.
Beautiful guitar.
That purple is so tasty!!! It looks so cool on your leather chair Trog!!! I think it should come with the guitar when you sell it!!!
Telecaster Deluxe came out in 1972. It was the 20th anniversary for Fender.
That's a nice guitar! 5:20 You could just measure the pots, you've got the multimeter
Very curious about that neck. Seems pretty cool. But otherwise, I'd go with a parts-caster ala Warmoth for a guitar like this. You could truly make your own dream Tele Deluxe for the same money.
I wish it had the Widerange CuNiFe pickups. That would be a killer guitar. Love everything else about it
Love the look but not a fan of the tones but yeah, I'd give up my preference for a maple neck for that rosewood.
Thanks for doing this video. I was very curious on this model. Not sure if you covered the Player Plus Meteora. I need to check.
The blues man keeping the blues going
