That would ruin the whole "premium guitar" illusion I suppose, most people just don't know or care that they can take a 800$ guitar and make it feel like a 2000$ guitar easily. Or in this case, make an affordable USA-sounding metal machine.
Never cared for EMGs. There's no dynamics in actives. Also, I don't have any problems with non-locking tuners as long as they're not shite. What you can't get with cheap guitars is good wood that doesn't weigh a ton and is still durable and workable, like real swamp ash or alder and rosewood or ebony. You can usually have one or the other but not all those qualities. It's not a question of _tonewood,_ it's about the weight, density, and durability. This costs money and guitar makers reserve those options for the premium lines made by the most experienced builders. It makes a huge difference.
@@yargnad I've got EMGs from 2003, clean tone sucks unless you want it to be an edge of break up sound no matter what. I like more weight to a guitar but that's personal taste. I have no intension of buying another guitar. Can't afford a decent guitar & I'm tired of working on budget just to make them playable.
I just did this with a Squier Affinity Tele Deluxe! Repainted in aged nitro Olympic White, installed Hipshot 6-inline locking tuners, and new Seymour Duncan JB/59 humbucker set. Great guitar for the price point (even after upgrades).
Dude I literally did a Squire Bullet mode n made a "Jim Root Style Strat" with just the neck pickup.. it's like a jim root meets billie joe strat..and I just sold it..man I miss that guitar..these guitarist are so remarkable!!
Hey Buddy, I wanna buy a Sonic Strat and put an EMG 81 on it. Consider the scale of guitar and 21 frettish. Is it gonna be kick ass guitar, and can i get an acceptable tone for Drop B slipknoty tone?
That Tele Deluxe turned out fantastic! I bought a standard Squire Affinity Tele for my teenage daughter and it's been a great guitar for her. The only mods I did were shielding paint and a triple tree from Music City Bridge. Unlike the Deluxe, wherever Amazon kept it guaranteed it showed up with a bumper crop of fret-sprout. I think I like playing it as much as she does!
The Affinity line sure has improved a ton within the last few years. As a tech/luthier I love to use them as mod platforms. they play decent out of the box quite consistently.
@@curtisy6234 I remember when the Bullet line came out and I had to tell my boss to stop buying them (2nd-hand store) bc nobody wanted them and we couldn't get rid of them and the juice wasn't worth the squeeze to have me fix them. The Affinity line has gotten fantastic! I don't mind setting up a decent budget guitar, as there are $$$$ guitars that show up needing help out of the box, so it's just SOP. Fret end files should be a standard part of anybody's tool kit, especially on the budget-friendly models, because sooner or later, unless some kind of miracle happens and the guitar has always been in the same perfect environment, frets will probably need some help.
@Agufish Thanks for Sharing.. Ooh, 24 years ago back in 1999 Blink-182 Third Studio AlbuM: Enema Of The State & The SonG: {Adam's Song} still sounds good today! You play good & NICE upgrade on that Guitar 🎸 ✌
Man, it’s so convenient you posted this video because rn I’m weighing all the upgrades I can do to my very same own Affinity Tele Deluxe! Of course, the tuners are a no brainer (I’m between Fender Locking ones and Hipshots, also will take the string tree into account) I also think a brushed chrome/mirror pickguard either plastic or via adhesive decal could make it look even more badass now that you’re using EMGs
I have one and wanted to upgrade the pick guard but couldn't find one where the holes lined up. I tried guitar fetish and warmoth. Hope you find one that works out!
It’s a shame Squier doesn’t make the Jim Root signatures anymore. They’re the perfect platform for modern upgrades. I have 2 and they’re still my favorites
I have an affinity telecaster and tbh it doesn’t need any mods. I got hipshots and they have gone out of tune more then the standard diecast tuners it came with. The pickups are quiet and kinda chunky. There is literally nothing wrong with it and it doesn’t even need mods, I just want a hotter pickup in the bridge.
As always a great episode🤘😊 You have really evolved durfing the years I've been watching your channel😊🤘 That guitar is exactly what I'm missing in my arsenal and that model is totally sold out here. Stay metal🤘😊
We got one of those teles in my shop recently and man, I was really impressed. Like you said, the one I handled had no fret sprout at all! based on our 2 accounts I might assume they're really stepping up the attention to detail on the new affinity series stuff.
Man I've been wanting a Tele Deluxe for a while now. But I'm more of a Duncan fan although,EMGs are great. This video itself is great for inspiration to do my own mod project.
it was definitely a surprise seeing this in my feed as I've been eyeballing this exact model to possibly match my Charcoal Frost jaguar bass! i've been trying to play some more guitar recently, so making an upgrade from my broken Amazon guitar has been seeming like a better idea recently, lol. i've been listening a lot of older rock bands like The Beatles and Beach Boys, so if i had to choose a song i've been playing on repeat, it would have to be Here, There, and Everywhere from the Revolver album. great video!
The tone got better and better throughout the video. No black magic needed 💜 💙 I’d love to get a guitar like this for my friend, I’m always loaning her my guitars cus her mom won’t get her one, plus she wants a Tele and loves thick fat distorted tones so I’m sure she’d love it ❤️
I agree with you 100%. I bought a squire Infinity telecaster and the guitar is beautiful. The neck was amazing the finish looked amazing on it. I swapped out the pickups with a set of fender 50 vintage pickups and I swapped out the electronics to mojo tones. I'll tell you I am so happy with it the guitar sounds amazing it plays as good as it looks great upgrades. All together cost me about $250 for the upgrades and I am quite pleased with it.
I have a 87' MiJ Squier Strat and a 2015' MiM Telecaster. Both have been upgraded with Seymour Duncan pickups, locking fender tuners, CTS and Switchcraft electronics, Tusq nut amd graphtech saddles. I think the best upgrade is a complete, high quality setup , by a talented tech. Which, in my estimation is the biggest difference between a Player series , Professional series, or one from the Custom shop version.
Ahh new Agufish content. made my day. I especially love the mod projects because frankly you mod guitars how I'd like to. Also gotta love the behind blue eyes riff near the end.
I got this guitar in the Burgundy Mist color for about $150, swapped the neck for a Warmoth neck that has a 16" radius with SS frets and the oversized CBS Strat headstock on it to give it the tele deluxe look, put on a set of locking Fender tuners, Tusq Xl nut, a Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient pickup set in white, and a Gotoh bridge. At little overkill but I had most of these parts laying around from past projects and I needed a donor guitar to make use of them. Worth it.
Emgs are so badass. I grew up playing an ec-1000 with them and they just seem like home to me. I’ve grown up now and play p90s and a lot more paf style pickups but I’m really leaning towards putting a ZW set in my Lp custom. Always was a dream to have the real deal setup
Bought the same guitar 9 months ago. Replaced pickup and made a forearm cut. Its a great guitar with a great neck. Only suckers pay $1k for a new guitar.
Usually people say emgs are "metal pick ups" but in this video the high gain sounds are very similar, but the cleaner crunchy tones sounded noticably better with emgs to me.
If you want the ultimate cheap sleeper shredder, look for a higher end Yamaha RGX model. I picked up a RGX620DZ with the leverlock nut, and I tell you people are missing out. I paid $360 for an Ibanez $1000 equivalent. It holds tune for weeks, has amazing dual tremolo, 1.75mm action, and is easy-peasy to change strings. Stock pickups are on par for their day. It's not a new guitar but it certainly will be refretted when I wear them out.
I'm a big fan of classic looking guitars that do modern things :) I mean I guess EMGs have been around a while but you know what I mean. I've got a bunch of S style guitars that I want to upgrade pickups in for a more modern vibe :)
I feel like you’ve become a pretty awesome upgrade kind of player! You get a decent guitar or in some cases, dead guitars and make them monsters! 🤘🤘 *EDIT* I was really feeling the sound of this guitar. Are the coils able to split and get a “Tele tone” as well? It's really cool to watch these mod projects. It's just fun and it's fascinating to see the end result. Nice, man! As far as a song I'm obsessed with right now, I'm going to go with Lies by Evanescence. Yeah, not a new song, but the guitar is fun in it and I dig the dual vocals.
I have a squier stratocaster from 2004, my first guitar, and after almost 20 years I am upgrading everything on it with Fender parts and EMG 81/85 pickups. Still waiting for parts to arrive.
