      Awesome score man! I still contend that these are over looked amps - just remember dont EQ with your eyes or what is "typical" and you will be very pleased. Tubes are the heart of any amp, so if you got it for a steal, another hundred or even two hundred bucks in tubes will be worth its weight in gold! If you end up making a video or a sound clip let me know - Id love to check it out! Thanks for watching and the comment!

    Do you think the roadster would be more versatile then a roadking?

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  5 років тому

      ꓘornhead The Roadking would “technically” be more versatile. As the RK allows you to mix and match both 6L6 and EL34’s. Meaning you could have EL34 powering channels 1 & 2 and 6L6’s for channels 3 & 4- or any combination thereof. With that said, there is a good argument against having too many options? If your needs are to have one amp that could cover as much tonal ground as possible - the Roadking might be worth looking into.

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  5 років тому

      ꓘornhead In short - I feel that the Roadster is every bit as versatile as a RK minus the headache of having to remember and replacing various combinations of power tubes. You’d be hard pressed to be disappointed by the Roadster. Thanks for watching and the question!!

    • @Person-cv9dj
      @Person-cv9dj 5 років тому

      Spearhead Studios Yeah I wanna invest in an amp that will do everything I throw at it because I bought a Marshall silver jubilee not looking into it that much and was pretty disappointed because it didnt have enough options for me right now im thinking about buying either the roadking a triple crown or a stiletto deuce as I think they each have a different sound that I like and Im still not sure but leaning twoards the roadking because it is the most versatile amp they make.

    High quality stuff right there guys. I like these kinds of video so much. Honestly, in the first clip i thought the roadster was amp B as it sounded a little darker to me, trough my speaker. I was please to see the opposite. It just goes to say how versatile the roadster really is. Both amp sounded fantastic, cant really say which one i prefer.

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  6 років тому

      Thank you Marc! Indeed it would be difficult to pick just one. Maybe the perception of amp B being darker could have been from the different mid range frequencies being pushed; which of course could be mitigated by some amp EQ. As I did not EQ these amps to sound like one another - the settings just happen to be what I had on them that day. Thanks again for watching and till next time take care.

    The Stiletto was the brightest Mesa I ever had. In theory it should have been a perfect meld of Recto and Super Lead. The amp was so loud and so bright even with 4 Gt 75's I couldn't knock the obscene high frequency's down.

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  3 роки тому

      Yea - it is borderline gawd awful bright- however - that is a great tool to have on hand if you need a lead or harmony to cut through a dense wall of guitars.
      Might not be the most well rounded Mesa out there- but its pretty good though - obviously tone flavors vary.

    Do you by chance remember the settings for the roadster? Whenever I dual track mine it sounds like im listening to it through a tube.

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  5 років тому +1

      There are a few things that could be going on -but first, yes my settings are As follows ( numbers reference clock position).
      Ch 4 Modern: Master - 10 o'clock
      Presence: 10 o'clock
      Bass: 7 o'clock
      Mid: 11 o'clock
      Gain: 10 o'clock.
      Something I will be making a video of shortly is - when dual tracking, slightly alter your amp settings so that way the left and right do not occupy the same frequency space- it doesn't need to be much- but tweak a little bit or use a different guitar/IR/speaker/mic - whatever you have at your disposal. Also if your tuning is not on point this can cause phase issues which can sound like a hollow tube. Its rare but I have seen it once in a blue moon - one can track so tightly that it can cause phase cancellation - thus giving you that hollow type sound.
      To wrap up- Id suggest try tracking one pass with Ch 3 and the other part with channel 4 - and see if you have any marked improvement.
      Thank you for watching and stay tuned- like I said I am working on a video that addresses this very issue that you speak of.

    • @devonkelley5073
      @devonkelley5073 5 років тому +1

      @@Jon_Tate Thank you! Do you have your channel volume set to a specific setting? Ive noticed that the channel volume will dramatically change how your tone is. Also, do you have it set to the 50 or 100 watt setting?
      Also I use a two notes torpedo live when I record. One track is a Mesa 2x12 and the other is an Orange 4x12. Both Panned to around 80% L&R. I think that maybe some phasing might be happening. Im not too sure. It does sound strange sometimes when I dual track like that.
      Thanks again!

    • @Jon_Tate
      @Jon_Tate  5 років тому

      @@devonkelley5073 Channel volume usually hovers around noon maybe a little shy depending on how hot I am pushing my mic pre. Right or wrong I tend to parallel my master output with my channel output. meaning if my channel output is at 11 o'clock my main output will be at 11 as well. So it kind of depends on how much I wanna piss off my neighbors - but doesn't vary too far from those volume settings. Second answer, is that I keep everything on 100 watts about 90% of the time - for all these videos it is set to 100 watts. The Torpedo Live is nice and I have one as well- the key thing there is to make sure that your mic distance remains the same, when dual tracking. There are some cool effects that can be had messing with different distances but that's a longer convo.
      However, you can futz with the side to side position as much as you want. In regards to volume on the Torpedo, I tend to keep it right at the upper levels of the green lights before the red lights kick in.
      Hope some of this helps man- in the mean time keep getting after it - nobody is holding keys to the guitar tone castle- hell I am still chasing it myself- just keep on experimenting and tightening down on the process that yields the best results for you. Thanks once again!
