At least it goes through shield, so not bad, I started a fresh playthrough and gave myself the sword and the carian thrusting shield, and it's not too bad.

For anyone wondering, this is now one of the best if not the best staffs at 40 int. It does however fall off on later levels, but if you are doing an int hybrid build this is a great weapon to have.
Very happy this weapon actually works right now and the scaling was fixed. Unfortunately it only applies to magic damage type spells so its useless for physical gravity and fire spells. It also technically hits with fhe balde when using carian slicer so Cerulean-Sapping Cracked Tear regens fp
It would be kinda cool if it wasn't though, in fitting with the world; it's an older sword, from before they were fuckin around with Gravity and Magma hexes (do any of the Carians besides Radahn ever use Gravity?)
I'm actually curious how well this might work if you combine it with the new main gauche, if the carian sword gets the alternate moveset. That could be a fun combo!

agreed. i play pretty much just spellsword and i think it's still better to off-hand a staff for mix-ups. this weapon's damage along with the lower sorcery scaling (it's apparently hidden) leaves it in a spot where it's suboptimal for both uses... for me, personally. still, it has its features
Hmm what I don't get is where would this weapon excel? What is its niche? If you go pure Sorcery a proper staff is better, if you go pure weaponry a proper weapon is better. It seems like you should just swap to a weapon if you want to melee and save FP or do crits.
This is the weapon spellblade players have always been looking for. I personally stopped using my staffs as much after my first playthrough, only switched off swords to snipe targets basically. I feel in love with this weapon the very instant I saw it and was using it constantly even before it got buffed
@@fukunaga-kane Exactly exactly!! The main reason I used the Azure staff even though it took more FP was because of how fast it could cast (and because it looks cool). So many times I swing on an enemy rushing in on me and need big boy damage so switch to my staff only to get crushed mid switch. (Happens more often latte game) This sword elevates the need to switch and creates scenarios where I can combo spell and chase with impaling thrust
@@fukunaga-kane there's no utility here as the guy above you said it's just for pve fun. Also using a staff to cast both incants and spells is way more useful pve and pvp.
This is awesome, I’ve been thinking about this sword lately, and I loved weapon catalyst build in ER Reforged Mod, can Carian Retailiation be put on main gauche? Main gauche power stances with thrusting sword, similar to wakazishi/katana
i really wish fromsoft would rethink spell casting, chooosing just 1 spell at a time and using wands for casting is not the way forward. weapon for spell casting must be for every weapon. you can tie an attribute that affects spell's effectiveness when casted by a weapon

The original carian knight sword should've been a sorcery catalyst as well. The item description is quite misleading.
Should be solid for a spellblade now, wish the AOW could be swapped out but its not the worst.
Swappable ash of war would make it an easy S tier weapon for me

It would’ve been interesting to have this weapon be buffed with the magic armament spell like it used to in DS2, that would’ve been really sick.
The ash of war should be a super charged version of Carian Piercer, or atleast do something magical

If you're on pc, you can simply backup your saves before each boss by copying the save files to another folder.

Yes if the blade actually connects with the hit it does. Works for the piercer gavel and Adulla's moonblade too oddly enough.

@@apophisstr6719 it also had before but it was extremely low, the value is hidden for whatever reason; it has like twice the scaling now
