- After foolishly running into the middle of nowhere with no plan or supplies, our heroes get ambushed and captured. These are the characters we're supposed to be rooting for. There's also more creepy shipping which is never fun. But they also go out of their way to make fun of OG She-ra for no reason because they just have to attack the original.
To be fair, it's not all bad. It's good to see plot progression and to see Adora follow the clues to get the answers she wants. Just wish we could get more answers instead of characters not learning from their mistakes.

Also like to point out that most of them are wolves and dogs. You know animals that cats are most of the time afraid of? So why didn't none of them put Catra in her place.

It's really hard for me to like these characters except for Kyle.
Catra has basically become a stone cold Mary Sue, and it's painful to watch.
After the series finale, Mary Sue is an understatement..
Fun fact! Noelle Stevenson, the showrunner, loves bad guy x good guy shipping. Her problem though, is that she doesn't know how to make a bad guy's relationship with the good guy NOT abusive. She romanticizes the bad guy so much that she ends up giving the message "the villain is right to abuse others because tortured backstory." So we got Catra, badly written as she is yet always portrayed as in the right, and Adora, victim of circumstance extraordinaire, who is in the wrong for leaving an abusive environment.
OG Adora had far more agency, more character, yet this is the progressive version of this story... I think I'm off to watch Secret of the Sword again. It may be cheesy, but I actually like and respect that Adora.
Oof, yikes. I'll admit that I'm a suck for bad guy x good guy and other ships of that nature ( zuko and katara ) but in order for them to work both characters have to learn from each other and accept their flaws and faults. Catra can't accept her flaws and faults, all she dose is blame adora who did nothing but be there for her. Catra does blame shadow waver who she knows manipulated her but she falls into her trap. If this show was better it would use catra as a way to show how people fall into abusive relationships and how hard it is to get out. Hell, if they wanted to push it further maybe even make it so that Scorpia was in a similar situation and wants to help catra, but has probably has a hard time expressing those feelings. It would be perfect!

And honestly I love GoodGuyXBadGuy ships too, buuuuut....I know they are one of the harder relationships to make work in fiction. Because if you aren't careful you'll end up with one of two different types of relationships.
1 - Abusive
2- One or both characters act OOC once they hook up just to make it a cute relationship.
And nobody with a brain wants either of those.

Besides, Secret of the Sword really was considered the passing of the torch since He-Man gave her sister his blessing and even proved that he might be a hero, but so can his sister, hence his sister kicked ass. :D

How do I always happen to be on youtube when you guys upload? oh yeah, cause I do nothing with my life 😂 This kinda reminds me of ATLA where the characters hop around from place to place, but in Avatar, Aang and his friends are constantly traveling and don't have anyone to save them if they get in trouble, but in this show they literally have a headquarters at Bright Moon and tons of people they could've told about their plan to go to the Crimson Waste, but they didn't because.... Glimmer didn't want to get told "no" by her mom? Great plan! And geez what did Kyle ever do to you, Catra? (also, great pun in the title!)

Yeah, the show feels like it's ripping off ATLA in many ways but the execution is terrible. Angella and Kyle deserve everything but Glimmer and the others are ridiculous.
It also helps that the world of ATLA is freaking alive and populated as opposed to a war with a few dozen people on both sides and a world of ghost towns and cities.

I think I am gonna check out the original series of She-Ra and see how much the newer series seemed to have missed the point of what made the original so great for fans and non-fans to appreciate of.
Trust me for it's age, the old She-Ra is still fun to watch and you'll notice huge difference with the characters and their characterization. Also the story as well.
@@PurgaB Mermista was in the OG kind, strong, ready to help and smart. But in the reboot she looks like a millennial pretending to be a teenager with a Lumpy Space Princess attitude.

5:40 It's Shadow Weaver's fault for raising her that way, but it's Catra's fault for staying that way.
Hell it's not even Shadow Weavers fault for real. Sure she was hard on Catra, but that's what is expected when you're a supposed child soldier raised in an army by a superior officer. Most of Catra's troubles are caused by Catra herself and she has only herself to blame.

Just seemed like you were blaming Catra for Shadow Weaver's part in this, which would have to assume that Catra joined willingly and was old enough to understand the ramifications, even though what we know about the timeline doesn't support this. Perhaps the writers should have spent more time fleshing out the Horde as an organization and less on 'comedic' shenanigans.
You're right that the Horde fails at indoctrination, though. If SW had explained the concept of total war to Adora, the plot would have gone in a much different direction.

The showrunners want to represent positive role models for girls and LGBT. But all these characters are terrible, unintelligent, abusive and downright unlikeable.
This comment proves why I dispise Noelle Stunkerson's She-Man of Nutflex. This proves to me that the stereotyping is done in a negative sense for the new show of She-Ra instead of making it, ya know, LIKE A GOOD REBOOT LIKE MLP!
All the characters, with the exception of Kyle, is downright terrible and unlikeable, and to think some Twitter and some new She-Ra defend this show when episodes like this makes me want to take out Noelle for making a horrid show. She is the definition of character assinating her own interpretations (and NO she is NOT the creator of She-Ra)
This is why I will never support this utter smut of a show.

MLP shows true friendship through songs, great writing from the Canadians (yes, even though Lauren Faust developed the show, in honesty, DHX Media, a Canadian Company btw, made the show shine bright like a shining star! :D), well developed characters (like Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Spike the Dragon, Twilight Sparkle, Discord, and many many many more), loveable cast (Tara Strong, Tabitha St. Germain, Andrea Libman, etc.), no needing to put an agenda, and had 9 seasons that didn't feel like it needed to be cut into 3 each (Nutflex She-Man unfortunately does this to FOOL the audience it has 3 seasons, when it felt like two or in actuality, 1 season to be precise, like how Reboot: The Guardian Code was 1 full season, not two since Netflix cut it off to 'believe' it can be like creating a seasonal show). That's why I bring MLP as a positive message since the show also promotes TRUE Friendship (MJTanner Twins hit the nail on the head with how the show has alot of negativity, toxicness and not to mention alot of bad shipping instead of likeable characters and such). That and it doesn't try to attack on male characters (ex: Kyle, poor guy, I want to hug Kyle from Netflix She-Ra due to him being a *BUTT MONKEY* in this show) and doesn't try to character assassinate alot of people there. It's not just the gay characters thing here (though lately, MLP did this correctly without trying to PUSH an agenda in their show), but how it is written that can either make it positive or negative in this sense (and with She-Ra of Netflix, so far, it's bad since Noelle WANTS to try to shoehorn it to *SELL* toys, which isn't a positive representation).
Sorry for the long thing, but that's why I'm happy that MLP 2010-2019 had a loving fanbase and not to mention a positive outcome, hence it's sad when the show ends. :'(
This show and it's abuse of Kyle, even if he's not there is really grating, not helped by the fact some of the shows creators saying he's in a relationship with Rogelio, who can't talk, meaning the most frequently seen confirmed LGBT male character is treated like crap while the other can't talk.
Next time, IIRC, we get an example of something that really bugs me with the lack of properly defined limits for Glimmer's powers. Some eps show there's a limit to her teleportation range, while others don't. One way to intemperate one of the coming episodes is that Glimmer was able to teleport all the way from the Crimson Wastes to inside Castle Bright Moon in one shot. Heck, in the first ep, Glimmer figured she could probably teleport to the center of the wastes if she knew where it was, so for all we know, it's totally possible. Stuff like this really makes me question if this show actually made a series bible due to how sloppy and inconsistent everything is.
Kyle and Rogelio are supposed to be a couple? Doesn't Rogelio participate in the Kyle abuse? This show keeps getting more and more messed up. #SaveKyle

Clearly they want Catra to be the Zuko of this show, since they claim to take inspiration from TLA, but the complexity they’re trying to match isn’t consistent and it doesn’t progress her. The only thing I would say is consistent would be her lack of reasoning, and that’s it. I’m starting to think that Starscream from Transformers makes for a better villain, and he was known to give up easily.
She a terrible blend of Zuko and Azula.
Starscream is a good villain, he's just not a leader type of villain. He works as a lacky to Megatron.
I thought the show wanted Adora to be the Zuko of the show since she began in the horde but switched to the good side.
Forbidden love ships are a thing ya know. EvilXGood or RivalXRival are really popular in fandoms especially the gay ones....so the whole CatraXAdora thing in the show doesn't really point to Catra being another Zuko, just means the team behind it is going for forbidden love.
And I have to admit, I love the idea of forbidden love. I'm actually gonna have it in my own webcomic, but it only works if the characters both don't hate each other's guts. It can't be one sided.

@@meanncat3050 Catra is similar to Zuko in that she wants the approval of her "parents" (Hordak and Shadow Weaver) and feels slighted/ betrayed. she also has Zuko's penchant for petulance. She is supposed to resemble Azula in that they are trying to craft her as this clever villainess who always gets the jump on the good guys and is one step ahead.
What they miss is that Zuko and Azula were two sides of the same coin. Both had issues with the parent of their sex and felt abandoned by them. Both had an image to uphold. Both wanted to prove with they were "worthy" of Honor/Fear. Both had breakdowns and were "stripped", which exposed to the viewer who they really were inside.
Don't even INSULT Starscream like that!
The ORIGINAL Catra was more like Starscream given her behavior and scheming behind Hordak. This Catra is just a forced 'PITY ME' character much like everyone else in the series.

Indeed. At least in Avatar: The Last Airbender, they did a better job at building up Fire Lord Ozai as the main villain of the show and Azula's insanity due to abandonment issues from her mother.

Just tragic, even if you have a character that gives up on life improving you don't just write them like this with no consequence, it literally all works out for her while she complains that life is hard.
Yet I still see some (twitter) try to defend this writing, just tragically underused characters
This entire goal of going here for info on Mara could've been so easily improved
- go to light spinner for info on the wasteland
- go In prepared but failing due to betrayal
- spend rest of season without the sword improving and growing
- rematch episode 8 or so and getting it
- still Catra surprise attack but as season finale or so
Catra story being inter-quel to Adora's
- resigns self to fate but pushed by Catra
- still annoying but put in her place by those with worse lives
- loses to tongue lasher and enslaved to his group
- finds resolve by Scorpia being a good influence and not creepy shipping, and being out of negative horde society
- fights tongue lasher for freedom from gang and wins by a true resolve for her life and Scorpia (fighting for others and bonds)
From there yeah she falls into bad habits bearing adora but that's for another season
I will never understand why people find catra so interesting. She's not and now she's full on irredeemable by the end of the season

I honestly never found Catra anything but aggravating. Everything about her screamed, "I've got a massive entitlement complex and I'm pissed off because this stinking world doesn't revolve around me!!"
@@anneoneal3865 Kyle is a far better character than a vast majority of She-Ra's cast. And he takes far more abuse than Catra's "supposed abuse".
I'm not against characters acting irrationally or making mistakes, but the story needs to point out why a character's flaws, are flaws. The story shouldn't support or justify a character's flaws. Also, the aftermath of those flaws need to be addressed in story. When Zuko betrayed Iroh in a misguided bid to go home and restore his Honor and his standing with his father, the story showed, in various ways, how Zuko made the wrong choice, and how that impacted his relationships with others and most importantly, with himself.
Well the creators have the same mindset. They can't do wrong and are always correct. They can't self-reflect and admit flaws.
Well Avatar is a completed show. Shera is just halfway done so they have a lot of time to redeem Catra. I do think Avatar is better written, but I also think their conflicts are less complex. I think magic is behind a lot of the conflict we are seeing. So far there have been way too many inconsistencies, and it doesn't seem unintentional.
The issue is not that Catra is evil. Characters can and should be irredeemable, because there are some villains who are psychopaths who can't and don't care enough to realize what they're doing hurts others. But the problem is that Catra's shift is abrupt, and that a lot of people have been led to believe she's actually just hurt and some TLC will get her on the path of heroes. But Noelle Stevenson has no idea how to write. At all. Period.

Anyone else wish this was a sequel called she-ra the legend of Mara?😔 they couldve made this a sequel that takes place 1000 years after the events of the og she-ra & instead of give an insulting rehash of adora's story have a new she-ra (Mara) take over & have hordak a title meaning its a new hord commander with the word going underground after hordak was defeated so adora left to return to eternia leaving the sword behind for a young adventurer who stumbles onto the new hord comes across the now ruined crystal palace & sword gets the flashbacks [including greyskull] & becomes she-ra. A lot better plot then what Noelle & DreamWorks came up with.😒

You know, a good story would have real, tangible consequences for making stupid decisions every step of the way, perhaps even have the stupid decisions centered around one or two character flaws. Then have the final straw cause truly dire consequences because they failed to course correct their emotions and feelings.
But knowing this show, it will actually turn out better for the characters that the portal was opened. Probably lead to an episode where the bad guys have ice cream or something. And no character growth will ever be achieved.

It's almost like this show is made by people that need to grow the hell up and not get all their emotional validation on Instagram and Twitter.
This show seems to glorify abusiveness. What do we see? Glimmer who has been usually seen being passive-aggressive and abusive to her friends and it put in charge of the princess posse, or whatever. It's never really brought up unless it's others apologizing to her for her actions towards them.
Catra revels in being abusive and throughout the show was promoted, until the plot called for her not to be. She always blames others like when Adora left the horde and asks her to join her, she refuses, but says Adora abandoned her.
Even in the fandom there's a lot of abusiveness towards those that do not like the show or do art in ways they find as a "sin" Vocal minority, but still very vocal and they only just make snide remarks and never addressing criticism people have- Then go on to snicker with people that agree with them and avoid actually talking about it. It's like a mean girls club.
That's because people who act like they support lgbt people don't actually understand lgbt people
@@soraceant Even before the show was out people were shouting "AdoraxCatra all the way!" and after seeing how manipulative and abusive she is, it shows how shallow they really are.
It just feels like fetishizing characters to be lesbians, and now we have a 30 year old woman making googly eyes at a 16 year old. And they called the people that said creepy for saying She-ra looked like a boy in the promo art. So anything they get from people with that, that's on their heads.

Also...these are the same people that would ship siblings and such. So an adult with a teenager is not a surprise, especially the sexualizing of gay/lesbian couples. Jokes aside I am going to compare this to a better show that used misunderstood villain trope. I dare to compare this trash to a masterpiece that is Star vs the forces of evil (if you ignore the 4th season that is). Neither Eclipsa or Mara are really villains but still. Eclipsa works as a character because she is not the polar opposite of what people assumed her to be. Regardless of the fact that fandoms portrays her as some uwu baby she is not that innocent. She is really selfish and cares only about herself (and her family) but she is not a psychopath who enjoys harming others for the sake of it. That is the thing with this trope. If you want your character to be believable you should not make such a big contrast. You can not tell me that a character that I was told was completely psychotic is actually a complete uwu baby. Everythime Eclipsa was brought up we could understand why would they think she is evil for the time being but if you take a step back you could see whynthey are wrong. And lastly the show was aware that the otheers were being irrational when it came to Eclipsa, while with Mara it isn’t. And even if you do that to caricature the mob mentality... THAT ACTUALLY CARICATURE MOB MENTALITY. At what point in the show were they trying to bring to your attention how irrational were they being for blaming everything on Mara but it was always there like a huge elephant in the room and that’s why everybody saw it coming. Heck if they did that i could even understand the contrast between the expectations and reality... BECAUSE IT IS USED TO CARICATURE THE MOB MENTALITY. It all boils up to the shows core problem: show taking itself too seriously for the sake of coming of as more mature and deep but instead coming of as a complete joke.
I've... I've just given up at this point. There's nothing left to salvage from this show except memories of how good the original She-Ra was.
You can still watch episodes on YOutube. They really hold up. In front of all since western animation abandoned anatomical correct designs. Yes some voices aren't really pleasent to listen to because they are so high pitched but it were the 80s.

While we don't get confirmed ages for most of the characters, I've tried to find out how old Scorpia is
During Princess Prom she said "No one liked my family even before we joined the Horde." Used "we" instead if "they" implying she was around when the take over happened.
In Princess Scorpia she says "I don't remember him (Her Grandfather) I was too young" while explaining the events of when the Horde came. And shows a picture of her and moms, in fancy clothes implying her family wasn't in the Horde yet.
In Light Spinner its said that "And now they (Horde) have taken a Runestone, the Black Garnet" then shows them taking the Black Garnet, while we don't Scorpia, it's possible she was just somewhere else, or already one her way to the Fright Zone. The Horde took Black Garnet when Micah was a kid, while we don't have a age for him, we see Castaspella, and she seems to be about 4-6. So I'd say that Scorpia is around the age of Castaspella

@mjtanner I have never seen either the original or new She-Ra but I enjoy listening to these reviews. This is because you come across as passionate about the show and you are generally positive but it's unfortunate the writers are so bad they seem to leave you constantly disappointed. I hope the show gets better so you can be as entertained by it as I am by your reviews.
Me too, though I did grow watching 2002 he man, 2004/2012 TMNT, and Reruns/2011 Thundercats.

Catra was one of this shows few redeeming characters. And they are kind of just throwing that out the window. And apparently surviving the Crimson Waste isn't that bad if a couple of teenagers could just walk in and walk right out. And why would Catra wear a jacket in the freaking desert when she has fur....just ...why?

Bringing Tung Lashor back just to treat him as a joke seems like just another mean spirited jab at the original She-Ra cartoon, especially when you consider how they could have just made up an original character for Catra to defeat rather than belittle a legacy character fans might have actually wanted to see treated right. Heck, the 2002 He-Man reboot handled the Snakemen much better, demonstrating what a terrifying threat they can be, Tung Lashor and his comrades were tough opponents for He-Man & Skeletor alike. Not only were the Snakemen the ancient foes of the Horde for control over the forces of evil in Eternia, but they even ATE people! Also, Tung Lashor himself happened to be one of King Hiss's generals as opposed to a mere desert punk. So much wasted potential, as per usual with this show, here's to hoping She-Ra gets a better reboot someday.
P.S. I'd call Catra a creator's pet if Noelle Stevenson was her actual creator, but at the very least it does seem like the writers of this show favor Catra a little too much, and its becoming increasingly detrimental to the show overall and the rest of its cast of characters (which is bad news for a show that was never particularly good to begin with anyway).
I wanted Tongue Lasher to beat Catra so much. She isn’t a badass, she’s a cruel, petty and arrogant fool. She did not deserve this win.

Idk what's wrong nala but the lionesses were fine they respected the right to rule. ( simba and Mufasa were thought to be dead so scar was made the leader ) and when it was found out scar killed mufasa, they corrected it
Noelle or whoever wrote this version of Catra probably is/was an angry entitled bitter brat herself and Catra is merely mirrowing this. I do like this evil Catra because it shows her as the villain she's supposed to be but she gets portrayed way too positive for causing the shit she did. Also promoting a show like this as a positive show full of role models is just a balant lie. All of them are irresponsible and hella incapable of fulfilling their roles. The princess alliance consisting of "strong female leaders" is full of people who ignore danger on purpose (Frosta and Perfuma), got dumped by their people (Mermista), dumped their people (Entrapta) or just fail at being a leader (Glimmer and Adora). The only capable person in this entire show who calls people out on their bullshit is/was Angela. It is true that many protagonists often start out as naive and incapabe but after a few missions or whatever they are encountered by they usually are shown to grow and get a better understanding of their role. This show has a fast pacing so one would expect that the main cast grew with their adentures but they are still the same bunch or idiots they started out as. The only one who was allowed to grow, even if it was for the worse, is Catra, instead of the main trio we as viewers should sympatise with.
Now I really don't want to know what they do to Mantenna.

I’ve noticed that usually you guys tend to summarize and quote the episode verbatum, even if you guys dont talk about why the quotes are important. It might help to summarize scenes like “A and B started bickering when B stopped and found something.” This might help shorten the videos or give you guys more time to expand on your ideas.
I heard that the reason why Kyle is being threted this horrible is becoues he is a white and blonde and in every other show he would be the main hero so in this show they will have him be the idiot that gets beat down in every oppertunity. Which is a horrible and rascist reason for it. Also is this really a commen trope in the main hero character becoues out side of He man, She ra and Luke Skywalker I belive it's more commen to have the blonde white character be the comic relief, the self aboserd duchbag and the villain.

How are Adora & Catra supposed to be "friends" that grew up together when Adora doesn't seem to understand anything about Catra or care that Catra was abused by Shadowweaver? Did she just not care because Shadowweaver treated her well? Adora is a pretty bad friend. Catra too. Their both bad.
You know after watching the the last two episodes and thinking back on the previous seasons I just have to ask. Did Shadow Weaver actually abuse Catra really? In the 1st season it shows Shadow Weaver being hard on Catra and implies that she was being abusive, but that's just it though. She was being hard on Catra for disobeying orders from a superior (remember they're supposedly in an army of sorts). Catra has shown that she doesn't like taking orders from authority in which results in her fuck ups. In fact many things that Catra does that fucks her over are her faults and no one else's.

I love Final Space, it’s amazing, but it’s falling into the same pacing issues due to comedic filler, which is a shame, because overall it’s a much smarter show than that
I too like Final Space, mostly for the moments of emotional investment and the threats the characters have to face. I thought the lord commander was probably one of personal favorite villains just for how menacing and damaged he was. A villains who is near death and still outclass you in destructive power is a check in my book. Haven't seen any new episode since the one where they go back in time.

Im still wondering how exactly adora is bad at the "bad guy" Shtick when she was in the hoard possibly longer then catra.
Sadly, the crew revealed that the Snake Men as a whole were a He-Man property, so they wouldn't have been able to appear.
I had only watched one other She-Ra vid you guys did but I was looking with a critical eye towards whether I should tune in to this dumpster fire or not. Not, was the answer. But just now, listening to your commentary and just seeing still frames and having not watched the original show, I just realized that She-Ra could be a “Lord of the Flies” clone. The character designs are like tweens that found a chest of big people clothes that fit them ( like the old Limited Too mall stores). The guys aren’t muscular (some are just husky) or have “packages”. The girls, well you know what I’m getting at. She-Ra and her friends are 10 (except when she transforms to 12) and the bigger kids are 11 to almost 13. They don’t get any older because time is frozen in this dimension. The only adults are holograms from their past dimension and Hordak who zapped here as an adult. That’s why he’s so frustrated and at times couldn’t give a crap. I mean, he’s lording over a bunch of kids. The Scorpia/ Catra thing. A crush between a 10 and 12 year old. See it fits (scorpion people are just big boned). It’s not like any females have had their “periods” yet. It all makes sense! The immaturity is self evident. If they used kid voice actors I might be interested. Wow, lord of the flies. If that’s not what the creators were going for then it’s obvious they suck, big time. One other thing, related to this episode, if the portal opens up IT WILL destroy their world. All the adults will come through and spank them for being naughty, and their life as children will recommence. Oh, if you’re thinking some scenes in new She-Ra are pretty dark for tweenies, then you haven’t read “Lord of the Flies”, have you?
Scorpia is an adult, so, if I were Noelle Stevenson I would prefer a mother-daughter relationship for Catra and Scorpia. But I'm not, and she wants them in a romantic relationship...in a kids show! I have a question for Noelle, were the heck are all the males in this planet? There is Bow, Hordak and Glimmer's father(I can't write his name) Shift wind(if I write it right)is a horse and Tongue Laser died...Where are the others?🤔

These reviews are better then the actual show, i could only sit through 3 episodes.. Glimmer would have to be the most irritating character in the history of television.. If hordak blows her brains out I'll watch again.

Entrapta and Hordak's relationship is the only thing that keeps me watching. Not cause "sHiPpIng mY OtP", but because it's the only time that either characters dont abuse each other and play it off as cute!
Hordak does yell at Entrapta at first, but come on, he's so used to it that he addresses everyone like that. No one really ever talks to Hordak genuinely either. Entrapta and Hordak are pretty good for each other. Not promoting that trope where the good person "fixes" the villain, but both ARE technically villains so it works better. Catra and Scorpia doesn't work because literally Catra treats her like crap, when Catra isnt supposed to be as evil as Hordak according to the show. Smh
The only reason I watch the Netflix she ra series is because I'm a fan of the 80s (even though I didn't grow up in that year)
