    And it's fantastic to listen to you share something you love to the rest of the world.

    I’ve played Deception I think 4 times with different people, I’ve been forensic scientist each time just because I was the only experienced player in each group. Last time I played it I had to get them to guess Trowel & Earrings. Round one went well, second round came along and I put down “Bits and Pieces” for the next clue. Big mistake, someone else had a Machete and they immediately honed in on him. I had to sit in silence as they wasted guess after guess and pray that a few players kept their badges so I could remove that clue in round three. Good team one, but I came THIS close to bungling it.

    • @AlexKrasnyPrime
      @AlexKrasnyPrime Рік тому

      Why are they wasting guesses with clues left to go out?

    Happy Birthday, Forensic Scientist! I love this game to death, and am pretty happy to see you cover it!
    In a similar note, Thank you Adam for so much that you do and make. You got me back into Professional Wrestling with your lists and booking videos in Whatculture, and now with everything No Rolls Barred and QuizzleMania. Huge fan of yours!
    Get on board and jam that jam, everyone!

    MY biggest problem with Clue is that you can be the murderer and win by arresting yourself rather than trying to get away with murder. This feels like the perfect Columbo murder simulator, with the battle of wits the murderer has to use to get away with their crime before someone catches them

    Great video,
    I have had this game on my shelf since the beginning of the Pandemic and now that people are coming out of their hiding spaces and caves again I am surely going to get this to the table, maybe even this weekend. The only piece of information I would have liked in this video is what do you think is the best player count for the game. Does it work better at the lower, the higher and the middle part of the spectrum.
    Still thanks for the video, I now feel ready to try it out.

    Deception may be the BEST entry-point into social deduction games out there. I even brought it to my parents' house for an after-dinner party game. They had never played a SD game before, but they loved it so much that we immediately played 3 more times that evening.
    Turns out that my parents are excellent liars! Which I find mildly concerning now that I think about it.....

    Salem 1692 is also a good game for those who don't like social deduction games. It's similar in that even if you know who the bad guys (witches) are, you'll still have to find their card as proof, and this card can travel around the table turning other players into witches. At low player counts, it does have an issue with a quick win on a lucky guess.

    BAD MAYOR - Still a bit sore about that Sullivan Mayor win huh, Adam? ;)
    I first heard of Deception through videos on this channel, hunted a copy down on eBay, and it's quickly become one of my favorite tabletop games ever!
    Simple enough that anyone can play it, encourages participation even for quiet players, and is just some of the absolute best deduction in any game I've played, period.
    My sister has turned out to be a fantastic storyteller with this game, really using the clues to paint a picture of how the crime took place!
    One of the best times I've had with it was during a session when Cause of Death: Accident, Location: Bedroom, and Motive: Love came up together.
    All players had had a few glasses of wine at this point and many jokes were made about "bedroom accident" and "BDSM" before someone pointed out that the Forensic Scientist had put down Relationship: Family and refused to remove that tile given the chance. A few more Game of Thrones jokes later, the truth slowly started to dawn - this was the story of a parent that had accidentally left something dangerous - such as cleaning alcohol - around their unattended toddler who had subsequently drunk it.
    What was first thought of as a slightly inebriated joke became a vividly tragic story through the power of storytelling that this game offers with a few simple tools. (Weapon: Alcohol, Clue: Teddy Bear.)
    A masterpiece of a game. Thank you, No Rolls Barred channel for introducing me to it!

    Yes. One of my all time favorite games! Was already one of my go to games for groups of 5 to 12. And it is very easy to set up on Zoom. And can be done in 20 to 30 minutes.
    In fact I have Blood on the Clocktower coming at some point and don’t know if it will get much playtime as everyone I play with loves Deception.

    I played a game like this back in Ye Olde Days, it was indeed great fun. The only problem is I'm absolutely useless as an evil player: it's just not in my temperament, & folk can figure out almost immediately that I'm the murderer/werewolf/whatever 🤣

    • @thehobbyist7275
      @thehobbyist7275 Рік тому

      But with deception, you also have the ability to hide behind clues which I think is great. If people know you're the murderer but waste their guesses on the wrong information, you still stand a chance which I absolutely adore about this game. With the witness in play, you would then have the option of instead of taking the approach like most social deduction games where the only option as the evil player is to cast away suspicion, you can do your own detective work to find out who the witness is and thus you can win that way.

    The forensic scientist player may be able to tell everyone who the murderer is, but the forensic scientist character has nothing to really relevant to say except for the clues that they're finding, so keeping your mouth shut about who the killer is and not explaining exactly what you mean by a clue they misinterpreted is just good role play

    Question for the NRB faithful out there, what stops, lets say a team of 4 investigators, from just guessing one at a time in the 3rd round to oust the murderer? I feel like often times in social deductions games you come down to a few limited number of selection options for who the traitor is. With that in mind what prevents the investigators from just varying up the guesses slightly to go after one or two people who have viable potential card options in front of them and just play process of elimination instead of making it a majority vote at the end of the round or game? I love SD games (Resistance, Chameleon, Secret Hitler, etc) but as lauded as this game is I have always seen this kind of huge hole in the structure of the game.
