Thanks for taking the time to make these links Jon, must have taken AGES!
I just love listening to you talk about games that I actually went through a 40+ minutes video without skipping any parts. Out of all the board game reviewers on YT, I think my taste matches most closely with yours
I just watched a guy talking about his 300 boardgame collection for 42 minutes. I'm hooked.
Loved the part where Serena busted your chops about the boardgames being neat and tidy, but not so much everything else.
Totally agree: huge boxes for a handful of cards and tokens. Big nono!
Really enjoy the interview format and the dynamic between you and your partner (?) It's just very homely and relaxing. Please make more videos like this, I would definitely be interested to know about your board gaming time together and feel part of it 🙂. My husband and I play games together as well and it's such a special unique part of our lives x
Glad you liked it, Anna. I will consider it for the future but it can be hard to find time to include Serena because of her job. If you haven't already seen them I made two VLOG videos last year called "Why I Started Making Videos" and "First Game Night in Six Months" which have a little more stuff like that.
That was surprisingly entertaining, and Serena is an great interviewer
@6:16 "I like it when the boxes line up and they have the same size".
That was the moment you had me hooked!
Great video. There's always a gem two to be found in an Actualol multi-game video; but this time the cherry on top was the addition of Serena's subtle questions. Shed a tear for my group's paused game of Kings Dilemma.
Want more Jon:Serena repartee!!
Getting the tour of your picks and the tidbits on "why" was neat, and those seen on other videos become a form of Easter Egg. Glad the algorithm suggested this one 👍
Would LOVE to play games with this guy - he's got such a fantastic attitude.
Thanks you so much for this video. You were one of the first board game reviewers that I started to watch, and I still like your channel! I don't always have the same taste in games as you, but really like your enthousiasm when you talk about your games!
Wow thank you so much for making a link list to all of your game videos! I know that must have taken forever. There have actually been times where I was looking for a particular video but google/youtube search failed me. This is great!
This is so awesome! Thanks for doing it! I've bought so many games because of you videos, and there are probably going to be a few more now lol!
Fantastic video. Would love to see a video about the 100 games that fell off the shelf since the last time you did this.
Great vid, Jon. You are spot on with Fief...a game I can't get to the table, but has so much promise. And it will still sit on my shelf.
3 minutes in and no singing so far!!!
Haha! Wait until the end...
There's no song, I just need the view duration 😉
Shut your dirty soy SJW mouth. If I want c0mmie BLM I will go to your channel.😍
Great vid! I learnt a lot about some games I've never heard of before!
Yesssss we love you!!!!!! Thank you for this post! Keep up the good work. Hope you and your family are safe 🥰🥰
Thanks for what you do. I watched my first Board Game Video in November and it was one of yours, after I bought Qwinto and Second Chance and have purchased many others aswell. It has has got me through lockdown but also found me a hobby for life 👍
Thanks for sharing, I'm always excited to hear when I've welcomed someone to gaming, because that's the goal of the channel. Congrats on finding the hobby! Welcome, and make sure to watch all my videos! 😁
That was fun between the little bit of interaction and the pop up notes. Loved the "not actually a collector" bit XD
Why are negotiation games so criminally underrated!?
I think people’s anxieties are triggered by being put on the spot but if you’ve got a friendly group then they are some of the best experiences you can have from a box!
I think you've hit the nail on the head.
I think it might be that, as well as people being afraid of making a bad deal and being taken advantage of.
Another issue is how much fun you have can be so dependent on the group.
Some people just will not negotiate/trade unless it is massively in their favor, and possibly not even then if they perceive that they're "helping" a player who is ahead of them.
Granted, this perception might come from not having tried the better negotiation games out there that might prevent these issues, but for me that's one of the major reasons I don't particularly like the mechanic. It just seems like one of the mechanics out there most prone to players being able to ruin the experience.
Nice set up!
Tikal and Carcassonne were my first two Euros back in the early 2000s. Followed quickly by Settlers. 600 plus games later.
I like those shelves of yours!
When we remodeled downstairs I had custom shelves made. I have my games more or less organized by box size/type. Not all of them stored vertically like yours ... about 1/2 stored horizontally.
Really love your choices of games. This is so unique. And somehow I could connect more to most the games that you bring in when compared to many USA based gamers. Keep doing the good work
Looking forward to watching this through later!! 😁
OMG, MS Batory! My wife's family I migrated on that ship, I soon wanted to get it for her, but I've never seen it on the North American market. Thanks for the video, great to see you again and the follow up to the previous video of your collection!
Just came from the „100 games that left the collection“-video. Sad to see the family still happy here not knowing some of the members will be gone 2 years on. 😄
Anyway, interesting video! Thanks for sharing. 🙏
😂😂 Don't personify the games, it makes it harder 😥
Love it. Great video. Nice to hear someone’s partner not complaining about how many games you have!! 🤦♂️
Great channel and great overview of so many games especially quirkier games that no one covers. I also love that you also organize games by color. It's good to have a board game content creator who skews to medium and light games rather than focusing solely on heavy games. I was stunned to see you own Fief which I bought as a negotiation game for higher player count, but I can't table it because of the complex rules. And good news, Hab and Gut (The Rich and the Good) IS now back in print (and Stockpile is not).
Thanks for the fun walkthrough of your shelves. One of these years I hope to make it across the pond for UK Games Expo....would be fun to seek you out and say "hi" and maybe play a game
I loved watching you geek out about the games!
Love this video, really lovely content. The text is neat and actually having someone to interact with really boosts the vid.
I absolutely agree, I think that was the only thing that I have been missing from Actualol videos 🥰
How is little Timmy going to reach the top shelf?
A great video and loads of ideas of games to seek out. Since you like Knizia, Tetris style games and legacy games, I was surprised not to see My City. It's been a 2 player lockdown highlight for me
I've already played through My City. I talk about it in my "First Game Night in Six Months" video from last year. It's not in my collection because I finished it and I needed the space!
Catch the Moon is such a fun game. Love to see it in your collection.
Your channel makes me happy 😁👍
That is an amazing collection of games 😊
Woah, so wild to me that you mentioned playing Master Word over webcam, I've been having sessions with friends the last few months doing exactly that since I got it in the mail! Great game for it.
It's been a nice surprise in a year of no party games.
“I’m not much of a collector” meanwhile showing a 300 game collection and naming this video my collection lol. Love it!
What a great video. Really interesting!
First of all, surprised to see MS Batory. I had no clue there are polish board games recognized abroad! 😅
Secondly, happy to see Cat Lady! Thats an awesome little game and has been phenoemnally translated into polish..
Death by board game shelf, ultimate achievement
Icreally appreciate Johns content, never seen this videoctho. When he talked about my literal number one of all time, MRP, saying "it doesnt fit my style" and "not sure if I should keep it" I wanted to punch things :(
I have the exact same story about the game of thrones game!! It got (eh) me into boardgames. At the same time it also made be painfully aware of the problem of player elemination...
Loved your collection and how you have laid it all out. However, its a shame our tastes differ not a big fan of negotiation games although we do share the love for Knizia.
I use a shoe rack for small games. Cheap and sit on top of shelves perfectly
Loved the editor's notes!
regarding 19:35 - believe me, I like them at least as much as you do!
Let's see how many likes this comment gets to see if we're in a minority or not!
why do i watch your videos, my amazon list just gets bigger every time. NOW ITS OUT OF CONTROL!
Do you like trick-taking games? The Fox in the Forest might be my favorite game that I own - a great little trick-taker with hand management and a few special abilities. It's also a two-player trick-taking game, which I've been able to find very few of.
How lovable! Thanks for this.
King's Dilemma is easy to play over Zoom - we did all but the very last session that way. I had my phone on a stand over the board, and a spreadsheet to show everyone's voting on my laptop. I had to do a bit more work... but it made making deals really easy and sneaky.
I've been holding out for the in-person experience because I'll never play it again and I want my one campaign to be as good as possible. But I can imagine it works better than most online.
Auf Teufel Komm Raus is one of my very favourite games... but you’re going to find the insufficient quantity of poker chips annoying when you transition to playing your real copy!
It's down to your recommendation that I got hold of a copy. So thanks for leading me to another great game!
I've also heard not great things on BGG about it being visibly obvious which coal pieces are which from looking at the backs 😑
@@actualol I have never found that to be a problem - it’s one of those things you don’t notice unless you’re looking out for it. So don’t tell the other players and you’ll probably be fine! (As long as you don’t memorise them yourself). To be honest, it wouldn’t be easy - you’re looking for differences in the texture of wood grain.
Ah okay, that's good. I suppose the answer to the poker chips is to hunt down another copy just for the chips! 😂
Have you played Die Seher Von Santiiba? I figured it might be up your street.
@@actualol They are excellent chips!
I remember a book about relationships from a few years ago - ‘men are from Mars, women are from Venus’ maybe - that said your boyfriend/husband is probably annoyingly messy but has his CD collection neatly in alphabetical order and that was me to a T! This totally reminded me of that, hehe.
😂
Awesome video. Props to Serena for the interviewing. Favourite part: This is another dexterity game... Oops!
exciting list! a lot of games i have never heard of and a lot of games missing that i thought every hobbists had, like for example Wingspan, Mage Knight, Viticulture, Quacks, Terraforming Mars, Azul, Scythe, Everdell, Blood Rage etc.
Almost all the games you mention - Wingspan, Quacks, Terraforming Mars, Scythe, Everdell - the reason I don't own them is because they are multiplayer solitaire games, there is very little player interaction, you are only concerned with what you are doing in the game. I don't find that style of game to be interesting.
I don't think Mage Knight fits that list, it is a lot heavier and less mainstream than those other games, from my perspective.
30:40 Ah, so as an Australian I feel I should clarify that Uluru is pronounced more like 'Oo-la-roo' though I understand indigenous place names aren't often transliterated that well which is probably the real culprit here...
"I'm not a game collector."
-said the guy with 300 boardgames
Lovely video! =)
I love negotiation games and New angeles as well, have you played Sidereal Confluence? It's a great negotiation game, think cosmic encounters mashed with chinatown =)
I have played it once and I found it a little too complex for my tastes. I didn't really enjoy the engine building aspect of it, and felt that the negotiation wasn't as strong as other games.
I would recommend to keep MicroMacro till Crime City 2 comes out in summer and then rethink your decision 😉
So they did recently release a new version of Fief that fixes some of the issues in randomness. The assassination and Justice cards now don't require a day dice roll, they just do what they're supposed to.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip. Have you played it? Do you feel it's worth the switch?
Dude, where is Chinatown? Take a look at that, as a fan of negotiation games you will love it! And about Feld games...In the Name of the Rose sounds like a good fit as well! Thanks for the video, I noted a few ones I did not know!
I now own Chinatown, since this video and you're right I do love it! Not sure it will be as easy to get a copy of In The Name of the Rose!
I Loved this video , even Iff we do not have the same taste in games
Dang I've been trying to buy Eye My Favorite Things since the first time you made a video about it! I think it's only sold in the UK.
I don't think it's available here either 😔 Sorry for being annoying and talking about it so much!
oh to have this many board games
Great vid! Question: at 40:00 you talk about games you get rid of after review/some time. Where do these games go when you get rid of them?
If I was a guest in your house I would mix up your canned vegetables.
:D
Hab & Gut had a spiritual sequel in 2017 called Divinity Derby. Rethemed from stock brokers to a Greek pantheon racing game.
Edit: haha And now that I've finished the video, I see that you already have it in your collection!
I'm always one step ahead!
I share your pain on neat stacking!
Came to skip thru and ended up watching the full thing 😅😅
37:02 ROFL classic! How long did they take to clear up? Lawls
I would love to see you do a review of Game of thrones

I would dred opening any of the boxes after placing them sideways up like this 😂
@actualol
Speculation was definitely replaced by Stockpile. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s amazing
It's on the shelf below!
I would love to get my hands on "Hollywood Golden Age" board game. I love classic old movies. I have a fair amount of old movie dvds. Do you have any Bruno Cathala board games? He has created great games. Ishtar, Kingdomino to name a few.
at 5:49 I had that game a long time ago. But could get noone to play it.
Planning on buying a bunch of board games, this is no diss at video games but I not only want to spend less time in general on a screen because I spend every waking moment on it from school to TV to games etc. As well as I've always been a bit behind video games (ie played the 64 when the wii was trending, the original xbox and never even played the playstation games, now in 2022 I'm playing a range from ps2 games, battle of neibourville and some other ps4 games and switch games). I always preferred playing all the games I could on older consoles and do normally 100% beat the games, it's always given me alot more games to look forward to. I also got consoles and games when they were cheap because they were old, but not old enough to be rare or expensive. Meaning it wasn't too costly as well. But now I'm starting to finish every game I'm pretty much interested in. Of course I'm sure I havnt heard of some.
But to the point, I bought one deck dungeon because I seen on tik tok that it was 30min playtime and it was 1-2 players so even if my SO didn't want to play I could still play alone. We tried it tonight and had alot of fun, I also didn't find it as draining. I'm really excited to dive heads in, also glad I've saved up money so I can get a few to play between.
One thing though I know when I start this collection I will never get rid of a game unless it doesn't stick with me. But I'm also just gonna be careful with the board games I choose, now adays you just look up gameplay and it's pretty easy to tell if it's interesting. Anyway love the video, gained a new curious subscriber who has joined the board game cult lmao.
I noticed the reprint of Kitchen Rush on your shelf... how does it hold up against the older “ugly” one? 😂
I haven't actually had a chance to play it in this version. But it is SO much better looking. I really like the look of it.
Unrelated but I really like that button-up. Where’d you get it?
Upside down Klask broke my brain 🙃
Thanks for the video! I have a bachelor party coming up, any recommended games for that? Would be 5-7 people
If you're going to be drunk then I'd keep it fairly simple on the rules. Anomia, Blurble, Shifty Eyed Spies are good for that. But otherwise then Codenames, Just One.
You missed the Werewolf shelf . Great video
Yeah I cut that bit out because I said nothing interesting 😂
Is there a link for the Besta Ikea Bookcase?
First thing's first - where do you buy your shelving from? Looks so tidy
Edit: Answered in 54 seconds. Nice :)
Me a month ago: watches all 4 parts of your previous game collection video
Me today: watches this one too
😂 So you're asking for a new collection video every month?
@@actualol I wouldn't be opposed to it. 😂
@@actualol also I want to thank you for mentioning Gods Love Dinosaurs in one of your recent videos! It has become a massive favourite.
Awesome, glad I could help 🙂
Oh ok, so THAT'S what 300+ games looks like 😳
What do you do with your games when youre done with them? My Kallax is now overful and i need to get rid of some!!
Great video. Thanks! I'm curious, how many of your games are Kickstarter games? Do you get any of your games from there or are all from other sources?
I have 17 games from Kickstarters that I've backed, mostly from 3-6 years ago. I haven't backed a game in two years. I'm lucky enough to get review copies of some KS games. But I also fell out of love with the way games are made on there. There's too much focus on gimmicks and not enough on gameplay. It's very rare that I play a Kickstarter game that can compete mechanically with the best of the year. But there are publishers that are exceptions, obviously.
Quick question, somewhere in this video you mentioned a game like hearts, but with missions. I can’t find it now, any idea what it’s called?
I had a collection of Fourhundred and twentythree boardgames. Now I have threehundred and twentythree of ´em. So things have changed a LOT since then. I almost didn´t recognize ya.
I really enjoyed the video Jon, so much to talk about - but your tastes are SO different to mine! For example, only one wargame?? There's a whole world of wargames out there to be explored. And I didn't notice any solitaire games - I've found them to be a bit of a gaming lifeline this last 12 months. Or at least, games with decent a solitaire variant. I'm also struck by some recent hotness that is not featured in your collection - for example Root and its expansions. As for negotiation games - have you looked at Sidereal Confluence (I haven't played it but would be interested to hear your thoughts)? Or what about classic negotiation games like Cosmic Encounter or Dune?
Yes, quite different! The reason I don't play many war games is because I don't have a role for such intense two player games in my collection. I only really play two player games with Serena and they tend to be simpler, shorter games. Any other time I would rather play in a group. It's a similar reason for solo games, they are missing the key element - other people. I do own Onirim and Aerion which are both 1-2 player games but I have never played them solo. The other people are such an important part of gaming for me that playing solo would be like eating a cheese sandwich without any cheese.
My tastes don't tend to align with recent hotness. Most popular games now have very little player interaction. Even something like Root which has a shared board had too much focus on your own player board. I also found the rules complexity to far exceed the reward.
I didn't mind Sidereal Confluence but it's not as strong a negotiation experience as other games I own. It's more focused on the resource conversion.
As for Cosmic, I used to own that and I do enjoy it, but found a bit too unreliable. Sometimes it was great, other times the alien dynamic wasn't interesting. And Dune I've only played once, as Rex. Again, it was okay but I wasn't fully hooked.
We can agree on the genius of Reiner Knizia though!
@@actualol Yes indeed to Reiner! Recently I've enjoyed playing Babylonia 2-player with Sue. Would love to try it with 3 or 4.
I haven't heard someone use, "HiggaldyPiggaldy" since Doug's Assistant Principal Mr. Bone, way back in 92 ...bravo
😂😂
Which exact BESTA frame are you using?
When did your copy of Burgle Bros 2 arrive - I'm still waiting for mine (wasn't aware they had arrived in the UK yet)?
Sorry to disappoint, I got an early reviewer copy.
Jon, our taste in games is very similar (which makes it not very surprising that you're the cause of a good 15% of my collection...) but what SHOCKS me is that I adamantly store my games "facing left" so that the text on the side is read from bottom to top and you store yours "facing right" so that the text on the side is read from top to bottom.
I'm curious as to why you think you prefer that facing direction.
Only 15%??? We're not exactly gaming soulmates are we!
I've never thought too much about the facing. Doesn't everyone have them facing right? I just checked Dice Tower and SUSD - they face right too. Perhaps it's time you changed to fit in with us cool kids. 😎
Isn’t that the direction that books on a shelf face? Makes sense to me to have it go the same way as a bookshelf.
@@actualol To clarify, I'm not saying only 15% of our games match, I'm saying in terms of what/who introduced new games to me, you account for 15% of new game exposure, which compared to all the board game content creators out there is actually a fairly big percentage.
As for my games being left-facing. I used to face them right, but I think some time long ago I realized my wife is right-handed and somewhere in my brain I thought "If the games faced left, if she ever grabbed one off the shelf with her right hand, it she could see the cover which might entice her to actually play one" Or some nonsense like that.
Actualol, you mentioned some games from your past that you searched and searched for like Funny Friends and eventually found someone willing to sell them. Are there any hard to find games you are searching for lately?
I don't really hunt them down like I used to. I have a Want In Trade list on BGG, but there's only a few that I really want. Libertalia, Lord of the Rings Confrontation and Dogs of War are at the top of list of the ones that are out of print.
Hey I was wondering how deep are you shelves here
Also please make a video on Shasn.
what i do with the smaller games is put the games i'm iffy about behind them so they dont push back. Then the iffy games aren't front and centre and you can save some space that way?
I do occasionally have games behind, but I've become a lot more ruthless at getting rid of iffy games. They aren't worthy of my shelves!
