@@RjGoombes it just takes some time to get used to it and its good. There are plenty of people like that irl, your voice is not related to how you look in many ways.
It took Overwatch 8 years to came up with a story beyond "Let's restart Overwatch", and even then it doesn't explain why in a random match Soldier and Reaper may fight side by side against Doomfist and Genji. Deadlock comes of the bat with a simple, but effective ludonarrative harmony: one assortemt of weirdos is figthing with another one in hopes of completing a ritual to summon an otherworldly entity that will grant them magical help with their wants. Every hero have their own desire, meaning that even characters that dislike each other, like Lash and Bebop, can still work together for their own benefit.
Overwatch to be fair, always said from the start - this is like a sandbox/toybox where everyone fights each other - the multiple characters across multiple maps, different game modes, etc. It's a little different to a MOBA-type game, like this, that has just one map to build story in. It's a bit more...not linear, but a simpler set of building blocks. Also, people tend to give MOBAs less of a hard time for this in the past as opposed to shooters for some reason - maybe that's why :) Not putting down Deadlock's work (love it so far), just highlighting they are maybe slightly different scenarios to build with. Loving Deadlock either way! And - as you mentioned, the desires of each person tie them in to the single and simple narrative - so, that piece for sure, is a nice way of doing it with the patrons.
Don't get me wrong the blizzard devs completely dropped the ball on overwatch in every way including the story but it's not really that big a deal with things like that, even deadlock already has that Warden's explicit lore is that he's trained to prevent patrons from ever coming into the world, yet obviously as a player character playing warden your objective is to summon a patron a clear contradiction. And that's okay when it comes to making a multiplayer fantasy lore for the answer is "stop asking questions" when you say things like "why are reaper and soldier on the same team" because the answer is mechanical, they're on the same team because splitting heroes up by thematic in this kind of game has historically been bad, that's why Dota 1 originally had Sentinel and Scourge only heroes but as soon as all pick was coded into the game that's all people played because who wants to have a 50/50 on if you can play the hero you were wanting to. Overwatch's big difference was it's huge cinematic which they abandoned and unfortunately those were usually flashback based and basically never progressed the story outside of doomfist showing up and a few others.
Valve is pretty good with their lore Like if you compared the lorein Dota and league on how 5 character (friend or for) fighting with or against each other Dota didd better job at it
I am in love with seven as a villain. Just beautifully written, so intimidating and plays with people like a spider to a fly in his conversations. I love villains
Runs rings around them - some lines link him potentially to Dynamo, following his research on the Astral Gates....it's all so early, who knows what will make it and what won't, but world is setting up really nicely!
It he a villain though? Dude just likes learning and is anti-censorship. Nothing wrong with reading a book of forbidden knowledge or seven. Obliterating his soul is just like burning books, a form of censorship. And people who burn books are the real villains of every story.
I like that they are not over doing the lines, not trying to sound like a trope. Seven is definitely the edgy bad dude but his lines are delivered calmly without trying too hard to pour more edginess on top of edginess
@@newhek I think that's a combination of Seven's dialog and his design. His outfit and body looks like it is a mix of his prisoner's garb, the restraints and mechanisms for his execution and the melted remains of his body, which makes sense for this backstory, it's incidentally edgy. With Reaper, he feels like he strives to be over the top. Calling himself the grim reaper, wearing a put together costume with a bone mask, throwing his spent guns away to pull out new ones, posing dramatically. It all feels like he is purposefully trying to be edgy, which doesn't make it cool. As for personality and dialog, Seven has a calm, calculating demeanor who doesn't go around boasting or making threats (except with Lash, but he's Lash). He KNOWS people are scared of him, so he controls himself and doesn't let people know what he is thinking, which in the end is MUCH scarier when you can't read him. In comparison, Reaper comes off as an angry teen in a phase, lashing out and acting big and tough, yelling "DIE DIE DIE!" and stuff like that, which just comes off as childish. Its like comparing a angry dog to a serial killer. Sure the dog might scare you with its barking and threatening to bite, but its essentially a wild animal, one that can be avoided with a door. The killer is intelligent and meticulous. It can plan and react to the door, finding other ways to get you. You don't know what they are capable of and that is terrifying.

Already love these characters. The world of deadlock is already oozing with valve's amazing worldbuilding. Small little details and interactions are what I love most in game lore tbh. "The Lash" is very hilarious, just the best type of narcissist.
Excited to see more Valve dialouge! Seven is a really interesting character, his snark is really sinister. Abrams will carry lore with that tome, I think. There is a lot of fun set up.
he is pretty sinister...smart also! the abrams tome of anubis was linked a bit with geist's demon in old/leaked/datamined lore, so we'll see if that continues!
Abrams being the face of Deadlock but for an actual reason other than "we need one" is a very refreshing thing to see. I do hope to hear more about his big'ol book and who exactly wants it from him, as Seven seems very much uninterested in it surprisingly.
as someone also obsessed with the lore, thank you so much for this! i love how surprisingly gentlemanly and catty seven is if you listen to all his voicelines, what a great character.
My headcanon is Seven believes rudeness and crassness are the markers of the uneducated, the impulsive, and the uncultured. Seven does not treat everyone with respect because they believe they're on equal levels, but because they know they're better than them and won't stoop to such lows.
What i really wanna understand are the character's motivations to earn their wish from the Patron. Like some are very simple; Kelvin and his runestone, Abrams and his Tome, they wanna know what these things mean or maybe better harness it. But then theres characters like Seven who seem fully figured out with themselves and it makes you wonder what they would do with the favor of a Patron? Maybe Seven would want his old body back or something.
It seems like Skullgirls, where there are characters who want to make a wish and others want to destroy the object that grants them to prevent someone from making a horrible and evil wish
I could see the fighting arena becoming a later arcade-style event, where we get to do 1v1 and 2v2 fights just for fun, and I could see it also including story content where Bebop and Lash have a rematch and (I would assume) Bebop would get the title back since he's the honorable one and I would expect that to be part of his journey
that'd be a fun story, visual novel, comic if nothing else! hey, playable would be awesome, but see how it goes. gotta be careful balancing the PVP and PVE stuff (overwatch..) but, Valve have done fun PVE events for DOTA 2 before, so there is precedent!
If I had to guess, Seven was probably a scholar of the supernatural. I imagine in his studies he began a pursuit of greater powers that were laughed at, only, he succeeded in attaining the power and rubbed it in his colleagues faces. Fast forward to finding out that said power is dangerous and forbidden knowledge so they pass the verdict that Seven has to die, perma die, with no chance of passing that knowledge.
Sevens design is honestly one of the coolest character designs I've seen in a while. A death row prisoner executed by the electric chair comes back from the dead and has harnessed the very power that was used to kill him.

i'm super excited to learn more about seven, the way he talks paints him as an extremely intelligent psychopath, one who has more on his mind than murder and mayhem. The way he seems to show at least *some* respect for abrams suggesting he doesn't hold a grudge against authority/the law as a whole, and how he actually seemed willing to acknowledge lash as the champion... until his ego shone through. too kind spicy! the game is slowly developing so won't be one every 5 minutes, but will see how we go!
@@Hammeh either way! I’m excited! I quickly fell in love with this game. Did not expect to like it this much. Setting is fantastic!
Cheers!
is it still possible to play or look at the map neon prime?
not at the moment - i believe there might be a community effort to reconstruct it happening though...as a mod or otherwise!
To me, Lashes character model and personality dont go well together. The voice is also very generic and cocky, for which i hope valve changes in the future.
Positive comment
