My daughter's 2007 Pontiac Torrent (same vehicle) threw a P0128 DTC code for engine below temperature, and the gauge was all the way down to the lowest reading. Simultaneously, the message display said "ENGINE HOT A/C OFF" while she was driving, and both electric radiator fans were running on high. I checked the coolant level (it was fine) and the upper hose was warm while the lower hose was cool. I used this video for reference to replace the 195°F thermostat and also the coolant temperature sensor. I cleared the DTC and then test drove the car for 5-7 miles. No recurring codes, the temperature gauge reads normally and the heater inside the car is significantly hotter than it has been previously this winter.
A thermostat is defined as a device that automatically regulates temperature, or that activates a device when the temperature reaches a certain point. That is what was replaced in the video.
I’m hoping this helps me for my 2017 Chevy Equinox. Ty for keeping the video direct and to the point and instructional vs all the fluff a nutter of presenting. Saves time! Ty!
Thank you so much for this video, I have a 2014 Chevy captiva I know it’s not the same vehicle but after reading the comments I have the same problem “engine hit a/c off” also went to auto zone and they gave me the code to replace thermostat. Just wish I could find someone that won’t empty my pockets to replace it 🤣. 💚
Thanks for this! After replacing my coolant sensor and checking my coolant level is full, I still get the "engine hot a/c off". So I am hoping it's the thermostat that I will be changing next. Thanks again.
Same for a 2009 EQUINOX ?? My engine went straight to HOT and the "ENGINE HOT A/C OFF" message appeared, fans run OK ... coolant level ok but last time i saw it drip from somewhere.
My engine overheated on Monday and I quickly took it into the mechanic shop to avoid further damage. It's now Thursday and they haven't done sh*t waiting for my damn warranty company to approve since my thermostat is bad along with a radiator fan that's not working and another that is cracked. Just going to do this myself, thank you.

Sounds like she is ready to go.
Thanks for watching.
That's a temperature sensor

@@funbro1 I know. What is described here in the comment is needing a temperature sensor replaced.
It could be a temperature sensor that Mean Max Is talking about.
The 2009 equinox is a pos that needs constant parts. Thanks for the video!
2010 also...JUNK!

Very welcome.
Whole different engine. 3400 is the best engine! 250,000miles all original.

Hopefully it is something that simple. Thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 Yes hope it is and happy new year!
I am from Iraq and I have this same car, and you kept a lot short because the owners of the workshop do not know anything about it. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Clear and accurate info
Very good information I thank you for your help
Thanks for you help. I learn very well.
Thanks for watching.
Pretty simple job it looks like, aside from needing to drain all the coolant.
Way temperature rating thermostat did you install, 180 or 195 degree? Thanks
@funbro1 How come you didn’t use a Gasket and sealant before putting it back together?
No gasket is needed. So far, to this date, now leaks or problems.
Thanks for the question.
Can you do a “ how to properly drain coolant” on this vehicle, thank you
If I ever get to work on another equinox, I could do that. Thanks for watching.
@@funbro1after you burped the engine did you clean the coolant off before putting engine cover back on?
This is very informative, thank you . Would it be similar to a 2015 Chevy equinox by any chance? @funbro1
No gasket needed on the stat housing?
Not needed, just a little gasket sealant is all that is required. Thanks for watching.
Same for a 2009 EQUINOX ??

I’m sure it will be very similar if not exactly the same.
Thanks for watching.
Did you drain the coolant?
He said he did when he started putting coolent in the resivior
Yes.
Thanks for watching.

Wait I’m confused why do you have to loosen it and then tighten it again ?
Loosen what and tighten again?
@@funbro1 there was a part where he said imma loosen something and tighten it again,I don’t what it’s called
Does the housing need a gasket or not??
