I got a 2014 chevy equinox base model 2.4L/4 cylinder I just had the motor replaced it keeps doing the same thing the day I went to pick it up says on the dashboard service stabilitrak and service power steering the guy at the garage went back over it real quick some grounding wires needed to be cleaned up and it was having trouble sending electrical signals through the system eventually he got the car good to go but now it's a week and a half later it's doing it again I'm possibly looking at from what I'm finding out it could be the battery or a Onstar module or even the other parts I just don't know which way to go
Anyone have an answer for this?, I just got my wife a 2010 equinox v6 direct injection overall it’s in great condition but it has slow acceleration I put a fresh air filter in and there’s no check engine light any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I have a friend that is a GM mechanic and one thing he says with these to help avoid timing chain issues is to NEVER go off of the oil life monitor on these cars. Just change your oil every 3000-5000 regardless of what the oil life monitor says.
I have a 2014 Equinox LT and I have had every one of these problems you’ve addressed. Super frustrating to have all these issues considering I’ve only had it for about 3 years. If I didn’t love it as much as I do I would have gotten rid of it, but it’s really nice on the inside and it’s smooth ride makes it nice and comfortable to drive long distances!! Thanks for all the information you guys have put out there!! You’ve helped me many times!!
Did you not change your oil regularly? A dealership/mechanic is selling me this exact car for $5500 with 166k miles. What’s your thoughts? My budget is 6k and quite frankly there’s no car under 6k that has zero issues.
@@baruckmubua505hello ! I have this car with exactly those miles. My dad got me this car back in 2017 and as of 2013 I haven’t had any major problems with it. What I do check is the oil level of the car since this car burns the oil ! Always change your oil and use a Dexos synthetic oil. And always do your regular maintenance. I got this car when I started college and since then I have been drinving it long distances and have used it for DoorDash for about 2 years and zero problems
I’ve been lucky with my 2015 Equinox. Purchased new. Currently 125,000. Oil changed every 5,000 miles. Just 2 weeks ago I had two tire sensors changed and the resonator on the exhaust systems needed replaced.Mostly highway driving so I’m just now needing front brakes at next oil change. Been a great car.
I am the owner of a 2015 Chevy Equinox and I have experienced stalling and shutting off in traffic, figured out through Google that it was the air intake valve. I’m currently experiencing my check engine light on due to the solenoid valve needing to be fixed. Thank you for this video, I learned a lot about my vehicle.
I have a 2011 LTZ Chevy Equinox with 145,000 miles with the V6. I’m the only owner of the SUV. I have change the oil only when the on board system gets to 20%, save’s me money. The only two major problems I’ve had is the alternator and the battery. This weekend I will changing the rear shocks and the front struts. The car has been great and no major issues. Plan on passing it down to my son when the dealership’s has inventory on new cars…some day.
We owned a 2011 and it was one of the most reliable cars we ever owned. However, we had to trade it because of oil usage. I changed my own oil at 5000 miles with M1 but it made no difference. GM said going by our VIN number, our car didn't fall into the category for piston replacement even though it consumed a quart every 1200 miles.
The way you present the information in this video is harmonious with my learning style and I'm incredibly thankful for this clearly laid out information!
This video is spot on.. I recently replaced the Intake and Exhaust solenoids and during the oil change, noticed an oil leak. I got under and cleaned things up to see where it was coming from. It seemed to be coming from the EXACT spot you pointed in your example. Thanks...
2014, owned 2 months, been in shop now 4x!!! Warranty covered first 3 issues but now, what you explained in # 4 issue in the video, the check engine light came on as well as "reduced power engine". Drives ok, but when coming to a stop it wants to die. Very similar to what it did the 3rd time it was in the shop but apparently now they say this is a sensory issue not covered on the 2 warranties. I already know they are full of it & sold me a pretty lemon, but now I have to pay $390 for a sensory problem less than 2 months after purchased & 2 weeks after dealership had it fixing a very similar issue....wish these people were forced to fix the problems they knew the car had. It is not okay. Sorry for the rant...good video was hoping you spoke of my issue & you did...curious if I was told correct on pricing but thank you for your videos!!
I feel like I got a gem when I purchased my 2015 Equinox I4. Doesn’t burn oil and I’ve actually never had a problem with it. I normally take it to the track and always run premium. Only problem I’ve ever had is an exhaust manifold leak and am going to do the repair soon. Overall for me this has been an amazing car.
2:51 There is a TSB on PCV blockage. TSB 14882. Blockage of the pcv system causes excessive crankcase pressure and can blow out the rear main seal. The intake needs to be removed and the port checked for blockage. I have also seen pcv blockages cause major oil consumption.
I’m sorry to hear about your problems with Equinox, I have a2015 Equinox 6 cylinder & only replaced the battery this yr. I get oil changed regularly & am happy with it 6 yrs this month. My only complaint is after 2008 Impala, the Equinox uses more gas!
I have a 2015, 2.4 engine, less than 47,000 miles. The timing chain literally chewed up the top bracket. Replaced it and next day started stalling, didn't want to go, and kept trying to die. Got it to my mechanic amd chain jumped causing a whole side of lifters to be in pieces just sitting in my engine. These vehicles should be recalled. I've found numourous complaints on these cars.
Can we all agree now these days card companies are focusing on sensors backup cameras all these fancy things accept a good engine in a good transmission literally there are trash I drive a 2005 Honda Pilot with 300 thousand miles on it still strong and I'm going to drive until falls apart
No need for it fall apart. The K24 is a beast of a motor in your pilot but I’m sure it’s getting pretty worn. You can rebuild it to like new for maybe $1000 in parts and get another 350k miles. $2500 or so should make suspension and brakes like new. Maybe another $2500 for odds and ends and you got a known quantity of car that should last much longer with less maintenance than a new $35,000 equivalent. Labor for all that might be another $3,000 but you’d still be less than a quarter cost of the new one for a better one.
I have a 2015 Equinox, i really like it and so far it has been reliable, 117000kms on it now. One thing i did notice is that when i changed engine oil according to Chevys specs (10,000kms) some crud or grit maybe call it grime would build up on the end of the dipstick, this started by the 2nd to 3rd year. Once i noticed this and had heard that people were rebuilding them at 150,000 or so even 120,000 i started changing my engine oil at 5000kms or approx 55 engine hrs, (it has an engine hr clock in the computer). some say it being over paranoid or spending money for nothing BUT if i can get more life out of it, make it last longer the money i spend on oil changes will be a lot cheaper than an engine job. Anyway, just some info i wanted to pass along, Thanks.
GM is in the business of selling new cars they could care less if an engine fails for what might be the second or third owner at 150,000 kms. Under warranty failures that is another story since giving a customer a new engine eats into profits.
Thank you.. As I'm on 87, 000 miles.. I've been doing more oil changes. Engine sludge clean out every 2 yrs roughly.. I've had little problems so far. Just basic maintance. Tires, brakes, cleaned the transmission fluid this last oil change. Had 2 censors replaced. Just did the muffler and tire rotation.... It's been a very reliable vehicle.. I love my equinox (2015). I'd buy another.
I have a 2010 equinox and I can say that these cars are junk. Mine has been not bad to me overall considering its age and haveing 298000kms now. Burns a bit of oil (which is supposed to be normal) i run 5w40 full synthetic diesel engine oil in it nzow and it runs real good on that for over 30000kms now burns waaayyyy less oil with that slightly thicker oil. But these cars are still junk by design. I cant fuckin change the trans oil filter which is bullshit. Checking trans oil level is retarded. (Small fill level bolt in drivers front wheel well) I look after it as best I can
@@kylebanks4003 you should try checking the transmission fluid on a Ford truck. On the F250s their little plug is like 5 inches away from the catalytic converted. I burn myself every time I do one
Factory service recommendations are always pretty garbage. I do transmission fluid every 30k and oil every 3-5k depending on if you do synthetic or not
The Nox 2.4l we had was on its 3rd timing chain with 68kmi... Brutal. Chain stretch was such an issue. Sounded like a bucket of bolts when the chain is stretched chain whipped against the timing cover.
Very helpful videos on Equinox. My teenager bought one and it has been one thing after another. I wish I would have seen this video and your other one Equinoxs when our problems started. It would have helped alot
I have a 2014 4cyl. Love the car. Just hit 130k & going strong. Holding off until next year & will be getting either an Equinox or Blazer EV…Being born & raised in a garage I am a maintenance fanatic. It didn’t start using oil until about 75K. Drives me crazy because I see no evidence of burning nor leaks. Just check it every 1st of the month & top it off.
I had experience with 2.4 and 2.2 gm ecotec from a Pontiac G6 and Chevy HHR and so far it's been reliable I have no issues ... Guys just take care of them Im sure it could run Long.
2016 Equinox 112,000 miles; solenoids quit. Dealer replaced. Two weeks later the water pump leaked. Dealer replaced ($$$). Two weeks later the motor died. New motor with 100k warranty ($$$$$$). Mechanic said that it had something to do with the oil return passages and timing chain should have been replaced when the oil pump was replaced.
Got our 2016 2.4 in 12/2018 had issues with the parts covered at 4:10 around 45k miles and 2:50 current issue of oil consumption and loss seeing sprinkling oil out of the exhaust at 83k miles.
Daughter had one. Absolute junk. Engine didn’t make it to 100k. Timing chain failure. Not to mention HVAC problems. Been a GM guy since the late 60’s. Took me a long time to figure out consumers buying late model GM cars are buying semi developed products that are likely to fail. Examples include: Vega’s aluminum block. Olds Diesel. 700R4 transmission 6.5 Diesel engine Equinox four banger 5.3 cylinder deactivation. And I’m sure I just scratched the surface No more
I have a 2015 equinox same color and engine. My wife has a 2015 Captiva with same engine. Both are reliable. The Captiva has 100K and only fix so far was a rear wheel bearing. My equinox at 60K and only fix was a faulty drive shaft that was causing the transmission to lose fluid. (I want a truck, but that RAM was a lemon, lol). Enjoying your info during quarantine!
@@1AAuto well at 115K my wife's car was burning over a quart every 600 miles. Once it started burning oil it gets worse quick. Needless to say we traded it in for a RAV4. My Equinox has 77K still no issues. Hopefully it'll stay this way but seriously doubt it. Garbage engines. Nobody should ever buy a 2.4L Ecotec engine. Stay far far away. Pure garbage.
I have a 2014 Equinox at 165,000 miles. It just threw the P0420 code again. This will be the 3rd catalytic converter in 2 years. The last one was installed 2 months ago. The catalytic converter has a 3 year warranty. An oil change was done and I am at 87% on it currently. What can I do for it to quit fouling out the cat?
I've had my 2014 Equinox from 66k-160k and I've gone through two VVT solenoids as well as the constant oil consumption. Surprised there's no mention of the exhaust manifold cracking every 80k miles. Definitely seems to be a pattern on these.... I won't buy another Chevy!
One of my vehicles is a 2011 Equinox LT, I use it to go to work and basically to go everywhere, bought it used in 2014 for less than 12k with 60 000ish miles, I had 0 problem with it, got me to point A to B. Now since late winter the engine burns it's own oil and smells like oil at start-ups, I mix the oil with some sealing product made for oil burners to reduce it, IT WORKS, burns alot less oil it got 185 700 miles at the moment.
I have a '15 Equinox. Just a few days ago on a very cold day, I noticed a huge oil spot on my driveway after my wife had gone to work. We live less than a mile to her work. I immediately went to her work to check her car out, and sure enough there was big puddle of oil beneath it and no oil showing on the dipstick. I had the car towed to the local dealer and the tow truck driver told me it was the second equinox he had towed that day with the same problem. Turns out the pcv valve had frozen and the rear main seal had blown out. If we had been going down the highway at 70mph when this happened it would have been the end of the engine. Fortunately I caught it and avoided any engine damage. There is a service bulletin for this problem and although the repairs were under warranty, the dealer couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. I have changed oil in this car every 5000 miles since I've owned it, so I know that's not the issue. It is nothing more than a faulty design on GM's part. Something they should have a permanent fix for but they don't. I currently own two Chevys but I will never buy ANOTHER GM product.
Jim, I can guarantee it wont happen again, keep the tube clean, test the internal orifice at each oil change, only takes a few seconds. add one of GM's own vented oil fill cap, FC219. Go to Chevy Equinox Forum under Files, i have document on the PCV system with more details. My local dealer repairs 10-15 cars every winter, but when they come in for an oil change they will not check the PCV system or test it. Only takes a few seconds. They don't even tell customers about the TSB that could costs customers $2k. My service advisor confided in me they have been told not to mention it, due to liability reasons. Regardless of make or model, owners need to educate themselves, the manufacturers dont always have your best interest in mind. GDI is root cause for most of these problems, but they quietly make changes to the oil standards to bandaide the system.
Had the same thing happen to wife’s Equinox last winter during an extremely cold day. Rear seal blew out on her way home from work. Followed a trail of oil from our house to a few miles up the road. We were lucky that motor was ok and didn’t need replacement. Dealer was able to replace rear seal. Still set us back good chunk of $. Today we had VVT solenoids go bad. Not sure we want to face another winter with the Equinox.
2014 equinox 178K mi. Somehow is still going now has episodes where service stabilitrak and power steering warnings displayed on dash accompanied by power locks randomly locking and unlocking while transmission shifts hard when shifting from park to any gear. Replaced all 4 wheel hubs and abs sensor wires on front still has issues. Idk
+@indepmike1885 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Find me a modern American car that doesn't eat oil. When my wife had her 13 Town and Country with regular oil changes it would go through 2 to 3 quarts of oil between changes. I used a high quality synthetic oil. Also, it had no leaks for those who would as that. Thanks for the information on this car.
Have a 2013 LTZ Fwd V6 with 225k miles on it. No engine issues. Had to rebuild the transmission. No oil leaks No oil consumption. I run royal purple xpr 5 w 30 in it though so ??? Car is quiet inside and smooth. Don't know what the other comments are about since most don't list which engine they own. The 4 cylinder models seem to be the worst off.
All time GREATEST car videos. You guys are the BEST and are VERY descriptive I absolutely LOVE your content and you guys have helped me more then you can imagine! Keep it up kings! Thank you so much for all your hard work
Also fairly common codes are P0016 and P0017 codes for timing chain exhaust actuators that get stuck that will not allow the engine to advance or retard timing due to lack of oil changes or low oil in the engine. Others are cracked exhaust manifolds, passenger side axle tends to leak usually, wiper motor ball joints like to break off because they are plastic,
Have a 2013 LT 2.4 & replaced the wiper ball joints several times until GM sent me a flyer in the mail for that specific recall to replace entire wiper motor, and the 2nd thing on it was to replace the downstream O² sensor also.
I'm still getting P0011 code bcuz I chose to go cheap on the vvt solenoids 🤦♂️ installing the AC Delco brand later this week 🤞 but went ahead and ordered timing chain kit just in case LOL
I have 2016 Terrain 4 cylinder, does go through oil, and i also had the VVT solenoid which is pretty easy fix. But in the 5 years i've had it thats the only problems.
One word of caution. Only use the manual up/down shift feature for descending a steep hill not for performance driving. No, it’s not like the up/down shift you find on a Camaro or Corvette steering wheel. Let the automatic do it, otherwise sooner or later the computer will get confused and drop it down a few grears HARD and damage the transmission! Manual mode=easy on the right foot! (2014, 3.6L AWD)
2010 LTZ V6. I have a PO172/175. I'll have to buy a better scanner to see what the main issue is. 137K miles. Only ever used Mobil 1. Transfer case pinion bearing failed so that was an expensive TC replacement with a used unit. Going to try to get my original rebuilt.
O2 sensors are a problem too. I had one of these cars, 2011 2.4. P.OS. Timing chain went bad twice, the second time smoked the engine. I wouldnt piss on one of those cars if they were on fire
Gdmorning to you,I’m in Philly and 9mos ago I bought my wife a 2013 Chevy Equinox 2.4L. It’s a very beautiful vehicle and she enjoys it dearly. The problem I’m having is that she decides to go to a Chevy dealer to have it serviced! Alright cool,no problem. I get this feeling like they don’t be doing their job,(why I state that?) is because you are required to have your oil changed 3/3,000 miles. When they perform service and put the sticker up in the windshield,it states next oil change at 4-5,000miles. That’s absurd,I never heard of anything like that. So I pay attention to it and it continues to happen. I had to add (1)quart of oil last week because of a knock in the engine(that sound you get when your oil is low). I did check the information center and it states that the oil level is @ 47%. Wheel if it’s at that much then why am I adding oil? I purchased (2)qt of STP 5w-30 Dexo and threats when I had to add that one quart. My question is what do you think could be the cause of this? Is it the oil? What kind of oil is the best oil for our vehicle? This vehicle,my wife wants to have for the long haul. Can you please help us out with some helpful information,it is greatly appreciated...
+Suggysuge We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have the 2.4 L. Had the entire engine replaced at 40k luckily under warranty. I still get the oil consumption issues I replaced the throttle body at 100k. The replaced the fuel pump at 130k. Still running at 190k
Hello, this may seem minor to all the other problems but I have a 2015 Equinox and I can’t get the volume (or turn it off completely) to go down when I start the car up and the Bluetooth links to my phone, it says “phone book update failed” ridiculously loud. I know that it does this because I did not sync my phone but how do I turn this down or off? Please help!
I have a 2012 2.4L and it's been the worst! Already been threw a new timing chain job and everything else it messed up in the motor! Just got the manifold changed today because it was broke in half and now it's having problems starting. Just can't win with this vehicle!
Hi, I recently purchased a used 2017 Equinox LTV. After some rain the floor was soaked. The problem maybe the panoramic sunroof although the dealer said it looks fine. But after watching other videos about the floor being wet I think the water must be coming from the sunroof. Do you have any videos regarding this problem for my model?😮
I bought a 2013 Equinox new and after 7 years I experienced high oil consumption. I hadn't had any other issues with the vehicle just normal maintenance like oil changes, brakes, tires and battery. Anyway, I took it to my local mechanic who said there was a GM "class action" recall for 2011-2013 model year 2.4L engines experiencing high oil consumption. He took it to the dealer for me and a couple of weeks later I picked it up. The dealer had rebuilt the engine with new pistons, rings and a few other internals all free of charge. Although it ran great after the engine rebuild; I wasn't willing to take a chance again on an American brand with parts sourced from who knows where, so I traded it in for a '21 Mazda CX9.
@3:36 - rear main seal oil leak can be caused by plugged PCV orifice in intake manifold + frozen water in PCV hose on intake manifold. Crankcase pressure blows out rear main seal on crankshaft. Plus these are known to have cracked exhaust manifold issues. My 2013 Equinox is the last Chevy/GM product I will buy.
just went through a new timing chain on a equinox 2010. They were stretched, threw a p0016 & p0017 codes. Finding someone competent was a challenge and he did a great job. While this was going on it threw havoc on to both catalytic converters with a p0430 & p0420. Had to replace both of them :( LT 3.0
2 4L has been a nightmare for me. Timing chain, replaced rings after burning through most of the oil between changes, camshaft position sensor, timing sensor, cracked exhaust manifold. Tie-in we discovered while the vehicle was going to the dealer for service that the A.C. relay was removed. We are now so done with GM. I have to say...they dont seem to care to make a quality vehicle anymore. Update 10/2020 The Exhaust Manifold (aftermarket) survived only 2 years. I have exhaust making its way back into my cabin once again...time for more work.
What year is yours? I heard 2010-2013 were the worst my 2015 had oxygen sensor Flex fuel sensor go out. and water in gas tank..had mechanic replace the PVC and sending units..so my oil isn’t burning yet only at 51K miles...... 70K is the pivot point on these 2.4L...good or bad ...
I have a 2014 Equinox with the 2.4. 160,000 miles. Been stalling after startup for a while. Replaced the throttle body and intake gaskets but no improvement. Had a cracked exhaust manifold a year and a half ago and partially melted oxygen sensor. Replaced plugs at 100,000 and I change my oil every 5,000 miles. Got a P2096 code today and I haven’t had a chance to look but I’m betting the exhaust manifold cracked again. We’ve actually been pretty fortunate with ours but I do all my own work so someone who has to pay to get things done might be understandably upset.
We have a 2011 equinox with the 2.4L engine........ it's been the most expensive car to maintain we've ever owned. It's the best marketing tool Toyota and Honda have.
When the lights and DTC codes start appearing, get a can of De-Oxit, an aerosol for electronic technicians which eliminates built up corrosion in in-line connectors and in bolt-on ground connections, and in loose positive and negative battery connections, particularly negative cable connections to engine, suspension subframe, and chassis. Chevrolet uses cheap wires so always use the tug test to check the strength of the wires inside the insulation, and a DVOM to check voltage, resistance and continuity .(see D-Ray Smith's YT channel from about 2011 and how he diagnosed and fixed these problems on a 2500 series Chevy truck.). Because the 2.4 engine injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber, the oil sucked in by EVAP system tends to cool down and coat the backs of intake valves as well as all of the intake valve stems that are not wiped off by the valve seals, instead of burning up as planned. It gets worse as time goes on, and the blocked intake air flow can affect engine performance. Some people have had success in curing the piston ring problem by either adding Engine Restore to the engine oil, of by using Sea Foam as directed. Sea Foam also makes an aerosol product that helps remove oil build-up on the intake valves of these direct injection engines. See the Project Farm YT channel for actual tests of these and similar products. As designed GM decided to use a light to tell you when the oil needed to be changed, instead of changing at recommended mileage intervals, and forgot to mention that using synthetic oil was a requirement, not a suggestion. They also neglected to tell you to check the oil level frequently and to top it up if it was low. Now, any oil you put in one of these engines must be certified as meeting GM's DEXOS 2 specifications. GM won't admit it, but they offered and performed a water pump/balance shaft chain replacement under warranty when my vehicle had roughly 75,000 miles on it. They had to remove the cam timing chain and cam chain tensioner to do this job correctly and do a reset of the timing of two cam shafts in relation to the crankshaft in a specified orientation, but apparently didn't pay dealers for this, the most critical part, of the repair. The dealer's mechanics didn't reset my cam chain tensioner correctly, and it internally broke into many small steel pieces which blocked the oil flow to the tensioner, causing a no tension situation, i.e. it failed completely in a few thousand miles after the warranty repair, allowing the camshafts to jump timing due to low chain tension. Instead of examining and addressing the problem of cheap, very breakable chain tensioners losing to ability to keep the cam chain tight, they blamed the problem on "stretched chains.". Cam chains are in a constant oil bath - how could they stretch beyond the ability of a well-made chain tensioner to maintain chain tension even when mechanics take shortcuts in resetting them. There was no measurable stretch when I compared my old chain to my new chain before I rebuilt the cam chain system in my vehicle.
My engine is being replaced at the present for most of these reasons that you mentioned. There were 5 codes thrown, 4 besides the ones you mentioned. The Stabil Trax light came on as well as the service Stabil Trax message with engine running at low power and check engine light. My vehicle is a 2.4 2013 Equinox with 114,000 miles. It has been two and a half weeks and still waiting for replacement engine.
I have the 2.4l as well and the motor blew at 70,000 miles. Thank God it was still under warranty. Trying to get it paid off so I can trade it I'm for something else I have only heard bad things about these cars. I do love mine but I don't have much extra money for stuff to go wrong so I think I'll just get a Toyota next time lol
You say chain many times... I've never seen metal streach, Wear maybe. However, belts do streach. Good to know gm actually blatantly admits it's a POS. Great job on the video.
2016 code p0013 and p0014 is it the sensor or camshaft? I replaced the intake not 8 months ago. i have many other codes like b2575, b3006, b3125, u1538: is this a multi sensor issue of a ECM issue?
Thank you so much!! Great advice. My 2015 does use oil, but no leaks yet. Will keep on top of that issue & the others you mention. Really appreciate your insights :))
I call these aircunox because the head gaskets go after 150k on every one of these i have a picture to show you the halfazz gasket gm put in these things they didn’t punch a triangle hole for the air/antifreeze flow the used a 3in drill bit
My daughter in law bought a 2010 equinox with very low miles. It burned a half quart of oil between gas fill ups. It was the LAF series engine and it burned so much oil it was not drivable. The dealer actually told her a half quart per tank of gas was normal...
P0300, p0303 and high fuel on bank 1. Installed new ac plugs, coils and oxygen sensor. Cleaned maf and Mao sensor. New air filter and batter. Problem remains on my 2.4l. What else can I check or replace ?
We have a 2013 Equinox and the resonator and exhaust manifold was replaced at 76k miles. It’s always garaged, but live in Minnesota with all the winter salt on roads. The lower door seams rust from the inside out. I treated them, but it only slows the rust down. Bad design putting clips in the doors to hold the plastic exterior pieces. Always dislike the use of plastic trim on American cars.
Also problems with the shifter cable or shifter cable bushing failing, and the windshield wiper transmission assembly breaking at the plastic bushings, dangerous if driving in stormy conditions when it occurs (which was my case).
I have a 2011 Equinox and have the warning light that “AC shut off due to high engine temp”. Forums abound on this issue and my mechanic tells me that one in four Chevy engines will have this issue. Turns out the coolant temperature sensor failed, with only 60,000 miles on our car.
I bought a '13 Equinox t years ago with 66,000 miles. I changed oil in this car for the first time using Mobil One. 800 miles later,it used 1 qt. I added and noticed the oil was very dirty,I changed it at 1000 miles using Mobil One again, same results. At 1000 miles I switched to Valvoline full synthetic,it used 1 qt at 1500 miles. Makes no sense to me. Since then,I change it every 2500 miles, hasn't gotten better or worse. With 126,000 miles, the oil looks bad with only 500 miles on it. Runs good. It's hard to believe the same company that made the "iron duke" made this thing! This is the last car I'll buy with 5 miles of timing chain. I'm strongly considering replacing the Equinox with a Chevy Corvair I'm finishing up.
When I first got my exquinox, the check engine light came on right after I bought it (used) it was for the upperstream oxygen sensor. Changed it out n everything was fine for a while. Then I realized after a routine check oil level, that it was rly low even tho I had just got a oil change not even a month ago. And now half a year later it does this weird thing where if I just get in in it and go, it will drive real crappy at first n it has a catilyst effiency error code its throwing now. N ,it will slow down even when I pushing down on the gas. So now I've gotten into the routine of checking my oil every week once, letting the car warm up for at least 5 minutes before I try to drive it. And I have to sit in there while it's warming up because sometimes it will just straight up die. But if I'm there and I see it trying to die I Rev the engine a little and eventually it will stop trying to die. .... I took it to a mechanic and even they couldn't figure it out. Going to change out the downstream oxygen sensor next to see if that fixes the dieing problem but if it don't I think I'm going to trade it in. That or go to different mechanic n see what they think.
Trying to diagnose my daughters 2014 Chevy equinox p2097 p2270 p0014 p0137 vehicle cranks but won't start. I know that she needs the VVT sensors replaced but I am thinking that her car may need to have a timing chain replacement. She was driving on the freeway car bogged down then stalled and we haven't been able to start it since. Any advice would be appreciated.
How do I know if my vehicle has been serviced for the recalls? I have a lot of oil conception I have a 2011 Chevy Equinox and nothing I have looked up through my van is coming up for my car.
Hi Where is the PCV Valve Breather location? One is somewhere near the front, and one in in the back of the intake somewhere, it is silver part that has two holes on the top. If you can please show a picture of there location. Thank You.
Yup these problems are real I have a 2016 Chevy equinox and I have the solidnoid issue and changed them myself now I’m have a leaking issue and I bet it’s the rear main seal he’s talking about
HELP!!!! I have a 2012 LT I've had an issue where the car overheats during the summer and I have to rev the engine high to push fluid through to cool the engine You can actually hear the fluid move through when I do this. When I got the car I didn't know how to do that so I took it to a dealer It was there for almost 6 months and I spent thousands trying to fix this overheating issue. I still have the problem it was never fixed. Now whenever I drive in hot weather or for long distance, I have to rev the engine every few minutes to cool it. Any ideas as to what this could be?
I have a 2013 Chevy equinox having a similar problem just by the video it seem like my throttle body is messing up I thought it was my mass air flow sensor I changed that and the car start picking up more which was great but it keep stalling like my timing is off and it keep shutting off when I brake for too long and I have the same codes like you state in the video I just don't know what to do I take it to get looked at again soon
2010 READ UP AND DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THESE EQUINOXES CERTAIN YEARS HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES . I GOT MY INFO. FROM CONSUMER REPORTS. 2016 WAS A GREAT YEAR AND IF YOU DRIVE WHERE THERE IS SNOW AND HILLS GET THE AWD VERSION.
I have a 2015 Chevy Equinox. So far a pretty good running vvehicle. EVAP solenoid has failed and I just found out I need a differential case. I might as well start looking for a new car.
Can confirm on my 2015 Equinox the VTT Solenoids went bad after about 5yrs of use. Twice, actually. The first time the check engine light came on, it thankfully didn't stall my vehicle at all. Covered under warranty, not sure which they replaced. No more than 6 months later, the other one must have went as the same wording was used on the invoice. This time it definitely stalled my engine a number of times -- at a light of course. Also under warranty. Now my exhaust piping's rusted and split, parts ordered..not looking forward to the $$$ since that's not covered :(
I feel the high feature flex fuel 3.0 V6 is the best engine of the bunch, its basically the same engine they put in the caddy cts of that era. As long as you change the oil as you should, its bullet proof. (It's not plagued by the timing chain issue that the 3.6 has) The I4 and 3.6 V6 have more issues from my experience. I would avoid the I4 at all costs, it's a bad engine.
I have a 2016 chevy equinox ltz awd and this is the third time I have changed the vvt solenoid P0011 and its still has a check engine light on what else could be the problem that's tripping this code ?
HEY HEY HEY I HAVE A 2016 CHEVROLET EQUINOX AND IT IS LEAKING INSIDE ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE IT IS NOT THE SUNROOF OR THE WIND SHIELD WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IT IS THANK YOU VERY MUCH 😀👍👍🙏🙏🙏
You didnt mention that there was a class action lawsuit because of the excessive oil consumption, also the way they designed the pcv valve which is not easily accessible at all unless you take off the plastic manifold which isn't easy to remove either.
1qt per 2k is acceptable? That’s insane and their explanation for their screw up. At that rate you’re sure to eventually foul the catalytic converter. You’ll know when you get a P0420. We have a 2011 2.4L and amazingly have done very little to it other than oil changes every 3 to 4k. Currently 183k and recently replaced the catalytic converter(rusted flex section), exhaust manifold and lower control arms. I did replace the oil cap with one that prevents excessive crankcase pressure shortly after purchase. I did this per a GM mechanic I know. He also strongly suggested oil changes every 3k.
Did anyone have a problem with their cruise control on Nox? I was going 40 ish through Atlanta and then once I was out of Atlanta traffic cleared out (2 am) and then increased my speed ( interstate driving) by using the up button on CC and it jerked and sped up more than I pushed up the button, but then I also was pushing the CC down. I ended up going 92. The cruise never acted like this before. Was this a user problem, or did those things mentioned for cruise control get mixed up? I just had the windshield wiper motor repaired. Please help. Edit: V6 LT 2013.😢
My 2010 LTZ 3.0 Is constantly eating the front passenger's wheel bearing, 2nd time I had to have it replaced being like every 4 to 5 years. Is this normal??

Unreliable junk even gmc terrain is better even buick is better
I’m going through the same thing.
Look up Chevy Equinox engine code P0010 you’ll get your solution for the stalling :))
Why don't they have a recall with so many problems
The way you present the information in this video is harmonious with my learning style and I'm incredibly thankful for this clearly laid out information!
This video is spot on.. I recently replaced the Intake and Exhaust solenoids and during the oil change, noticed an oil leak. I got under and cleaned things up to see where it was coming from. It seemed to be coming from the EXACT spot you pointed in your example. Thanks...
As usual you guys do a great service to us viewers. I find your videos VERY helpful. Thank you.
+Darlene Bennett Thanks for the feedback!
These cars are garbage on purpose.
@@tvviewer4500 what do you mean? They deliberately make them money pits so that they can keep milking it out of their customers? I'll go with that.
Worst vehicle I’ve ever had
The metal timing chain is on a plastic pulley for some crazy reason. GMC should be made to pay for this flaw
@@cornellmmggibson9688 they do now... we had our timing chain stretch and it skipped timing and they replaced it free of charge.
Can we all agree now these days card companies are focusing on sensors backup cameras all these fancy things accept a good engine in a good transmission literally there are trash I drive a 2005 Honda Pilot with 300 thousand miles on it still strong and I'm going to drive until falls apart
06 MDX the thing is a tank
(Small fill level bolt in drivers front wheel well)
I look after it as best I can
@@kylebanks4003 you should try checking the transmission fluid on a Ford truck. On the F250s their little plug is like 5 inches away from the catalytic converted. I burn myself every time I do one
Factory service recommendations are always pretty garbage. I do transmission fluid every 30k and oil every 3-5k depending on if you do synthetic or not
Thanks for Posting This Video.. i Was Gonna Buy A 2013 Equinox 4 Cylinder BUT After Hearing ALL The Issues, I'm Gonna Pass..
The Nox 2.4l we had was on its 3rd timing chain with 68kmi... Brutal. Chain stretch was such an issue. Sounded like a bucket of bolts when the chain is stretched chain whipped against the timing cover.

Holding off until next year & will be getting either an Equinox or Blazer EV…Being born & raised in a garage I am a maintenance fanatic. It didn’t start using oil until about 75K. 2016 Equinox 112,000 miles; solenoids quit. Dealer replaced. Two weeks later the water pump leaked. Dealer replaced ($$$). Two weeks later the motor died. New motor with 100k warranty ($$$$$$). Not to mention HVAC problems.
Been a GM guy since the late 60’s. Took me a long time to figure out consumers buying late model GM cars are buying semi developed products that are likely to fail. Examples include:
Vega’s aluminum block.
Olds Diesel.
700R4 transmission
6.5 Diesel engine
Equinox four banger
5.3 cylinder deactivation.
And I’m sure I just scratched the surface
No more
I have a 2015 equinox same color and engine.

@@felixgohier1638 what kind of sealing product do you recommend?
@@1AAuto What brand tires do you reccomend for a 2016 Chevy Equinox LT with the 2.4 Liter engine?
Was it a V6 or 4 cyl?
G.m. has an oil cap with a tiny hole in it so this doesn't happen again make sure they gave you one
2014 equinox 178K mi. Somehow is still going now has episodes where service stabilitrak and power steering warnings displayed on dash accompanied by power locks randomly locking and unlocking while transmission shifts hard when shifting from park to any gear.

Find me a modern American car that doesn't eat oil. When my wife had her 13 Town and Country with regular oil changes it would go through 2 to 3 quarts of oil between changes. I used a high quality synthetic oil. Also, it had no leaks for those who would as that.

Also fairly common codes are P0016 and P0017 codes for timing chain exhaust actuators that get stuck that will not allow the engine to advance or retard timing due to lack of oil changes or low oil in the engine. Others are cracked exhaust manifolds, passenger side axle tends to leak usually, wiper motor ball joints like to break off because they are plastic,
P0017 is the code coming up on my girlfriend’s 2.4l. 😅😅😅
It’s also good for towing or slippery conditions to keep it in the proper gear.
Mustache disappears @2:22. Reappears @ 2:45.

Because of another poor design.
What engine do you have?
This happend to me too. Chevy must not design around temperature fluctuations.
just went through a new timing chain on a equinox 2010. They were stretched, threw a p0016 & p0017 codes. Finding someone competent was a challenge and he did a great job. While this was going on it threw havoc on to both catalytic converters with a p0430 & p0420. Had to replace both of them :( LT 3.0
How much did it cost you?
How much does a timing chain cost I have a P0016 code right now
Love 1 A Auto . I wish they had a extreme service Parts line.
EVERY car will have it's specific issues. Hope you actually don't go Soyota due to the lingering unintentional acceleration problems.
Agreed I’m getting rid of mine the oil consumption is ridiculous
@@JN-mk2fh Lol that a weak argument, from 2010, that was never proven.. pathetic .
I have a 2016 with the 2.4 and it accelerates slowly it idles roughly and I have no idea
I have 2 Equinoxes. They are awesome! No problems
I have found so much value in these breakdowns

You have the best auto repair videos on the net. Excellent,...Thank You,...
We have a 2011 equinox with the 2.4L engine........ it's been the most expensive car to maintain we've ever owned. It's the best marketing tool Toyota and Honda have.
+Dennis Ohl Thanks for the feedback!
+Anonymous98 Thanks for the feedback and tips!
I’m looking to buy this same Yeah vehicle. So been doing research. Being I’m going alone needed to have a idea what to look for so thank you!!
Do not buy the Chevy Equinox total lemon of a car.
You just said a lot sir you are spot on
Rain X is a fantastic balance of price and performance. So much better than untreated glass.
A very good explanation! Thank you very much, respect from Armenia!
This ended being a check list for me.
It wasnt much what i needed to know but i like the way you explain things
Hi
Where is the PCV Valve Breather location? One is somewhere near the front, and one in in the back of the intake somewhere, it is silver part that has two holes on the top. If you can please show a picture of there location.
Thank You.
Yup these problems are real I have a 2016 Chevy equinox and I have the solidnoid issue and changed them myself now I’m have a leaking issue and I bet it’s the rear main seal he’s talking about

HELP!!!!
I have a 2012 LT
I've had an issue where the car overheats during the summer and I have to rev the engine high to push fluid through to cool the engine
You can actually hear the fluid move through when I do this.
When I got the car I didn't know how to do that so I took it to a dealer
It was there for almost 6 months and I spent thousands trying to fix this overheating issue.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the viewers, so helpful. I am contemplating on getting a 2010 4Cyl type.
Don't buy these. You will be doing repairs all the time. Not reliable
Problems with timing chains and oil consumption buy a later model 2014
Don't buy it. I have one. It sucks
2010 READ UP AND DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THESE EQUINOXES CERTAIN YEARS HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES . I GOT MY
INFO. FROM CONSUMER REPORTS. 2016
WAS A GREAT YEAR AND IF YOU DRIVE WHERE THERE IS SNOW AND HILLS GET THE AWD VERSION.
@@garmin1488 does 2014 not have those issues?
Thank you . I believe this video may help. i am having a power issue with the pedal or throttle body. So i am going to check
You should have added the exhuast manifold cracking on the 2.4. Very common.
I wonder if that’s where my exhaust leak is coming from? How do you check that?
Yeah I have a '11 LTZ 4cyl and when I start up or put in reverse the tailpipe rattle's like hell why the hell no wonder the exhaust bust's
I have a 2014 equinox LT and this helped a lot! Thank you
How has the car been to you since?
this just help me understand keeping up with my chevy 2013
hi , i have a 2012 equinox 3.0L awd whit 160.000 km love my car only thing a change it wheel bearing and rear shock ,.but i do my oil change evry spring and fall no matter the km i did ,.and i dont do much lol ,.but after 150 ,000 km i change all the iol in the transmission , transfer case and diffenciel and now i got transmission problem it dosent shift right i re- check oil level was find ,.? now im thinking it maybe the selenoid shifter in the transmission that do not work properly ????
This is very helpful, thank you! I have a rear main seal leak. My Dad told me I was crazy.
I have a 2013 Chevy equinox with the 4 cylinder. After driving it input the car in park and turn it off and it has a lot of run-on or dieseling. Any ideas on a fix?
Good morning I have a 2013 and I have replaced the vacuum hose know I'm have a problem with idling. When I'm setting and have the car on it would do a up and down noise
+William Bryant We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have a 2011 Chevy equinox and it cuts out when I’m accelerating onto the bypass what could that be it’s only when I’m pressing the gas pedal
