Very useful... You answered two of the most mysterious questions, to find answers for... Unless you want to sit through a 45-minute video of someone harping on about things that just confuse you... Thank you very much
@@kitinlub You can mix the varnish in with the paint, that's a glaze medium. But typically you apply varnish at the end after the paint has dried for a couple days to give it that finish...either gloss, satin or matte. Depending on what type of varnish you applied.
want to say an isolation layer is likely any kind of protective coating you put on after, such as a varnish for woods or er... some other kind of stuff for canvas?
Because it's been 8 months and the OP hasn't bothered to respond here you go: An isolation later (at least for acrylics) is usually a clear acrylic medium. Something like a fluid medium, gel, or spray clear coat (but more so the former rather than the later for a mid-painting coat). Although you also DON'T under any circumstance NEED an isolation layer. This is a preference by this OP and not a rule. Unless you're thinning your acrylics to the point where there's more water than paint (and sometimes even then), an isolation coat is meaningless.
I'm trying to thin my paint to use in an airbrush for shoe customization. My concern is that depending on the material of the shoe, I might add something called 2-hard or 2-soft and from what I've read it's supposed to be a 1:1 ratio of paint to 2-hard or 2-soft. If I use one of those additives, can you tell me how much paint, additive and water I should be using for an airbrush?
Water is ok to break down acrylic, but matte medium is better. Acrylic doesn’t really break down in the most ideal manner with standard water. If you want something a bit more consistent for thinning i would go with watercolor or gouache. I get that they are more expensive but it depends on what you are looking to accomplish.
Why the hell would u say just regular old water is good to thin down ur paint then say u need isolation layers, that’s like saying “get this free pack of 6 brushes absolutely 100 percent FREE!!! For $9.99 plus shipping and handling.
I mean, cause the water will thin the paints, but it won’t stick well. it’s more like “hey here’s this six pack of brushes FREE. Oh but i have no paint “
What even is an "isolation layer"??? I'm still relatively new to the world of paint and know almost none of the tricks of the trade other than elementary school art class. (If it helps, I came here because people said I should thin my paint when applying it to models/figurines.)
This video is to short to offer a clear explanation . You say """"""""""""""""""""""to put an isolation layer on over top to make sure it stays """"""""""""""""""""""""". Ok so I dilute the acrylic and apply that over the dry isolation layer or I apply the isolation layer over the diluted acrylic once it is dry?. What isolation layer ? How much diluted the acrylic need to be in order to require those extra steps as precaution ? Makes sense what am I saying ?.
Art is about being creative. Putting your vision on to a canvas for eg. Unfortunately Most art teachers at school are so bad they dont let the student unleash their creativity, and instead tell the students what they have to do. It's sad because that student they hold back could be holding back vast amounts of talent. Thanks for the great tip to thinning down acrylic BTW.
I think he just means a clear acrylic topcoat, sealant, or clear coat. It should be right there next to the acrylic paints. I think you can even choose flat or matte, semi-gloss or satin, or high gloss. I’m not dead sure about that, but I seem to recall more than one finish. There may even be some kind of spray-on or brush-on final fixative that would be the last thing you do before you take it off the easel to put in the dumpst .... uuhhh ... that is .. uh, ... I mean your uh, your display area he he he... That would make sure everything stays put and doesn’t smudge or smear, and may even provide some UV blocking as well.
hi from the raterhub exam

@@nriqueog thank you!!!!
So u mix the varnish in the paint??? I thought the varnish is only applied at the end, to give the painting gloss??

Great. But what do you mean by isolation layer. That,s double Dutch to me. I'm just starting. Thanks

Or just a layer of undiluted acrylic over the top to seal it.
Basically clear paint
As soon as I heard "that scummy pond water", I hit the subscribe button lol. Great Info!
My favorite!

@@cinderblockstudiosthank you!!!
thank you. what kind of isolation layer can I use?
I’d use fixatives if I don’t wanna use varnish then you can’t paint on top anymore💀
*throw Holy Water on canvas and prays to the Holy Lord Himself anyway*

Hello,
Can I use Matte Mod Podge as an isolation layer? Thank you
Sorry, I'm a beginner. I don know neither an Isolation Layer nor Matte Mod Podge! Pls explain. 😊
Please can you tell me how to dilute the texture paste to work with it longer. Are there any pouring available for the texture paste?
How much water should I use to thin Soft body acrylic for pours on canvas?
Isolation is when you spray clear gloss over a painting to stabilize it, I THINK!? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
More questions then answers :(

What's a isolation painting
What are you referring to when you say "You have to put on a isolation layer" do you mean a primer like acrylic gesso?
I mean adding a layer of medium. I explain further in this video on how to use isolation layers: ua-cam.com/video/sDLHvwdwOes/v-deo.html
Whats a medium
whats an isolation layer
Once your done painting use a varnish to seal everything
So i mixed my acrylic with matt gloss.. Can i still add water to make it more fluid?

I have read that no more than 30% water should be added,is this correct?
