  • Big Lollopy Dog gets a new Turbo Cartridge which cures his oil addiction! I get back-ache and sore hands, and a warm fuzzy feeling of a good result . . . ! And, an interesting development . . . !

    Thank you so much for putting this video together and sharing your information, regards Roy 👍

      Thanks Roy! Did not do any good in the end though. Get a decent cartridge and it should be okay, and mark the two halves before dismantling!

    Another great video, I'm sure I will have to do this on my Disco in the future, and now I can see what the job entails.

      £99 for the cartridge and £13 for the gaskets from Ebay. I have to admit that I had not been looking forward to it, but, as it turned out, it was easier than I expected. Took about 2and a half hours in real time. The weather didn't help. Still did my back in though!

    I'm dreading this job, not because it's difficult but because it's an issue finding a good quality, reliable cartridge! Is yours still going well, no problems?

      Sorry to say but mine is chucking oil into the engine again. I have tried cheap stuff on ebay and found it to be rubbish. My Disco is scrap anyway now after the MOT but if forced I would try to source a reputable supplier. I have been recomended GT Turbos of Bradford. I would try them. Going cheap does not work. Other than that, it's an easy job to do.

    Thanks for sharing, most useful as I will have to do this on my car soon. My TD5 runs OK but I noticed excess play on the turbine which worries me. I have been investigating intermittent poor performance for many months and have been going through all the usual TD5 faults. Not sure the turbo is the culprit but the cartridge will need changing in any event. I did wonder about a used turbo complete - less work and cheaper?

    • @sleepycatpictures1176
      @sleepycatpictures1176  4 роки тому

      Certainly less work, but unless the turbo is from a reputable source, it could be just as bad as the old one. the play in mine was not bad, it was the oil seals which had gone. Check the pipe from the intercooler to the egr. Mine had a lot of oil in it, still has to be honest but that's because I didn't clean the system out afterwards. It should dssipate in time. Check the ECU red plug too for any oil. That causes bad performance.

    Excellent video, need to do mine soon so was very helpful...just curious did it make any difference performance wise afterwards?

      Ah, I'll explain in the follow up vid to come! And mine is the 10p engine, so I'm not sure how much difference there is between 10p and 15p engines.

      @@leighriley6277 I am really pleased to hear of someone having a reliable TD5. I say that because I hate theTD5, probably because I have found it to be the worst engine I have ever owned. Proves the point of opposites though!

    Great videos. I have discovery TD5 and the car do not run excellently, especially when it stop in the traffic light and when start again, its difficult to run smoothly.Is this a turbo cartridge problem? .Do I need to change the cartridge only or the whole turbo engine?
    Thanks

    • @sleepycatpictures1176
      @sleepycatpictures1176  3 роки тому

      I would check the intercooler pipe to the intake manifold for excess oil first. If there is a lot, it could be from the turbo, or too much crankcase pressure throwing oil into the turbo. Or a vacuum leak which is causing too much pressure in the engine. As for changing the cartridge of the turbo, that is up to you. It is difficult to find a good supplier of quality parts. A good second-hand original complete turbo would be as good as a cheap cartridge. There might also be a different problem altogether. Is the injector harness clean of oil at the ECU? Is the fuel pump and filter okay? Is there water in the fuel? Good luck with it anyway!

      Ah, sorry. Turbo has gone, car has gone. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I still have the box. I must say though, that this cartridge started to leak oil just before I scrapped the car. I would not use another one.

      @@tonygoulding9086 Mm, sounds cheap. I wish you all the best with that. Let me know how it goes. Check the red plug into the ECU for oil. That causes misfiring. I need to do my injector harness but it's too cold!!! Is the oil level rising? I changed the seals on Big Lollopy but it turned out to be a cracked head.
