  • Airdate: February 5, 1966
    Paul Revere & the Raiders’ “Steppin’ Out” only reached #46 back in October ’65, but it was the beginning of an incredible run of 7 top 20 and 4 top 10 hits from 1965-1967. In this year alone (1966) they will have 3 top 10 hits including “Kicks”, “Hungry” and “Good Thing”.
    “I See The Light” is the Five Americans’ first top 40 hit. It is at #45 today and will peak at #26 in March. They will have to wait until 1967 to score their next song in the top 40 but it will be their biggest hit, “Western Union”, which peaked at #5 in 1967.
    “Batman” premiered on ABC last month on Jan. 12. The t-shirt that guitarist Drake Levin is revealed to be wearing was used to promote the show. The t-shirts were also given away as prizes for today’s Rate A Record judges (“Children & Flowers/It’s A Day). The sign that Phil “Fang” Volk is holding says “BATMAN IS COMING” which was most likely used on Bandstand at an earlier taping to also promote the TV series (the sign was not used or mentioned in today’s episode). Later this year, on Nov. 2, Paul Revere & the Raiders will appear on an episode of “Batman” titled “Hizzonner the Penguin”.
    Dancing on the scuffed dance floor today are regulars: Lauren Montgomery (3:07), Terry Cooksley (4:38), Debbie Sewell (4:48), Melody McMurray (5:02) and Frank Vanderpuil (5:09).

      It would be nice to go back, get a ticket for this show, and see it live. Here's the funny thing. In 1966, the WW2 generation thought the country had gone to pot... Lol

It really adds to the authenticity of the 1969 time period. There's a scene here on YT that shows this. Type in the name Cliff Booth, and check it out.

      alan spagnolia We didn’t have slumber parties. We lived in a small 3-berm flat w/2 parents, 3 teenagers & 1 grade schooler. Not much room. Loved watching “Where the Action Is”, listening to AM radio and just being young. Big-time Beatles fans but appreciated PR&R always!

    • @marykuranda7254
      @marykuranda7254 4 роки тому +1

      alan spagnolia You have nothing to apologize for. We owned our own house and I guess we were working class, middle class. If there is such a thing. No, we were not the Brady Bunch. I had no brothers and our parents sent us all to private school for 12 years. We lived comfortably but all of us pulled our weight. Both my parents worked. Us teens took summer jobs when we were of age. We babysat my sister’s kids when they were small. Most people in our neighborhood were the same kind of hardworking people. Back then we were lucky to have things, like a color TV in 1965, 1966. So, we were not poor, just had different priorities. Music was always playing in our house including Sunday polkas on the radio (we thought it was passé then, but I’ve come to appreciate the music). The ‘60’s were good in a lot of ways. We were young, our whole lives were before us, we had great music. Would not trade it for the world. It was great being young and being a teenager. We lived in the big city and had many opportunities to see bands and groups. We were so spoiled in that regard. We lived in a “golden age “ so to speak. TMI. Don’t apologize. Regards...

    So funny to see the old AB shows and "Where the Action Is" and "Shindig" where The Radiers had a lot of fun!
    The Five Americans with "I See the Light"... Man! This tune of 1965 I really dig! Cranked up the radio volume super loud when it was on! I think I first heard its popularity in early 1966. I recall it so much that the tune always brings me around to one gal I had a "crush on, some" with her initials being P.G. The time I started to like her, another fellow moved in. That was okay to me after a short while...I got over it and sometime in the '70's they got married though, it didn't last. Sadly, the fellow passed away just a few years ago (2020). He was a nice guy.

    Theatrical with a Little Rock and Roll...dash of “garage rock”...a precursor to punk...one of a kind band that Clark promoted with his tv productions..thoroughly enjoy them today via my playlist...and the Five Americans definitely had a solid garage band sound but hit it big with their more “pop “ sounding song, “Western Union “. I remember that song in heavy rotation on top 40 am radio about the same time (?) as “Happy Together” and “Yellow Balloon “...
