I Had A Dream was a stand-out, because of the wonderful, Vox Continental work! And, the Summer of '65, simply would not have been the same; without Kicks, and thier presence on television! And, it wasn't long then, before I saw them live, in Tulsa... and by '68 formed My Own "Garage Band"? To play, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Born To Be Wild! Times Were Changing Quick! Before long, I was taking Orange Sunshine, and listening to The Moody Blues! Next thing I knew, it was Staying Alive, and Luckenbach, Texas! lol wow... It ALL went by SOp fast? The Soundrack of My Life! 🎶⏳
A fine band with Mark Lindsay being one of the top, greatest pop/rock vocalists ever! I would run home from school as fast as I could everyday and turn on channel 7 and watch Where the Action Is from 1965 through 1967 until it went off the air. And then a year later, Happening ‘68. Paul Revere always had a fun band and during their classic period they had the hottest music around. When the classic members left Paul recruited other musicians and continued doing what he always did--performed great concerts for happy fans til his death. He was a great guy for his entire career.
I’ve loved these guys since I was a pre-teen in the sixties. I’m 64 now and I still listen to them. Their music changed over the years, but their ENTIRE catalog is great. They were all about song quality. That’s one reason they survived the British Invasion (along with The Beach Boys).
Saw Paul Revere and the band in 2013 and they put on an amazing show,met all the members after the show and shook Paul’s hand and told him what a great influence he was ,he was so nice and took the time to listen.One of my most cherished memories.
I was lucky to see Paul Revere and the Raiders in Vegas at the Fremont Street exspirence . summer of Love for free. 2009. They were awesome, Paul lives not to far from where I Live .
I was so happy that two of the Raiders’ songs were included in the soundtrack to the Quentin Tarantino’s movie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” starring Leonardo diCaprio and Brad Pitt, who won The Best Supporting Actor Oscar. “Kicks” is still one of my favorite songs.
I used to love these guys on Where the Action Is and had their first 5 albums. They always looked like they were having a blast! I wound up singing Just Like Me in an oldies band in the '80s.
At Levin's funeral, Phil Volk told a story that at a dance club in Seattle, scrawny black kid made his way to the front & was fixated with Levins guitar playing, holding it behind his head while playing, along with several other moves. Afterwards he got to speak with Levin. That scrawny black kit was Jimi Hendrix.
Considering the long, complicated story of Paul Revere and the Raiders, I think this was well done. They were (and always will remain) my favorite band of all time, so I tried to learn everything I could about their history, even though I only started to follow them in 1969. I wish I had been a little older so I could have enjoyed Where the Action Is but thanks to the internet, I get to experience a lot that I had missed. Thanks for posting, and it was a valiant attempt to cover a very complex subject! Paul was really into putting on a show and giving the fans a lot of fun, and Mark Lindsay and all of the rest had varying talents, but I just loved every one so much! What has been a thrill is connecting with so many other life long fans on the internet and sharing our memories. Thanks again.
I mostly listened to heavy metal rock growing up, and still do, but Paul Revere and The Raiders were the very first rock band I saw live, at Kings Island amusement park near Cincinnati, in 1971. My 16 year old aunt and her boyfriend ( now her husband) took me to see them. I was 8 years old then. I still love their music and it was definitely a very different time back then.
I recently re-discovered their music on You Tube, and I think Mark's voice is still just as great as it used to be, I ordered two CD's that is recorded in 2013 and a couple a years later. Life Out Loud and Book of Love. They are really great! I just love reliving all the old days through their music. i'm just sad Mark will not be touring anymore.
i Loved them i was in college when they hit their stride. The Guitar solo in Just like me was over the top. It always blew me away. They are in my top 10 bands. And I saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Yeah they are still No. One
I've seen them several times but actually loved their songs from the mid-60s when I was a teenie-popper. The 60s had the best songs.. & was a Beatlemania.
As a teen-age guitar player in Washington in the 60's, I was stunned by the power of Lindsay's voice. Ex., 'Just Like Me' and 'Crisco Party' at the Richland Roller Rink. I was in the Army in 1966 watching the machine turn his voice soft.. Too bad!
I worked... (and attended on my days off) ...several of their concerts at Walt Disney World, just before he died. What a treat it was to be just a few feet from him! He was still very energetic and hilarious! One of my absolute very favorite bands of all time.
In the late 70s early 80s I was buddies with Valley’s daughter Jamie. When she got married her father sang at her wedding up here around Lynnwood Washington. As a kid my album fave was Indian reservation. I loved every song on that album and do to this day. Thanks for the great video!

Mark and his wife moved to our small town in downeast Maine some years ago and only stayed about two years but had to move because of a couple mentally ill women that were harassing them unmercifully and they were forced into moving in order to find peace. Fame isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
That is sad. What happened that the local police could not have been more effective in getting these nut heads to cease and deseist? I was a big fan in the late 60’s and probably got all or rather mostly all of their albums and one of Mark’s and Freddy Weller’s. Sorry, it’s been so many years and memory not as good as I would like it to be.
I always wondered why Mark and Deb left Maine now I know the reason. That’s awful. I remember reading an article when they first moved there that they wanted to stay the rest of their lives. I’m a New Englander and felt so proud they chose Maine. This truly saddens and angers me.
In the spring of1969 my band appeared twice in the band contest on Happening '69 that was hosted by Paul and Mark. We were just kids, but it was a cool experience. Mark was very friendly to us.

@@henryrogers5500 It was very cool. I had a gold jacket, black flared striped pants, neck scarf, and Beatle-like boots. No medallions or ties. They taped four shows in one day and it took all day. We beat the first band and had to stay until they had two more winners. It was amazing to watch artists with records out that had trouble lip synching their own songs. Unfortunately, we lost in the 4th show. We won some not great stuff, but it was an experience we never forgot. We had to pay our own airfare and most other expenses. They paid for our hotel and only the lunch during the tapings.
Contrary to the narrators utterances, Paul Revere & the Raiders were truly authentic rockers.. Terry Melcher started using studio musicians as the Raiders were always touring & out-of-town, just as was done with the Beach Boys, and many 60's bands that were always on tour.
We saw the RAIDERS live in Modesto California. I waited a lifetime to see these guys. I was so let down. I was hoping to relive those memories of listening to their music while serving in the army in South Korea, 1967 to 1969. RIP.
Even to this Day, the music of the one and only “Paul Revere And The Raiders” is so full of positive energy , and good vibes, you cannot help feeling fantastic, and combined with the great memories of those days, their music is the best medicine that will lift you up and put a smile not only on your face, but in your soul!!!
Back in 1967, while in Grammer school, our young teacher did a survey on the blackboard and wrote down the favorite bands of the young kids in class. The vote was The Beatles, The Raiders, and the Monkees.
born out here in australia in 1949, my favourite paul revere and the raiders songs were kicks and indian reservation. and of course mark lindsay's arizona is an all time classic.
Kicks really had a long run with radio play, here in the USA. Local rock stations were still playing it into the early 90's, maybe into the mid 90's, and not just the oldies stations either. Jimi Hendrix, the Who, and the Stones of course, still get air time. Something about the rock music from the 60's. I have more music from that decade in my collection, than from my youth in the 70's and 80's, and the music from those two decades were good too.
I was lucky to have grown up in the town that Revere operated a local Reed & Bell drive in. It's were all of us kids hung out on weekends cruising in our cars. Went to some of his local dances. Great time for bands and teenagers.
1982 Wilsonville Oregon,the band was playing at the Holiday Inn and when they took a break i walked over and introduced myself to them,they must have liked me as they had me sit with them and share drinks together for the rest of the night.The next weekend they were playing again and saw me and invited me over again and i spent the rest of the night with the band,there wives and girlfriends sharing drinks and having a good time,looking back i was just a young 22 year old guy out having fun with some nice people.
I got to see Mark Lindsay about 12 years ago in Atlanta, with Gary Puckett, and also the Buckinghams . Mark looked GREAT and when he did KICKS, he literally would KICK his legs up almost like Bruce Lee, he was VERY agile and VERY nice! He spent time TALKING to his fans! I think we need MORE fun events like that!
I was THIS close to being a Raider in the late 80’s. Paul would hire local bands for regional legs of his tours to back him (and I think Mark?) and just brought various size costumes with him. Through our guitarist, my band was recruited to do a Midwest leg. I would have LOVED to do it but I had some kind of out of town commitment. I urged my buddies to pick up another drummer and do it but they wouldn’t do it without me. BUMMER!!!
Their late sixties singles may have had less chart success, but the late sixties albums are excellent. The later albums moved away from pop and moved towards heavier, more serious rock and they are classic, very overlooked and under rated albums. Very much worth checking out.
Well I had to leave town because of Uncle Sam's deal. I love this band always will be Hungry then it will be a Good Thing baby because it's Just Like Me to get some Kicks because I Had A Dream and please Don't Take it So Hard. What a band with such great memories of the 60s if I could find a time machine head on back to pick up a new SS 396 and move up a few years and order me a silver Judge the great one from Pontiac GTO. They even had great car commercials for GM.

I saw Paul Revere & The Raiders when I was 15 or 16 in 1966 or 1967 at Texas A&M College in College Station Texas. They were my first ever band to watch live. My mom probably spent a whole $5.00 on my ticket. My mom dropped me off and picked me up after the show. They were pretty loud and they kicked butt. What a show that was!
My uncle, Ron Foos was the Bass player with them from the mid 70's (75?) until Paul died and then with Paul Revere's Raiders. He retired just a few years ago. He told me that the band had a meeting with Paul when he knew he didn't have much time left, and it was Paul that wanted them to continue as Paul Revere's Raiders. He told them that they had the template and they should just continue on after he was gone. My uncle was very good friends with Dough Heath, the Guitarist up till their breaking up. Darren Dowler was their lead singer and sometimes second guitarist for years and years as well. I believe he may have still been with them when Paul passed away. Ron and Doug stayed with us at my parents house in Virginia (Just South of Washington DC) during the 80's when they were in town playing at the Budweiser World of Wheels. Ron is a native of Seattle and is my Dad's younger brother. He previously played in a local Seattle band called City Zu, and played with Randy Bachman's Ironhorse. He grew up at the same time as Ann and Nancy Wilson and has told me that they had jammed together and knew each other. According to him, they used to jam in my grandmother's garage in Seattle just around the corner from Lake Ballinger. Ron was feeling the touring wearing on him at his age and decided to retire relatively recently. He is still working on music in his home studio in Idaho. I spoke to him about 2 and a half weeks ago and he said that he wasn't sure at first if he was going to keep playing, but as he said, music is in my blood. He is a multi-instrumentalist who also plays piano and guitar (and probably other instruments that I may not be aware of) and sings. He is involved in Vietnam veteran's organizations and was very proud of the Raiders project Ride to the Wall.
My favorite band!! I saw them in concert in 1967!! My first concert! What a way to start my music journey. Their music was ahead of it's time. I know all of their songs by heart but my favorite song is Here comes the pain. It is on the alias pink puzz album. It is beautiful ❤️
I saw PR & the Raiders in 1963 at Olympia WA roller rink where Paul's piano was mic'd with the microphone inside the upright piano. Awesome sound. I last saw Paul chatted with him at Tacoma WA Louie Louie festival in 2003. Yes they should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
Probably one of if not the best live shows I've ever seen was the Harpo version of this band. They were great live. The live songs were as good or better than the studio recordings.
Back in the day the Beatles and Paul Revere and the Raiders were my favorite bands back then. Really disappointed that they're not considered for the RRHOF ✌🕉🍏
@@jamesbeshears6717 Well, I have been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it is a great museum, but there will always be questionable inductees as the voting is very subjective. As for the Raiders' they were one of the most popular bands of the 60s and even though they had a lot of personnel changes, for some reason, they are not taken seriously for the Hall of Fame and it is too bad because they had so many great songs.
Indian Reservation was their last song? Huh? It was their biggest hit, but it wasn't the last. Birds of a Feather was a top 20 Cashbox and Record World single in the fall of 1971; Country Wine followed in 1972. The narrative here makes it seem that the band broke up after that; actually, as guys went off to their respective solo careers - Freddy and Smitty in 1973, Mark and Keith in 1975 - Paul replaced them with younger musicians, some who were in the band right up till Paul's passing in 2014. Omar Martinez - drummer, from 1971 to 2006; Doug Heath - guitarist from 1973 to 2021 (the band continued for a few years after Paul's death); Ron Foos - bassist from 1975 until last night, 4/3/22; Danny Krause - keyboards, 1980 until last night; Michael Bradley, lead vocals - 1980-83; Carlo Driggs - lead vocals - 1983-2004; Jamie Revere - Paul's son, guitar - 1991-1997, and 2013-2020; Darren Dowler - lead vocals and guitar, 2008-2019; and Tommy Scheckel - drums, 2010- 2022.
My favorite mid-major bands from this period in terms of good songs are the Troggs, Paul Revere & Raiders, and Tommy James & the Shondells. If you like these bands and know of any more I'm all ears.
This is what I have read about the original five members of the band. Paul died a several years ago and Michael Smith and Drake Levin before that. Mark Lindsay is still performing in smaller venues and Phil Volk is also.
There are several PRR songs that IMO could be released today as is, and just my sell in today's woefully diverse music culture. My choice would be "Steppin Out", "Just Like Me" and "Good Thing". "Good Thing" really shows off the Raider's harmonies and is a very well produced R&R song.
Saw the Original Raiders in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart in 1963. I think it cost 2 or 3 dollars... My 1st Rock Show... I was 13... One of My Fav. Always felt like I knew them as a Kid!
Gotta be in anyones’s top 5 American bands. They hit on that great combination of pure pop and raunch/edginess plus theatricality like few others. It’s ridiculous they are not in Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, (or is it Shame?)
When I was a kid growing up in the 60's, I use to watch Paul Revere and the Raiders on the ABC Network on our local TV channel here in the Central West Coast of California. I must have been around 9, 10 or 11 at that time. (And yes, on Black & White TV).
But (and it is now becoming more apparent as years go on), Paul Revere was the American equivalent of Dave Clark; a businessman first, a musician second. Revere was guilty of some of the same shady activities as Clark, including fictitious co-writing credits, and being replaced (in the studio) by studio musicians.
Sharon Osborne is the worst I have heard of. Band mates of Revere and Clark seemed to hang around for a long time, they must not have felt too screwed.

Thanks to these guys, a ton of beginner guitar players learned how to play in the mid-60's. I was one! Easy chords and simple licks. Some of the first tunes that I learned on my Kingston Electric Guitar in 1966! By 1973, I was playing a 1960 Les Paul Sunburst! Gotta love them!

Made the same mistake in 67' when I got a brand new Fender Mustang for $150.00 and a Fender Super Reverb for I guess $275. 00? Meanwhile, vintage guitars could be had for the same price! As Valérie Čižmárová, for whom I run the Fan Blog 'Bananas For Breakfast', had covered Lancelot Link and The Evolution Revolution's 'Sha-La Love You' in Czechoslovakia as 'Dávno nejsem hloupá' ('I've Not Been Crazy For A Long Time') and the book had a brief feature on the TV show, 'Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp' I ordered Mark Voger's 'Groovy: When Flower Power Bloomed in Pop Culture', which featured several bands that were huge in the States - it is, after all, an American book - but which didn't register much with the British audience and one of those groups was Paul Revere and The Raiders. I must admit that I'd never heard of the teen idol of the group Mark Lindsay before I read 'Groovy...' so it's good to note that Mark is still going strong. I also hadn't heard of Lancelot Link until 'Dávno nejsem hloupá' came along in Cyberspace sometime in late 2015, so very often it is clear that the Atlantic Ocean could be as great a cultural barrier as the Iron Curtain was and maybe, in some instances, yet greater.
My Dad was a bit of a wild child when he was a young man in the 60's and he loved the zany Paul Revere and the Raiders. When I was a kid in the early 90's my parents moved the fam to Reno NV to open a new operations center for their employer. Paul Revere had a club there at the time called "Kicks" (what else would it be called?) and they went there VERY often and had a blast every time. My Dad met his hero on a few occasions and said he was very gracious dude. I remember the place had a mustang front clip protruding out of the face of the building over the entrance door. Nowadays you see that everywhere but back then it was rather unique.
Before they became famous they played in smaller venues in small towns. They came to my hometown of Aberdeen and Hoquiam Washington way back when and put on great shows. I saw them several times over the years, but without Mark, it just wasn't the same. I believe their last radio song was "Love Music" just after Indian Reservation and it was a great song.....one of my favorites, actually.
I moved to Reno Nevada in 1990. Paul Revere lived there and had a dance place called "Paul Revere's Kicks".....it was pretty good, but eventually the venue was torn down for re-development....
In the early 80's, K-Tell released an album called " The Great Raider Reunion ". It had re-recordings of all their hit's along with a few of Mark Linsay's solo hits. It sounded fantastic !!!
I don't to this day know why they did that. I have it, but it's inferior in every way to the original recordings. No offense, but I can't agree it was fantastic. And I always was a huge fan.
Terry Melcher was the only son of Doris Day. He was friends with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and he introduced Melcher to Charles Manson, who was interested in recording some music....
Very good documentary. I met Paul Revere in the late 90's when in WI doing show. Super nice guy and fun to talk with. I had him sign the white pick guard of my white Vox Phantom Bass (just like the on Phil "Fang" Volk had played)
I watched them every day…they were the house band on “Where the Action Is.” I never missed it. Then they said they were going to cancel it so my brother and I wrote a letter to keep it on the air. But I was six and he was 13. They didn’t care.
I highly recommend "Collage", "Indian Reservation", and, "Country Wine", for full album listening. Great musicianship from all members, with Lindsay's voice never sounding better. A gallant effort to establish themselves as a legit band, but no commercial success to back it up. They're still RRHOF worthy imo. But I don't put much stock in that organization, anymore.
Their first album with the "original" lineup was titled "Here They Come" Side one was a live recording and they were definitely a party band. Mark Lindsay surprisingly was one hell of a saxophone player, Especially on the tune, 🎶 You Can't Sit Down🎶.

Thanks for posting, and it was a valiant attempt to cover a very complex subject! Paul was really into putting on a show and giving the fans a lot of fun, and Mark Lindsay and all of the rest had varying talents, but I just loved every one so much! What has been a thrill is connecting with so many other life long fans on the internet and sharing our memories. Thanks again.

I mostly listened to heavy metal rock growing up, and still do, but Paul Revere and The Raiders were the very first rock band I saw live, at Kings Island amusement park near Cincinnati, in 1971. My 16 year old aunt and her boyfriend ( now her husband) took me to see them. I was 8 years old then.
I still love their music and it was definitely a very different time back then.

Paul Revere and the Raiders was the very first concert I ever saw when I was in the 5th grade in Tulsa,OK. Jimi Hendrix was my 2nd show.
I recently re-discovered their music on You Tube, and I think Mark's voice is still just as great as it used to be, I ordered two CD's that is recorded in 2013 and a couple a years later. Life Out Loud and Book of Love. They are really great! I just love reliving all the old days through their music. i'm just sad Mark will not be touring anymore.

i Loved them i was in college when they hit their stride. The Guitar solo in Just like me was over the top. It always blew me away. They are in my top 10 bands. And I saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Yeah they are still No. One
I've seen them several times but actually loved their songs from the mid-60s when I was a teenie-popper. The 60s had the best songs.. & was a Beatlemania.
Growing up, these guys were my favorites 💙. I had to run out and get each new album as it was released. Mark Lindsey was my favorite member ❤.
The first concert I ever went to, my dad took me. 1967 Municipal Auditorium, Atlanta Georgia. I still listen to their music, GREAT MEMORIES!
As a teen-age guitar player in Washington in the 60's, I was stunned by the power of Lindsay's voice. Ex., 'Just Like Me' and 'Crisco Party' at the Richland Roller Rink. I was in the Army in 1966 watching the machine turn his voice soft.. Too bad!
I worked... (and attended on my days off) ...several of their concerts at Walt Disney World, just before he died. What a treat it was to be just a few feet from him! He was still very energetic and hilarious! One of my absolute very favorite bands of all time.
I got to meet Mark at an oldies show in Hamilton Ohio. He signed a couple of my albums. Very friendly man!
In the late 70s early 80s I was buddies with Valley’s daughter Jamie. When she got married her father sang at her wedding up here around Lynnwood Washington. As a kid my album fave was Indian reservation. I loved every song on that album and do to this day. Thanks for the great video!

Mark and his wife moved to our small town in downeast Maine some years ago and only stayed about two years but had to move because of a couple mentally ill women that were harassing them unmercifully and they were forced into moving in order to find peace. Fame isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
That is sad. What happened that the local police could not have been more effective in getting these nut heads to cease and deseist? I was a big fan in the late 60’s and probably got all or rather mostly all of their albums and one of Mark’s and Freddy Weller’s. Sorry, it’s been so many years and memory not as good as I would like it to be.
Small towns have really limited resources and aren't equipped to effectively or regularly deal with untreated nutjobs.
I always wondered why Mark and Deb left Maine now I know the reason. That’s awful. I remember reading an article when they first moved there that they wanted to stay the rest of their lives. I’m a New Englander and felt so proud they chose Maine. This truly saddens and angers me.

As a teeny bopper, I loved The Raiders. I had a huge crush on Mark Lindsey, and to this day, still love the Raiders. Thank-you for this.
In the spring of1969 my band appeared twice in the band contest on Happening '69 that was hosted by Paul and Mark. We were just kids, but it was a cool experience. Mark was very friendly to us.
I may have seen video of your band playing on that TV show. How outta sight for you!

I remember that contest. The two names I remember are Gripping Force and Zarathustra.
@@henryrogers5500 It was very cool. I had a gold jacket, black flared striped pants, neck scarf, and Beatle-like boots. No medallions or ties. They taped four shows in one day and it took all day. We beat the first band and had to stay until they had two more winners. It was amazing to watch artists with records out that had trouble lip synching their own songs. Unfortunately, we lost in the 4th show. We won some not great stuff, but it was an experience we never forgot. We had to pay our own airfare and most other expenses. They paid for our hotel and only the lunch during the tapings.
Contrary to the narrators utterances, Paul Revere & the Raiders were truly authentic rockers.. Terry Melcher started using studio musicians as the Raiders were always touring & out-of-town, just as was done with the Beach Boys, and many 60's bands that were always on tour.

We saw the RAIDERS live in Modesto California. I waited a lifetime to see these guys. I was so let down. I was hoping to relive those memories of listening to their music while serving in the army in South Korea, 1967 to 1969. RIP.

Back in 1967, while in Grammer school, our young teacher did a survey on the blackboard and wrote down the favorite bands of the young kids in class.
The vote was The Beatles, The Raiders, and the Monkees.
All 3 bands are great in different ways. Paul Revere and the Raiders are the best forgotten 60’s band.

were kicks and indian reservation. and of course mark lindsay's arizona is an all time classic.
Kicks really had a long run with radio play, here in the USA. Local rock stations were still playing it into the early 90's, maybe into the mid 90's, and not just the oldies stations either.
Jimi Hendrix, the Who, and the Stones of course, still get air time.
Something about the rock music from the 60's. I have more music from that decade in my collection, than from my youth in the 70's and 80's, and the music from those two decades were good too.
My husband's cousin was their professional photographer and traveled with them back in their hey day.
I've seen Mark Lindsay perform a few times. He's still got it!

I was lucky to have grown up in the town that Revere operated a local Reed & Bell drive in. It's were all of us kids hung out on weekends cruising in our cars. Went to some of his local dances. Great time for bands and teenagers.
1982 Wilsonville Oregon,the band was playing at the Holiday Inn and when they took a break i walked over and introduced myself to them,they must have liked me as they had me sit with them and share drinks together for the rest of the night.The next weekend they were playing again and saw me and invited me over again and i spent the rest of the night with the band,there wives and girlfriends sharing drinks and having a good time,looking back i was just a young 22 year old guy out having fun with some nice people.
That sounds like a great memory for a lifetime! It must have been fun to hang out with them!

I got to see Mark Lindsay about 12 years ago in Atlanta, with Gary Puckett, and also the Buckinghams
. Mark looked GREAT and when he did KICKS, he literally would KICK his legs up
almost like Bruce Lee, he was VERY agile and VERY nice! He spent time TALKING to his fans! I think we need MORE fun events like that!

I was THIS close to being a Raider in the late 80’s. Paul would hire local bands for regional legs of his tours to back him (and I think Mark?) and just brought various size costumes with him. Through our guitarist, my band was recruited to do a Midwest leg. I would have LOVED to do it but I had some kind of out of town commitment. I urged my buddies to pick up another drummer and do it but they wouldn’t do it without me. BUMMER!!!
Their late sixties singles may have had less chart success, but the late sixties albums are excellent. The later albums moved away from pop and moved towards heavier, more serious rock and they are classic, very overlooked and under rated albums. Very much worth checking out.
Well I had to leave town because of Uncle Sam's deal. I love this band always will be Hungry then it will be a Good Thing baby because it's Just Like Me to get some Kicks because I Had A Dream and please Don't Take it So Hard. What a band with such great memories of the 60s if I could find a time machine head on back to pick up a new SS 396 and move up a few years and order me a silver Judge the great one from Pontiac GTO. They even had great car commercials for GM.

I saw Paul Revere & The Raiders when I was 15 or 16 in 1966 or 1967 at Texas A&M College in College Station Texas. They were my first ever band to watch live. My mom probably spent a whole $5.00 on my ticket. My mom dropped me off and picked me up after the show. They were pretty loud and they kicked butt. What a show that was!
My uncle, Ron Foos was the Bass player with them from the mid 70's (75?) until Paul died and then with Paul Revere's Raiders. He retired just a few years ago. He told me that the band had a meeting with Paul when he knew he didn't have much time left, and it was Paul that wanted them to continue as Paul Revere's Raiders. He told them that they had the template and they should just continue on after he was gone. My uncle was very good friends with Dough Heath, the Guitarist up till their breaking up. Darren Dowler was their lead singer and sometimes second guitarist for years and years as well. I believe he may have still been with them when Paul passed away. Ron and Doug stayed with us at my parents house in Virginia (Just South of Washington DC) during the 80's when they were in town playing at the Budweiser World of Wheels. Ron is a native of Seattle and is my Dad's younger brother. He previously played in a local Seattle band called City Zu, and played with Randy Bachman's Ironhorse. He grew up at the same time as Ann and Nancy Wilson and has told me that they had jammed together and knew each other. According to him, they used to jam in my grandmother's garage in Seattle just around the corner from Lake Ballinger. Ron was feeling the touring wearing on him at his age and decided to retire relatively recently. He is still working on music in his home studio in Idaho. I spoke to him about 2 and a half weeks ago and he said that he wasn't sure at first if he was going to keep playing, but as he said, music is in my blood. He is a multi-instrumentalist who also plays piano and guitar (and probably other instruments that I may not be aware of) and sings. He is involved in Vietnam veteran's organizations and was very proud of the Raiders project Ride to the Wall.
My favorite band!! I saw them in concert in 1967!! My first concert! What a way to start my music journey. Their music was ahead of it's time. I know all of their songs by heart but my favorite song is Here comes the pain. It is on the alias pink puzz album. It is beautiful ❤️

I saw PR & the Raiders in 1963 at Olympia WA roller rink where Paul's piano was mic'd with the microphone inside the upright piano. Awesome sound. I last saw Paul chatted with him at Tacoma WA Louie Louie festival in 2003. Yes they should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
Probably one of if not the best live shows I've ever seen was the Harpo version of this band. They were great live. The live songs were as good or better than the studio recordings.

@@jamesbeshears6717 Well, I have been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it is a great museum, but there will always be questionable inductees as the voting is very subjective. As for the Raiders' they were one of the most popular bands of the 60s and even though they had a lot of personnel changes, for some reason, they are not taken seriously for the Hall of Fame and it is too bad because they had so many great songs.

Indian Reservation was their last song? Huh? It was their biggest hit, but it wasn't the last. Birds of a Feather was a top 20 Cashbox and Record World single in the fall of 1971; Country Wine followed in 1972. The narrative here makes it seem that the band broke up after that; actually, as guys went off to their respective solo careers - Freddy and Smitty in 1973, Mark and Keith in 1975 - Paul replaced them with younger musicians, some who were in the band right up till Paul's passing in 2014. Omar Martinez - drummer, from 1971 to 2006; Doug Heath - guitarist from 1973 to 2021 (the band continued for a few years after Paul's death); Ron Foos - bassist from 1975 until last night, 4/3/22; Danny Krause - keyboards, 1980 until last night; Michael Bradley, lead vocals - 1980-83; Carlo Driggs - lead vocals - 1983-2004; Jamie Revere - Paul's son, guitar - 1991-1997, and 2013-2020; Darren Dowler - lead vocals and guitar, 2008-2019; and Tommy Scheckel - drums, 2010- 2022.
You forgot to include The son of Bill Medley from the Righteous Brothers. He was the lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders in the early 2000's

My favorite mid-major bands from this period in terms of good songs are the Troggs, Paul Revere & Raiders, and Tommy James & the Shondells. If you like these bands and know of any more I'm all ears.
This is what I have read about the original five members of the band. Paul died a several years ago and Michael Smith and Drake Levin before that. Mark Lindsay is still performing in smaller venues and Phil Volk is also.
There are several PRR songs that IMO could be released today as is, and just my sell in today's woefully diverse music culture. My choice would be "Steppin Out", "Just Like Me" and "Good Thing". "Good Thing" really shows off the Raider's harmonies and is a very well produced R&R song.
I saw them years ago at the Columbia County Fair in Chatham NY....an absolutely wonderful show.
Saw the Original Raiders in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart in 1963. I think it cost 2 or 3 dollars... My 1st Rock Show... I was 13... One of My Fav. Always felt like I knew them as a Kid!
Gotta be in anyones’s top 5 American bands. They hit on that great combination of pure pop and raunch/edginess plus theatricality like few others. It’s ridiculous they are not in Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, (or is it Shame?)

When I was a kid growing up in the 60's, I use to watch Paul Revere and the Raiders on the ABC Network on our local TV channel here in the Central West Coast of California. I must have been around 9, 10 or 11 at that time. (And yes, on Black & White TV).
But (and it is now becoming more apparent as years go on), Paul Revere was the American equivalent of Dave Clark; a businessman first, a musician second. Revere was guilty of some of the same shady activities as Clark, including fictitious co-writing credits, and being replaced (in the studio) by studio musicians.
Sharon Osborne is the worst I have heard of. Band mates of Revere and Clark seemed to hang around for a long time, they must not have felt too screwed.

Thanks to these guys, a ton of beginner guitar players learned how to play in the mid-60's. I was one! Easy chords and simple licks. Some of the first tunes that I learned on my Kingston Electric Guitar in 1966! By 1973, I was playing a 1960 Les Paul Sunburst! Gotta love them!

Made the same mistake in 67' when I got a brand new Fender Mustang for $150.00 and a Fender Super Reverb for I guess $275. 00? Meanwhile, vintage guitars could be had for the same price! Lived and learned!
As Valérie Čižmárová, for whom I run the Fan Blog 'Bananas For Breakfast', had covered Lancelot Link and The Evolution Revolution's 'Sha-La Love You' in Czechoslovakia as 'Dávno nejsem hloupá' ('I've Not Been Crazy For A Long Time') and the book had a brief feature on the TV show, 'Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp' I ordered Mark Voger's 'Groovy: When Flower Power Bloomed in Pop Culture', which featured several bands that were huge in the States - it is, after all, an American book - but which didn't register much with the British audience and one of those groups was Paul Revere and The Raiders. I must admit that I'd never heard of the teen idol of the group Mark Lindsay before I read 'Groovy...' so it's good to note that Mark is still going strong. I also hadn't heard of Lancelot Link until 'Dávno nejsem hloupá' came along in Cyberspace sometime in late 2015, so very often it is clear that the Atlantic Ocean could be as great a cultural barrier as the Iron Curtain was and maybe, in some instances, yet greater.

My Dad was a bit of a wild child when he was a young man in the 60's and he loved the zany Paul Revere and the Raiders. When I was a kid in the early 90's my parents moved the fam to Reno NV to open a new operations center for their employer. Paul Revere had a club there at the time called "Kicks" (what else would it be called?) and they went there VERY often and had a blast every time. My Dad met his hero on a few occasions and said he was very gracious dude. I remember the place had a mustang front clip protruding out of the face of the building over the entrance door. Nowadays you see that everywhere but back then it was rather unique.

Before they became famous they played in smaller venues in small towns. They came to my hometown of Aberdeen and Hoquiam Washington way back when and put on great shows. I saw them several times over the years, but without Mark, it just wasn't the same. I believe their last radio song was "Love Music" just after Indian Reservation and it was a great song.....one of my favorites, actually.
I moved to Reno Nevada in 1990. Paul Revere lived there and had a dance place called "Paul Revere's Kicks".....it was pretty good, but eventually the venue was torn down for re-development....
In the early 80's, K-Tell released an album called " The Great Raider Reunion ". It had re-recordings of all their hit's along with a few of Mark Linsay's solo hits. It sounded fantastic !!!
I don't to this day know why they did that. I have it, but it's inferior in every way to the original recordings. No offense, but I can't agree it was fantastic. And I always was a huge fan.

Terry Melcher was the only son of Doris Day. He was friends with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and he introduced Melcher to Charles Manson, who was interested in recording some music....

Very good documentary. I met Paul Revere in the late 90's when in WI doing show. Super nice guy and fun to talk with. I had him sign the white pick guard of my white Vox Phantom Bass (just like the on Phil "Fang" Volk had played)
I watched Where the Action Is. They were good musicians and had fun performing. Great combination. They even had a good Christmas album.

I watched them every day…they were the house band on “Where the Action Is.” I never missed it. Then they said they were going to cancel it so my brother and I wrote a letter to keep it on the air. But I was six and he was 13. They didn’t care.
I was throughly impressed with the Raiders coach. A truly beautiful high performance vehicle.
I highly recommend "Collage", "Indian Reservation", and, "Country Wine", for full album listening. Great musicianship from all members, with Lindsay's voice never sounding better. A gallant effort to establish themselves as a legit band, but no commercial success to back it up. They're still RRHOF worthy imo. But I don't put much stock in that organization, anymore.
