Joe Gibbs last playoff win in his first stint as Redskins coach. Vikings took the opening kickoff and drove for a TD 5 minutes in. The Redskins owned the rest ( an astounding 43 of the last 55 minutes of ball control)of the contest winning 24-7.
This game and this season may have been Gibbs finest coaching performance. This team was ravaged with injuries yet they were one game from the NFC title. Should have beaten the 49ers but that's another story lol
I respect Gibbs decision to retire but speaking for Redskins fans I am certain this team would have continued to win and eventually built at least one more supper bowl
Darrin Nelson returned the opening kickoff. The same Nelson as in the 1988 NFC Championship Game: "Nelson! Through his hands and the Redskins will go to the Super Bowl!"
It's surreal to watch a functioning, successful, revered Washington Redskins organization as recently as January of 1993. This Dan Snyder nightmare just won't end.

I am no big Washington fan as a Cowboys fan, but let’s face it, Gary Clark belongs in the HOF and Ricky Sanders should get at least some serious consideration.
It was a miracle that they even played this well in this game. They had lost two in a row and were dead on offense. They were able to pull it together and win this game. The next week the mistakes on offense that they did all season came back to bite them. They should have beaten the 49ers, but they didn't. Couldn't take advantage of the turnovers especially by Steve Young. The Cowboys were able to cash in on the turnovers the next week. Other than Norv Turner in 1999, no Washington head coach other than Joe Gibbs and George Allen has won a playoff game as the Redskin head coach.

To this day I don't understand why the Vikings never turned to Rich Gannon in this game. Gannon had been the starter for most of the season, but a December slump got him benched and Dennis Green turned to Sean Salisbury. Salisbury played horribly in this game and the fact that they didn't go back to Gannon cost them dearly!
I’ll say it again. Blaming Earnest Byner for the loss in the 1987 Championship game represented nothing short of silly whining. I challenge anyone holding the fee he cost them the game to explain how we should ignore the 3-21 hole they dug for themselves in the first half or why we should ignore that he made several big plays that got them back into the game anyway.
