    Hello! I’m so happy I found this video, it was the only one that shown how to deeseble and reeseble this cutterbar. I have to change a barring for the big gears and now I think I know how, thank you very much!
    Special thanks from Johan all the way from Sweden 🇸🇪

    I hope you and your son count your blessings every day for the relationship you have as father and son. Your videos give us hope for the way life should be. The fact also that your parents are alive also to enjoy what they have helped to create on the farm. Thank you for sharing your days with all of us.

    After a year of replacing knives and shear hubs on my jd 930 discbine,i set the float at about 40 lbs and angled the cutterbar back a touch and then cut all my hay at 10mph.After the fields were chopped off ,I went with a 4 wheeler pulling a cart and pick all those stones.They were easy to see because there would be tall grass around the stone because the discbine would jump over it.Now I only have to do this on new seeding acres every year. I haven't blown a shear hub in years and I even get to reverse the knives!

    • @davidrowley8251
      @davidrowley8251 7 років тому

      Otto Seeger ditto on the stone picking and getting the cutterbar attack angle level or tipped up. How did you measure the 40 pounds of pressure/weight?

    • @autocat9371
      @autocat9371 7 років тому

      Shorten the turnbuckle or hydraulic cylinder in the middle on top of the deck.Just grap the front side on one end with one hand and lift-we have 50 lbs ih weights and i just compare lifting the header to that weight- just make the head light to lift so the head bounces over the stones and heavy enough so it stays on the ground to cut your hay and after you pick the rocks loosen yr springs back to specs

    Weather not cooperating is a huge pain in the ass in the hay business. We have had good haying weather in northeast Nebraska and we should be wrapped up with first cutting today! Soonest we've ever been done with the 1350 acres of alfalfa we put up. Hoping to get 3 more cuttings so bring on the rain.

  • @mataiterapreha

    Awesome video as usual. I hope the weather plays the game for your hay season, we had about 2 weeks worth of hot sunny weather the rest of the season was rain either once or twice a week or every other day, suffice to say alot of hay we did got wrapped in plastic.

    Wes before you go to the trouble of tearing that drive box apart check the machine surfaces for level/true with a machinists's straight edge. You might be able to perform your repair with a flat mill files and bench stones. FWIW I've got some straight edges you can use .

    They are "X-Boxers". I always run my disk toward each other. Outside turn toward center of cutter bar and next disk turn into those disk or opposite direction of the outer disk and continue this pattern toward center with one odd ball. This keeps the disk from moving the crop toward the center before in goes over rollers or tether which you have.

    Working with any parts and service department, it really is all in the attitude. You go in with a bad attitude, you'll likely get a bad attitude back. In might not be a "bad" attitude, but you'll likely get a "polite" attitude and nothing more. So swallow your ego and go in with the attitude of "I'm having a problem with this and I need your help." People like to feel like they're helping a fellow human being and not being talked down to...

    I didn't know those cutterbars were in segments. I had a Kuhn 3 point disc mower and the cutter bar cracked on it and lots in this area did. The Kuhn company does not have anything I want now. I have a NH now that is segmented but not fluid filled. If buying again now I would buy a Krone.

    Union Farm Equipment and Greenway Sales are the two companies I recommend for treating you like a valued customer.
    I am curious. Do you bother to put a couple of tablespoons (quantity) of moto-honey into the gear box to help lubricate those gears?

  • @johnnyholland8765
    @johnnyholland8765 7 років тому

    Tim..... I noticed the drum spinning behind the cutter bar. What does this function do? Is it to help "crimp" the hay to help in drying? Also how often do you blow the machine off. Noticed a lot of crap behind the side shield.

    • @TheGhostOfLuciasClay
      @TheGhostOfLuciasClay 7 років тому

      Johnny Holland instead of crimping rolls that is called a flail conditioner and it basically scuffs the hay breaking the waxy coating on the hay. works good in grass type hays but clovers and alfalfas it tends to break the leaves off if you run it to aggressively

      his problem wasn't the tractor it was the PTO shaft on the baler it got bent at some point ,,a bent PTO shaft will destroy stuff in a hurry

  • @jbmbanter
    @jbmbanter 7 років тому

    Somebody teach me please. I noticed that when Wes removed the part that the oil seemed thin. Is it hydraulic oil and is the bar self contained or does the hydraulic oil circulate through the tractor system? I would have thought that the 'turtles' had gear oil in them.

    • @TheGhostOfLuciasClay
      @TheGhostOfLuciasClay 7 років тому

      jbmbanter I'm not sure what oil it uses I would think a gear oil but like my skid steer in the final drive it uses 10w30 so whatever JD recommends but I do know that the cutter bar is an enclosed self contained system.
      on my NH discbind each module is self contained and uses heavier gear oil the benefit of this is if a gear breaks its contained to one section and not able to float around to cause catastrophic damage throughout the entire bar

    • @jbmbanter
      @jbmbanter 7 років тому

      Thanks, I think I've seen Wes put oil into the individual turtles. Maybe is was on one of his other mowers.

    • @TheGhostOfLuciasClay
      @TheGhostOfLuciasClay 7 років тому

      jbmbanter the NH head on the IH mower is that way each module separate

    • @davidrowley8251
      @davidrowley8251 7 років тому

      jbmbanter The cutterbar has a common self-contained sump, shared by all sections. We run 75W140 gear lube in our 835. It has 7 sections and holds about 8.5 quarts, there is a drain plug one end of the bar, set the other end of the cutterbar on a block to get more complete draining, after running for a short time, to get any contaminants suspended in the oil.

    • @jbmbanter
      @jbmbanter 7 років тому

      So, do the seperate modules use gear oil or some other lighter oil. Thanks for the info.
