Bolts are completely different. 8.8 is 800 N/mm^2 strength and it uses a 0.8 strength factor so it’s useful strength is 640N/mm^2. The 10.9 is 1,000 N/mm*2 strength multiplier 0.9 so useful strength 900N/mm^2. Etc. Also metric bolts use a cut thread vs a rolled thread like SAE and Structural bolts, thus the metric bolts tend to have fatigue issues.
Farming in the uk has gone to shit too, decent staff are paid the same as someone flipping burgers in McDonald’s, multiple farms going under, give it 10 years and our dairy industry will be non existent. Yet those in charge will soon get upset if there’s no food
I retired 2 years ago and live on passive income only. No SSI for a few more years. Got few bills: insurance of all types, taxes, fuel, food, etc. Last purchase was 15 pounds of cat food and 100 pounds of cat litter.$97.00. The cats eat better than me. And I do love America.
It’s kinda like a ship that’s sinking from being hit in the side by a torpedo. It starts heeling over so you counterflood the other side. Problem is now the ship is lower in the water and has less buoyancy. Take another torpedo and the same happens again. Problem is you can only do that so much till the ship sinks. Gather your safety gear folks. We’re about to be swimming here soon.
I made a spaghetti sauce two days ago with one jar of sauce, one can of diced tomatoes, one pound of browned ground chuck, a diced onion sautéed with the ground chuck, and an 8 ounce container of fresh button mushrooms cut in half. It turned out wonderfully. I did add oregano while it simmered. That was the best spaghetti I’ve made in a long time. Volume of sauce was perfect for a one pound package of spaghetti noodles. I love my country and my mushrooms. 😋
When you tighten a bolt, there is a difference between a ''wet'' bolt (loctite, grease, etc.) and a ''dry'' bolt. A ''wet'' bolt has a lower torque than a ''dry'' bolt, it ''glides'' more easily.
I'm a GM master tech and the problem is, we get sent inferior bolts and nuts in the US. We have the same problem of snapping the fuckers in half or them backing off. I had to drill and tap 6 brand new head bolts last week. We are fed up with it too. It isn't just agriculture.
Working with a forklift with a low tire on a side hill, I was nearly decapitated just being there. My crazy overzealous boss was driving with the lift at maximum height, wielding a large component of some piece of heavy equipment in his yard. He then bailed off the wrong side, nearly being sliced in half by the headache rack of his overturning machine. A tractor that overturns is dangerous but,..... forklifts are even more so.
❤🇺🇸🇺🇸♥️ You easily mow in a week what I mow in a year but that was the first shaft that I actually broke since I bought the mower new in 2007. I've stripped the splines on 2 others though and have replaced 2 top caps. Both caps were in the same year and the dealer suggested adjusting the springs because the head wasn't floating enough and haven't had an issue since. I don't have shock hubs either. I don't think they were a thing back then but can be updated. I'm afraid that things are going to have to get a lot tougher to get people's heads out of their asses before it gets better in this country.
I work on mostly turf stuff from Deere. I do love that most of their nuts and bolts are flanged. I just wish we could go to one system or the other. Having to have tools and hardware stock for both is expensive.
Im in greenhouse and vegetables and it’s interesting right now with how people are spending their money. We’re doing ok but it’s just shitty. I’m long on America but we can’t take this much longer without something happening.
The economy definitely isn't as good as some as many thinks right now! I work in the machining industry and it has dropped big time lately! We are so screwed if Harris wins whether its a farmer, machinist or any blue collar worker!
I always watched from beginning to end Wes. When looking at crop prices, don’t forget to look at what countries are the largest importers. For several years, China has been hoarding grains at huge volumes. Supposedly in case of a wartime embargo.
Wes, the thing that many fail to understand, both Imperial and Metric have their uses. I'm always anal about using torque settings, like you said though, there's really no right or wrong way. You go by size however, "blue lock-tite" is always your best friend that and serrated nuts & bolts. Wes, I've always said this about farmers, we need to be diversified and stop growing only certain crops. In my area, all I see any more is, corn, beans. Wheat has dropped, same with sorghum and sunflowers. Used to be, Wheat, barley, beans, corn, sunflower and sorghum was grown all over my state now, today... not so much. I've seen many complain about the grain prices of late yet, continue to grow the same crops over an over. We're falling into a depression and honestly, it needs to happen to hopefully open some eyes. Say what you will about Trump, for farmers, he really did help, same with our economy overall. Made living far easier to survive compared to today. Cheers :)
👍👍 I've thought about that tedder of yours. I never had those problems but that is because I don't run that much hay through. So yeah, it is understandable that your tedder breaks. The problem you're encountering with the bolts on the mower is that Kuhn builds John Deere equipment. On my Kuhn mower it's the same thing. The only reason I can come up with is that the strength of the said bolts is different and you less likely to mix em up. I love America in the comments
I love America but fear my guberment. Since a large part of my income is from the horse hay market, I've been getting nervous about maintaining a decent price because owning horses is Discretionary spending. Same thing with asking my beef customer to cough up $1000 for a quarter of beef. By the time they pay for processing it's expensive.
I love America. It’ll be a lot better if we could get Trump back in office at least we had money in our pocket. There’s so many people out there. Thanks Kamala Harris is the grand thing that walked G give me a break.
Hello Wes may as well get use to it which you are. Ive not experienced things coming loose as you say but thats the way it is. Things are geared to keep us at bay cant have to many wealthy people. Keep the world working thats what is important. Yes i watched to the end i love North America though. Have a great day.
this year i lost so much money between weather and breakdowns i decided fuck it bush hogged all the crops off and decided to just take the year off get all the equipment fixed up lime and manure the fuck out of the ground because it needs it and cut my losses wait for 2025 if next year sucks as much then maybe its time to find something else to do im a decent mechanic so maybe go into vintage farm equipment repair when you plant 500 tomato plants and 1000 pepper plants and 400 watermelon plants and they all do absolutly nothing its super disheartening
One thing you can include in this matrix is how the State Department influences the price of cereals as it uses crops to politically influence different governments not to mention the world economy. Why do you think the third world countries such as Brazil are working so hard to overtake us in crop production?
I saw a gallon of milk in the store for $10.47 last night. I had to do a double take. It was name brand and the generic was $4.26 a gallon. Last time I saw that name brand price go up, the generic went up a couple weeks later. I don't think we can survive another 4 years of this democrat regime on our economy.
Metric is good system. Temperature in C is way better the F. Can’t take away 2x4 2x6 for buying wood They cut up all of the land in miles. So can’t change that. I agree with you for wrenching. Imperial is better than metric. Nh pretty much can take a 9/16 & 3/4” to take apart the whole Machine. Not so much my jd stuff
I’m from the uk and hate metric, feet n inches every time. I used to work on roofs all the time and all mistakes cutting rafters are made when using metric. All breeze block, bricks etc are made in feet n inches because it works well.
I love America, But I am not happy with what it has become. These days the politicians have their nose in everyone's business and their hand in everyone's pocket. Our individual freedoms are going away at an ever increasing rate and there is nothing to look forward to. The American Dream is GONE !
Hey Wes, I Love America and hate our leadership. hope you are doing well. wish we could have a talk again but i know your busy all the time. Have a good weekend.
The markets for farmers would be better if the federal government was not involved, they are the reason the prices are down they manipulate the markets
Metic is difficult to see the size you are always grabbing three sockets instead of one because you often grab the wrong one. It would be nice to be finished with standard even though I like it so you would only have to buy metric sockets and wrenches. Also the reason we went to metric is because of the pencil pushers because metric fasteners can be sized closer to strength tolerance therefor saving steel and cost to the manufacturer. Thanks for the video
Great video 👍 we definitely need Trump back in charge! And if you don't mind, where do you get your hat's? I'm looking for a change from the standard ball caps.
If you get out of farming maybe you should think about getting into politics you know about what is going on in this country than most of the politicians in this country
Hmm, can't say I've heard an argument between metric and Imperial due to fractions, always thought it was purely down to being 10-base over 12-base, simply, well, simpler, easier (lazier) to calculate, falling in line with the dumbing-down of the populous. Saying that, being amongst the last of the gen-X'ers, I was brought up with metric in school, but remember doing a whole lot of fractional stuff at the same time. I was brought up with imperial at home, and to this day use a mixture of the whole darn lot every day. Meh.
I love America. Thanks for the video.
Keep preachin'!
I love America!
Thanks Wes, your videos are are always welcome and I look forward to them.

Metric bolts are rolled too.
In mass production it is cheaper to roll the thread in stead of cutting.
I love America brother. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, Wes. I always enjoy listening to your various rants, raves and information.

I think some of the newer ford lug nuts are a 19.5mm
The “hardness” code is not that, it’s the strength code, 8.8 means 80% of 800 N per mm2
10.9 means 90% of a 1000 N/mm2

Fractions are easy as hell. 2 1/16 =1/8 2 1/8=1/4 2 1/4= 1/2 easy. Metric does suck.
1mm = 1/1000(th) of a meter.
I love America. Gov. Mostly sucks!
The Metric System sucks, this country has never been prepared for it anyway
It all depends when you went to school and what you learned metric or imperial. Old farts like me do have a bit of a problem with the whole thing.
