hi allen , iv been using this kit for over 10 years and never had a problem at all, the velcro jackets have changed slightly ,as you had to tie the strings ,otherwise just the same, iv used on plastic, copper ,and lead to change a main stop tap, just takes a little practice and nerve, but i have every confidence .good demo.
Used the 1 can kit yesterday to freeze a 15mm cold water main after the existing stopcock wouldn't budge. Yep it worked great, but when it unfroze the bloody pipe had cracked and sprayed out all over. I had to slice the pipe quickly and shoved on a pushfit stopcock. So 17 quid wasted and a wet kitchen. Far as I am aware I followed the instructions to the t.
A pipe freeze machine is 100% worth the cost. Just from a business risk perspective It saves you having to drain down a whole system that can cause problems to refill.
Great vid, people beware of using freeze kits on old copper tube, it becomes thin after time and a good chance it will split where you have put the freezer, ive done it myself, never again, hope this helps
I will definitely use it again. I have a TRV to change next week that’s leaking on a big system, I think I will use this kit so I do not need to drain it down.
Great video. Just curious how long the can will last (I know it depends on how much you use it); however, in general terms, how many pipes can you freeze on 1 can)?
I have a Rothenberger Rofrost. Used it a good few times. The great thing about it is that the formed ice plug stays as long as you need. I will never again try it on a hot central heating rad pipes. 1st radiator change I got lucky (most probably becuse it was one of the furthest rads). The second rad brown sludge splattered out of the customers pipes. It's highly possible that sludge was later on found it's way into my pants. At least that's what I told my wife anyway 🤫. Lesson learn't, never try to freeze hot or fairly warm pipes to save yourself time. Either explain to the customer not to use the heating prior to your arrival or wait for the central heating temp to decrease. I had to clean up, paint the wall and clean the customers carpet, costly mistake 😭. Brilliant Al 👨🔧🤘.
Used them before. Well worth having. Not a goto item but sometimes there’s always that job that needs it. Also, been on jobs where someone has used the rothy and suddenly a perfect icicle has shot out of the pipework. Honestly couldn’t fault the Arctic kit. Think they do a specific kit for plumbers to.
I’ve used the small cans before but got a job in needs some freezing so bought the same kit as Allen glad I’ve seen him use it makes me feel alittle better hahah
Assuming you've used the freeze kit because the pipe is full of water, then solder would be a risk. I put an isolation valve straight on that's ready to go and solder the dry pipes from then on. Solder pipe with water in is a nightmare
To get the pipe hot enough to solder the ice would be melting & sending water or water vapour to where you wanted to solder, making it impossible to solder.
Could you maybe space the jackets further away from the solder area so the heat wouldn't affect it so much? The freeze pipes look like there's some good length to do this or you could probably obtain some longer ones as well
Looks like a really good piece of Kit to have in your Van, I suppose a must it's a case of when you're out there riding on the the Range, in those Westerns they say, You don't take a Knife to a Gunfight...just wondering it might be Overkill one could use Gloves , long sleeves and safety goggles or safety glasses just in case a hose let go and blew off, as getting Cold Burn wouldn't be Nice ...Great Upload...
I would just not feel comfortable using the throw away freezing kits. I have used a friend's machine and it came in super handy. (I still felt unsure though) haha
I'm not a plumber but I would assume as long as the water isn't flowing then it should be possible to freeze a section off, you might need to use more product or top it up more during the work but I can't see why it wouldn't work
@@AllenHart999 No Alan I haven't used yet, but I was very impressed. Alan I am watching all of yours videos and from my point of view they're great. I am waiting for the next one. Thanks again Alan
Its handy to keep the freeze kit just incase you need it. Ive owned the same one for about 12 years but would say ive used it less than 20 times. It can be a real time saver not having to drain down a system. With plastic/speedfit pipe ive had an issue where the speed fit fitting would not go on the pipe as it had expanding slightly. It better with plastic to freeze a little further away to allow the fitting to be fitted. I like the organiser you have in your van fitted on the front bulkhead. Where can i get one? looks very practical. Thank you Allen👌
I think it needs to be static, so it can be pressurised but with the flow not currently moving otherwise the chilled water will circulate before freezing properly. I can see it would be helpful on a mains pipe if you needed to replace a stop valve or something (I'm not a plumber so not sure what other situations it would be helpful in). I guess it's mostly useful for controlled conditions/maintenance and not for stopping flow of a burst pipe, I'm sure there are different or better products available for flowing pipes

Great video. Like you, I've not often felt the need to use a freeze kit. But, when you have no other choice. It is a godsend.

Hi Alan it's worth to have the freezing machine more reliable its abit expensive but will make money back easily.
Never used one, People just want to spend my money 😂😂😂😂joking aside, Thank You.
Id recommend the ROFROST from Rotenberger. Things are dynamite saved my ass many a time. So long as youve got electricity handy
Great video. Just curious how long the can will last (I know it depends on how much you use it); however, in general terms, how many pipes can you freeze on 1 can)?
I am guessing about 5 freezes, Depends on size of pipes and how much you use though. Maybe 3 with me as I will use too much 😂
Brilliant Video Allen, You've answered so many questions in one hit. Many thanks.
Hi Peter. Thank You
Would you not run the risk of the pipe bursting due to expansion?
Not really as the ice plug could expand both ways. Thanks.
Very nice to see! I was hoping that you would wait for the 2nd press fit until it started leaking, and you did exactly that! :)

Hi Allen great video
Can we solder the pipe what we cut or not ?
Very good question, i might try that. Thanks.

I would have thought you would have an electric one. Hope you are well buddy.

Given how expensive those press-fit tools & multiple heads are, why do more plumbers not use push-fit (tectite) fittings instead?
Looking smart. Watched. Pipe freezing is an interesting topic 🙃
Thank You.
Used this kit on black iron heating systems in schools before never let me down
Thanks.
I would just not feel comfortable using the throw away freezing kits.
I have used a friend's machine and it came in super handy. (I still felt unsure though) haha
I am going to try and solder near it lol.
Would this work a 120 degree hot water pipe? Or a 180 degree boiler pipe?
I wouldn’t have thought so.
I'm not a plumber but I would assume as long as the water isn't flowing then it should be possible to freeze a section off, you might need to use more product or top it up more during the work but I can't see why it wouldn't work
Turn off the boiler first.
Another great video - thanks Allen 👍
Thank you.
use this in the loft to change ballvalve if cant find stopcock . it is nice and faster.
How often do you use it? Have you had any fail? Thanks.

Hi Gas Mark. It’s a BG van, Came with it unfortunately,
Can it be used on pipework that has been painted?
Yes.

Are these okay on white plastic pipe?
Supposedly, but using the 1 off can from toolstation or screwfix you have to leave the jacket on for 10mins rather than 5 for copper.
So what’s the point of freezing the pipe if there’s no flow going through?
So you can cut into the pipe and change components. Thanks.

🤣🤣💧💧
Gently pinch the pipe with a pair of grips this stops the ice plug from leaving the pipe.

Why would you bother freezing it if there’s no flow?
its a training video
