I'm sorry for the email and Patreon bombardment, but honestly. My brother, for which whose body I reside in, and I, actually ran from your livestream in fear, because we have an inate fear of publicly opening up. We couldn't say alot of what we feel or what Chris is dealing with. We are hurting so deeply. Chris is trapped inside his own mind, afraid to be. He is so hurt, but don't despair. You don't even know, but you are actually helping to bring him back. Your beautiful words, and glorious gleaming heart are the breath and life for which I will use to resurrect my brother in a new glorious, stronger, better form. So in a way, you are bringing to this world a new life

It's so cool how you're analyzing it without knowing the intent behind the song, and you're STILL spot on! Especially how you're talking about how he's in love with this thing but it's toxic or maybe he just can't seem to pull himself away from it because even though it's ugly, it's also beautiful and he loves it and learning he's talking about the music industry itself is still so damned fitting.

  • @gecko475
    @gecko475 Рік тому +25

First time here. Great analysis but as mentioned it was about the music industry. But the beautiful thing is with SlipKnot is that you can make up you're own interpretation. I was singing away to myself to a Rammstein song in at work (German singing band) and looked up the translation afterwards. If there were any German speakers they'd be terrified... lol. But yeah, please keep doing SlipKnot if you can, they are poetry in disguise. As for the masks, they are tailored to how each individual feels and let's them perform in anomynity - freeing who they truely are. Vermillion would be a good song to look into. Anyhows keep up the good work and take care 👍

I think a reaction to the Devil in I would also be quite fitting for your channel, which is on the same Album by the way.
It may seem a little bit weird hearing it without having context, It was released soon after one of their Bandmembers passed away, and the Band wanted to do major changes around the Band and their music. Scince they always design a different Mask for every album they release, and this is (as far as I am aware) the only song you can see two of each Bandmembers Masks, this is also about freeing themselves from their past identities.
You will get it when you watch it :)

I had not heard this song before. These had to be really dark times for the band during this album "The Gray Chapter" being this was right after a tragic event regarding one of the band members. I really like that two note transition guitar part late in the verses right before the chorus; very elegant. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it; credit where it's due- Corey Taylor is one of the best writers I've ever heard. Very interesting track. Very haunting.

I inherited my family homestead and listened to the album this song is from while I renovated it for my family to move in. The album is about dealing with the loss of the bassist, a founding member. I dealt with the loss of my father and impending loss of my mother with it's help. As wacky as it may sound, this band and bands like them are great for catharsis because they're the songwriter's own coping and healing being rendered as lyrics.

Felt a need to comment again, because you touch on what you the aggression you thought Slipknot was/is. Check out (as reaction video or not) their song "Nero Forte" and have the lyrics pulled up. Because there is a "vertical" lyric for lack of a better phrase at the breakdown in the song. It's a song about moving on from a toxic relationship. And the up tempo their known for comes through much better than in "Snuff" or "Killpop" :)
"You can do your worst to me. At the end of the day, that's what you do best."

When things are just too much, and I catch myself sinking into myself (if that makes any sense at all) these are my go-to songs. The 1st really gives me a voice when I don't have one. The 2nd... rough because unfortunately many people who suffer from mental health issues have a difficult time hearing someone tell you they accept & love you for who you are.

Slipknot. Enough of a band with agressive lyrics that made me end up tattooing Corey in me in my right leg as it is something im still able to "walk" because of them. Slipknot as agressive as it may seem made me see that is not always not my fault, not always my mistake to react in a certain way, being agressive phisically to my dad when he is hitting my mom. To a certain degree, Slipknot prevented a suicide of "someone" who didnt want to die but was just looking for peace, love, a place to feel belong to. Praise the Metal for those who gets it.

I always saw this song as from the point of view of the drugs themselves, the man is just a metaphor for the addiction. The “relationship” sounds more and more sinister as the song progresses, like the addiction getting worse and worse, the ending to the song being her finally overdosing.

Tool, SLIPKNOT, Mudvayne, a lot of metal groups actually write far deeper than the lyrics.( which is simply a reiteration of a comment I made already). However anyone utilizes music to cope, is that persons reality. I came to a place where I wanted to live marginally more than I wanted to leave my son with that memory.
I would put SLIPKNOT, tool, AtomicBitchwax, on volume 8 on an IPod, and earbuds, and fall alseep in 5 minutes. Wife couldn’t sleep it was so loud. I’m a drummer/filmmaker, maybe I’m used to it. However it was better than 6-8 Xanax. I’d wake up to it still screaming. For some of us, without music, we would have failed long ago. SLIPKNOT has some great lyrical tricks, but I’ll always be keen on Bother, side project( theme to Spider-Man), with side project StoneSour. Peace! 1, stay great

I had a health class where the teacher, I don't remember the exact words, but basically opened the room up to talking about reasons for self harm, and some girl just immediately confidently raises her hand and in full dismissive borderline aggressive tone of voice said it's just a cry for attention. And the teacher kind just stands there stroking his chin as the conversation went from there. Which to be clear, he may have earnestly been thoughtful and/or considering how to address that brazen statement. And I don't remember for sure if I responded or just really wanted to but that memory sticks with me. A whole class room and somebody can throw that "gem" out and nobody starts a riot or w/e. And even if I try to break my own back over it, while I can't remember everything else, I do remember specifically that she didn't say something like "ooh half the time it's just attention" or "I'm pretty sure there's an attention element" or w/e, she just flatly said it's just attention seeking. I can't do you any favors interpreting that, that's just straight fuqqed. From every angle. She's literally that Whitest Kids U Know sketch; "just ignore them. oooh.... sometimes...... sometimes they'll do _that_............". Next time get up on a podium with a loudspeaker and demand strangers refuse opportunities to help people who are standing on a ledge, just really go for it

Love the reaction, and the song. Your previous reaction to Slipknot was to "Snuff". Your comments in this one about Corey's vocals, do yourself the favor, even if you don't make it a reaction video, and watch his solo live from London (link below). The album that "Killpop" is off of was their first studio release after the death of their bassist Paul Gray. The song "Snuff" was on the one that most recently preceded his death and was one of the last songs he and Corey worked on together. In the solo video he mentions how hard it is for him to sing it. Great showcase of his vocals, not to mention great audience participation. Plus you get to see him without his Slipknot mask. :)

they wear masks so their looks don't dictate their popularity. At least that's how I see it anyway. It also allows them to be in public without causing attention, at least in the beginning.

Corey isn't even entirely sure. The masks were already a thing for the band before he joined. According to him the "band lore" is that Clown wore his mask to a band practice one day, then Joey started wearing one and it just kind of went from there with other members getting masks as time went on. Didn't really have anything to do with anonymity or their looks dictating anything. Corey and Jim were already in Stone Sour before they were in Slipknot, and Sid had a career as a DJ. The others had already been in other bands in the local Iowa scene so at least in the Des Moines metal scene people already knew who they were.
“And it just happened organically, it wasn’t something that was really thought out, it was just something that people felt. And the masks changed over the years so much. Certain people’s masks changed dramatically even before we got signed. It was cool, it’s almost like trying to find yourself in that kind of state.
For me, the mask has always been a representation of the person inside me who needs this music. That’s the face of the guy inside me who wants to sing this shit, who wants to feel this shit, who’s got something to say. So it’s always been that physical representation.” - Corey on Bertcast recently.
