One thing, she's always checking her phone and her phone has a clock so she would see it there. Another thing, she has a desk job with cameras and computers that have the time shown. So really there is no way to avoid a clock without giving up phone, computer, camera, etc...
butterfly3183 but does she use it or does she only Cook ready meals or takeout I mean she talks about asking her parents about how to properly store food I mean IF you never use the kitchen then its easy to keep clean.
I believe, that actually nobody out there is an adult and everybody, who seems to be, is just better pretending to be one or is "more adult". But no one ever is always 100% adult. And that's important. As a child you see things with more fascination and you are more positive. And this makes our lives more colourful and happy :)
In a city? There are mirrors everywhere. I get distracted by my reflection even walking past a shiny car. Or shiny anything. And windows are mirrors at night.
Congratulations on your cohabitation! I'd love to see Five Days of Yes. I mean, within reason. I find saying yes to things that are harmless but you normally wouldn't do can lead to great things. Especially in NY. Even if it's not saying "yes" but maybe sort of a road less traveled thing. Taking a walking route you don't normally take and seeing where it takes you.
Some tips that have helped me immensely: 1. Invest in a water filter pitcher or one you can attach to your faucet instead of buying bottled water 2. Get the sunday paper if only just for the coupons. Trust me. 3. Vinegar mixed with water is one of the best house cleaners. ;)
Just a tip, veggies and smoothies should always be prepared and served at the same time or they lose nutrients. I cook for myself every day and usually make large batches of rice, grains, overnight oats, or any things like that. Then I steam up some veggies real quick, it only takes a few minutes, or add freshly chopped fruit for breakfast/snacks. With that being said, cooking and organizing a kitchen are about the only thing I am good at as an adult haha (:
I wish adulting could be so easy as you show.. sometimes its just too scary! Im finishing my masters and still feel like a kid.. Not that its bad.. but sometimes being an adult sucks and its really scary.. i know i already said that.. i think ill see this video again until you convince me that it could be ok.. kisses from Brazil.. Love your show! :D
What scares you most? You will be so proud of yourself! Coming out of my first work interview I thought to myself "if I get this, I did it all by myself, I'll be so proud of myself" it was the best feeling.
So my first thought was Lucy ran out of ideas but then it got interesting after she said she moved in with her boyfriend of five years...go Lucy!!!!!❤️
5 days of living on the Road!! Like in a car or RV!! I'd love that. Lucie I love your videos on R29, I think you should make your own channel!! #ILoveLivingWithLucie #LucieLove #TryLivingWithLucie !!! Lots of love ❤️ Your biggest fan Gabby😍💖
I struggled with Mint, so I tried Digit and loved it! It monitors your spending habits for the first few days, then it gradually pulls money out of your account and stores it in a pocket inside your account. The money is there, you just can't access it unless you request it. It pulls about an average of $3 a day for me (sometimes up to $15 after I get paid), and it's been a life saver. I've had the app for 9 months and I've already saved around $2,000. And that goes straight to my real savings account to build interest, unless there's an emergency. It's great because I'll hesitate to pull $50 or $500 out to save, but $3 or $4 a day? I wouldn't even notice that. Also, my slow cooker is my BFF. You can make large batches of meals for 8 hours while you're away at work. No messy dishes (slow cooker liners, y'all), no nights wasted on meal prep. BOOM.
One of my rules for adulting is to accomplish 3 things each day. Doing a load of laundry, paying rent, cleaning out the fridge, loading the dishwasher, getting groceries, scrubbing the tub, listing things I want to sell on Poshmark, etc. Going to work does not count.
OMG YOU GOT IT DIALED DOWN LADY! I am turning 24 this month and have been living with the bo. This was so encouraging to really stop half assing my adulting.
Tbh the only reason why I'm subscribed and I was these videos is because of this girl. Idk her name but she is awesome and she makes this video enjoyable
Very helpful for people just getting settled into a new place, but the things I struggle with the most as a 25-year-old are making doctor's/dentist's appointments, doing legal things like getting a new driver's license when moving to a new state, doing taxes, health insurance, and just generally making sure that everything is where it should be (including my car) and I won't get a ticket for it. I wish I could find advice about that! Too bad it's all too specific for a video like this. Thanks for the video!
There's a really cool advice that I got from someone about how to keep your house clean: she said that everytime she gets off the chair and goes to another room she takes something to put it into its place ... like if I go to the kitchen and I have a dirty glass on my desk I will take just that one thing and put it in the kitchen it makes everything much more easier
I would love to see an update on how you are doing sticking to the ideas you want to keep..... Budgeting, planning, cooking at home those kinds of things
You can call and get your appliances serviced: air conditioner, water purifier, geysers. You can also clean cabinets and arrange billing and receipts. Look at the banking. Start reading 10 pages a day of a non-fictional book which teaches you something, exercise daily and keep self care days.
This is perfect timing considering in a week I become an official adult and in a few months I'll be moving out of the family home! Exciting but also scary!
Five days of following a complete healthy diet with full servings! I never get in the recommended fruits, veggies, etc and would love to see what it looks like!
Girl, I'm 18 and I've been doing a low-budget/costless version of your "adulting" practices ever since I moved out of my parents's house a year ago. I honestly don't understand how wealthy people do so little cooking/budgeting when they still live at home or when they first move away to college.
My favorite spending hack is to put my budgeted entertainment money into envelopes for each week. When I go out, I leave my card at home (of course I can uber or something if I need with my phone). This ensures that I don't go over on my spending when it comes to entertainment - a difficult task, I know. :)
Can you do a segment on taxes and investing( like on a business or when you should consider getting a car/ apartment)? Possible ways young adults can make our money work for us, not just for us to work to earn money :) Btw, I love this series!
Adulting is so funny - I feel like I needed help being a child. No one helped me with the things you typically get help with, at the end of high school in particular. No one helped me with university applications, finding a place to live, travel, nothing. Even when I asked! I've basically been adulting since I was eight, but I still do not feel very grown-up. I wonder if it's because I skipped a lot of the more fun stuff? I think not driving is a huge factor - I've had a baby, been married, been living on my own since 17 (12 years), but I don't drive! Nothing like going to an educational workshop via taxi and waiting for the instructor to drive you home. Whomp whomp.
Your life story sounds vaguely like mine. Minus the baby, I was living and taking care of my sick mother since I was 14. I love adulting and being indipendent, wake up at 06.00 every day, cook, pack lunches , have a very healthy diet, care for my pets and husband. I also don't have a drivers licence! But that will change. This will be the year I face that fear. I'm done having to relay on others for transportation, plus I want to be able to drive when my husband is tired so we don't have to take so many breaks when traveling.
I LOVE adulting, but all my way!! I'm 27, have a cat and a husband, and I have miserably failed at meal planning or budgeting, several times. I'm winging it, I've always loved to cook and have a very cheap lifestyle, so I'm still out of trouble after six official years of adulting. I am privileged by being born in Switzerland tho, so it's probably also easier for me.
You should try the everydollar app for budgeting! You set up you monthly budget, and instead of using receipts and a spreadsheet, each time you spend money it's so fast and easy to add the item in the app. Then it does all the math for you and tracks when/where you are spending you grocery/restaurant/etc money! It's helped my husband and I to stay on top of our budget and know exactly how much we've spent each day rather than letting the receipts pile up each month:)
Something to do is after you're finished using a dish, either put it in the dishwasher (if you have one) or wash it. Don't start out after you make a huge meal, instead start at breakfast and do that throughout the day and something that helps is to set a reminder in your phone as you sit down to eat. That way when you finish the alarm goes off and you'll remember to do it. And you won't have an excuse. Also, make a list every week of what's in your fridge and when you bought it and hang it up on the fridge. This works really well if you're moving because it gives you a timeline of when to eat what, when to freeze, and what you have. And when you finish an item just cross it off! And take a picture of the list before you go that way when you go grocery shopping later in the week, you'll know exactly what you need!
You are the cutest! AND You are doing just fine!! You have it together more than most people your age. You have the most engaging and beautiful spirit that shines so bright through your work and videos.
5 Days of Volunteering 5 Days of Handstands 5 Days of Baking 5 Days of Yoga 5 Days of Singing Classes 5 Days of Church 5 Days of Writing Fiction 5 Days of Quilt Making 5 Days of No Electricity (Except work) 5 Days of No Eating Out 5 Days of Pay It Forward That should give some brainstorm ideas... Hehehe. Have fun!
Okay u guys, I need to tell you something, this adult thing, it just kinda sneeks up on you. One day you're in the line to an all night marathon of Twilight and the next you have separate saving accounts, a house and is really interested in the stock market. I have no idea how it all happened. Still going to the release of The Cursed Child though, cosplaying professor Umbridge because she has sensible shoes. :D
5 days learning to sew/knitt volunteer/ help out your community learning ballet or dance culture cuisine part 2 learning a new language part 2 do parent work for a week ( pet parent) do something that involves helping animals or being around them. learn some self-defense skills ( the world is a dangerous place ) a week of living like your great great grandparents did ( no modern day technology. wash clothes by hand make your food from scratch)
I love your Videos! No matter what crazy thing it is you always make it look fun. You should do a part 2 of this video I feel like there is so much more than was hard to fit into one video
Take your paychecks for the month and list out all your bills based on the weeks between the checks. Then as soon as you get your paycheck stick into savings your savings goal. Then from what is left after subtracting all bills, take what is left and divide by the remaining days. Redo this calculation if you indulge to understand how going out one night effects the rest of that pay period. This way your overspending in one pay period doesn’t spill over to the next. Also make sure you are really tracking all your expenses for tax purposes. Also I noticed in one of your videos it looked like you have narrow feet. I would like you to teach where to get narrow shoes!
I loved your video Lucie!I definitely need to work on the batch making of food. Eek. My biggest adulting problem is doing laundry weekly, not when I have run out of clothes.
you should start reading labels! 5 days of reading labels with a targeted area each day like makeup, bath and shower things, all canned and long stored things in the kitchen, etc. the you could have a day with what you've learnt at the end, some things or brands you like and same with what you won't buy anymore this is a big and important topic so please do consider it and you will put less chemicals into your body and environment in the future
I'm already living on my own and trust me people, doing all she did for this videos is so freaking hard. Sometimes I just want to go back living with my mom...
As soon as I get a paycheck I put half in savings and completely ignore it. Then I pay all of my bills that occur during that period or set aside the money for autopay. I then divide the number of days left into what is remaining for play money. If I spend more than average I divide what is left and live on less until the next paycheck. This is similar to YNAB software concept. I also pay off my credit card immediately so I can see what is left in checking to divide among remaining days to be more accurate. I have a lot less guilt this way if I want to buy something for say $100 because I can just adjust my average for a few days to spend less.
i think there's one big thing what adults neeeeeeed to do but dont work on it until it blows up in their faces... taking care of yourself! not only wiht doctor thing but wiht inner peace and balance. Im a therapy kind of girl and i think its literaly the solution to all of your problems. i also understand its not for everyone, so just figure your personal way to be in control of your happiness, understand your emotions and not just burry yourself in the million other things that adulting comes with. be aware that happiness is something that needs to be worked on
Love your videos! And I'd love to see you trying 5 days of different looks: gothic, punk, decora, pin up, mod, etc It could be a great video about look, personality and self confidence wearing an specific type of clothes :)
Hey Lucie, thanks for the vid! Can you tell us how you were able to afford all of the furniture and nice things in your New York City apartment? I'm 25 and live in a 1br. I haven't even been able to think about buying furniture because it's so expensive.
this series is the only reason i am subscribed to refinery29

5 days of random acts of kindness
YES PLEASE!!
I'm amazed that you're 24 and so on top of your shit! You are such an inspiration and I am a big fan.
5 days of not checking the time at all, never
Yes!!! thats cool
One thing, she's always checking her phone and her phone has a clock so she would see it there. Another thing, she has a desk job with cameras and computers that have the time shown. So really there is no way to avoid a clock without giving up phone, computer, camera, etc...
that's part of the challenge too ;) but i have to admit that it s a little hard to accomplish
If she didn't check the time she wouldn't know when she needed to be somewhere so it would be really hard.
+Abbi Hodnett timers
FYI - my journal & stickers are from Ban.do! Follow along on Instagram and Twitter (both @luciebfink) to see me living my adult life :)

I definitely agree with keeping track of your monthly expenses. I use an app and every day I put in what expenses or income I make that day.

Oooo yes!
i think it will be so hard. But yeah great idea, she has to try it!
In a city? There are mirrors everywhere. I get distracted by my reflection even walking past a shiny car. Or shiny anything. And windows are mirrors at night.
Perhaps no mirror at home or personal use? Clearly public mirrors are unavoidable.
+Miss Iva exactly!
5 DAYS OF VOLUNTEERING! I love this serious and it's the reason I subscribed to R29.
5 days of conserving water and electricity. Should definitely try this Lucie!

Lucie, I was in the exact situation almost a year ago! Adulting is hard but so worth it :)
Five days of following a complete healthy diet with full servings! I never get in the recommended fruits, veggies, etc and would love to see what it looks like!
I love this series so much!!
Girl, I'm 18 and I've been doing a low-budget/costless version of your "adulting" practices ever since I moved out of my parents's house a year ago. I honestly don't understand how wealthy people do so little cooking/budgeting when they still live at home or when they first move away to college.

I really like it! Keep up creating videos, you're doing it great 😻
The fact that you know how much you spend on things is a start. Some people can't even track their money...
I have a lot less guilt this way if I want to buy something for say $100 because I can just adjust my average for a few days to spend less.
where are those stickers and is that journal from? They are so cute!
ban.do!!!!
I love these series Lucie! great job and keep them coming!!! You inspired me with your Mint budget...but where was the savings part?
i think there's one big thing what adults neeeeeeed to do but dont work on it until it blows up in their faces... taking care of yourself! not only wiht doctor thing but wiht inner peace and balance. Im a therapy kind of girl and i think its literaly the solution to all of your problems. i also understand its not for everyone, so just figure your personal way to be in control of your happiness, understand your emotions and not just burry yourself in the million other things that adulting comes with. be aware that happiness is something that needs to be worked on
Not sure if you have already or not but you should look into bullet journaling. My BUJO has kept me so on track!

Hey Lucie, thanks for the vid! Can you tell us how you were able to afford all of the furniture and nice things in your New York City apartment? I'm 25 and live in a 1br. I haven't even been able to think about buying furniture because it's so expensive.
