I never really believed. As an adult i read the bible for the first time because my mom wouldnt listen to me unless i read it first. I have the most basic, Cliff Notes knowledge of Greek philosophers, but I think I remember that one or some of the Greek philosophers held the ability to reason in high regard, and only attributed that ability to a select category of people. Maybe they were onto something and we're not placing enough of a divide between people. I mean we all know certain people who can draw unusually well compared to the rest of us. When we're kids we'll see someone in school drawing on their folders with uncanny talent. Maybe the divide between people's ability to reason is distinct, beyond just basic intelligence, similar to artistic ability. Sure IQ/intelligence is a big factor. But having a good ability to reason and use logic, I've come across so many people just seem to be really bad at reasoning and following the thread of logic through a concept, it seems feasible that reasoning might be a gift reserved for a minority of people.

I bet most of them thought long and hard about their argument before they called in but as soon as they go live, whatever concise thoughts they'd prepared go out the window and they struggle just to maintain their composure and they inevitably revert to a more defensive tone.

He was responding to different points, he doesn’t even believe in God (although he’s said many times he’s open to the idea of one existing if there is evidence for it) and was pointing out inconsistencies. It’s more like “if God exists and didn’t say anything against slavery, or allows evil to happen in general, God is immoral”. With the “morality is just an opinion” point, you gotta understand that there are two levels to morality. There is no objective morality in the sense that people all come up with their own view of morality based on their environment, but there is objective morality in the sense that, if you have a goal to maximize the amount of joy for people and minimize the suffering, there are objective ways to progress or regress towards that goal. Hopefully you get it, and are a “deeper thinker” now

I have the most basic, Cliff Notes knowledge of Greek philosophers, but I think I remember that one or some of the Greek philosophers held the ability to reason in high regard, and only attributed that ability to a select category of people. Maybe they were onto something and we're not placing enough of a divide between people. I mean we all know certain people who can draw unusually well compared to the rest of us. When we're kids we'll see someone in school drawing on their folders with uncanny talent. Maybe the divide between people's ability to reason is distinct, beyond just basic intelligence, similar to artistic ability. Sure IQ/intelligence is a big factor.
But having a good ability to reason and use logic, I've come across so many people just seem to be really bad at reasoning and following the thread of logic through a concept, it seems feasible that reasoning might be a gift reserved for a minority of people.
I knew and felt morality before I could even read. It wasn’t Jebus that taught me. When I took my buddies Lincoln log without asking I felt bad, but I still wanted it. I gave it back because I’m not a Trump
I feel empathy for these people. Most just regurgitate what they heard in church, then you have those who listened to a few William Lane Craig lectures and try to present his arguments but they only half remember them (not that Craig has great arguments but he's a well known Christian debater) and they're doing this on the phone to a guy who has been debating people with actual debating credentials for decades and they get nervous and tongue tied and while they're trying to process Matt's first point, he's jumped to the next point, leaving them feeling even more confused and nervous.
I bet most of them thought long and hard about their argument before they called in but as soon as they go live, whatever concise thoughts they'd prepared go out the window and they struggle just to maintain their composure and they inevitably revert to a more defensive tone.
