If Goff had genuine value the rams wouldn’t have needed to give away an extra first round pick. Goff was a far younger player than Stafford, if he was viewed as a genuine upgrade those trade terms make no sense.

@@brentstack3267When Brad Holmes was a scout for the Rams, Jared Goff was like 18 so I don't think he was necessarily his guy, but it seems that it's a good fit and regardless of what happens going forward, he's had a resurgence in his career after clearly losing his confidence for a few years. Not saying he was trash, but he struggled without a doubt. The Lions are doing everything in their power to instill confidence and reassurance to provide a comfortable environment and as of the middle of last year it seemed like Goff found his own voice and started leading the team rather than just the offense.

I don’t know the legality of the “no-trade clause” exactly but I think it’s usually something like, “The Team cannot trade player to any other team without that player’s consent.” It’s something along those lines. Now if so it gives the player leverage at least to his next move. He could retire, he could simply reject the trade, or he could demand to be traded to only a subset of teams. That way, say, Goff could agree to go to the Vikings but reject the Jets, as an example.

One thing most fans don’t know about Goff: he scored a 36 on his Wonderlic. That’s actually really good as I believe NFL QB average is 25 although I’d have to verify. But he has a beautiful throwing motion and very good stats all the way around. He’s been to one Super Bowl and if not for Campbell’s screwing up would’ve been to two. But that Wonderlic score has a lot to do with his success. There are QBs who get way too much hype who can’t win a playoff game and have awful Wonderlic scores - you know who they are so I won’t even waste my time typing their overrated names - but the Lions are playing Goff for a reason: he gives them a good chance at winning a Lombardi Trophy.

@@Adri_Unsung Your use of capitol letters is impressive. The two years that proceed the "lower end" ( I like quotes too ) will be fraught with 30 TD's coupled with 16 turn overs (sic - this is a fancy term that means I understand it's not a "real word" ) and 8 yards per completion personal stas versus the teams 10.x this year. Is that sustainable? Perhaps with Ben staying. Nothing in Goff's career suggests his fumbling and int issues will correct themselves. So, is one year evidence enough to earn that contract? The Lions are betting yes.

@@waltercarol9714 huh? Why would it though ? He’s been playing good.. also he started to play better once he started to trust his line instead of rushing to get the ball out which was halfway through the year before when they went on the winning streak .. there’s no reason to think it will backfire on them

Reality is, Stafford at 36 is still the better QB. Take that run game away from Goff and well, let's just say, Oh sh!t. 😳

Another air head comment lol you probably think Goff contract is literally 5 years & worth 212 in full lol. To ask for a no trade clause means he wants to be a lion!! REMEMBER when you guys said nobody wants to go to Detroit? Better yet stay in Detroit well look now NO TRADE CLAUSE

I'd say its not uncommon or unheard of to have that in contract. Cousins added that into his contract with the dirty birds.
