My hair reduced falling after I did these things. I used homemade hair masks like avocado and yogurt. I avoided brushing my hair when it was wet to stop it from breakage. Once a week, I rubbed my scalp with hair oil. I washed my hair 1-2 times a week with liitlexttra coconinon shampoo.
Earlier, my hair used to fall when combing post-application of oil. But after applying this liitlllextra cooconnion oil, I see reduced hair on my comb. Now less hair falls after shampooing. But anticipating positive results after one month or so. Since at least 60% of my hair fall is controlled.
For those interested - I have been using The Ordinary’s Multi Peptide Serum for Hair Density for the past 9 weeks. I take about five minutes every night to apply it liberally and massage it in. The new growth may just be from my now daily scalp massage, but I also lose significantly less hair than I used to when I shampoo. It’s a fairly affordable option and definitely worth a try.
I think I've seen one short on this from Dr. Somji Skin (UK). He said it was good for hair growth but not hair loss. Dr. Mark (@dermarkologist) said he was testing it but hadn't come to any conclusion since he was using other products as well. Otherwise the only other channel that focuses on hair who's talked about this is Abbey Yung.
I have had major luck with the Caffeine Eye serum with EGCG. First time my hair has grown back at all since the virus 3 years ago. Recommend it highly.
Thank you Dr Gray. I use Rosemary water, I make myself, also Rosemary oil and put onion, coffee and black rice water mixture on my scalp and hair. I suffered from hair loss on my crown for over ten years and I can say, it is nearly 6 months now. My hair is growing back it is very fine at the moment. I massage my scalp daily to get the blood flowing to my scalp and it has definitely made an improvement.
I see many black ladies recommending it because it has worked for them. Some are using cloves with the rosemary and some don't. One lady mentioned that her hairdresser always sprayed some kind of herbal water on her clients hair. Can't remember which one it was. I don't think so many ladies would recommend it if there was nothing to show it works. I found a shampoo with rosemary added to it. Thanks for sharing your recipe - the additional coffee added may also be good - that makes some sense.
Someone needs to do a study comparing massaging your scalp with an oil, versus massaging without oil. From personal experience, I saw great hair growth and density results from just massaging my scalp with my fingers nightly for 5mins, no oils applied. I have a theory that massaging scalp helps with blood circulation, especially when you wear tight buns/ponytails.
Yes I have seen videos from other UA-camrs on this topic. Can’t recall his name but he did research on it. He recommended “pinching” the scalp using both hands (not painfully). It’s a type of myofacial release.
I really would want to try it, but when my scalp gets a massage it equals to oily greasy hair.. so I massage my scalp under the shower when it needs to be washed anyway
It possibly does, but there's also the side that massaging the scalp with oil will improve circulation a step up from without because of the warmth it traps. I've even heard at least one cosmetic formulater saying to avoid using pure oil during the day since it can cause too much heat or possibly burn the skin, especially in sunlight ~In my religion there's a practice of massaging with oil so I'm going to be enjoying it either way~ 😅
The loudest usually leads. Yes I have found that consumer influencers seem to dictate what I see on the shelves. Luckily I am not a trendy person in any way so I ignore most of these things. Good research, proven results, decent price point and I am all over it.
Rosemary oil 100 percent works if you are patient and consistent. My hairline came back after it started residing. Maybe there aren’t a lot of studies, but it’s hyped up because it works. You have to be patient and consistent.
Rosemary oil works must be organic and buy your local organic store Also make sure to vitamin check yourself and take the missing vitamins specially Zin and D3 with K2. I usually take 1 tablet of Vegan Multivan and 1 D3 with K2 I also use the microneedling pen once a month 0.75 This helps if you are start loosing or receding. Be patient and consistent
I love my rosemary oil. I don't understand why people are all of a sudden knocking down mielle now that it's just not made for women with hair like yours , now all a sudden it's a problem. It works for me it's has slowed down my sheding witch was a lot. I'm good
listen to urself. rosemary oil has always been a problem for the simple fact that there’s not enough research to support its effectiveness. ANECDOTES are not evidence. this has nothing to do w hair types
Encouraged by a suggestion about reaactivate hair serum of liitllextra, I decided to try it. Having gone through 2 bottles of these, I’ve seen new hair growth.
Rosemary is not popular because of scientific research, but because there are old traditions around it, regardless of whether the science has caught up with traditional treatments or not.
I think people would rather use something natural like rosemary oil, because it is available and natural. Not everybody can afford go to doctor and if the doctor is free, not all of the doctors will give you medication. Also there is a long list of side effects with medication, so the ready to buy and more safe to use product is always more appealing option
The 'available' aspect is key. But you should know 'natural' means nothing. Natural substances can be beneficial, useless or actively harmful same as a manufactured product. And natural never means it will have less side effects. They have equal chances of having side effects, if not more in some cases.
Natural doesn't mean no risk. Essential Oils can cause allergies. Why not vote for a government that installs public healthcare? It isn't evil communism to get something back for your taxes.
Rosemary oil and caffine raises blood pressure it goes straight into your blood stream. I have high BP and take meds after using rice water with caffine my BP went up to 215/214. I stopped using it waited 3 weeks used Rosemary oil the same thing happened so I would take BP 30 min after then every hour for at least 4 hours. Most hair growth products raise BP so use with caution
interesting...try rubbing beet root into your scalp to lower your blood pressure (not medical advice - anecdotal academic discussion)...might just grow you a giant crop of beet red hair
Seriously? Thanks for that tip. I have chronic BP (seems drug resistant). Just read / heard that maybe increase potassium (e.g. citrate) to counter the sodium.
Not just amla. There are so many Indian powders that help. As someone who has psoriasis, my scalp feeling cooled down, is important to not feeling itchy. Bringharaj powder is so cooling that honestly every psoriasis shampoo and hair tonic should contain it. It cools your scalp way better than mint and tea tree oil. 1000 times better.
Melatonin had me growing hairs where I didn’t want to and not crazy about using it forever. At the very least rosemary has healed my scalp from dryness and irritations and as a result my hair grew stronger. I use a Japanese lotion now that contains rosemary and it has really beautified my hair and scalp
People were using rosemary oil in their hair LONG before studies were done! But I guess there isn't tons of money to be made from people making their own rosemary hair oil🤔
I agree! They're never going to accept anything natural as key it has to be something they cook up in a lab to be believable....I can't stand Melatonin for sleep I get no sleep and feel groggy the whole day after, so I will stick with Rosemary oil for my beautiful crown.....
Research can sometimes be driven by politics and business. If large studies were done and came to conclusion that this certain oil works then there goes minoxidil and all those interventions. No money will be made and now dermatologists may lose jobs associated with that area. There’s more than what meets the eye!
I’m actually using the ISDIN retinal intense serum in my hairline as well as face (contains: retinal, bakuchiol, niacinamide, melatonin and even rosemary extract) and it’s been 2 months. I do see improvement. ☺️ Thanks Dr dray for the video! ❤
Very interesting. My vet prescribed melatonin pills to treat alopecia in my pomeranian and it surprisingly worked! Never understood why but I guess I have an idea now!
Hello @dr. Dray, I wanted to bring to your attention that a new hair loss product from South Korea called CosmeRNA is now available for sale in Western Europe this spring. It is claimed to be as effective as finasteride but without the associated side effects. Would you be interested in reviewing the studies and sharing your thoughts on whether it is worth considering?
I tried minoxidil for about 6 months. Not only did it not help regrow any hair it completely fried my scalp. I had sores and it gave me horrible dandruff for quite a while from all the dead skin that was fried off my scalp.
I've been using rosemary oil for three years now. I make my own tinctures. I have to admit that I have experienced an increase in positive hair health and length. I advise everyone to research your hair porosity and scalp state. Use the carrier oils that go in accordance with your needs. All my best wishes to all of you. Thank you, Dr Dray for all the good words that you give to all of us. 😊
Care to share the formula or ratio, and which carrier oil? As a general rule, bulk or concentrated anything will be cheaper than ready-mix. Like powders vs capsules. They make you pay for convenience!
I've been using rosemary oil way before the youtube hype. It is my opinion that it does work. The only drawback for me was that it irritated my hands, not my scalp. I'm continuing to use it, just more carefully, using a scalp brush rather than my hands.
I just LOVE how you break down all of the research and answer all of the relevant questions so we don’t have to. I also appreciate your honesty and opinions. I LOVE your channel!
Ive been using only rosemary oil for my bald spots on frontal scalp or how is it called when you have no hair on the sides above forehead, and finally hair has grown and it's only getting longer. Thankfully now I don't have to think about it when switching my hair from one side to the other.
Great info, however being a doctor myself, I’d rather use natural sources without any side effects. Can’t imagine using Antihypertensives like Minoxidil or diuretics like Spironolactone, or even a hormone like Melatonin with all the associated side effects just for hair growth (and getting several other problems instead) when there’re studies proving positive effects of rosemary oil or water on hair growth.
Your opinion is very ignorant! "....just for hair growth ". !!! And if you are a doctor like you saying you have no compassion for people's illness! Do you know how is to look in the mirror every day and see your hair disappearing? Is like you dying every day! 😢 And yes, if Minoxidil or Spironolactone will stop the loss of hair or regrow it, I would take them. Thank you.

@@NEO_RKXi remember when my aunt went to dermatologist at the most famous place in my country, so after a lot of treatments she had, her skin is getting worse 😂
Çould not agree more. I definitely do not have a luxurious mane of hair. Oh I wish I did! But I would never use medications with side effects to achieve hair growth. There must be something natural to fix this worldwide problem. I am for that!
All you coming for maryamramay7785 in the comments … a literal medical professional is telling you they wouldn't, personally, use these drugs because of the negative health risks the side-effects pose (hormones ESPECIALLY!). That’s like a car salesman telling you he wouldn’t buy a car from his dealership because most of them are lemons. So, really, the ignorance lies with you, not maryamramay7785. Nothing they said is untrue, it's just not what you want to hear. I'd argue that's as compassionate as one can GET because they’re giving you free medical information NO ONE else has the INCENTIVE to give you - not Google, certainly not hair loss product companies, not even your dermatologist. It’s a FACT there are potential side effects. It’s also a FACT that these drugs have NOT been studied long enough to truly conclude that their effects on your overall health won’t be negative long-term. That kind of science takes time - the one thing desperate consumers have 0 of and everyone else is happy to take advantage of that. I was lucky enough to recover from a life-threatening illness and now, years later, I am experiencing significant hair loss, so trust me, I understand your pain VERY clearly with every shower. Being on the other side of that illness, though, I can definitively say what's more valuable to me and it’s not the hair. That’s not to invalidate your struggle because I have the same one, but I wouldn’t call an unsolicited honest opinion from an expert ignorant, you're mad at the wrong person/thing.
Please consider doing a video on hyperparathyroidism and hair loss. I am in my late thirties, have an elevated serum calcium and normal PTH (does not decrease in the presence of an elevated calcium level). No adenomas were found on an ultrasound. In the last two months, I have lost more than half my hair, with the majority seeming (seeming) to be within the last three weeks. Very depressing.
My hairdresser said cedarwood oil for hair growth, I'd never heard of that. I do take Melatonin 10mg dissolvable at night to help me sleep. I have seen a lot of growth around my hairline, but whether it's just my natural cycle who knows.
@@barbcoleus Agree. I've seen 3 different. They run you through like cattle. No discussion at all. No asking about any concerns. Treatment, if necessary, and then out the door. That's why I follow so many on YT and TikTok.
It may be best to always test a section on your arm for sensitivity prior to use of any of the products you may use on the scalp. I have paid for an ALCAT test so I now know my sensitivity to over 474 items of foods, herbs, additives, molds and antibiotic to name a few. The higher the sensitivity to an item the more inflammation in the body which also can affect the hair follicles. Stress management is also a plus.
About nine years ago my vet recommended melatonin for my 60 pound very short-haired dog that was getting bare spots. I use a 3 mg tablet daily in her food. It works
I have always had beautiful dark thick hair. Right now it’s to the middle of my back but I found a totally bald, smooth area the size of a lemon last night, in the middle of the back of my hair. I don’t know how I didn’t notice it because it’s rather large. I guess because my hair is so thick. I’m scared and made an appointment for Tuesday with my doctor but I made this comment to let everyone know that I have been taking melatonin orally for years to help me sleep and yet I still found a very large totally bald spot on my head. I do take a high dose of melatonin nightly 20mg and sometimes too much of something can make it bad but I been taking it for over four years and just now have a big bald spot. It could maybe only work for hair growth when it’s applied topically or for certain conditions.
She states that melatonin is taken for AGA. What you are decribing is not AGA, it is almost certainly Alopecia Areata. My sister has it and it is immune related.
I’ve improved hair density and fallout by using a soft water filter and massaging my head with Rosemary Oil. I used to plug up the drain with a fat squishy sponge of hair at the end of shower, now to just a few strands at most.
Dr. Dray, thank you for the video. Can you make more hair-related content such as, for example, preventive action before showing signs of alopecia if you're genetically prone to it? Also, if any more studies show up on a specific topical melatonin or even oral melatonin, please keep us updated. Best regards and thank you for your time.
I don’t know about hair loss but I know how to prevent premature hair graying. You should take magnesium supplements. Most of people are deficient in it, since it is very hard to get it form diet. One symptom of magnesium deficiency is grey hair. I got 8 grey hairs when I was severely deficient at age 23. Abut hair loss if it is androgenic alopecia, then you should reduce sugar and breads/pasta, starch turns into sugar when consumed. High sugar diets cause higher male type hormones - androgens in woman’s body. A good way to reduce sugar absorption from diet, is eating food in this order: Vegetables -> protein and fats -> carbs -> fruit/ sugars Also eat fiber before every meal. Like a carrot.
@@tweetygirl0123 magnesium citrate is the best absorbable form of magnesium. I can’t recommend any brand since I am certain we life in different countries
if youre male, finasteride oral pills will prevent further hair loss, and minoxodil topical foam will help revive any hair follicles still just clinging to life. fully dead follicles will never come back to life, as theyve fallen out, so there's nothing there to revive. in this case, the only option is hair implants. hair implants can be risky however, therefore its important to go to a skilled more expensive and educated doctor for it. cheaper procedures in other countries for example, will do a much too extensive surgery and use far too many follicles, and exhaust your limited supply of doner follicles.
@@gab1888 thank you! I am in the US. 24 and have about 10 or so white hairs and am trying to prevent further if possible . Thank you the tip, I will definitely be getting some!
I have purchased liquid melatonin on Amazon after watching videos citing research that it improves gray hair. I can definitely say it helped me sleep better to massage it on my head before bed. However, I only bought one bottle so I don’t think I used it long enough to see a difference. I think I would have to buy several bottles to try it over a long period and I just don’t shop on Amazon that often
Didn’t have my glasses on. Thought you were eating a chocolate bar !!!! Lol. You look even more professional with your mini mic ! Everyone loves your super character, knowledge, sense of humor and quirkiness ( a.k.a. those cool dance moves ). Lol 👍🏼❤️
I saw a dermatologist and got a hair biopsy and blood tests. Turns out I have androgenic alopecia or female pattern hair loss. But I wasn't willing to take internal hormone regulators or get on the contraceptive pill. If its internal it's a no go for me. No messing with hormones and getting mood swings, weight gain, anxiety and all sorts. I tried minoxidil for a while. I dropped it as it would only work for as long as I used it and it's costly. Back to drawing board it was. I ended up creating a hair oil mix of drops of saw palmetto tincture a drop of rosemary essential oil to a pumpkin seed oil base, and applied it twice weekly for an hour. I saw minimal results after having used it for 4 years. That said, I haven't seen new hair loss or further miniaturing ever since. A month ago I bought an electric scalp massager. Used that couple of times a week and my scalp is full of what feels like stubble. Too soon to tell bit I'm surprised massaging has had a positive effect on new hair growth.
@@adk4419 I've had good results, lots of new growth just by using the shampoo brush-type massager. I take two of them (Very firm ones), press down somewhat hard* and push them together for a pinching effect, and also push them in opposite directions to stretch the scalp. The scalp must be loosened to allow the blood to circulate freely (the opposite effect of "white knuckles"). And the massage action obviously brings blood to the scalp. Aim for twice a day, 3-5 minutes each, every day. It's part of my routine in the morning. I"m trying to remember to do it at night too. But my hair's growing faster than ever, and a Lot of hair about three inches long, (they are not just "baby hairs" that only grow a half inch then fall out) which corresponds to about how long I've been doing this, about 8 months. Maybe longer, not sure. But I know my hair used to grow Much slower. Seemed like 2 inches a year lol. I press hard to Move the scalp instead of pulling my hair. I Don't use the shampoo brushes to shampoo my hair either. Seems like when my scalp is soaked the hair pulls out easier. I also part my hair so most of it goes with the growth pattern. I find combing it the other way also pulls hair out.
Would also like to know which scalp massager was used. Oils made more of my hair fall out, maybe left on too long but could be cause I already have a greasy scalp, so Im trying homemade rosemary water but its turning my blonde hair more orange and have yet to see results after a month or so. Cant find topical melatonin for hair anywhere.
Honestly rosemary water worked amazing for me , I lost my hair at my temples and after a month of using the rosemary water I had dark hair growth and it got thicker . My only issue was I felt pretty itchy when I was using it , it is high salyicates
@@ikram8126 If you haven’t given up on it completely, try diluting it with distilled water in a 1:2 ratio and using an applicator bottle to apply it directly to your scalp only.
omg i thought i was the only one who thought that it was pretty itchy! however i usually am more prone to get an itchy scalp also because most people here on youtube rarely mention them experiencing any type of itch i really didnt think much of it tbh. So thank you for saying this cause the itch was unbearable
I totally understand what your saying here, my only response would be is. Just because there isnt much research doesnt mean it wont or isnt working for many people. It is definitely risky to go trying things willy nilly. More research has to be done of course to determine the effectiveness of certain ingredients or products and in certain conditions or needs.
Thank you for this video. With limited success (but great potential), I used onion juice to regrow and thicken my hair, plus return some grey hair to their original color while red onions were in season; months later I tried rosemary oil. After using rosemary oil for a couple weeks, I can feel fine, little hairs growing on my crown (which previously was as bare as my eyeball) and color returned to what little grey I had left. I recently found this video, so I'm going to try topical melatonin when the rosemary oil runs out. My sister experienced wonderful results with a shampoo called 'Mane & Tail,' a product used for grooming horses that's not available where I live. I'm not interested in minoxidil, because all the new hair that grew due to the product's use is lost when treatment is stopped. Like anabolic steroids, you have to keep using the product to maintain any gains. You and your work are appreciated!
The heading of this article says "This beats Rosemary oil..." yet towards the end it is mentioned more studies need to be done. It is also mentioned that the best measure is to seek a dermatologist. Perhaps it would be better to have the heading say POSSIBLY better. Or to put a question mark at the end like "This beats Rosemary oil?" The way the heading is phrased makes it sound like it is pretty much a sure bet. Just a suggestion.
As PT Barnam said a hundred years ago: “one born every minute“. From butt ‘deodorant’ to “the most fabulous bra” to “I am Obsessed with this whatever”, social media is playing us for fools & we just fall in line. That’s why we have Dr. Dray to keep us educated with actual legitimate research and information so we stop wasting time & money. Thanks Doc!!
This is completely anecdotal, but I've been using rosemary oil on my scalp where my hairline is and there's a ton of new hairs growing in. However, I'm also doing oral vitamins, pumpkin seed oil, and a pre-poo salicylic acid treatment so it could be any of these things.
One thing that helps my hair loss is adding organic rosemary in my shampoo. I buy the organic plant and snip pieces off and add them to the bottle. When I wash my hair, I made sure to massage using my fingertips, not nail, I also let it sit for about 2 minutes before rinsing. The shampoo and conditioner that I use is Briogeo destined for density shampoo. Once a week, I also use Nizoral AD shampoo and leave that on my scalp for 3- 5 minutes. Please do not oils on your scalp as it can cause scalp conditions such as SD ext.
Oils such as squalane and MCT will not cause SD, and are perfectly fine as carrier oils for rosemary essential oil. A reminder to everyone to take suggestions with a grain of salt and do your own research. Lots of misinformation being spread.
Very cool. I anticipate seeing melatonin shampoos and conditioners in the future! I could see if pairing nicely with any shampooo, but Specifically volumizing ones. Hopefully it doesn’t increase hair growth on my face or body though. Thank you dr dray
Rosemary water, rosemary oil Natural beauty biotin serum have been used for decades in Greece. My primary care doctor told me oral melatonin is used for sleep. I was using rosemary water and rosemary oil and my hair is now growing back. I also used natural beauty biotin serum twice daily and have been using it for two months and I am seeing hair growth. I have auto immune issues with rhematoid arthritis and needed to get away from chemicals, I also had my thyroid checked which was part of the problem.

I have a topical melatonin scalp serum from Advanced Trichology just sitting on my shelf. I should give it a go. I have AGA. Minoxidil worked but it gave me vertigo. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the content. I have androgenic alopecia and am currently using minoxidil and spironolactone. Any research on combining it with melatonin? Any boost in efficacy or contraindications that we should be aware of? In a previous video, you mentioned that tretinoin could be combined with minoxidil.
I take Spiro and it does not work for my hair loss. Though I don't take it for hair loss I take it for a severe fluid imbalance and still doesn't help my hair loss
I knew about this about 2 years ago. I tried topical melatonin on my scalp but it made me sooo sleepy and it lasted for days sadly I couldn't do it more than 2days in a row ugh
I was experiencing a combination of androgenic alopecia as well as Telogen effluvium post Covid. I initially started with rosemary oil but noticed the fallout stage rapidly increasing & more prominent thinning. I then opted for 5% minoxidil layering on some 0.25% tret gel first followed by the minoxidil & have had great hair growth success in iust 4 months & will continue with this routine perhaps dropping it to a few times a week as opposed to every day in about another 4 months or so. One thing I wasn't expecting was hair growth in unwanted places. Due to the majority of my thinning being my temples & hairline some of the minoxidil solution I applied to those areas discreetly seeped down along my face where it meets my ears. I discovered not only did I grow blonde sideburns but my ear lobes grew what looked to be a blonde beard. I couldn't believe it! So a word of warning to be more vigilant when using minoxidil because it's quite effective!
Use a headband around your forehead and neck and a face mask to stop any drips. Clean the skin after the application. Also wash the hair with your head down at least for the first wash. I've been using Minoxidil for about 3 years now and have no complains.
I love massaging a Rosemary Oil on my hairline every night. Helps with stimulation and dryness. I have noticed some growth. I love the smell. The process is soothing for me. I will try melatonin as well.
Hi Dr Dray, would you consider making a video about chronic elogen efflevium or alopecia arreata incognita? I went through massive hair loss 8 years ago and my hair never went back to "normal" after that. While the increased shedding has stopped, my hair is still very sparse and new hair grows thin and weak. It's not due to mineral or vitamin deficincies because I've done many blood tests and everything seems okay. I visited a trychologist recently and they suspect it's either AAI or CTE.
I would ask for a full thyroid panel to be done, you may have an underactive thyroid and this can really affect your hair growth especially after stressful periods in our lives. Blood tests for minerals and vitamins will not show this as it is a specific test.
i learned about Dr. Dray from reddit memes, but these days it seems to me her content are truly one of the most informative and non-biased it's just so nice..?
Minoxidil did work for me but it costs so much, you can’t miss a day of it, and if I didn’t apply carefully it could leave the top of my hair crunchy. So I’m looking for alternatives
Great points! My derm is following me closely as she tries a handful of options, on my end. I do research on led/ red light affordable bands, and supplements . It is a relief I can give my dr my concerns that overwhelmed me. Thx and hi to tybee and your mom.
Hey Dr. Dray, I was wondering whether or not it's true that rinsing with cold water closes the hair cuticles and helps with shine and moisture retention, could you address that?
As a licensed cosmetologist.... Your answer is yes, shampoo with warm opens hair follicle & condition/ rinse with cool water closes them. By closing the hair follicle your trapping in the moisture.
Can you review 'Activance'? I haven't heard much about it but I've used it in the past and found it incredibly effective. It claims rhodanide is its main ingredient that boosts hair growth. Could you please shed some light on this?
Can you recommended a brand for this? I've been diagnosed with adrogenetic alopecia and I tryed prp and have suffered shock hair loss and I'm distraught as my hair was just thinning, not balding.. apparnelty I've either had severe shock loss which is abnormal, or I'm the 1 per cent of people who has had their hair loss triggered :( Ive been advised to try oral minoxidle by my derm but I'm not sure about it. Would this help? Please recommend a brand. Tempted to get the irestore as well if you think it could help? Can it regrow the bald bits , please help I'm desperate x
All the topical melatonin I am finding is flavored which leads me to believe it may be sticky. I didn't catch a recommendation during the video and there's nothing in the description box. Can you tell me what I should be searching for to find one made for hair?
Only if you, say, suffered hair loss, can you re-thicken your hair. Your hair, as is, in great condition, is as thick as it gets. Your amount of follicles is determined at birth. You can't add on to that. So don't believe the "miracles" people are trying to sell.
Rosemary is working amazingly for mine .. rather than minimising it’s very clear result on me and my Partner. I’m more open to adding more to my treatments. Good to know from that perspective, there’s another :)
This is fascinating, I have hair loss due to Histamine issues that are Long Covid related, I've had better results using anti-histamine herbs on my scalp (Arginine has helped as well, Revlon used to make a product with this amino in it but has discontinued it) and skin for rashes. I also have scalp psoriasis around my hairline and rosemary irritated this somewhat so I will try melatonin with my next batch of home made hair stuff (I'm allergic to many chemicals in commercial OTC products) soon.
So doc what is the best treatment for people who've undergone chemo? Especially younger adults people (26 is my age rn, 23 was when I went thru)? My derm said prp but I just wanted to confirm if there are better things I could search for that aren't available in my country
Hi, is there a chance of content on scalp pain? very hard to find information on this, I mean the painful scalp with no apparent reason, no tight hairstyles, but just raw pain when even just touching your hair......have you treated anyone with these kinds of problems? thank you
I really want to try this but have no idea which topical to purchase. I’m 41 and first started losing hair around my temples and hairline after each of my 3 pregnancies and has gotten worse with age. I have dark hair so it’s quite noticeable against a white scalp. I’ve been using Minoxidil for years and it really hasn’t helped. Any suggestions for topical melatonin?
Hey I had the same issue, there is a brand called Avimee in India. I started using there product and my hair is growing gradually. I’ve been using it for just couple of months and my scalp became healthier and my hair became ticker. It’s not an ad, just go and check, it’s amazing!
Okay melatonin MAY work was what you said. Maybe true but I don't do trends. I stick to what I know works. Rosemary works. I used to cry about my thinning hair but after months of using it along with hibiscus flower and peppermint, sage in sunflower oil my hair is fuller and doesn't break off when I brush it. It's truly younger and darker. Also found that oregano and thyme help with growth and color loss as well as sage. Please don't talk down about something many real people have had success with. Now their happy tears. You can't convince me it doesn't work.
I’ve been experiencing hair loss associated with psoriasis and probably affected also by aging. My derm recommended Ducray products. I really like the shampoo and the oil spray, but I refuse to take the biotin pills. I would love it if you ever review Ducray because I see they have other products in their lineup for other issues as well as other hair loss treatments.
I know this has nothing to do with hair loss but I’ve been using T/Gel by Neutrogena for dandruff and it has gotten rid of almost all my dandruff and some of the itching that goes along with it My hair is so soft and it shows I love Neutrogena
@@eeaotly oh I did not know that was a thing I guess it would have to be quite bad if dandruff made u lose hair but I’m assuming any amount can make u lose hair
Why refuse to take the biotin? It's very very effective for hair, skin and nails. I agree my mom on biotin when she went through chemo and was anemic. She couldn't believe the hair growth she had.
Heck yeah! I never knew this about melatonin! It needs to be the liquid form and applied topically? Cool. I use Mielle right now. I'm too scared of that probable major hair shedding phase to try minoxidil. I also want to try copper peptide serum.
Thank you for your excellent content. I have AA and have already lost quite a bit of densisty. What kind of liquid melatonin should a person buy? I see many liquid versions online but given they come in flavours, I'm guessing that they are intended for oral use not topical. I don't know how to find the type used in this research.
I've been using a mixed rosemary oil for bald spots I've always had on my hairline. I think it's working? But I can't tell for what reason, thus I can't recommend this to other people with confidence
woo great info. Can you perhaps do one for scalp care during and regrowth after CHEMO!! I just lost my hair due to chemo and I am struggling to find valid info on what I can be doing to keep my scalp healthy during this process and also things to invest in once chemo has ended and I then focus on hair growth. Same for eyebrows and lashes. THANKS
Lucky you, I lost a lot of hair with that serum.
I love TO’s Hair Serum. Just picked up my second bottle yesterday since i’m getting low. I don’t massage for too long tbh and I’ve seen growth
I have had major luck with the Caffeine Eye serum with EGCG. First time my hair has grown back at all since the virus 3 years ago. Recommend it highly.
@@traceytrotter9934 Hi, Tracey. Do you use the Caffeine Eye Serum on your scalp, brows or lashes? I'm intrigued.
Dude ! Dr dray ! See what you wrote
Good for you it's soo hard and takes so long such an uphill battle at least you're seeing improvement
Dr there is a ton of data on Rosemary oil all over the net please ck again
Someone needs to do a study comparing massaging your scalp with an oil, versus massaging without oil.
From personal experience, I saw great hair growth and density results from just massaging my scalp with my fingers nightly for 5mins, no oils applied. I have a theory that massaging scalp helps with blood circulation, especially when you wear tight buns/ponytails.
Exactly what I was thinking about. How much is related to just bringing more blood to the hair root?
Yes I have seen videos from other UA-camrs on this topic. Can’t recall his name but he did research on it. He recommended “pinching” the scalp using both hands (not painfully). It’s a type of myofacial release.
I really would want to try it, but when my scalp gets a massage it equals to oily greasy hair.. so I massage my scalp under the shower when it needs to be washed anyway
It possibly does, but there's also the side that massaging the scalp with oil will improve circulation a step up from without because of the warmth it traps. I've even heard at least one cosmetic formulater saying to avoid using pure oil during the day since it can cause too much heat or possibly burn the skin, especially in sunlight ~In my religion there's a practice of massaging with oil so I'm going to be enjoying it either way~ 😅
Very good and very logical point!
Do you apply everyday?
@lindaboniita, do you use it as a rosemary water or rosemary oil? how long did it take?
did u have aga though? many women say this but they mostly have telogen effluvium, not aga.
Rosemary oil works must be organic and buy your local organic store
Also make sure to vitamin check yourself and take the missing vitamins specially Zin and D3 with K2.
I usually take 1 tablet of Vegan Multivan and 1 D3 with K2
I also use the microneedling pen once a month 0.75
This helps if you are start loosing or receding.

It’s a lot of videos of women with straight hair that experienced hair loss from mielle.

Were you using the Rosemary oil and caffeine topically
interesting...try rubbing beet root into your scalp to lower your blood pressure (not medical advice - anecdotal academic discussion)...might just grow you a giant crop of beet red hair
Seriously? Thanks for that tip. I have chronic BP (seems drug resistant). Just read / heard that maybe increase potassium (e.g. citrate) to counter the sodium.

I would like to see a review on amla (powder or oil) and also hibiscus (anti-androgen acivity) for hair growth.
What's the Japanese product?
Melatonin pills, or??
Do tell what this Japanese lotion is, please.
People were using rosemary oil in their hair LONG before studies were done! But I guess there isn't tons of money to be made from people making their own rosemary hair oil🤔

Research can sometimes be driven by politics and business. If large studies were done and came to conclusion that this certain oil works then there goes minoxidil and all those interventions.

You can use a gloves
These "Single use" latex gloves from the drugstore can be reused for weeks. Just wash them with Hand soap, remove them carefully and let them dry.

A good way to reduce sugar absorption from diet, is eating food in this order:
Vegetables -> protein and fats -> carbs -> fruit/ sugars
Also eat fiber before every meal. Like a carrot.

if youre male, finasteride oral pills will prevent further hair loss, and minoxodil topical foam will help revive any hair follicles still just clinging to life. fully dead follicles will never come back to life, as theyve fallen out, so there's nothing there to revive. in this case, the only option is hair implants. hair implants can be risky however, therefore its important to go to a skilled more expensive and educated doctor for it. cheaper procedures in other countries for example, will do a much too extensive surgery and use far too many follicles, and exhaust your limited supply of doner follicles.

@@adk4419 I've had good results, lots of new growth just by using the shampoo brush-type massager.
Please let us know the massage tool. Thank you 😊
Would also like to know which scalp massager was used. This is completely anecdotal, but I've been using rosemary oil on my scalp where my hairline is and there's a ton of new hairs growing in. However, I'm also doing oral vitamins, pumpkin seed oil, and a pre-poo salicylic acid treatment so it could be any of these things.
what do you use/ do for pre poo SA?
I would also like to know the name of the SA pre poo.
Can you give the link for pumpkin seed oil.TIA.
@@silviarahim90 The Inky List has a good salicylic pre-wash
Sorry I’m late to the show but what does the pre poo salicylic acid do for your hair?
I'm so happy you made this video. Let's all demand Melatonin serum for hair.
Where shall we gather with pitchforks? I’m totally down 😂😂😂
Not gonna work she is promoting for no reason may be she is getting commission 😊
Am black my scalp and skin and hair thrive with oil
In India we always oil our hair and don't have issues! We have beautiful long hair!
Hi there! Hope you're doing well. Totally not related to the video but, I have been following you and your videos for about 3 years (I think) and just noticed that you're up to 1.8 million subscribers. Holy cow - that's amazing! Congratulations! Thank you for all of your educational, helpful, and entertaining videos. You've helped me so much throughout the years!
thank you!
Dr. Dray is pretty much the only one I trust out here. She works really hard to produce quality videos, recommends products that don't kill our wallets, and basically cuts through the marketing and "influencer" nonsense - people who change products as soon as they get another sponsorship.
@@MC-fw5vtYES YES YES ALL THE WAY 100% YES I had this AWFUL acne when I first found her channel in 2018 and I have the most precious skin now all thanks to her. She made me throwaway all these bs high end fragranced products and taught me how to read the labels on products that produce ACTUAL results. I wouldn’t trade this lady’s knowledge for the world. She brought back my confidence, debunked the beauty world to save my wallet and gave me so much information. Dr. Dray is where it’s at for me ❤
I've recently seen being I am taking stinging nettle it is used for hair regrowth with success and has many other benefits. Very high in anti-inflammatory properties!
@Su Ki it's in a soft gel form but with a few other things! Not taking it for hair my head is a goner in that department!
Curious if this would benefit Rheumatoid Arthritis patients who have hair loss?
I vote Uncle Charlie be the honorary test monkey for all hair regrowth treatments and serums. When Uncle Charlie looks like Weird Al, I’ll consider buying it 😂
I love that Dr.Dray gives her thoughts based on evidence based research. Love Dr. Dray, she is the truth.
I have same question. Thanks!
Same question
Clove water actually regrew my bald spot more than any of these and rapidly too!
I take Spiro and it does not work for my hair loss. Though I don't take it for hair loss I take it for a severe fluid imbalance and still doesn't help my hair loss
Any side effecrs with the spiro? Im thinking of taking it. Dont wqnt to take minoxidil
I knew about this about 2 years ago. I tried topical melatonin on my scalp but it made me sooo sleepy and it lasted for days sadly I couldn't do it more than 2days in a row ugh
Where do you find topical melatonin? is it safe to use a liquid oral melatonin on your hair and scalp?
Advanced trichology
Ok doctor but what serum does it has melatonin? Thanks 🙏
Mel could you share in which order do you use each products please
Yes! What was your routine?
That's gross.
It is recommended that women not use the Minoxidil 5% due to the risk of facial hair. The Minoxidil 2% is for use by women.
If melatonin works so well, why not take tablets and dissolve in water and apply to scalp? Just wondering. Thank you, Dr. Dray.
@@janellevercoe2763 yes, please make the test by a doc, I have the same issue and now I got medies and it seems to work for my hair. Slowly for sure.
i learned about Dr. Dray from reddit memes, but these days it seems to me her content are truly one of the most informative and non-biased
it's just so nice..?
Minoxidil did work for me but it costs so much, you can’t miss a day of it, and if I didn’t apply carefully it could leave the top of my hair crunchy.
So I’m looking for alternatives
Great points! My derm is following me closely as she tries a handful of options, on my end. I do research on led/ red light affordable bands, and supplements . It is a relief I can give my dr my concerns that overwhelmed me. Thx and hi to tybee and your mom.

Hey Dr. Dray,
I was wondering whether or not it's true that rinsing with cold water closes the hair cuticles and helps with shine and moisture retention, could you address that?
As a licensed cosmetologist.... Your answer is yes, shampoo with warm opens hair follicle & condition/ rinse with cool water closes them. By closing the hair follicle your trapping in the moisture.
Can you advise me on what brands of topical melatonin to purchase? I noticed you did not mention that.
What are your thoughts on using minoxidil along with rosemary oil and also the topical melatonin? Would that be overdosing in a way?
Can you review 'Activance'? I haven't heard much about it but I've used it in the past and found it incredibly effective. It claims rhodanide is its main ingredient that boosts hair growth. Could you please shed some light on this?
Hi Dr Dray, I have lupus and I know that oral melatonin is not recommended for me. Is the same true of topical?
Dr. Dray, have you used melatonin for hair loss? Have you done anything different to your hair. It looks fuller
Can you recommended a brand for this? I've been diagnosed with adrogenetic alopecia and I tryed prp and have suffered shock hair loss and I'm distraught as my hair was just thinning, not balding.. apparnelty I've either had severe shock loss which is abnormal, or I'm the 1 per cent of people who has had their hair loss triggered :(
Ive been advised to try oral minoxidle by my derm but I'm not sure about it.
Thank you for more haircare videos! Could you drop a recommended routine for growth/thickening in mind?
So many ingredients out there 😭
She's probably covered this. I'd check her hair playlist for videos.
Only if you, say, suffered hair loss, can you re-thicken your hair. Your hair, as is, in great condition, is as thick as it gets. Your amount of follicles is determined at birth. You can't add on to that. So don't believe the "miracles" people are trying to sell.
...any idea from where that melatonin is coming ?...is it chemical or animal derived ?...thanks
Rosemary is working amazingly for mine .. rather than minimising it’s very clear result on me and my Partner. I’m more open to adding more to my treatments. Good to know from that perspective, there’s another :)
What is the recipe? Do u use oil and whats your routine? Or rosemary water? Whats your routine? Thanks
Thanks so much for this video! Can we use it along with Minoxidil?
This is fascinating, I have hair loss due to Histamine issues that are Long Covid related, I've had better results using anti-histamine herbs on my scalp (Arginine has helped as well, Revlon used to make a product with this amino in it but has discontinued it) and skin for rashes. I also have scalp psoriasis around my hairline and rosemary irritated this somewhat so I will try melatonin with my next batch of home made hair stuff (I'm allergic to many chemicals in commercial OTC products) soon.
Is there any evidence that topical melatonin might work for frontal fibrosing alopecia? And can this be used in conjunction with topical minoxidil?
Rosemary oil has grown my hair a lot❤❤❤
Same, like a weed!
Lady, the best remedy for hair regrowth would be Finasteride, but definitelly not the Minoxidil.
I know this has nothing to do with hair loss but I’ve been using T/Gel by Neutrogena for dandruff and it has gotten rid of almost all my dandruff and some of the itching that goes along with it
My hair is so soft and it shows
I love Neutrogena
@@jakecorshia Well, some people do lose their hair due to dandruff.
@@rebeccatrono3376 it messes with bloodwork. I believe dr dray said the benefits of biotin can be overstated. I could be wrong though
Heck yeah! I never knew this about melatonin! It needs to be the liquid form and applied topically? Cool. I use Mielle right now. I'm too scared of that probable major hair shedding phase to try minoxidil. I also want to try copper peptide serum.
What hair products has melatonin, where can I fund topical melatonin
How do we find a good topical melatonin? Ive tried one with alcohol and it seems to make the hair loss worse
Happy Tuesday Dr. Dray🌸and to everyone watching😊 have a wonderful day!
Happy Tuesday
what topical melatonin do you recommend
U did not need that mic lol ur audio has always been fine
Thank you for your excellent content. I have AA and have already lost quite a bit of densisty. What kind of liquid melatonin should a person buy? I see many liquid versions online but given they come in flavours, I'm guessing that they are intended for oral use not topical.
I don't know how to find the type used in this research.
I've been using a mixed rosemary oil for bald spots I've always had on my hairline. I think it's working? But I can't tell for what reason, thus I can't recommend this to other people with confidence
What topical melatonin do you recommend please?
woo great info. THANKS
Check out DMSO 1 teaspoon per day .
Great for hair cancer
Inflammation etc.
Hi! Any thoughts about the Neogenesis hair serum? I’ve heard great things, but it’s very $$$…would love any feedback, thank you !
