I also added rosemary oil & water treatments to my routine. I would say the combination of the rosemary oil & water along with the pumpkin seed oil has worked well for me! I believe it was CVS that carried an oil that was a castor and rosemary mix. I wish I could recall the brand. I would just double check the ingredients for purity and go with one from a store like that. Try the arnica. ❤
Thank you for saying that more studies are needed for rosemary oil. It's blown up on social media/haircare products after ONE study with a small sample size in ONE type of hair loss using a very specific dose
I looked into the pumpkin seed oil. The study used a particular brand of Korean supplement, Octa Sabal Plus, that uses not only pumpkin seed oil (23-28%) but a variety of ingredients, so it's hard to say if pure pumpkin seed oil would give the same results. Octacosanol Soybean extract (19-24%) Mixed vegetable powder (20-25%) Evening primrose powder (23-28%) Corn silk extract (0.04 - 0.1%) Red clover powder Tomato powder
@@Make_AWish well that's some conflict of interest. I mean we don't lose anything trying. Pumpkin seed oil is not as expensive as actual hair loss treatments, but for sure this detail makes me feel less inclined to trust tjr the phenomenal result...
I found this online regarding the Pumpkin seed study (Re Octa Saba Plus) and it seems scary - at least for men - if I’m reading this right… “Product Information Explosive increase of prostate cancer Explosive increase of prostate since year 1995. Stomach cancer(24.0%) Lung cancer(16.0%) Liver cancer(15.4%) Colorectal cancer(11.6%) Bladder cancer(3.2%) Prostate cancer(3%) Reported by Ministry of health & wellfare of Korea "Report 2002, Cancer registration program" Prostate cancer has been drastically increased by 211% between year 1995 & 2002 Prostate cancer ranked Top in August, 2008 Prostate is? Dr Dray doesn’t mention that the Pumpkin Seed Oil Trial was done with a Korean brand called OctaSabel Plus. A $600+ supplement that contains several other ingredients: One capsule of Octa-Sabal Plus contains 100mg of pumpkin seed powder - not oil. Additionally, contains a proprietary blend of: Octacosanols (derived from vegetable powder) Gamma linolenic acid (derived from evening prim rose powder) Polyphenols (derived from red clover powder) Lycopene (derived from tomato powder) Corn silk extract (from corn silk powder) These ingredients aren’t just fillers. Just like pumpkin seed oil, they target the myriad triggers of pattern hair loss. So if your wondering why your pumpkin seen oil you purchased over the counter at GNC didn’t work, it is probably because it doesn’t contain these other additional ingredients. The study doesn’t mention how these other ingredients could have influenced the results
Teatree oil is extremely drying..and will cause irritation to some people is used directly on the skin..but is a good antibacterial for infections early on. Coconut oil is good as a treatment for hair moisture..leave in for 1 hour after washing. Great information thank you..
I make my own hair oils by infusing herbs into olive oil for a month or more, and then I dilute rosemary oil to 3-5% and applied to scalp twice a week. I’ve noticed that my hair became overall better, and grew more in quantity.
for me.. black castor oil and i put rosemary tea on my hair!! it really helps. i’d say.. mainly diet helps your hair. eat clean.. lots of fish.. spinach, drink lots of water etc.
Pumpkin seed oil is delicious to use in a honey vinagrette salad dressing, instead of using olive oil. It adds new dimension to the taste. It is quite pricey, but you only need a tiny amount though, as it make you very "regular"! Once it is opened it needs to be stored in the refrigerator, to maintain nutritional benefits. It is not to be heated, or used in cooking. Pumpkin seed oil is an intense green colour. I buy mine in an Indian grocers. 👱♀️❤
@@DrDrayzday Ive never started Finasteride dosing bc of the libido side-effect fear, but Ive racked my brain to try & understand why/how it could happen. My understanding (which could be wrong) is that mens libido can deteriorate as we get older bc our estrogen levels rise, which in turn lower our testosterone levels, thereby lowering our sex drive. BUT, if the MOA behind Finasteride is to block the conversion of our testosterone to DHT (which stunts the hair growth in the follicle), wouldnt that mean we have more testosterone in our systems and thereby less estrogen? If there is less T being converted to DHT, then we should have more T in our bodies, thereby less estrogen & more sex drive. No?
Dr. Dray, you are the only youtuber i trust! anytime i ever have a question about my hair/skin etc. i always search for a video of yours, because you always answer every question i have!
Omg I needed this so bad! Have been struggling with hairloss because of COVID and thankfully the worst is over after some treatment I did doing my own ~research, this so appreciated!!
I’m still struggling with it. The hair loss slowed down significantly after I got the vaccine, but it only lasted about 3/4 months and now it’s back to falling out a lot again. I feel silly being so upset about it, but I always had such thick hair and seeing so much of it fall out makes me cry. I also hate my ears (they stick out) but my thick hair always covered them, but now I’m finding that my ears with poke through my hair now. 😩😩😩😢😢😢
I started drinking juice from Indian gooseberry by mixing it with juice from aloe vera two times daily. Regularly trimming the hair also helps. Take care of your lifestyle. Use liitleextraa cocooionn hydrating shampoo and hair oil as both are known good for hair fall control. If you do this every day, you will results in just a few weeks.
This liitllextra coocconion hair oil has transformed the way I care for my hair. This product features a great herbs. The scent indicates it contains key ingredients like coconut, onion, rosemary, fenugreek. What's really great about this product is that it has significantly reduced my hairfall and now my hair is thicker than ever. This hairoil is a must have.
On my mom's side of the family, many of the women lost their hair. I am now 55 and started having hair thinning in my mid/late 20s, but now it's much worse due to menopause. I do have too much androstenedione (male hormone). I know some don't like having to put stuff on your scalp, but I started using 8 drops of rosemary essential oil mixed with a little olive oil (the EVOO is a "carrier oil") every night on April 20, 2022. Rosemary oil has been studied and is as effective, without the side effects, as Minoxidil. I put a thin plastic shower cap over my oiled head at night. Anyway, I was looking at my scalp this morning, and I have tons of little baby hairs coming in where my temples have lost a lot of hair and all along the front of my hairline. I think it's working! They say it takes 6 months to really be able to see good new growth, but I have a glimmer of hope.
How is it going now? I use rosemary mint and clove oils in flax seed carrier. Seems to help with hair not falling out as much. Also great for itchy scalp
@@jingwills6267 in stores or websites that sell health products. Some big chain stores also sell them, I know I've seen oils at Meijer. Even the lower price brand works well for me, I use Now Foods.
Yay! I have been using rosemary oil and coconut oil. My hair is damaged and has breakage. Glad to hear that I’m doing some thing at least a little helpful
For me personally, coconut oil helps in frizziness and makes hair soft. Castor oil is thick, hence I heat it up and use..so effective in growing hair.. and since I hear a lot about Rosemary, I want to try that too.. Im simply gonna ignore other hair oils because its not easily available at my place.
I have androgenic alopecia and in the past mixed rosemary oil mixed with aloe gel. I had good results with that. Then I was diagnosed with fragrance contact allergies. Had to switch to minoxidil which has been working. I was excited to her about diclofenac...I take that for lupus pain! I feel like it is now a bonus for my hair growth! I am going to throw in the pumpkin seed oil for the trifecta. Thank you for this helpful and hopeful video.
Do you mind sharing the mixing ratio? The common recommendation is 5 drops of rosemary but some say mix with a teaspoon of carrier oil while others say a tablespoon of carrier oil. Curious which is actually correct.
As an Indian gal, we grew up using coconut oil, castor oil and fenugreek seeds ground into a paste (applied as hair mask) regularly. I stopped doing it a while ago and I doubt it does anything really. However my mom and plenty of others swear by it. I honestly feel this has more to do with genes though 🤷🏽♀️
From what I've seen, coconut oil doesn't help at the follicle but helps moisturize and protect the actual hair strands. Castor oil is supposed to help actual growth. But of course I don't know if much actual research has been done so who knows lol. I agree genetics plays a big part
I dilute rosemary, lavender and cedarwood essential oil in aloe vera and apply every night. It reduces gray hair and promotes hair growth. I have fine hair in general but it works for me and keeps my hair from breakage, is more shiney and is stronger.
Do you use Aloe Vera gel or juice? I want to try it with Aloe Vera, I imagine it'll be easier to use.. not as greasy as oil. Which brand do you use? Thanks!
@@dianecalnan8286 I use gel but apply it at night and wash in the morning and yes way less greasy. I use Amara beauty aloe gel. The essential oils are so important too be diluted so this really works for gray and breakage

I love using peppermint oil in my conditioner and even in a hair mask that I leave on a few hours (castor oil + rosemary + shea moisture coconut conditioner). At first I didnt like the peppermint oil at all, but I’ve come to love it. Feels so so good. I don’t know if it really does help with hair loss or headaches but I love it. It feels so good and seems like I’m doing something proactive. Maybe I’m not, but because it feels so good I’ll keep using it. I’m glad for the info on pumpkin seed oil. I thought it was s one kore thing I should put in topically, so this was good info-get a good quality supplement. Check, will do. Dealing with post menopausal hair loss has been distressing, to put it mildly. I am determined to get ahead of this as well as I possibly can so I’ll be adding pumpkin seed oil supplements. I’m not sure what part of the changes I have made* is working, but the shocking amount of hair coming out every time I wash my hair and brush has lessened so that’s a big relief, as just seeing that caused upset. * I have also Saw palmetto supplants too. I e made a lot of changes so it’s not possible to know which are helping. I’m just very glad something is working. I would love to know what kind of rosemary oil oyjersxare Tsing that you can use daily, as I cannot wash my hair every day. It’s too dry and too long for daily washing.

i used aloe vera juice on my hair last night and i noticed and significant difference in the amount of frizz, moisture and volume my hair had! would love to see dr dray's opinion on this.
I add a few drops of rosemary oil and lavender oil to my shampoo, once a week, hoping to give my hair follicles a boost. My hair color and hair thickness has become like the hair I had 20 years ago. However, I also have improved my sleep habits and my diet . I eat pumpkin seeds every day so,perhaps, my breakfast has made my hair beautiful or having more time to relax and meditate has created a positive effect. I love all of your videos!
I can DEFINETLY say this works! I have hypothyroidism and was balding around my hairline , plus thinning hair all around.... I didnt think I could grow much less thicken my hair again.... After 4 months of taking 4 organic pumpkin seed oil capsules a day, and making my own rosemary oil to use topically (organic rosemary, organic olive oil, organic nettle powder, black jamaican castor oil, and organic pumpkin seed oil mixed) , PLUS my DIY rosemary water to spray before adding the oil to my hair, my hairline is growing back significantly and hair is thickening 🙌🏾💖🙌🏾 *For extra credit, I also drink nettle tea*

I use a mixture of coconut oil and castor oil (as the carrier oils) and then put in a few drops of rosemary essential oil - massage into my scald and wrap my hair in a towel and leave it on for about an hour or so. Then shampoo and style as usual. I have no evidence that it's helping me grow any hair, HOWEVER, my hair feels awesome and is in better general health than it was before.
I have been making my own rosemary oil since they grow abundantly around yard. Also make rice water which is also easy to make. I use both on hair & scalp. I also use dermaroller just where hair is thin. Not rolling but just pressing the roller so I wouldn't incure breakage. Rosemary you can just mix that with water in a spray bottle and spray on scalp, then dry as normal. I like making my own rosemary straight from the plant because I know exactly what I'm getting.
@T.R. MCT I just mix about a qtr cup rosemary into 1 cup water into a glass jar (i just use like a old glass jelly jar with a lid). Then I sit that jar near a windowsill or wherever sun is coming into my house. I leave it, sitting for a couple weeks on the windowsill sill. Yes, then you can strain it, pouring all the liquid into a small bottle. I use an old hair oil bottle that has a twist top and open it up just enough to trickle all over my scalp. I apply to scalp 2-3 times per week.
I combined rosemary oil and tea tree oil, lavender oil and olive oil and my hair had improve so much I had new baby hair growing and thickness had so many compliments and how shine and full it looks so I’m happy and I will continue using this oils because is working for me . I also let air dry and minimized hair spray o any other hair products and that’s important for me .
So I experimented with buying every possible hair oil and mixing them all together and would spray them in my hair every few days. I have to say I got the best growth and healthy looking hair I had in my entire life. My question is, by mixing them together do they work against eachother or can this be bad at all?

Cutting out gluten and cows milk helped me get thicker hair and clearer skin. i think it’s because of large companies in USA using hormones in cows& feeding them garbage and using engineered grain seeds/plants for wheat (they dont even soak the wheat 10 hours like other countries do so in the end you get a lot more gluten in the wheat flour compared to other countries like france for eg) these two main food groups are known to cause inlamation in the body and this inlamation shows up differently … My sister gets eczema and her flare ups also went away when shes eating this way. Once in a while we eat icecream and the next day i notice a pimple and she gets a flare up.
I wonder if Organic Valley Grass-Fed Cow's Milk is OK for hair and skin, because it's the only kind of cow's milk that I buy. I also look for ice cream with few additives, like Alden's or Tillamook.
At the start of the pandemic I wanted to oil my scalp with lavender and I legit grabbed an ESSENTIAL OIL and blended way too many drops into a carrier oil and massaged. My hair fell out from the lavender oil plus the overdoing of the massage. Please do your research and NEVER use essential oils without proper instructions. They are irritant, concentrated and many times artificial. Glad my scalp is back to normal now 😂 now I just oil my scalp without massage and with almond oil, a game changer
I'm sorry that happened to you but you said it yourself that you did not dilute it enough and over massaged/rubbed your scalp too much. Essential oils are safe and effective if used properly and yield beneficial results
Same here whenever I massage my hair after oiling my hair fall out. But if i use oil without massaging my hair doesn’t fall and yeah i love almond and amla oil
I have been using 100% pure castor oil on my hair for long time, months. I use it on 2 spots, one on each side of forehead. I have always had thin baby hairs in those spots but when I started using castor oil, after some time I noticed those hairs were growing longer. I rub it on and leave for at least 12 hrs and then wash hair. Since I wash hair twice a week I will use oil on the 2 days I wash hair and just wear a headband to cover oily look. My hair has definitely grown longer and am able to pull those hairs back now with the rest.
I'm very confused now. Dr Dray said that the use of castor oil is bad hair growth advice and that it has nothing to with stimulating it. It's in her „Worst skin care advice” video.
@@AnaboliKitchen I know it seems confusing because I'm saying opposite as Dr Dray. I was thrown off as well when I heard her talk about how it didn't help, when clearly I have had good benefits from it. I love Dr Dray, but I've noticed 2 things she has said that are contradictory to my experience and one is the castor oil and another is what she says about rose water. Rose water says it helps with inflammation, but Dray says there's no proof of that. I have bought rosewater spray before for the face and sprayed it on my face at night, which has acne, and next morning my skin is not as red and acne is tad bit better. So I personally like it. Plus I've had my boyfriend spray it on his face after he shaves, especially in hot weather, and his skin is not as irritated.
I like to use olive oil in my hair once a week in the winter. For dryness and scalp psoriasis. So far it's the best oil I have used for loosening up the build up. And it makes my hair very soft.
I read Argan oil is the best and fastest hair growth oil, they call it " liquid gold" for a reason. Also the other 2 here she mentions here, pumpkin and rosemary are good too.
Horsetail is a source of silica and is often found in supplements for hair and nails. I have been using a bamboo sourced silica supplement for my thinning hair with very good results. If I remember correctly, horsetail can be hard on the kidnefys over time.
Horsetail also can cause heart palpitations. It doesn’t necessarily but if you’re taking a supplement with Horsetail in it and your heart is fluttering that can be the reason.

It’s really starting to smell wonderful and the oil is getting a bit darker from the rosemary. I massage the rosemary infused oil into my scalp. I used to do Rosemary oil mix with carrier oil 2 x week. It was messy and time consuming. I switched my hair shampoo and conditioner to Aveeno brand, both products have rosemary oil. After a couple of months my hair shedding was reduced by about 80%.
If you have fine hair, olive oil can be difficult to wash out of your hair, making it look oily, even after several shampoos. You would never use an essential oil like Rosemary or Clary Sage directly on your skin/ scalp; but always with a carrier oil like castor, almond or coconut oil. Studies are limited on natural treatments because a prescription can't be written for them so the monetary incentive isn't there.
@@EspadasYCopas I did put it only on the scalp and if I put it on a day beforehand, I wouldn't be able to go out of the house unless I covered up my head. I repeat, with fine hair, olive oil can be difficult to wash out.

Octacosanol
Soybean extract (19-24%)
Mixed vegetable powder (20-25%)
Evening primrose powder (23-28%)
Corn silk extract (0.04 - 0.1%)
Red clover powder
Tomato powder
@@Make_AWish well that's some conflict of interest.
I mean we don't lose anything trying. Pumpkin seed oil is not as expensive as actual hair loss treatments, but for sure this detail makes me feel less inclined to trust tjr the phenomenal result...
I found this online regarding the Pumpkin seed study (Re Octa Saba Plus) and it seems scary - at least for men - if I’m reading this right…

WOW the info at 3:33 blew my mind! That was so incredibly helpful to hear.
Additionally, contains a proprietary blend of:
Octacosanols (derived from vegetable powder)
Gamma linolenic acid (derived from evening prim rose powder)
Polyphenols (derived from red clover powder)
Lycopene (derived from tomato powder)
Corn silk extract (from corn silk powder)
These ingredients aren’t just fillers.
Thank you so much for posting this information. Too bad the capsules are so expensive.
Eating eggs with avocado for breakfast and drinking a lot of water helped me grow my hair.
that sounds reasonable

Pumpkin seed oil is delicious to use in a honey vinagrette salad dressing, instead of using olive oil. It adds new dimension to the taste. It is quite pricey, but you only need a tiny amount though, as it make you very "regular"!
Once it is opened it needs to be stored in the refrigerator, to maintain nutritional benefits. It is not to be heated, or used in cooking. Pumpkin seed oil is an intense green colour. I buy mine in an Indian grocers.

No?

Me too along now with Hyperthyroidism!

Dr. Dray you look so beautiful, your skin is glowing! 😊
I was on Spironolactone LONG ago and the side effects were so bad I quit it.
How is it going now? I use rosemary mint and clove oils in flax seed carrier. Seems to help with hair not falling out as much. Also great for itchy scalp

Yay! I have been using rosemary oil and coconut oil. My hair is damaged and has breakage. Glad to hear that I’m doing some thing at least a little helpful
Where did you get it? And how much do you use?
For me personally, coconut oil helps in frizziness and makes hair soft. Castor oil is thick, hence I heat it up and use..so effective in growing hair.. and since I hear a lot about Rosemary, I want to try that too.. Im simply gonna ignore other hair oils because its not easily available at my place.

Very nice video! And a scientific-based video! That's the most important part! Not just some more random information... Thank you so much!!

I’ve had great success using Rosemary, tea tree and lavender oils.
What is your routine, please?
@rosiet253 did you notice hair loss in the beginning ?
I tried using coconut oil mix 5 drops of rosemary oil, massage it on my scalp. I leave it on overnight and it helps with excessive hair fall.
Do you mind sharing the mixing ratio? The common recommendation is 5 drops of rosemary but some say mix with a teaspoon of carrier oil while others say a tablespoon of carrier oil. Curious which is actually correct.
Your videos are great and so helpful. Whenever I see your thumbnails when I search for something, I click there first. Thank you so much.
I also grew up using coconut oil! I think it's particularly helpful when applied before shampooing--cuts down on frizzies for me!
From what I've seen, coconut oil doesn't help at the follicle but helps moisturize and protect the actual hair strands. Castor oil is supposed to help actual growth. But of course I don't know if much actual research has been done so who knows lol. I agree genetics plays a big part
Same as a Caribbean, my grandma made me put castor oil, fenugreek and coconut oil in my hair as a treatment. It stunk 😑

What is your hair care routine?
I use Pumkin seed oil and rosemary oil and rosehip oil for my hair..thank you much..God Bless you 🙏🏽 😘 ❤
I do not speak English. What oils did the doctor recommend and how to apply them?
Have you noticed any difference with this? Like have you started to get baby hairs in the thinning regions?
how do you make your own rosemary oil?
@ Carol Bieman
How do you make your own rosemary oil etc? 🙏
Wondering also how you make it? Do you just blend it with water, then strain it? If so, I imagine a preservative is needed?

Horsetail also contains slight amounts of nicotine and it lowers levels of b1 so you need to supplement with that as well when taking horsetail.
I would be careful with that! BioSil would be a better source for silica ingestion as it’s micronized specifically for better absorption

I love how informative and thorough these videos are. There is so much knowledge and professionalism, thank you! You’ve helped my skin so much!
Wooow I absolutely love Dr. Dray I don't know what I was doing I had not discovered her before
I mix a couple drops of rosemary essential oil with my scalp conditioning mask once a week and it works
Also, for hairloss topical Moringa oil! Helped me greatly!
Thank you Dr. Dray!
What about the aloe Vera plant? I have heard a lot of talk about how it helps hair growth? Would love to hear you talk about this.
Okay I think I'm going to watch again!
You have to put the oil a day before washing, and only on the scalp
@@EspadasYCopas I did put it only on the scalp and if I put it on a day beforehand, I wouldn't be able to go out of the house unless I covered up my head. I repeat, with fine hair, olive oil can be difficult to wash out.
Thank you. That was my experience. When I finally was able to wash off the olive oil, my hair felt stripped and dryer. I’m going to try emu oil with black pepper essential oil.
So combine Rosemary with Castor, Almond, or Coconut oil?? I have fine and dry hair as well so was curious of what you would recommend?
@@uanonymous1090 hi, i have super fine hair and I combine almond oil with a few drops of rosemary oil! I also love onion oil for my hair. I usually leave it overnight, two night a week.
I use olive oil for my scalp psoriasis. It works amazing.
Girl you are speaking my language with this topic ❤️❤️ love you so much
Thanks for watching
Glad you cleared this up for me. Wasn't sure about using the oils. Thank you;).👏👏👏❤❤👏👏👏
I've all the oils you mentioned. Now I use peppermint oil, tea tree oil, rosemary oil, argan oil, pumpkin seed oil, carrot seed oil, castor oil, jbco, coffee, fenugreek, cloves, parsley, onion oil, onion water, rice water, aloe vera, all have helped with my hair growth
Which rosemary oil do you use? Where do you purchase it?
research chebe this might be more helpful for us with kinky curly hair
@@fj8992 I dont like chebe
@@lee9604 you can get online at Amzon, or at Target
Excellent teaching Dr. Dray.
I have androgenic alopecia. Have applied a mixture of pumpkin seed oil, saw palmetto and rosemary oil to my scalp for 1 hr every other day.
Fast forward 1 1/2 years, can't say I see much difference. It seems to have filled in a tiny bit round the hairline.
I don't know about the other oils, but the pumpkin seed oil must be stored in the refrigerator (once opened) to maintain it's integrity. It shouldn't be heated up either.
I'm glad you are seeing some benefits so far, hopefully there will be more to come.
👱♀️❤
in the video, the study Dr. Dray mentioned about pumpkin seed oil they utilized pumpkin seed oils in capsules if i understood correctly
@@ahsu0208 yeah my saw palmetto supplement which I take as a natural anti DHT (androgen that causes androgenic alopecia) is made with pumpkin seed oil
When you say for an hour I'm assuming you shampoo it out after an hour. Maybe you should not disturb it a few days or apply it more frequently as you would minoxidil which I think would be twice a day.
@@sable7114 hmm perhaps. I suppose I could try leave it on for 2-3 hours. It's an oil treatment so have to wash it out after. Would've been nice if it was a water based formula that could've stayed on the scalp. But oil is oil. Lol
I tried Argan oil and Castor oil they did work. now I'm trying Rosemary rinse
