Funny how the district admin are having meetings over ZOOM because it's too dangerous to be in the same room and discussing how they want teachers and students to be in the same class.

I work for Prince George's Co School Dist in MD and our CEO has decided to continue distance learning til Jan 31st. And on Dec 1st, they will make a decision if we will continue distance learning or transition to a hybrid model for the second semester starting on Feb 1st. I think that's fair. I think all schools should do the same.

ExGaming135 IKR!!! I sat in on a WeVideo distance learning mtg. 😱 now we are expected to be a video production specialist😖. Yet another job that we don’t get paid for. I needed a🍸 after that meeting. One prep will take me about 3 hours to do😣😫. Plus how many preps per day, per week. I’m going to get the Rona simply from exhaustion and a nervous breakdown. 😱--here we go😖.
I went to the hospital yesterday. I talked to three doctors and nine nurses. All said that their children where staying home the entire school year!
There ya go!!! It will be a devastation to send us back.
I’m an icu nurse here in NJ, and I work w many physicians who have school ages kids, so we chat about this often. Not one of them (including myself) have any reservations about sending our kids back (w modifications) come fall.
To date, covid has killed 31 children in the entire nation. Last year, seasonal influenza killed 166 kids.
Just some perspective.

As a teacher I am concerned for the safety of students and staff but I know they need to be taught! I don’t get how some parents can have their kids out in public at beaches...malls...etc without mask but now are scared to send them to school 🤷♀️

Teachers do not get hazardous duty pay nor are there survivor death benefits if they contract covid19 at school and die. Why would they take the risk? Certainly not for the measly pay they get
Yes. The freaking problems we have are from the job of teaching. We must stick together as teachers. This is foolishness. Why we have to die. Teaching is one profession where people dont want to come. Its proven within the first five years people leave the profession. So let's keep the ones here by keeping us safe. He's trying to hold back funds for schools that dont open 5 days a week in person learning. In South Florida indoor dining isnt even open yet due to rising cases. 10k new cases a day. Can you blame anyone for suing? No PPE, No plan, No funding. =.=;

When I worked in the school district I remember seeing 12.50 deducted bi weekly from my pay check. Ahh Union dues. Where is the Union at? I have not read or hears anything about the Union thoughts or actions on this matter.
Well not only do teachers have preexisting conditions so do parents. We all know that the kids bring home kinds of viruses.

Okay, what are they going to do when the teachers get sick and there are no subs? There were hardly any subs before Covid. If I was a sub I would not go. Admins? Nope.
....exactly Tanya. Subs stopped coming to our school due to our many behavior problems. We end up splitting the kids if a teacher is out. With this going on...forget it. So what happens if a teacher takes a personal day?
@@80sgyrl82 Agreed. Just thinking about it, I'm going to bet we would be discouraged from taking a personal day. We split up classes, too. Doubt that's an option with CDC guidelines, if not common sense.

The subs in our district only get paid $80, and most are retirees. Who is going to risk their life for $80 dollars.
Exactly! In my district, we don't split classes. Teachers themselves are responsible for calling subs. You have to call the entire sub list until someone takes the job or you run out of subs. Do they have any idea what kind of a burden that is if you wake up sick in the morning??? You don't want to spend 45 minutes calling people! If you couldn't get a sub, teachers who are supposed to be on their planning time (or lunch time) get called in to cover that class. There's often too little work left for the students, no seating chart with students names... How you are supposed to control a classroom who has nothing interesting to do when you can't even write down their names to leave for the teacher I never did figure out. Teachers are highly discouraged from taking any time off personal or for sick leave as a result. I went to school sick many times. It was just easier than calling off and putting my teammates through that. I shudder to think how dangerous that will be now if someone comes to school sick with covid.

I’m from Atlanta and the metro area school districts are continuing distance learning. Georgia’s cases are rising as well. It’s the responsible thing to do until this country gets ‘Rona under control.
I remember in the 90s the flu was hitting our HS hard. Principle was asked to close the school for the rest of the week he said no. It was just a "few" students and teachers. By the time the flu was at the peak it was only a few teachers babysitting the last standing teenagers no point in teaching. So what could have been 3 days off, plus with the weekend, 5 to slow the spred turned into two weeks no learning. Go back now get sick kids watch how learning suffers then.

Ha...most teachers have pre existing conditions caused by teaching...so true..I was 127 pounds at 5 feet tall when I found out I had high blood pressure. I was in my mid 30s...so sad that I'm on the pill now. I exercised and stayed away from unhealthy foods and was still cursed. None of my siblings or parents had high blood pressure..so sad....

Sounds to me like you need to get a note from your doctor. You have a pre-existing condition😳. You need medical leave. OR an educational sabbatical for a year or two until this mess is over. And see if you can get a job with the online school folks while on sabbatical to make money OR teach English virtually to kids in Korea--where they only have about 300 to 400 cases right now. I’m trying to tell you something real good. They have no regard for our health-- therefore, you need to take care of yourself. IJS😳✌🏾. Stay Safe.

I might be firing off a letter to H.R. tomorrow morning requesting accommodations thanks to the A.D.A. Diabetes is now listed as a disability due to Covid-19. It will remain so until December 31st. Artis Wilkins Ok, asthma is not listed as a “disability” like diabetes is. ☝🏻 However, asthma and hypertension are listed as minor, (as opposed to major), concerns. The district MIGHT work with teachers accommodating them for minor concerns.

Funny stuff! They sent the survey out back in May.... when nobody had a clue as to what was going to happen in the fall... I said, back then, go back to school. Now I say.. nope mine will be signed up for the school's online acdemy as they call it... Please tell me how this will work! 1 teacher to help with k-5th and another to help with 6th-12th.... OMG we are going to be on our own as parents.

North Texas nurse here and the unit I work on was turned into a covid unit. We don’t get hazard pay just for coming to work. We are only offered more if we pick up extra shifts above our 3 req. 12 h shifts.
