Janice only has questions that pertain only to her, something to make us have to do more work (do you want us to turn in our lesson plans by Sunday evening at 8pm!). Screw you Janice! If you don't ask, then you can't get into any trouble for NOT doing it. I hate you Janice!
And there you have, what students do and feel like 😂... But I'm sure as a teacher you already know. Must be even harder especially in these times with online classes, I guess.
Janice at 5:16PM: "Everybody, we need to be consistent in enforcing the uniform policy. I'm the only one who called out Tiffany for wearing open-toed shoes, and she's been doing this for..."
Janice says everyone needs to teacher every subject at the same time covering the same amount of content no matter who your students are. Then sits in the principal's office brown nosing and telling on you!
I always wonder why they couldn’t just tell us this in one of the billion emails they send us. Also, I fight to keep myself awake after s LONG busy day with my students (9/10 I lose that fight lol). Come on people. We just wanna go home!
The absolute worst is if you teach in a late school, meet until 5pm and daylight savings time just changed and raining on a Monday evening to talk about performance evaluations! I just take off that day now because I JUST CAN"T.
Haha! I wasn't a teacher but I did sit through the same kind of horrible mind numbing meetings. My "favorite" was when we would get multiple pages of material to be covered and it would be duplicated in a power point presentation AND, word for word, READ ALOUD!! Seriously..if we really needed information presented in that manner we were all too stupid to be employed. 😄😄
That is such a colossal waste of time‼️ Just hit the vital points and then give out printed info, to take home and read. Sounds exactly like far too many mandatory hospital staff meetings‼️😱🤯😵💫
Oh wow! Thank you! Faculty meetings are so important, so people can hear themselves talk, and talk, and talk, and be important, and talk some more. It is the most inefficient bullshit system out there.
I have started to embrace staff meetings It is an hour or more that I can use to work on my grading and finally get caught up. I've closed out grades, gotten comments finally tossed onto report cards... it's great. Seriously... we do "celebrations" at the beginnings or SEL questions and I'm like let's get down to it and tell me what I need to know that couldn't be said in an email. I can't stand the frills.
Well I don't know where you work but where I work you aren't allowed to work on grades or have your computer open or notebook writing anything. It is hell and prison and a waste of time so Congratulations that you work in a normal place!
Oh my god, if you had been ten years younger I would have thought you were my student! So funny! Those are exactly the same thing my students do! Sneak texts, sneak candy/food, give the death glare-and I teach art! Your video gives me motivation to make my classes as engaging as possible.
Ours keeps us content in meetings by having breakfast for us. So we can eat and listen to the presentations. Please take notes anybody that doesnt do it for their staff. Our secretary sets it up. Mexican breakfast tacos, sweet bread. Some breakfast pies and mix fruit platter. Kolaches and donuts. Coffee, orange juice and waters. They have a monthly perfect attendance visa gift card. Then they have a end of year award. They gor a air pad 2 last year.
Why don't you all organize something for your meeting. Get something nice to drink, a small snack, maybe you could bring your own stuff. Carbs are a stress relief and increase the dopamine level.
We once had a faculty member that I think pretty much every school has but it depends on how much of a favorite they are as to whether the admin squelches it in the meetings. She "shared" her expertise on all matters of education (as well as other things) all throughout the meetings that it was common for other staff members to make tally marks every time she "shared". The record was 24 times in 1.5 hours.
Our Janice was named Sandra; she asked all the questions that didn't even pertain to that meeting and when there was a silent break she couldn't last more than 4 seconds but her average was 2 seconds... Nobody else had anything to say because everything was clear enough.
Nothing but facts here!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣With no shame, I have utilized several of these techniques!!! Thank you great teacher for the new techniques you have shared!!!😊
Yes, we all know those meetings where they could have recorded the last meeting and just played it back and saved us all a lot of time and breath. When certain people begin to talk --- again --- and you groan inwardly. The snack sneaks are so true.
This was totally funny! I need to practice a cute fake laugh on cue lol. I might not be the norm but I loved professional development. I think it's all about perspective, coming into a meeting with an attitude of "Cool what do I get to learn about today?" instead of "Why am I wasting my time, I have so much to do".
You forgot one. At the end of the meeting, make a vague comment or ask a question (one a quick and obvious answer) to make it seem like you were paying attention and were invested.
The last year before I retired I would just daydream and try to be invisible so as to avoid asking questions or commenting on anything related to/while I was in a staff meeting(s). They are just the worst. Most of what is done in staff meetings could be done online, via email, or in much smaller groups.
you forgot to include the one that really is engaged like Janice; do one of those, with questions everybody already knows the answer or comments to brag about what they do in class
Once had a principal who had the best way to make us pay attention. Had a slide that talked about a "guest speaker" coming in...and even had the office staff pop in to say he would be late. He asked us to read the intro slide on the bottom in very small lettering were the words "whoever reads this first, go shut the light off for library". A good 10 minutes passed by until one of the kindie teachers actually read it and shut the light off and we were all like "yea, we're just REALLY slow." Turned out the meeting was an escape room (had relevant stuff as clues to "escape" but was less boring than other ones).
I was the library media Specialist at one school and our meetings were always horrendously repetitive and useless. As they were held in the library, I was always looking around at the shelves I could straightening, books to shelve, etc... which made it worse. At one point, the meeting was so bad that I used my cell to call the phone at the circulation desk. I excused myself, picked up the phone and did a bunch of , "Let me check that...hold on...wait...etc..." while I sent a few emails. No one was the wiser!
Principal: That concludes the meeting. If anybody has any questions that pertain to the whole group, now is the time. If your question is just about your specific situation, subject, or grade level, come talk to me after the meeting or during office hours tomorrow. Janice: I have a question about something that was not discussed in the meeting and which applies only to one student in one of my classes, so I think everyone needs to be here for this.
Sooo true!!! Staff meetings, PD and trainings are all so boring. Then teachers are supposed to be super engaging with students. What a double standard.
😂 this is how I felt during every staff meeting. I taught Special Education for 22 years. Most meeting had nothing to do with resource teachers job. All I wanted to do was go home.
No matter what kind of meeting, there is always a ‘Janice’. *sigh*
Janice was the kid in class who reminded the teacher he/she forgot to assign homework. 😄
Ugh, yes!!!
Your hilarious!

I’m a teacher and this is so on point😂🤣🤣😆🤣👍🏾
And there you have, what students do and feel like 😂... But I'm sure as a teacher you already know. Must be even harder especially in these times with online classes, I guess.
Sssssooooo true! I’m in stitches!!!🤣
I don't ever want to become a teacher if it means staying in those long meetings
Its like "This could have been an email!"
We're just like our students.
And admin are like the teachers that you hate because they are so dry and boring that you can't hope of paying attention.
Yes
Nope, we're worse! LOL!
I hate it when someone asks questions that have already been answered. Come on listen up and make this as short as possible. That is soooooo true.
“Core values? Have you seen my third period class?”
Haha that was so me when I taught middle school.
Too funny! 😆
There is always someone like Janice
And the question is always something that was already covered 73 different ways.
DAMNIT JANICE! 😂
Yeah no kidding, Hey Janice, shouldn’t you be getting home to feed your 7 cats?
Or it’ll be a question that has nothing to do with us 😩
Janice is black Karen 😂😂😂😂😂

I felt the nodding-off deep in my soul. I try, I TRY to be attentive, I really do, but by 3pm I just can't anymore.
