I remember doing the Virginia Reel down at the Saint Paul Civic Center during a basketball game intermission. In 6th grade.😂😂😂 Me and Mom had to go pick out a new dress and shoes, that is so funny.must have been '75.
This dance was created in my home country of Scotland but it appears that we do it very differently ( a lot more violently) than our American counterparts.
The origjns of this dance are in England ( Sir Roger de Coverley), which the English settlers took to America and modified jnto the Virgina Reel. The Virginia reel then came to Scotland, where it remains a polular ceilidh dance. The clue is in the name.
This was lovely! Thank you for making these videos. My students learn folk dances so much faster when they can see the overall plan before we break it all down!!
This is my absolute favorite class I learned it in dance class in 3rd grade and it was so fun!!!
Awesome!!!

Lol, it depends on which group is doing it! I go to english country dancing and we do it very rowdy!

We did this dance in school ! At folk fest
I've just begun using New England Dance Masters at my school. Which dances would you recommend for upper elementary?
I remember Irish st Patrick's Day.
Huh. I DID THIS IN FOURTH GRADE.
This is awesome! What is the song you used?
Thanks so much! We used the audio recording by Sanna Longden from her DVD (#5) "Historic and Contemporary Dances for Kids and Teachers."

What is that move called where you spin down the aisle with different partners?
According to the New England Dancing Masters it's called "strip the willow"
I know it as “reel down the set”, then slide back up, followed by the cast off (aka strip the willow or peel the banana), then the arch
It's a reel. That's what makes it a reel.
Where did you find the music for this? I have this book but it didn't come with this song...
