If you sight dead on at 25 yards, you will be 1.5-2.0 inches high at 100. This will give you a maximum point blank range (mpbr) of somewhere between 275-325 yards (an online ballistic calculator can tell you exactly). This means anywhere between the muzzle and the mpbr yardage you can hold dead on and will never be over 3-4 inches high or low.
So since both our Ruger American Predators in 6.5 Creedmoor are so dang accurate with the Norma Whitetail, think I’ll go ahead and raise my Nikon’s elevation another inch for a 200 yd zero next trip to the range. You’re saving me some ammo money, Who Tee Who! Thanks!

The biggest question in the whole hunting equation…….how far are you willing to take a kill shot? I dont see myself ever trying to make a kill over 300 yards.
That's about most people's limit. However, it does depend on the hunters skill level and what they are using. I've seen plenty of videos of deer being taken at long ranges, but these folks aren't your typical hunter who shoots occasionally on the weekends.

Hey, a logical extension of this series would be to shoot lower BC bullets at 100 and then at 400 or 500 if you can get that much range back east there in Tennessee. Then shoot a high BC bullet at 100 and 400 or 500. The difference would be minimal at 100 but much more pronounced at 500.

I have the Begara HMR Pro in 6.5 creed. I was using the same Norma whitetail ammo and on my drop test I was zeroed at 100 yards and shot a group at 150 yards as thats where my corn pile is and my drop was 3/4" - 1".
Not sure if u are but if your not during these drop test start adjusting your parallax when your sending it out to 200. I think it will make a difference. Better results.
I love Hornaday Match in 6.5 Creedmoor...shot 8 rounds in the space of a dime from my Ruger Precision at 100 yards...the other two were 1/4 inch away but not touching

Took my boys creedmoor out and shot a whitetail with it today. 350 yards with 129 grain Hornady. It's sighted in at 200 yards at 300 it drops little over 7.5 inches. It's an inch five high at hundred.
It would be interesting to see the comparison of the drop with the actual chronograph muzzle velocity compared with the velocity listed on the box, since that is determined with a different barrel length and gun setup.

I use Winchester 125g Deer Season ammunition and setup with a 25/250y zero .... -0.1" @ 25y *** +1.1" @ 50y *** +2.6" @ 100y *** +2.9" @ 150y *** +1.9" @ 200y *** -0.5" @ 250y *** -4.4 @ 300y *** -6.9" @ 325y (MPBR) *** -9.8" @ 350y *** -13.1" @ 375y *** -16.9" @ 400y. I use this MPBR system and don't have to think about holdover until past 325 yards and holdover is pretty minimal out to 400 yards. For a quick shot where range is in doubt (short or long), I just put the crosshair on top of the shoulder and squeeze. It's either going to be a kill shot or a good ethical clean miss.

I don't have a 6.5 Creedmoor so I can't speak from experience but your results are right in line with what the Hornady book states the ballistics will be for this bullet at that speed. I don't see how this firearm lives up to the hype that has been generated for it. A .284 diameter bullet same weight and about 100 fps faster drops slightly less and retains more velocity at 200 yards. I don't see the love for the 6.5 but it's quite possible I'm missing something.
I've been watching these and thinking... If only a 4 inch drop at 200 (2 moa on the chart), does it make sense to dial the scope up 1 moa and have a rough point of aim that "works" anywhere from 50 to 200? 50 would be about an inch and a half high, 100 about 2 inches high, and 200 about 2 inches low. On a heart shot that should be enough to get a clean kill (assuming a good hit).
Yes, that makes sense and will work. But, I would rather know exactly where the bullet hits instead of being okay if it hits within 2 inches of where I am aiming
I'm betting that cartridge would be less than two inches high at one hundred yards if it is zeroed at 200 yards. It may be no more than an inch high with a high ballistic coefficient bullet like the 6.5 Creedmoor needs to be using for hunting or target shooting. I would sure test it out before I settled on a 100 yard zero with a rifle in this caliber.
@@kenycharles8600 agreed the rounds I use for hunting with my 6.5 creedmoor I have zeroed at 200 yards and there is only about a half inch difference in shot placement between 50 yards and 200 yards but the rounds I use recommend being zeroed at 200 for hunting likely because they shoot like a laser the bullet ballistic data on the rounds I use read like this 50 yrds(-0.53”) 100 yrds(-0.26”) 200yrds(0.00) 300yrds(-2.77”)
If you're not looking for super precision, which I'd recommend for varmints at long range, but for deer, maybe sight in the rifle 3" high at a hundred and using a ballistic chart, find out when that bullet is 3" low and whatever range that is, call that your maximum range to take a deer. No guess work, just use the center cross hair and aim for the vitals and you'll always have a bullet in that vital zone of a deer. Ron Spomer covers this in his videos and calls it the maximum point blank range. Makes sense for deer rifles and such, but if using an optic with a bdc, then use the bdc accordingly.

Checking in from South Africa. I get good results with the Remington core lokt 140gr ammo. Groups well and doesn't damage the meat. Mind you, for a small casing, it's got a punch. To people who feel that they need a 300win mag for distances under 400yards, learn how to shoot.

I’m a new shooter (four boxes of ammo new), with a Remington 700 in 6.5CM. The last time I went shooting I got a .55” 3shot group with Sellier & Bellot 140gr ammo. If you do your own reloads I’m sure you’ll get to 600yds quickly.

Good series, WTW. Your scope height looks higher than 1.5" above bore. Changing the number in the calculator to 2" (or actual measurement) would cause the drop on the chart to show a number smaller than 4.16". Since actual drop is closer to 4.5, actual muzzle velocity might be less than the number you put in the calculator. Anyway, reallt just thinking out loud and commenting to help with the algorithms. I know you're on top of it!

I like Norma ammo but I started shooting it with my 6.5 Creed and found out they are a high pressure ground even though I really liked what I was seeing there's a vlog online explaining it was blowing the primers out on mine
Fort Scott Munitions 7.62x39mm 117 grain Copper Solid Brass Centerfire Rifle Ammunition tumble on impact, love to see a video of this specific ammo tested for 100 yard group to see how it does in the real world before I spend the money to buy it for hunting. Not cheap compared to Tula soft point ammo.
Ron Spomer talked about these rounds. Yeah the 25-06 has better numbers than the 6.5 CM, but the 6.5CM took off so well due to being a short action and the popularity of the other 6.5 cartridges.

So the forces of gravity & forward momentum are independent of one another... A bullet fired out of a rifle & one dropped by hand at the same height will hit the ground at the exact same time...knowing this, it seems like the only factor that will effect how "flat" any cartridge shoots is muzzle velocity...
The difference between G7 and G1 BC is the shape of the bullet ! So a boat tail should be given in G7 and a flat bottom bullet should be G1 BC !! (check to make sure about which is which, That's the difference in G1 v G7 BC
Could you make a video (or a few) using this in a real life station? Pick random distances and estimate range to see how close you get? Just a thought...
With most bottleneck cartridges if you zero at 200 it will be about 1.5 inches high at 100. Thats how my dad always zeroed all of his guns because you can aim dead on out to 200-250 and aim at the top 1/3rd of the deer at 300.
Im tryna find the best caliber rifle to buy for deer hunts these vids are hella helpful itll be my first deer hunt ive huntef other game like hogs which i used 10mm and coyotes i used 5.56 small game i use 22. Mag or 17hmr now i need deer gun

I've noticed most calibers hang around that 3-6 inch mark at 200. Imo, this is what to expect from most calibers, just the difference is the amount of energy it will have at that range. I guess if this was a 5-800 yard drop test, then that's when we would see some big difference in drop and windage amongst all these calibers as well as the energy levels.

I just ordered some of the Norma Whitetail in 243 and 7mm08 from budsguns. I will give it a try.

i love these eps because it doesn't matter how many times you try and teach some people it don't sink in bullets fall so sight in your gun at 100 then become a better shooter or just bye your meat

I think long range shooting is kinda underappreciated these days. Barely anyone cares about it, they just wanna run wacky drills designed for 2/3 gun matches & then call it combat training lol

I've never been a long range shooter and I've been slowly getting myself into it, your videos have been very helpful. I picked up a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt action to be my first long range rifle, I hope to be hitting 600 yards regularly soon.
I’m a new shooter (four boxes of ammo new), with a Remington 700 in 6.5CM. The last time I went shooting I got a .55” 3shot group with Sellier & Bellot 140gr ammo. If you do your own reloads I’m sure you’ll get to 600yds quickly.
@@dannsgamingfails8899 I'm planning on doing my own reloads. My intent is to use about 60 rounds getting use to my set up at 300 yards and less. Then move into the higher ranges with reloads. I found a couple boxes of high end competition rounds in the event I can't find reloading supplies. I'm new to reloading as well, lol, so I don't have a stockpile yet.

Good series, WTW. Your scope height looks higher than 1.5" above bore. Changing the number in the calculator to 2" (or actual measurement) would cause the drop on the chart to show a number smaller than 4.16". Since actual drop is closer to 4.5, actual muzzle velocity might be less than the number you put in the calculator. Anyway, reallt just thinking out loud and commenting to help with the algorithms. I know you're on top of it!

I like Norma ammo but I started shooting it with my 6.5 Creed and found out they are a high pressure ground even though I really liked what I was seeing there's a vlog online explaining it was blowing the primers out on mine

Ron Spomer talked about these rounds. Yeah the 25-06 has better numbers than the 6.5 CM, but the 6.5CM took off so well due to being a short action and the popularity of the other 6.5 cartridges.

buddy in the video clip was right - that was a good couple of seconds. i'm quite surprised the ding was so loud after 1000 yards but let's see what your chart says re: the energy at that range might explain it. yup. 791 vs 392 ftlb. the ballistic coefficient was nearly double too. hmmm. :-).. :-)
With my Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor my rifle is set with 100 yards and it absolutely loves Norma ammo. I may set it 200 yards next time.

Would love to see .270 WSM @ 130 gr & 150 gr with a 100 or 200 yard zero. Really great videos.
Out here on the open prairie most hunters like to have their rifles dead on at 250 yards = 1.5" -2" high at 100. That's with 270 130 grain or my favorite 257 Weatherby 100 grain.(3650 fps, M.V.)
I am comfortable shooting a deer or pronghorn at 400, (I prefer closer if possible)

My 6.5 with Winchester deer season xp 125g hits to the right at a distance also. That’s interesting.
So the forces of gravity & forward momentum are independent of one another... A bullet fired out of a rifle & one dropped by hand at the same height will hit the ground at the exact same time...knowing this, it seems like the only factor that will effect how "flat" any cartridge shoots is muzzle velocity...

The difference between G7 and G1 BC is the shape of the bullet ! So a boat tail should be given in G7 and a flat bottom bullet should be G1 BC !! (check to make sure about which is which, That's the difference in G1 v G7 BC

The Creed is a incredibly accurate round however after 2 solid lung hits on whitetails with 2 different loads im back to the old faithful 270 Win.
Could you make a video (or a few) using this in a real life station? Pick random distances and estimate range to see how close you get? Just a thought...

What about sighting it in at 200 yrs what would it be at 100
With most bottleneck cartridges if you zero at 200 it will be about 1.5 inches high at 100. Thats how my dad always zeroed all of his guns because you can aim dead on out to 200-250 and aim at the top 1/3rd of the deer at 300.

Have you found a bipod for the Ruger American that you can still put a sling on. I bought a barrel mounted bipod that I didn’t like so I sent it back.
Haven't looked. I usually don't take a bipod when hunting

So of all the calibers you have done on this 50, 100 and 200 yard test which caliber has had the least amount of drop at 200 yards?
So far - 204 ruger. But that one is not out yet......
I've noticed most calibers hang around that 3-6 inch mark at 200. Imo, this is what to expect from most calibers, just the difference is the amount of energy it will have at that range. I guess if this was a 5-800 yard drop test, then that's when we would see some big difference in drop and windage amongst all these calibers as well as the energy levels.
