    It's been a while, but I think I was able to have 2 external extended displays on the Mac if 1 was connected to the USB-C port and the other was connected to the Display Port. Not 100% sure, but I think that was the case when I was testing different docks for out Mac users at my previous company. We ended up going with the WD19-TB because it supported 3 monitors.

    Thank you for the information Dad! I have a Dell inspiron 7577 Gaming with a 180W power brick. does that mean this one will not power my laptop because it's 50W short? Also, I currently use a sabrent universal USB 3.0 dock and have an external monitor linked via HDMI. When I run games, it lags a lot (playing on laptop display does not lag) Would this dock help solve that problem through USB C even if I connect the monitor via HDMI again?
    edit: after 2 mins of posting the above comment, I realized the usb-c port of my laptop doesn't support power delivery anyway so ignore the charge question! haha

      Hi RoyalOsiris, thanks for your feedback. I use the Dell Latitude 7400 very often on both the WD19 and WD19TB using triple external monitor setup and works fine as well. I know the Dell WD19 and Latitude 7400 are both compatible products hence I didn't really mention this in this dock review but rather test what wasn't supported just being curious. The one thing I must mention is when the Latitude 7400 is connected to the WD19 it heats up a fair bit even if the computer isn't working hard. This has been the case for a number of 7400 with the WD19. I've lodge a job with Dell to have this looked at and hoping they get a good firmware update to fix this issue up.

Just make sure with your laptop, if you have thunderbolt for the USB-C then get the WD19TB if it's without the thunderbolt chip then go with the plain WD19.

      The charger is in the laptop, the dock or “charge” brick only provide power. So no you can’t overcharge. However lithium batteries in general don’t like to be charged 100% capacity constantly. If your laptop supports it, enable battery saving mode (can be named differently) which only charges the battery to 80-90%.

    Does this support DisplayLink, like the D6000? I've been using my D6000 for a while now, flawlessly with my MBP, 4 screens in total, including the MBP. Just need to have DisplayLink running and full extended screens. Only drawback is the power. I don't think I get the full 90W to my MBP, so it takes a while when the bat is dead, hence considering an upgrade.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortuntely @praFieldy the WD19 range doesn't run the DisplayLink. You are right the D6000 is only able to pass power up to 65W and for a MBP that is 15 and 16 inch it isn't enough and will be a slow battery drain. The Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock has output power of 90W but only supports up to maximum two external monitors.

      D6000 will work always because it “streams”the image and uses a normal usb-c connector (does not need image signal). however if you want to do something graphic intensive than avoid buying the D6000.

    Could you please if possible do the same with Lenovo’s graphics dock thingo. I understand that they are not upgradable which is a shame given it’s price, you wouldn’t think it would be difficult to have an enclosure that allows you to upgrade and switch the graphics cards as required.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому

      The graphics cards aren't built into the docks actually, the displaylink docks do have a chipset to help encode the video stream from the computer to the monitors but isn't ideal for games. As for the thunderbolt ones they are using the graphics chipset from your notebook to encode the display stream. I have a Lenovo dock on its way so should be able to get a review up soon for it.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Navinder Dhaliwal, the plain normal Dell WD19 won't support dual monitors 4k at all, it will support a single 4k @ 60Hz. Simply the non thunderbolt usb-c doesn't have enough bandwidth to push dual 4k display. The Dell WD19TB will support dual 4k @ 60Hz provided your computer has thunderbolt as well. The WD19TB will be able to drive 2x 4K @ 60Hz and 1x QHD @ 60Hz. Here is the table matrix of the connections type to support the different display resolution in different monitor setups. I hope this helps you. www.dell.com/support/manuals/au/en/aubsd1/dell-wd19tb-dock/wd19_tb_userguide/display-resolution-table?guid=guid-5558fc88-5c31-4e2c-90be-42359855a1ae&lang=en-us

    Hi Dad, Great video.
    Will Dell WD19 will work on Lenovo L480 Laptop.

      @BsianTech  4 роки тому

      Hi IT Support, it should but I would suggest instead to go with the Lenovo ThinkPad Pro Docking Station or ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station. The difference between the Pro and Ultra dock is the Ultra has extra HDMI and VGA plus one more USB-C port compare to the Pro version so all depends on your monitor connections required. Personally I prefer mechanical docks, they last way longer plus less port damage on the laptops. Hope this helps =)

    On a PC you can extend from one monitor to another. It's weird that on a mac you can't.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  3 роки тому +1

      This is due to MacOS doesn't support MST which allows you to piggy back more display on the same channel.

    Is this displaylink supported dock?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Muneef M, the WD19 range isn't a displaylink dock, they will run the video transmission natively from your laptop's hardware. So the WD19 will run the display over USB-C. If you run this with a Macbook go with the WD19TB which is the thunderbolt version. I have manage to get the WD19TB work with two external monitors that can work independently, you will need to connect the second monitor via the thunderbolt port (even if you use an adapter HDMI to USB-C or DP to USB-C it will work) at the back of WD19TB. If you want to run a third external monitor then that will have to be connected directly to the macbook, hope that helps.

    Hey got a quick question! How is the latency on your screen in games?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Stefan Noël, unfortunately I am not the best to answer your question well as I very rarely run PC games these days, if it is it's on the PS4 or on the phone. I don't expect it to have much latency compare to linking the monitor directly to the laptop since the rendering of the display is directly through the computer due to displayport over USB-C rather than have an extra encoder on the dock or CPU like on Displaylink docks.

    How's the performance vs the Wd15?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Burgattti, the performance is way better for the WD19 compare to the WD15. The WD15 still has USB2.0 ports where as the WD19 is all USB3.0/USB3.1gen1. Major difference is also the Displayport is only version 1.2 on the WD15, the WD19 is version 1.4 and the HDMI is version 1.4a on WD15 and version 2.0 on WD19. So the WD15 can only display up to FHD where as the WD19 can do up to 4K. Also the WD19 is able to provide more higher power capability to charging. I hope that helps you.

      @@BsianTech thanks for the reply! Yh currently using a xps 13 9365, folded backwards docked with 2 1080p screens above it, making for a triple monitor set up, it works beautifully right now, dont know if I'll benefit from any extra capability from the wd19, but at least know the specs!

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 роки тому +1

      Unless you upgrade your monitors to higher resolution than the 1080p Burgattti there isn’t any benefits to you currently to change to the WD19 it would be waste of money in your situation in your current setup.
