Fabulous interview! The only thing you didn't ask about WS lost to FL when Wells said Yankees forced him to pitch despite back injury and Yanks lost a key Game 5 when he had to leave the game due to the back locking up after only 1 inning. Contreras came in and spit the bit.
Nice interview and blessings to Boomer David Wells. Even though I’m a Mets fan I did admire his realness. That stuff needs to be shown to a lot of young men out there especially in todays dating market in the westernized countries. Particularly America 🇺🇸
There are very good reasons why pitchers throw fewer innings in the modern game. Pitcher today are throwing much harder and with more high torque breaking balls. 20 years ago if you threw 95+, it was elite, now even average pitchers hit 100 regularly. The direct consequence of this is a record number of severe elbow and shoulder injuries.
Every time I think of him, I think of the homerun he gave up in game 7 of the 03 alcs. He relieved clemens, first pitch, hanging curveball and Ortiz clocked it.
Wells is 💯 right about todays players, especially the NBA. These players today are super entitled, cuddled & dont respect fans, specifically the NBA. Analytics has destroyed MLB, NBA, and other sports. Wells is one of my favorite baseball players bcuz he was straight up honest, mentality tough & never make excuses. Brandon at times these come off as a "Yes Man" at time...

Devil wells was the man and he was a leader on the field. He wasn’t a leader off the field as he did what he chose to do.I lived Torre and I loved Wells bc he pitched his ass off and as a manager my focus would have been on what he did on the mound and making sure he was ok off of it and understanding his character
Today's pitchers are overpaid 5 inning pitch count prima donnas who deplete the bullpen. How many damn relief pitchers can you use every game? Why is it pitchers used to go at least 7 innings last 15 to 20 years and were hardly ever injured while these big bums today are treated like porcelain?
@@ezequielbriones6943 Cash didn't give Torre a single left starting pitcher in 2004. Weird how you left that fact out. Intentional or too stupid to know anything?
i just watched wells' 'perfect game', and the strike zone was the size of a door. not a good first impression XD it also seems like he doesn't throw hard as today's aces. not trying to be a hater but i'm not buying his 'just be tougher' mentality. you think today's pitchers don't want it just as bad?
Wells opinions about the game are valid....but idk this guy takes No Responsibility for acting like a clown. I kinda understand why Joe Torre didnt like him. Self proclaiming I was late or out late or not doing whatvever. But his defense is "i still played well" sounds like he was Mad that he didnt get the special treatment. Honestly I can tell why hes disliked.
Wells is a special kind of crazy but he's dead on about this Yankee team and baseball as a whole. From the top down the Yankee organization is soft. The Yankee minor leagues is basically daycare.
Neither Wells nor the WFAN loud mouth speak to the reason behind the change in watching pitcher pitch counts - the same reason there are more pitcher injuries now than when Wells was pitching: it's the types of pitches being thrown now. Don't take my word for it, watch this explanation by a sports orthopedic surgeon ua-cam.com/video/G0rk1MbsIR4/v-deo.html
Seriously one of the best interviews I've ever heard of a former professional athlete . He is as real as it gets , love it
Wells became one of my favorites when the Babe Ruth hat happened.
Wells is entrenched in my best Yankee memories, but Joe is too. I'd never try and pick him apart.

Give David Wells some respect he helped build the Yankees Dynasty!
Wells is awesome
Even as a lifelong Mets fan, I always dug David Wells. A true player, character....
Wells is the man. Completely at peace with who he is and not changing for anyone but himself,
I love david wells.
This interview is gold
Great interview

Boomer is hilarious and 100% honest lmao
Any time David Wells speaks you listen
BT has been on point this week first this and then defending his peers against Stugotz.
This was absolutely sick 🔥🔥🔥

I dont care what people say Wells was fire in this interview.

100 pitches is the limit for high school. KIDS.. Why can't the best MEN in the world go 120-125????
I just became a wells fan.
Great interview, miss boomer

Great radio . Happy to see licata didn’t hang up on him
I can’t wait until quality strikeout is an official stat! Yankees would lead the league in QK’s!

Torre was awful managing a bullpen.
Ramiro mendoza, Scott Proctor, Tanyon Sturtze etc.... over using them
Quantrill
@@PortAuthorityNY yes, thank you 2004 which was another debacle for Joe Torres as manager
His quick hook drove me nuts but he was great
He didnt have a bullpen besides Mariano. Cashman was bad back then too

A welcome would be nice
I feel like this was a contrived good cop/bad cop interview.
Sal is such a tool
David Wells is based!
Yeah who better then dumb and dumber or beavis and butthead which ever way you want to call them to conduct this interview
Too many pitchers are being pampered and they don't go past the 5th and 6th inning plus the are being overpaid.
@joselopezmoya9786 my friend if you get caught up in how much players are paid, you'll never really enjoy baseball.

Something that not many people want to hear, Joe Torres was not a very good manager.
4 WS titles would disagree
He deserves his nickname Boomer
What about Chris Berman from ESPN and NFL Primetime. I think he deserves that name as well lol 😂. Along with David Wells err Bommer Wells.
Freedom of speech say what you want
Great interview
