He played the game really well bury with the bat and glove and he came off as a class act to an naive kid who doesn’t know any better. I met Roger once, and I actually asked him about the beef. It was kinda weird to ask the legend at the source, but he was kinda coy about it. makes sense tho given that this all happened literally 20 years earlier
What baffles me even more than the antisocial behavior of professional baseball players is how many baseball fans wish they could get in a fight, but don't because they would face social consequences, so they live vicariously through demanding that baseball players fight each other
To me its crazy that pitchers even have the balls to throw the ball at someone. Thats how I know I could never play baseball because let a pitcher throw a ball at me going 90+ mph. You better knock me out because if I get up, I'm not dropping that bat when I come to the pitchers mound. If you can throw something at me, I can hit you with this bat. fair is fair to me.
Roger was just fired up when he caught the bat and I think for once he was telling the truth. You could tell he was just amped and kind of startled by the broken about flying at him. He seemed like he was mad it wasn't the ball and just threw it in disgust.
@@BlueWingedRino He didn't throw it to first base because he realized it wasn't the ball. He threw it towards the dugout, but that was where Piazza was running, and it was all in a split second. I'm a Dodger fan, and I was a kid when Piazza was with us so I root for his side in this. But I don't think Clemens meant to throw the bat at Piazza, and he knew it looked bad on him. He definitely meant to bean Piazza though, and I think he is a sack of crap.
I was at that game where Clemens beaned Piazza. I was sitting in the upper deck and even up there, the crack of the ball hitting Piazza's helmet was very LOUD!
I try not to be revenge minded, but Clemens really should've gotten some sort of penance. Also, the T-mobile ad was only 2 in a row for me, but I already have that network.
Mike will never admit it, he is very smart, he has this business type look even when he played, he probably didn’t tip but studied the scouting report and asked Roger to pitch to the batter’s strenght. That all star game was the worst beating of Roger Clemen’s career. That all star game you forgot to mention that. Was in Houston, Roger Clemens had ads out was being advertised as a hero, he had a phenomenal season going for him. The fans of 30 teams and then some more were watching. It was the perfect stage to absolutely embarrass Roger Clemens. But we won’t hear this until Piazza is probably 92. It just doesn’t make sense that Clemens was that good that year except for the ASG.
Yeah, Piazza was one of my favorite players growing up, and all I knew of Clemens was the bat incident, so I thought he was some kind of psycho. But watching this, I really think he was throwing the bat to the dugout, but Piazza was running to first base, and he almost hit him. I don't think it was intentional. But people want to believe in the drama over the mundane reality.
I’ll never forget watching game 1 of the WS at my friends house, we went nuts when Clemens threw the bat at him. Clemens had so much roid rage, he acted as though piazza aimed the broken bat at him on purpose 😂
That teammate saying they should fight is Mike Hampton. Dude was a pit bull and had dynamite stuff during that spell of his career and was one of the best hitting pitchers of his time. He fell of a cliff after the big contract but he earned his way into receiving it for sure.
I low key believe that if pitcher have the right to throw 100mph solid balls at batters batters should have the right to swing at pitcher if they're able to get to them
I remember at this time during this beef thinking the whole time Piazza was just scared of him. But now in my 40's he was just way more mature than Clemons immature and petty ass. This from a Yankee fan.
If I were Clemens, whether I meant to do it or not, I would just say... "Look, I'm a Major League pitcher, which means I made a living by throwing things accurately. If I wanted to hit him, he would have been hit."
I can live with a sponsor. Y'all gotta get paid. But the logo in the top right switching back and forth between Secret Base and T-Mobile is INCREDIBLY distracting and takes away from the video itself.
1:09 Roger clemens was past his prime ?!?! He was coming off of a 20-6 season with the Jays with an ERA of 2.65, a WHIP of 1.06 and 271 strike outs...if that's "past his prime" id love to see what you think a prime is...

“Secret Base subscribers beef with T-Mobile deserves a rewind.”
favourite series on youtube this - need to do more uk football beef or just football beefs in general as theres a few - keane vs viera, man u ferguson vs arsenal wenger, pep vs ibra, mourinho vs wenger, keane vs haaland - or for rewind the battle of the bridge - like the amerocan sports ones (especially bball) but would be cool to have more ones for home sports
A good old re-upload, I dig it.
No ones talking about Clemens still rocking the frosted tips in the 2020s
I met Roger once, and I actually asked him about the beef. It was kinda weird to ask the legend at the source, but he was kinda coy about it. makes sense tho given that this all happened literally 20 years earlier
🙏😭 What is up with the T-Mobile ads?
I cant wait for Secret Base to have a Patreon . Does anyone know if they have one? Haven't seen 5 ads for it during this video
What baffles me even more than the antisocial behavior of professional baseball players is how many baseball fans wish they could get in a fight, but don't because they would face social consequences, so they live vicariously through demanding that baseball players fight each other
It’s still insane to me that it is normal for pitchers to try to hit batters…
To me its crazy that pitchers even have the balls to throw the ball at someone. Thats how I know I could never play baseball because let a pitcher throw a ball at me going 90+ mph. You better knock me out because if I get up, I'm not dropping that bat when I come to the pitchers mound. If you can throw something at me, I can hit you with this bat. fair is fair to me.
Please do a reminder episode on the 1991 World Series game 6/7. It’s the greatest World Series ever and you guys still haven’t made one about it yet!!
I had T-Mobile until my 10,000,000th time seeing the Suits ad. I now have Verizon.
You can clearly see Clemens wasn't even looking at Piazza when he threw the bat head.
Roger was just fired up when he caught the bat and I think for once he was telling the truth. You could tell he was just amped and kind of startled by the broken about flying at him. He seemed like he was mad it wasn't the ball and just threw it in disgust.
If he thought it was the ball why didn’t he throw it to first base?
Throwing at the base runner is not normal operating procedure.
Piazza was 8-19, 4 HR and 22 RBI vs Clemens in his career.
I get the feeling Clemsons really wanted Piazza to retaliate.
They made a baseball card of Clemens hitting with a broken bat shortly after the incident. I’m proud to say I have a 1/1 printing plate of that card.
And which one is in Cooperstown?
Mets teammates later admitted they lost respect for Piazza not charging
I try not to be revenge minded, but Clemens really should've gotten some sort of penance.
Also, the T-mobile ad was only 2 in a row for me, but I already have that network.
Completely unrelated, but the tapered tail on Piazza's mustache is incredible
God bless UA-cam Premium. No ads, no irritation from anything.
Im actually not that mad at Clemens here. I think he didnt mean to offend, he was just charged up
Yeah, Piazza was one of my favorite players growing up, and all I knew of Clemens was the bat incident, so I thought he was some kind of psycho. But watching this, I really think he was throwing the bat to the dugout, but Piazza was running to first base, and he almost hit him.
I don't think it was intentional. But people want to believe in the drama over the mundane reality.
nah, nah, Clemens vs Piazza needs to be a joust like on American Gladiators back in the day
Well if they ever do become friends Piazza can invite Clemens to Cooperstown to see his HOF bust
Congrats. These tiny hats at this channel made slmething about baseball somewhat interesting.
I didn't know about Clemens blog, yeah Piazza should've checked him
I’ll never forget watching game 1 of the WS at my friends house, we went nuts when Clemens threw the bat at him.
I low key believe that if pitcher have the right to throw 100mph solid balls at batters batters should have the right to swing at pitcher if they're able to get to them
Who's that met @40 secs?
Got Damn T-Mobile I already got a phone and plan with Yall. CHILL OUT!!!
A beef episode between Christoph Daum and Uli Hoeneß would be interesting. It's a well known story in football Germany.
Seriously.....F the unwritten rules
I remember at this time during this beef thinking the whole time Piazza was just scared of him. But now in my 40's he was just way more mature than Clemons immature and petty ass. This from a Yankee fan.
Piazza was definitely shook
If I were Clemens, whether I meant to do it or not, I would just say...
"Look, I'm a Major League pitcher, which means I made a living by throwing things accurately. If I wanted to hit him, he would have been hit."
It’s about time yall did another one that wasn’t basketball 😂😂😂
I think the home run off Clemens by Estes was better as well.
Clemens said he didn't hit Piazza deliberately and he's never given us any reason to question his honesty 😄
NEVER have I been a Mets fan but for the record they showed perfect class
This is why the “unwritten rules“ of baseball have value. People want to castigate the rules, but they have merit. There will never be closure because the rules were not followed.
IMO, clemens shouldnt have hit him at all, even in the back or ribs!! He wasnt being disrespectful or anything. He just had a rew good games against him!! Thats not a good enough reason to hit him!! Hes just a sensitive baby!!🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Need to make a Marlin’s beefing with Ronald Acuna Jr video.
I think it's more likely these two guys don't care about an incident that happened over 20 years ago, and they wouldn't even think about it if the media didn't bring it up. Just laugh at Mike Piazza's split against Roger Clemens, say Clemens had roid rage, and call it a day
secret base why did you fail to mention al leiter from the new york mets.
Roger is that guy that you didn’t know you accidentally pissed off before he’s bright red and barking in your face. 😂
Wish I could afford patreon. Ty for the entertainment fellas.
Piazza wouldn't share his roid hook-up with Clemens. There, gave you the short version.
You guys should explore Randy Johnson and Jorge Posada or Posada and Ivan Rodriguez
