Ok... let me clue you into the way japanese do business. They want to be fair to everyone. All teams were treated equally. He does not want the appearance of playing favorites. Keep this in mind. the Dodgers have had contact with roki sasaki since high school. His favorite mlb team has always been the Dodgers. I think ohtani told him about Torontos facility. So, he went to check it out. The meeting with the pods is out of RESPECT for darvish. And to inform the pods they aren't being selected. He thanks the ownership personally out of respect for the Darvish connection. Very Japanese. Then the last team to announce his decision to sign with the Dodgers. Very Japanese...

    • @GJLCreativeStudios

Please stop with the Sasaki to the Padres because Yu Darvish. Darvish is 39 and has at most, 2-3 years left in the MLB, while Sasaki contract will be for 6 years. Plus, with the entire Padres ownership lawsuit fiasco, Sasaki has no assurance that the new ownership group is going to be committed to keep spending on payroll like the Padres have the last few years, to build the necessary pieces around Sasaki to make a deep postseason run year after year. On the other hand, he can sign with the Dodgers, where he can maximize his commercial value, be a part of a dynasty and have the opportunity to win multiple championships over the next 6 years, play alongside Ohtani and Yamamoto for all 6 years, and utilize the best pitching development organization in baseball.

I do not believe that is the most important metric in his decision. He may be focused on who will give him the best chance to maximize his talent without risking his arm to injury. The Dodgers have had an unusual amount of young pitchers that have developed arm injuries, not sure if it is related to bad luck, philosophical approach, or do they stress their pitchers arms in pursuit of maximum velocity in exchange for long term durability, is it a pattern or just fluke? Who knows.

The Padres are in chaos and cannot guarantee him any of what he wants except to play with Yu Darvish which is a very short term deal at best. San Diego has done nothing this year to improve their team and their ownership is in disarray.
