What an incredible voice. The range, the low end grunt, the extreme falsetto, the growl, the vibrato, all with such control. Easily has a place in the top 5.
and we gotta give props to band, producer, engineers. the arrangements, cutting together of instruments, melodies, rhythms is incredible. like when the big band synth cuts to one synth riff line, jimmy singing solo, "you and me together fighting for our love..." eerie haunting dynamite....
Amazing performance, not just a brilliant recording. You can hear him singing through a clenched jaw at 2:07, by degrees a kind of combined rage and joy unleashes his full voice as he repeats the most powerful phrase in the song.
Jimmy Summerville has an incredible voice. His singing abilities are off the charts. Bronski Beat will always be the best of its time and beyond. Thank you Jimmy and Bronski Beat for the great music
I covered this at a very straight bar in Hollywood at Kareoke. At first when I finished the semi-stuned crowd was silent. Not I person applauded. Then I said back intio the mic, "This is when you clap." and then they erupted like I made a Super Bowl touchdown thingy:)!!!
Yes had this when I was around 18. The people disliking it obviously didn't grow up in this music era .So glad I found it AGAIN really means a lot to me . Will get it AGAIN am 52 now ....never stopped liking this band ....introduced it to my son ...
If you first heard this in 1985, and you were 36 when you made the comment, you must have been born between 1981 and 1983 (you said 36, which could mean anything from "I turned 36 today", to "I'll be 37 tomorrow", and the comment says "1 year ago", which could mean "It was 1 year ago, today", or "It's almost 2 years old"), either way, you're saying you were only between 2 and 4 years old?
I've been a huge fan of Bronski Beat since I was 9 years old (I'm 37 now) imagine my excitement of hearing this song played in a Macy's Store while I was shopping! The first time I've heard a Bronski Beat song being played in a store!
Yep. I think I was 15 or something like that. In what they used to call the gay ghetto back then. It was interesting to say the least. The gay ghetto in Midtown Atl.which is now an upscale but boring, compared to the underground ghetto days. Very underground. It was fun when I was able to get in Weekends at 16 yrs.old. Atl is happening, but don't think I'd live there again.

Strange that this song plays for the first 6 Or 7 mins of an unknown american B movie 'avenging angel' 1985.....it plays over a montage of the sleazy street stuff and carrys on to introduce the villains as they go shooting up some witness in protection. Angel is the school girl by day/ hooker by night ...that goes back on the game to find these villains
Special memories of this song due to a wonderful DJ who used to play it for me at a disco in Streatham Ice Rink. Colin Peters RIP. I never forgot his warm, kind nature and the happiness he shared. 😊
We shouldn't make snap judgements on others, and sexual preference shouldn't matter. But wh n it does, tell me why? Oh, and "Avenging Angel"? I think the film is fun trash (unlike the regular trash, which is no fun to take out at all) . I love Colleen 🥰🤍!
Nordic Hebrew there is no such thing as god you fucking imbecile. If god hates gay people then why did he make them? He’s supposedly omnipotent and omniscient remember
From the best era for music ever. I'm 60 now and still listen to 80's New Wave.
This is one of the best opening tracks for an album ever! That falsetto and then the driving synths!
Yes!

I used to LOVE THIS SONG. ALWAYS PACKED THE DANCE FLOOR.. THIS AND TARZAN BOY BY BALTIMORA. The age of consent is one of the best albums of the 80's
Brilliant
Absolutely
Sadly those days are long gone. All we have are the memories.
Jimmy Summerville has an incredible voice. His singing abilities are off the charts. Bronski Beat will always be the best of its time and beyond. Thank you Jimmy and Bronski Beat for the great music
One of the decisively up beat, with it acts of the early nineties. An incredible sound. Brilliant

Incredibly underrated band and record.
Yes.
But were they underrated?
@@andrewthornhill7042 indeed, they never were. This band and their records were huge
Underrated is the most overrated word on UA-cam.
What a big sound from the 80's danke danke danke

No sane person could dislike a song like this.
I fell in love with his voice when I heard it in Avenging Angel back in 1985. I'm 36 now and still loving it. This and Smalltown Boy
