I am a straight man, when this song came out I was captivated by the sound, I love this stuff and this is as 80's as "dont you want me" I still find it hard to realize that the album was called "the age of consent", and that inequality for gay men was still so prevalent such a short time ago, and its people like this, Marc Almond and many more who have pushed to make the world a better place
Alan: Totally agree. I find it strange that so many people still think you have to be gay yourself in order to appreciate this song - either musically or lyrically (or both).
People don't push the world. The world pushes people. Surfers don't push the wave. This art piece is but an accompaniment to the time and place in history, such as the western world of the 20th century, in which individual freedoms in general, and gay's in particular, had been already enabled by the material culture in the first place, before the epoch's artists came about to sing the epoch's songs. Fuck! this song makes my soul cry. A mix of feelings... my entire life passing through my mind. My favorite song, for sure... the 80's 💛 so fucking amazing
No other song can do this trick - born 1960 I was blessed with beautiful music from the day I was born but this song that came up in 84 takes me on the sentimental voyage like no other - straight to my youth and long gone days that will never come back.
I wasn't allowed to listen to this without my Dad laughing at the "gay potato" and making a big fuss about too many homosexuals on TV. I couldn't listen to it for years because at the time it released even Elton John and George Michael were playing it straight, the idea that a straight man could listen to a gay artist and connect on an emotional level was out of the question. Today I can listen and hear a beautiful, desperate display of vulnerability and emotion that touches the soul of anybody who will listen (and guess what, it didn't 'turn me gay').
This song really spoke to me in a weird way when I moved away from my small town in 1984 at 20 years old... I was being bullied for being different. The really weird thing is I didn't understand English at all back then. It gives me shivers still.
Francis: I'm glad to think that "Vive La Difference" can mean so much more these days. There is NOTHING wrong with being different, we should welcome difference and diversity - it expands our growth as a species. I hope things worked out for the better for you. Stay Strong, Stay Safe.. Z: (PS: And your English seems perfect now)

@@ThomasLaang A humongous one apparently.
2023. It’s my travel song. I can not get over the fact a man sings this
Richard: Yes, Jimmy has a very distinctive voice, I've often been asked who she (the singer in this song) is... Z:
This song really spoke to me in a weird way when I moved away from my small town in 1984 at 20 years old... I was being bullied for being different. The really weird thing is I didn't understand English at all back then. It gives me shivers still.
Francis: I'm glad to think that "Vive La Difference" can mean so much more these days. There is NOTHING wrong with being different, we should welcome difference and diversity - it expands our growth as a species.
I hope things worked out for the better for you. Stay Strong, Stay Safe.. Z: (PS: And your English seems perfect now)
Someone deserves a biscuit. Xxx
@@zhd-net After I moved out of my small town, being different was really a huge advantage. All good.
I grew up in the 80s and love 80s music. I never get tired of this song. This remix is excellent!

Awesome these goosebumps since since 40 years..
This song is as powerful to me in 2021 as it was the day it was released.
