You could have tried to keep them like some people keep dubia cocktoaches. Put them in a big tote for the numbers and pull them out on an egg crate. Shakr them into a container to then feed...
Im a bit late -
If i had biger fish i would try it
Worth a try!
Look up water bottles with screw in sections for infusing fruit/vegetables. I bet something like that would work perfectly
Thanks for the suggestion.
Put your beans in a net and glue the net to the bottom of whatever... you're welcome..
Thanks, Gino, for the suggestion.
Sounds like a protein shaker cup is something that would get the job done
Howdy Christian,
Thanks for the tip! I had no idea what that was, so I just googled them. They may indeed be just the thing. I'll take a look at some and see how big the screen is.
With all your videos on the myriad of live food choices you show us on them is great. Kinda the good the bad and the not so good. keep up the advice much appreciated, especially on the rice crispies vid, brilliant tip. Cheers :)
Just curious...Are rice crispies available in the UK?
Oh yes, ha,ha I thought we invented them! Another note have you had a look at the wide necked water bottles that have a central container within to put sliced fruit in, to flavour your water. I am not totally certain if grate wide enough or not, you would have to have a look yourself? In Uk you can get them from our bargain shops for a pound or a very expensive one as well from sport shop. Just a thought. :)
Thanks...I'll look into the infusion bottles!
Try a gold finch thisle seed feeding sock
Ry,
That is worth checking out...thanks for the tip!
You may use the salt bottle kind that have another top but beans would becomes dust, not sure all those dust waste may contained eggs that about to hatch. I can imagine they all over my house. 😱 I have too much imagination lol. I will pass this thank you for video.
I ended up getting rid of the bean beetles. Not a bad food, but not as good an fruit flies.
It is NOT fine that they fly :-)
Someone needs to make that horror flick...beetle attack!!!
What about using the backing for needlepoint people use in breeding tanks. Could be easily attached to a length of PVC which would replace the paper tube.
Howdy Litha,
Thanks for sharing your idea. I thought about using needlepoint backing as well. The issue is that the holes in it are too small to shake the beetles through easily.
Great info. Thanks
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
I have never heard of these. Thanks for making and uploading this video. Cheer.
You are welcome...thanks for watching!
Appreciate the information on the different cultures. I have only grown micro worms.. nasty... I have some vinegar eels and another micro worm culture coming in the mail. I have baby betta hatching in a few days. This video helped Thank you for sharing.
Good luck with the baby bettas! They are awesome fish.
What about the larva how hard are they to harvest?
Howdy Thomas,
Good question! I should have talked about that in the vid. The life cycle of the bean beetle is that the adults lay eggs on the beans. The eggs hatch, and the larvae immediately burrow into the bean. They stay inside the bean and don't emerge until they have become full adults. Unfortunately, the only way to get at the larvae would be to break them out of the beans.
Best,
Dan
