    When I know I am going out to eat I look up the menu (if possible) before I leave the house and figure out what fits my eating requirements the best. I don't order a drink or dessert. Ice water with lemon slice works just fine. I concentrate on the conversation with friends and take home what I don't eat. Sometimes I can get 3 or 4 extra meals from that one. I live alone so it's possible. When I come prepared I can really enjoy the time.

    Two tips for long term weight loss. 1. Lower portion size by at least half. Americans have a tendency to eat twice as much food that we need to. 2. Keep track of everything you put in your mouth. Once you write it down or take pictures of all that you eat you’ll realize just how much volume of food you are eating. I can only speak from experience. I lost 90 lbs six years ago and have kept it off practicing these two simple things.

    Insulin resistance is said to be present in up to 60% of people with weight management problems.
    If you comtinue to eat carbs and sugars there's no energy getting into the cell to power the mitochondria- insulin is being triggered by the pancreas and is getting sent to fat storage mode.
    This is why keto is getting popular - the ability to ditch sugar and glycogen burning and use ketones made by the liver instead.

    • @NLR759
      @NLR759 3 роки тому

      Carbs do not cause insulin resistance. High fat diets, and high levels of fat in the cells, block insulin receptors, thereby not allowing the insulin to work properly, and the consequence of that is high blood sugar. High blood sugar is a symptom of insulin resistance, it is not the cause of insulin resistance. Cut fatty food, and refined oils out of the diet, and the insulin resistance resolves itself. Insulin receptors are no longer blocked by fat, allowing the insulin to work properly, and allowing glycogen into the cells to be used for energy. Dr. Neal Barnard explains this very well in this talk: ua-cam.com/video/lLqINF26LSA/v-deo.html

    I completely agree with the comment about sharing one meal between two when eating out. My husband and I often do this if we get a takeaway but if we eat at a restaurant it feels rude to ask if we can do this. We need to change our culture so that this is more acceptable.

    To the effect of what Brad said at 6:30.... I started eating one slice of bread, where normally I would eat two, also, No buns, when I grill a hamburger, I toast a piece bread, cut it in half, and use that as my (Crunchy) Bun Substitute... Tis pretty good.
    Anyways, when you finally cut out most refined sugars, fill up instead on Apple's, and Carrots and such, Hummus, Guac, Eggs, Peanut butter, celery, Quality Meat.
    You really start to lose that belly fat!

    • @garyfarm
      @garyfarm 3 роки тому

      Apples are pure sugar (does not matter if it's natural) and carrots instantly spike insulin (very high glycemic level). Cut out all sugar, your body does not need sugar.

    • @gabrielgagne3850
      @gabrielgagne3850 3 роки тому

      @@garyfarm not if it bound in fibre, it reacts differently in the body. Your foods glucose should be released slowly through the day. The body especially the brain can work better with a reliable source of fuel, a non fibre food like white bread will release it all at once and stored because there’s nothing else to do with it. You want energy throughout the day, not all at once in30min with a crash.

    Write down EVERYTHING you eat/drink for 1 month, every snack, every meal, every drink, including water. Do this faithfully for 1 month and you will learn your weakness. What did I learn, I eat healthy everyday, I drink enough water. BUT, when I snack, I eat the entire BAG of chips or cookies, I was drinking too much beer and I was eating rice, potatoes or some type of carb with every meal. Portion control the snacks, put what I want in a bowl, put the rest away, removed carbs from my lunches completely and switched from beer to wine. I also get my but out of the chair at work 1X every hour to do 2 minutes of exercise. It has helped my flexibility, mood AND I have lost 12 pounds so far.

    On eating out: if you can't share the meal, ask for a to-go box at start of meal (or bring your own), then when the food comes, immediately pack up at least half of it. Not only is it more sanitary to do this before you start eating, the leftovers are more appealing when they're untouched. I do enjoy your videos - lots of good information! I was in a bad wreck in 2005 that left me partially disabled, and have done probably 30 months of PT over the years since then for various things, and it's great to have your videos to remind me of proper form and exercises.

    It is impossible to loose fat from any specific location by targeting that location. When you excersize/move your body converts the fats in your body to glucose and it is pumped all around your body in your blood and is utilized by your muscles when they are being contracted. There is a fantastic book by Ruben Meerman called big fat myths that scientifically debunks the common misconception that most people believe about wieght loss. Even some of the ones you guys are talking about. A basic balanced diet with a calorie intake lower than what you are burning will result in right loss.

    Try a low carb, high fat, moderate protein ketogenic diet. Was 186 lbs about 8-9 weeks ago and I'm down to 164 lbs and I work out twice a week. I do deadlifts, pullups, skip rope, use kettle bells, resistance bands, etc.. For many years I worked out four days a week for two hours each session; however, I could never reduce my belly fat. The ketogenic diet changed all this; you can read up on the benefits of being on a keto diet and perhaps read studies on PubMed.

      @yingbxua6240 5 років тому +1

      actually I think you can afford having Chinese food once in a while(if this is what you meant), but you need to work out hard and make you calorie balance negative. If you know you want to each Chinese on this day - cut down all other food intake to minimum, walk 10 km, or work out and eat. As long as you sent more calories than you taken you are going to loose weight. Consistency is the key, occasional Chinese food will not make you fat - constant over eating and not moving will. Good luck !

And I grew up in a Latin country where rice (and beans) are eaten every single day and I was underweight until I was 18, had to try hard to gain some weight. I began having problems with my weight after I moved to the U.S. and began eating a lot of processed and sugary foods (with the preservatives, colorings, etc.). First of all, genetics play a role with the type of shape you have. Secondly, delay eating in the mornings to 9am or 10 am and stop eating at 4pm. Will Smith said that he stops eating at 4pm, I tried it and losing weight works faster than any gym. The key is to pack all your nutrients during this time. That works for me plus you can, do some very fast running for 100 or 200 metres once per week. Surgery, sono Bella, liposuction are options to keep that small waist and broad hips. If exercise doesn’t work, be very happy with the body the creator gives you. Ignore the naysayers, you have one life to live, enjoy. One love

    Dear Bob and Brad, (don't mind my username its an old alias) I've enjoyed many of your videos and i applaud what you do here on your channel. Having said that i would like to offer some constructive thoughts as i am an advocate of scientifically proven evidence-based practices and methods when it comes to exercise and nutrition (NASM personal trainer my self). Through my years of studying these subjects i have come across what the industry shows to be some of the best people regarding knowledge & contribution in these subjects and since you are also preparing a video i would like to share their names as researching them and their body of research/work will greatly assist in your efforts to present accurate, research based information.
    Here are some of the people who are on top of their respective fields, offer vast knowledge, contribute through science and can be found online for anyone to benefit : (leaving titles like Dr etc out, so here is just the names) Brad Schoenfeld, Eric Helms, James Krieger, Martin McDonald, Spencer Nadolsky, Layne Norton. There are many others but these come to mind at the moment as the most prominent and evidence-based professionals. One more name has offered a lot through research and their career and is worth looking into despite their recent transgressions which are not a subject of discussion on this comment and that is Alan Aragon.
    Wish you all the best.

    It's not that complicated. To lose belly fat you have to be on a caloric deficit, which means making sure you only eat a certain amount of calories everday, plus add some exercise to help accelerate the process.
    The biggest mistake people make is simply eating too many calories everday. You're not gonna outwork a bad diet.

    • @garyfarm

      Limit your carbs and your body will eat the fat for energy.

    • @NLR759

      If it was that simple, no one would be over weight. Most people who try calorie counting diets fail, and eventually regain all the weight.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO 3 роки тому

      @@NLR759, Counting calories is not necessary. It's simple enough to figure out that eating less will drop weight. At the same token, people shouldn't starve themselves. This is where nutrition and exercise come to play. Eating nutritious food, avoiding junk food, exercising. There's a right balance, and this right balance is unique to everybody.
      But the #1 culprit of excess body fat is simply eating too much.

I feel like I’m as strong as my 20s and the recovery on my workouts is certainly better. I’m 50 btw. You can smack your head but I know what is working for me. And all the signs tested say so as well. Last week my body was rated as a 35 year old. When I was on the standard American diet before that it was rated as a 59 year old, presiabetic and early signs of heart disease and circulatory problems. So yeah go smack your head again.
