    You guys are the best! Your real and direct, to the point and after being away from any type of exercise for several years I'm now afraid I might injure myself in the gym, with the bands I can start slow and get back to lifting heavier weights. Thank you again, I always turn to you guys for answers I cant get anywhere else!

      Su Su
      Step ups with dumbbells and supine bridges. These Docs have demonstrated the bridges but I don’t know which video. Keep searching them. They teach lower risk exercises for all muscle groups.

    • @jeanniegarcia9002
      @jeanniegarcia9002 6 років тому +5

      Su Su what these fellows are talking about can be utilized to mimic weightlifting and the effect on the body should be much the same. Deadlifts are my favorite exercise and considered a compound exercise as they work so many different muscle groups but if they hurt you and your back, perhaps your posture is bad while doing them? Or perhaps your corps isn’t strong and needs some toning up first?They helped my back become stronger and hurt less but o had to change the way I did them. Ended up being able to pull some pretty decent weight after that. Replacing that big exercise would be tough. Dumbbells are fine but then you risk the same posture issues and back pain. Perhaps (this might sound silly) you might take up basic yoga to strengthen your back and core and add these bands for cable pulls and such to the yoga. It’s just a thought and hard to give advice without watching you or knowing how bad your back might be. But this system is excellent. But if your stomach or back is injured then everything might hurt you - that’s why I suggested yoga for tone and flexibility as an addition to the weights or bands. Best of luck.

      You don't really need any equipment except for a pull-up bar (and you can even get away without that if you have a sturdy table).
      Pullups (or inverted rows), pushups, tiger pushups for triceps, chinups for biceps, pistol squats (assisted if you like by squatting onto a staircase step/chair & holding onto a wall or chair), hamstring curls, crunches, hip thrusts (only need a chair), "superman" holds for lower back.
      And the only thing you need is a little pull-up bar and a door frame.

    Hi - can you guys please comment on children's hip joints (and back) vs. baby carriers like BabyBjorn?
    Is it ok? What about "head-facing-adult" vs "head-head facing forward"? It feels like a lot of pressure on the groin area. Also, the weight carrying part seems to in effect become rather thin - kind of like sitting on a rope between one's legs.
    Sorry for the off topic question.

  • @JoeDaFivefoota

    Resistance is needed for muscle growth and weights are IMO the best for that.

    The best thing I have done for my health has been intermittent fasting, 16 hr fast/8hr eating window. Insulin levels stay in check, have lost 20 lbs barely exercising and eating 2 big meals a day.

    • @Caocao8888
      @Caocao8888 6 років тому +1

      I admire your discipline! I am 6'1", 165 lbs, just by watching what and how much I eat. (Although I did polish off a 2.2-pound panettone in 2 days, heh, heh.). Wanting to lose at least 5 pounds, I tried fasting a few times, but I just could not do it. The closest I ever got was having a late lunch. No joke. I really did try, but I'm weak. So your 16-hour fasts are an amazing accomplishment.

    • @monp.4903
      @monp.4903 6 років тому +1

      Caocao8888 thank you! At first it was hard, when Istarted I stopped the morning snacking, then pushed breakfast later in the morning as much as I could, then now just eat big lunch and a small snack pre-gym before I get off work and then a small dinner if I get home hungry. For men fasting is even better than for women, human growth hormones levels increase, mentally more aware. Lots of reasons to try it, even if it's just once or twice per week! Check out Dr Eric Berg and Dr Jason Fung here on youtube, lots of great info on health in general as well! As a male, for you to lose 5 lbs is easy! You can do it in one week! :-)

    Well I don't know about cardio versus your theraband exercises as a head-to-head, other than changing it up once in a while (your exercise routine) must have a benefit... I.e. you'd notice a difference if you only did your band routine and then switched to cardio... I am one of those people that looks and is overweight, but i could run 12 miles if I wanted (subject to injuries) even though I've not been running or to the gym recently. For me I have to do at leat 45 mins of cardio (running) 3 or 4 times a week to see any benefit in body fat, and I mean running not slow jogging, but this then leads to injuries and I have to back off it again. The reason I am overweight is mainly because I eat like a horse, that is if horses were aloud to eat biscuits and muffins all day long! Anyway the best bit about this video is you ditched the shirts and trousers and went for more athletic apparel - good look, I imagine the demographic just got a healthy boost with young and female viewers rather than just us middle aged suited men - although not sure we really needed to see those knees! ;-)

      Buy a door-frame pull up bar from amazon. And buy the resistance bands these guys are selling and wrap those around the pull up bar. You can also buy TRX type of resistance bands and hang 'em to your pull-up bar. OR, another option is to join your local gym.

I'm on a low, fixed income, and cannot afford the $86 a month the local gym charges. I just need to learn how to do these exercises without having a solid anchor. I can take the bands with me when I walk the track at the high school, using the solid metal fence posts, but not at home.

      Judith Neeley : Medical insurers sometimes give highly discounted gym memberships to seniors, and often source you specialized gyms to your need. Ask yours if they offer such a program.

      I am a licensed independent insurance agent who specializes in Medicare plans. What you mention is called 'silver sneakers' in my region. That is not offered in my HMO, and I cannot afford to switch to a supplement plan instead of the hmo. Plus, the gym included in the supp plan that offers silver sneakers is too far away. Thanks for mentioning this, however,

    Am I the only one who can't get their videos loud enough to hear?! I've had to stop watching them because they're not loud enough. Don't have this problem with other channels!

      It sounds as if they're not close enough to the microphone . The microphone placement will make all the difference. You're right, it's not loud enough

      physicaltherapyvideo Actually this was weird because usually I have to glue my 👂 to my tablet to hear you i.e. that often I simply stop watching your videos as I have to choose between hearing & seeing. But I could hear this video perfectly 🤔.

    Like the idea of resistance bands being easier on my joints, but I have this crazy fear of them snapping and breaking and hitting me!!! Any advice? I'm so afraid to use them! Anyone else out there with the same fear? :P

      And make sure to check the bands/tubes for wear! After several years of use, I started to see thin spots and little dry scaly parts that looked weak, so I replaced them in fear of exactly what you describe. :-)

      Purchase bands with sleeves - if they break or snap the band is contained within the sleeve

    The most effective way to lose weight is through limiting caloric intake. Cardio on top of this helps, and as cardiac muscle is the most important muscle in the body, it should be performed regardless. The best way to fight against being "skinny-fat" is lifting weights.

      Calorie counting does not work. It is impossible for the average person to do calorie counting. Now the easiest way to reduce calories for the vast majority of people is to eat a healthy diet of fibre focused vegetables and light amounts of meat such as fish or chicken and a little red meat.
      It is not an exact method meaning you will not know what your calorie levels are but eating lots of fibre will mean that a person will find it difficult to eat large quantities calorie intense food.

      If you cook in bulk and plan your meals calorie counting is very easy. But yes, eating lots of vegetables and a high protein diet is a shortcut. Red meat can also be quite lean depending on the cut, and fish can be high in fat.

    For physical therapists you are showing people that are subscribed to your channel improper form. In particular, the posture that was demonstrate in the exercises in this video are absolutely horrible. It's clear that you made this video to market this for your personal gain. Come on guys, I've seen some good content on your channel before. No offense, but this is total crap and has ruined your credibility as therapists in my eyes.
