OMG yes. Play Lara's home first. When I played TR Anniversary back in the day, I thought Lara's home was a mini game that I could skip. After I finished the game, I played Lara's home and realized it was a tutorial and realized things would have been so much easier if I had played it first.
Another tip. Do back and side jumps when shooting, it works in both controls. Also learn hidden moves, like pressing O/B to roll during either forward or backwards jump for a flip. For long, running jumps, do not try to press jump at the very last second, either hold or button-mash the jump buttong a step or two earlier, it will work. One-block-height surfaces can be jumped onto without grabbing the edge if you stand far enough behind. Very helpful when fighting animals to jump onto the blocks without putting guns down. Eventually you will intuitively know how much length each move goes for, and it will help as all levels are made on a grid. Exploit that. Shotgun is OP in first game so use that on bosses if you want to drain their health fast.
That "finish the level first" is a great shout. I saved in the middle of the temple level in TR2 and when I came back I didn't know what I was doing for a while 😂
It’s especially true in levels with a lot of back-tracking. If you leave mid-way and then come back, you often can’t remember if this is the first or second time you visited that area!
Amen on photo mode! Man I've been able to check places for traps before i jump down and figure out where stuff is before wasting time running around, I love it! I've got these games so memorized as many times as I played them growing up, but i still get stuck! Loving all the improvements with the remasters ❤
Most of the traps are visible or have a special marks by level design like dead body. Just use look around button (it’s most important button in classic TR games). Same for secret searching - look around and you can find all possibilities without walkthroughs.
@@JayDi85 look around button controls like ass, better to use right analog stick instead. Finding all secrets without walkthrough is insane, there are those like in Tomb of Tihocan that you have one chance to get or lose them forever (slide jump left), walkthroughs are really helpful.
@@georginagiethoorn6543 not in two and three, bc enemies spawn rather than wait in hiding to be triggered like in TR1. As a 90s OG fan, it’s still very challenging even when using photo mode to search a room
A trick that has saved me countless medipacks is to seek a safe spot to kill the nearby enemies. In TR1 most of the nemies are animals so fighting them from high ground completelly nullifies them as a threat same as shooting a water animal from the ground. The enemies that ambush Lara in corridors are mostly best to dispatch them with a shotgun and the ones with guns are best to kill them with powerfull weapons such as magnums, MP5, Desert eagle, you name it as Lara looses a lot of HP if using guns.
Dude, I’m traumatized by the invisible keys in the cistern… I had to watch a walkthrough (thanks Suzanne the Raider!)! Now I’m switching to the old graphics every now and then! Really good advice!
I spent so long wandering around that level, walking past the keys on numerous occasions, I ended up turning on the action indicators, which I really don't like, but found it a necessity to be able to see some pickups and switches, the new graphics really do obscure quite a lot
@@hammond8692yup! Same thing happened in the Fornace of the Gods, I was swimming around like a fool 😂😂😂 Turned on the action indicators as you did, I don’t have more hair to tear 😫
I Was stuck on the Cistern for 3 hours looking for keys, I refuse to look it up online, I wanted to find it myself haha, and after 3 hours I accidently switched to the old graphics and I saw the key, I also had my action indicators turned off so there was no exclamation telling me there was an item 😂
On PC there's a mod that makes them more visible, it was probably the second mod to be released after, you know... anyway Epic games version had keys visible so we'll be getting a patch eventually that fixes it on consoles too.
For Lara's home: do the Tomb Raider 2 or 3 version before playing the first game. Don't need to complete the gauntlet with timer but practice the run length and side jumps on those poles, it's very helpful.
Love you channel bro! These remasters rekindled a love of these classic games from my childhood that has me more nostalgic than anything ever in my life before! And channels like yours and Axmania have been absolutely phenomenal finds!
Newcomers should try tank controls, but classic players should totally try modern controls just for that old-school "how the hell do I control this woman" nostalgia.
Can't stress Lara's Home enough if you're new. I was talking to my friend who was playing for the first time and he was talking about how there was a delay with the jumps and how he couldn't do simple jumps and this and that. So I started nagging him to just play LH. He bitched for another 10 minutes when I told him to just play the fucking tutorial. 3 minutes of silence later I hear "ooooh" then all was well in the world and he was having a blast.
I believe in the original ps1 manual it was mentioned to play this first. Helps the best. The only thing they don’t teach I think is the swan dive and handstand!
Good list, I'll add two😉 1. Save regularly/often, and maintain a separate save at the beginning and/or the end of each level - yes, you'll have to do that yourself😉; 2. 'When in doubt, (try to) shout it out!'🔫
As someone who is new to the Tomb Raider Franchise i will use all of these special Tricks except the Cheat Codes. I have no Problem if It takes me some Time to finish Levels.
I'm gonna say now, don't listen when he says don't conserve ammo, take every opportunity to deal with enemies whilst out of reach. In TR1, that goes for practically every enemy that isn't a boss up until later when they start using projectiles, this is when you need to break out the big guns if you want any chance of surviving. TR2 dials this up to 11, with projectile enemies showing up as early as level 2, good luck!!!
I only used photo mode for the trophy. And yes, the tank controls are way better. The "modern" controls just don't work for me, especially when platforming.
When finishing a level >go> Next level... your health is (in old PC versions) reset to 100%. No need to use up a health pack if you are near level end.
Another tip to add on top for anyone is if you prefer modern controls but at a point during a level the camera moves to a fixed camera angle messing up your movement controls. Instead of pausing having to go through your menu screen and changing modern controls to tank controls. Then finishing the jump or moving somewhere out of the fixed camera. Then spending time switching back to modern controls. Just hit the free look button then hit it again to get out of look mode. The fixed camera will change back to free rotating camera. Just going in and out of free look mode will save so much time over navigating through the menus twice to switch back and forth between modern controls and tank controls during fixed camera sections.
I’m a newcomer, played every other Tomb Raider but not the og 3, been playing with modern controls and I’ve actually really enjoyed it, it hasn’t really frustrated me yet and I’ve finished the 1st and 2nd games and I’m halfway through the 3rd 😁
With both tank and modern, you are mostly only holding forward. All you have to learn to make the switch to tank is cornering 90° turns while running. Once you start to learn this, you won't go back to modern. It's really fun when you realize you are ready to make the switch. I started with modern, then tank controls, eventually with only using the d-pad. 😊
Tank controls are best. Learn to walk to front of a block then d-pad back for the long jump. Where accurate jumps use d-pad. Also side to side jumping d-pad. However if you need to be squirrely on a jump (times flame columns) try running around and analog it. General running analog controls are fine but never in tight spots!
Great video. I really loved it when you encouraged people to play Tank controls. To be honest these controls and the camera are still the best for these block game. I hope loads of new players give them a try. Hope you enjoyed these remastered games. Steve 👍
Hey Steve, thanks very much for your comment. I am busy with Final Fantasy 7 now but I did enjoy them and will definitely enjoy the rest as soon as I get back to them! 💪
I can play the game perfectly fine in both the tank or modern controls, I mastered both, and came to the conclusion that the modern controls are just better.
I don’t believe you. Have you finished the game with modern controls? Tr1 is fine but tr2.. There are times when modern controls make camera glitch and stuck on the floor or ceiling while diving and you cannot move lara at all anymore without loading the game and some jumps and tricks you absolutely need are completely missing in modern controls like turning in precision, quick sidejumps and backjumps, and little tapping backwards. You can do it with modern too but only with weapons drawn but what if you need quickly to grab the ledge after that, you cannot do it with weapons drawn. I hate that they did not fix the camera and it it tied to the movement in modern controls. Lara also ends up circling in tilted corridors when camera quickly rotates around lara.
@@TaijaT76 I finished tomb raider 1 on modern controls, I'm now halfway through tombraider 2. It works perfectly fine. If the camera gets in a weird position, just press the look button, as this will readjust the camera. I mastered both controls, modern controls are easier and more fun. Every movement can be done in both controls, if you know how it works and get the hang of it, the modern controls are just better.
@@georginagiethoorn6543 wait until you finish lol.. no it doesn’t reset the camera, I tried everything. I know how to reset the camera but there are levels it gets stuck if you don’t know where you are diving and look around (don’t). I play with modern controls but I hate them. I have played tomb raider for years when it first released. And now I play with modern because tank controls are too easy. But modern is are stilll very bad and sloppy work compared to tank controls. Generally movement is better with modern but all the precison is really gone and they are really bad for jumping.
It makes it too easy, I don't like this feature at all. You have a much better gaming experience not knowing what's around the corner. And just playing blind. Using photo mode is for toddlers, it's makes it too easy and you lose so much experience about what makes this game so great, the immersion is completely gone when using photo mode
Perhaps, although it allows me to sit back and think of different ways to approach the next challenge strategically while minimizing frustration. It's there as an option & as a last resort.@@georginagiethoorn6543
"Complete the level before switching off" really got me, I constantly would come back to levels, and not know what in gods name i was to be doing, no matter how simple it was. backtracking to no end
how do adjust lara inwards from one shelf to another shelf that is in line, ie after you launch her forward. may be called a banana jump? i cannot do that yet
I adore tomb raider 1-3 remastered, 2 is my favourite of all time i bought from the beginning in the PlayStation 1 days in 1996, a great guide for tips for new players which is fantastic, one thing i would add is the advanced tip for advanced players its the one step jump so if you make Lara walk instead of making her do two steps do one step then go straight into a jump takes a bit of practice that's for those who are fluent with the games inside out. ♥️🌟😎
I admit that the idea of using the photo mode to explore efortlessly blew my mind. I haven't thought about this at all, I've only been using it to take silly pictures X'DDDDDD
I can beat TR1 without cheating, but for TR2 & 3, yeah I have to resort to it and I'm glad the original cheats still work! I figured out that I may sometimes need to use the old graphics when I just couldn't see a certain switch in one of the TR2 levels because it was too dark, but then when I switched to the old graphics I was like "oh, there it is!"
Yeah, I noticed because I was constantly switching graphics to see the difference and was surprised with the amount of switches and items that I missed! 😅
I agree with the tips, but I have some comments: - I wouldn’t normally use the photo mode for navigation, to avoid ruining the suspense of exploration and surprises. Otherwise, it can be very helpful if I’m stuck in a place already explored, and don’t want to run in circles. Also can help searching for secrets. - I really recommend giving adequate chance for thinking to figure out solutions, before watching walkthroughs. It’s more satisfying when you do it yourself. - Yes, making a separate save slot for the start of each level is a great idea.
Yo great video and editing! I agree with all of them but ugh, I kinda wish photo mode didn't allow you to basically cheat and see the path ahead without taking Lara there and it exposes parts of the environment you're not meant to see 😅
for pc players, pressing forward and back at the same time is another roll key which for me personally i use this more than the actual roll key which is bound to end by default or something stupid like that, plus you can also bind pretty much every key you need in the game to the left side of the keyboard so i control the game with left hand and the one key i kept at the right is the look button which was bound to numpad 0 by default, that's just my binds but don't be afraid to experiment with changing keybinds if the defaults are terrible for you (i know the sprint button in 3 is awful)
As a guy who grew up with these games, here's my feedback : 0:48 - Play Lara's Home Absolutely, some subtle moves can be encountered at the very beginning of the first levels 1:45 - Do not Save Ammo or Health Wasting shells or rockets on monkeys and facing later bosses with mere pistols and few healthpacks won't help 2:32 - Complete the Level before Switching off Two words : Lud's Gate 3:22 - Give Tank Controls a Chance! The game was designed for it, doing otherwise is a painful unlearning process. So, yes. I definitely agree on this one 4:20 - Use Photo Mode to Explore! Soft cheat is a cheat 5:06 - Swap Between Modern and Classic Graphics I couldn't agree more since many places aren't translated well and some items are quasi invisible 5:50 - Watch Walkthroughs on UA-cam Do not ruin your exploration, guides are supposed to be the very last resort 6:30 - SPECIAL - Use the Cheat Codes Hard cheat is a cheat 7:27 - Video Ending Good video !
@@BartolisHideoutGaming I sure did. I simply gave a honest feedback according to what I experienced so far as a 36 years old dude, your content isn't compromised and your approach is the best for modern audience and newcomers alike
Great video man, and really nice tips! I especially abuse the toggle feature almost constantly, because the remastered graphics are too dark sometimes (while other times the original graphics are too dark, and I need to switch to the remastered graphics! 😅). I think your video here will be a great service to many new players! 😎
Thank you my friend. Yes I initially saw myself switching graphics just to admire the work they put in but at some point I was like let me switch to see if I missed something 🤣
The big issue I have with modern controls is that there are certain percussion movements that are basically required in a lot of areas which literally can't be performed. Such as rotating on the spot or walking side to side. Also the camera changes which leads to unintended line of sight issues. A Hybrid mode would be the best.
Yes, why not add a button to quickly change back old controls, like they did it with graphics or at least d pad would be old style movement and the stick would be the modern somehow.
@@TaijaT76 yeah. Idk how you would make the layout on controller. You could probably keep most of the buttons to function the same then change a few things while holding or after pressing something like LB. but keyboard they should just let you use the direction keys to do the tank movement while the WASD does the modern
im no newcomer and i did start with TRII right away... 18hours later i finished it, only now im moving to TRI :) having a blast with this. the save and load instantly is the best feature of this remake by far!!! anyone remembers how long it took to save and load back in the day?
TR2 save system is exactly the same (if I am not mistaken) it is a big change for TR1 and specially TR3 (as it was much needed cause it is way too hard with the Crystals Save System)
Easy way to do running jump: walk slowly backwards to end of one cubic floor and then hold run and hold jump few miliseconds later. Lara will jump from the edge of cubic floor (even if you pressed jump earlier than edge)
Not sure if it's a great "trick" but to experiment with the ways you fight bosses throughout the game. Mainly late bosses like torso, natla, bartolli, the doctor, etc etc. (can be useful on "minibosses" aswell) Not talking about the speed run glitches to skip them but actually alternate tactics to beat them
I played the originals when they came out. I tried for a couple of hours using modern controls and the camera drove me nuts so I'm reliving the glory days with tank controls. Maybe I will try again with modern, but I wasn't seeing how I would manage some of the trickier combination jumps with that setup. Also never used cheats, but I played on PS1 so I'm not sure that was accessible. Also never got to do any of the expansion levels because of that, so I'm looking forward to those now.
I can only recommend you all to switch between the graphics because in modern graphics it's much easier to miss keys, as they are not as visible than they are in sprite form in the original graphics.
i should be proud of myself that i finished TR1 and 2 without a single hint tip walkthrough or cheat back in the day, same cant be said for 3 though., that game was a nightmarish slog. once i finished it using the save crystal and weapons cheat, i never went back to it again
Well the thing is you don't need the pick up icons turned on. If you want to see if there are any pick ups just switch to the older graphics. The world was 3d but the pickups are 2D so they tend to stand out. Stick with your pistols as much as possible as the ammo pickups while plentiful don't add a lot of ammo to your reserves unless you hunt those secrets. Try to get as many secrets as possible as they usually have rare ammo's or medpacks in them as well. When jumping, keep the grid system in mind. Once you know how many squares lara can jump with a normal and run jump you will easily be able to tell when such a jump is needed.
I honestly would advise against using the classic graphics to light up areas, that's what the flares are for which now have a genuine purpose outside a few select areas and I would also recomend using the tank controls for platforming and modern for combat.
Modern is HORRIBLE for combat!! That’s my main gripe about TR1 at least. The controls get wonky and a struggle to keep enemies in front of you. And u have to hold more buttons to back flip smh combat is just too tough
Tank controls will always be superior in my eyes, but that's because I played the OG games in the 90s , and it feels morre natural to me. And NEVER forget to save regularly, thee game doesn't autosave at any point.
Yep, I finished a level and started the next….. died and thought ok, no big deal… they started me back at the previous level smh they could at least save automatically when u finish a level, but nope
I remember back when TR1 first came out I was the friend that you called to come help you get through the puzzles. None of us had a computer back then I guess we was all poor so we never knew there was cheat codes and I was today years old when I found out about the cheat codes. Not gonna lie on TR3 to get those weapons in the beginning where your in the water I can't remember how I got them. That grenade launcher or missile launcher whatever you want to call it is super hard to get right now for me. I did pick up a missile or grenade that looks like a missile to me anyway and I got a shotgun and the mp5 I think it's called. But I can see the launcher but I just can't get over to it and I fall in the water and the current takes me away. I'm not moving pass that part until I get it. I did it back in the day I can do today. Man these games are awesome and I don't care what anyone says. The older classics are better than the newer Tomb Raider games. I hope when they make a new Tomb Raider game it ain't nothing like survivor Laura and is more like the old Laura. I'm not to big into those open world TR games either.
I wish in new graphics you could turn off the skybox /lighting to original. The t-Rex with dark sky in a dark room at night will make you jump for the first time!!
Great video for the most part, but to say don't conserve ammo only to then mention the cheats for obtaining more guns and ammo is rather shortsighted. The conservation of resources and deciding when to use them is part of the strategy in these games. You need to find ways to deal with enemies without taking too much damage, which can often be solved by using your environment to your advantage. If you just cheat to obtain the higher powered guns and just blast everything you're taking away a significant part of the experience IMO. When you play these games you want to feel like a survivor, not just an adventurer.
Tip: Don’t take the easy route. Challenge yourself to learn some parkour, and you’ll be amazed at how easy it becomes to move through some areas with the right moves. Learn to side-jump and get through tight spaces without stopping Lara to adjust the camera. Use your sense of space and see how good you can be without relying on the camera.
This would be good for a SECOND run through. Nobody tryna die millions of times, we tryna beat the game. All the extra should be after you beat the game already and wanna test yourself
The games *AREN'T* hard. I managed to beat them, as a 13yo, back in 97, as my 1st computer games, on our 1st PC. The difficulty is just fine. The thing is that games nowadays have become so easy, and hold players' hands so often, that they present no challenge at all.
For you maybe these aren't since you beat them thousands of times, but for someone who has no clue about classic tomb raiders, those games are gonna be a nightmare, especially TR3
Yeah I stopped playing action adventure games because they are mind numbing dull nowadays. I mostly build basebuilding games anymore. They are increasingly difficult. Focus of the grind and difficulty has changed genre. Gamers are pampered so they think like a modern gamer and assume not to die if you do not do anything special or be extra be careful.
@@zeniktorres4320 sure, not being so young really helps increasing the difficulty, but there are those tricks in the video that would help. But to younger people than me say they're difficult? That's just them being spoiled.
@@trafikantes4204 actually, no. Maybe TR2, some 3 times. Twice for 1 and 3. 4 and 5 also once. Agreed that 3 is the hardest, specially if you choose a certain stage last. But then again, having grown with classic TR games helped develop an innate sense of exploration, that helps me with every game I played ever since. TR 2013 got completed with 100% secrets found and tombs completed, 1st try, and without using that survivor's instinct BS, nor unlocking the perks that help you with exploring/finding stuff.
Yes to all of this 🔥👏 Especially Croft manor. And using the damn ammo and medi packs! Other tricks: - The look button resets camera. Like if there’s a fixed camera or an in game cutscene that shows you where a door is. Or even when just standing. - Lara can shoot from a speedboat in all TR games. (Learned that here ua-cam.com/video/ZzNGTs6voWQ/v-deo.htmlsi=gSczMhniNm_-XF46).
heads up for players; cheats deactivate achievements for that specific save. however there is an achievement for tr1 to use the level skip cheat, so make sure to make a new save after collecting it!
Good Tips ut careful using Cheats. It will block some Trophys so u never can get the Platnum one. Only the LvL skip Cheat in TR1 does not block any Achievement.
'Don't save your supplies' Tell that to my stubborn try hard hoarder brain 😖 Joks aside ,these games were a great ego boost back then and they still are
These remasters lack polish in certain areas. They should have made sure important interactive objects are always clearly visible. They should have nade an option to have mission waypoints so you do not need a walkthrough (which lessens the enjoyment). The should include a mix of modern (left thumbstick) and tank controls (dpad) mode and some actions are simply missing from modern controls (like side step). And a way to quicksave and load on a controller... so obviously missing. Hate going through the multi step error prone menu. Did they playtest with new comers?
Please get out of here. Mission waypoints?!? Seriously ? It's people like you who destroy videogaming. We do not want waypoints, markers, objectives, what are you a little kid? You don't know how to play games. I don't play modern games because I do not want waypoints, markers, all that stuff, I want to figure it out myself. I never used walkthroughs. It's unbelievable, game developers should release 2 different type of games everytime they have a new release, one for the little babies to hold hands and one for adults who want to play a game by themselves.
Part of the fun in Tr games was no waypoints and get stuck. You won’t get stuck using the photo mode. Really handy although a little cheaty. I like it though.
@@stoomkracht I still like them, if you don’t have time then don’t play. Actually they take less time than modern games you needs hundreds of hours to finish. I am not talking about Fortnite of course.
Using photo mode to explore the entire level makes this game way too easy. You lose all the immersion, it's much nicer not knowing what's around the corner and learn by experience. It's what's makes this game so great, the unknown, the mystery, gamers nowadays just want to hold hands and walk through a game, they aren't playing a game, they're just making everything easy
Photo mode is better than default in-game view button, which I basically don't use in Remaster with how clunky it was. And nope, actually looking around levels when ambience plays only increases the immersion.
@@KasumiRINAhow on earth does it enhance the immersion as you can just anticipate on what's coming, nothing catches you off guard, you know what's coming, there's no surprise element anymore, you can literally plan out your moves beforehand, that's not enhancing immersions at all. Getting surprised by enemies or traps is natural, photo mode eliminates that completely
I actually agree with photo mode making is a lot easier haha, I found myself going into photo mode immediately just to see what's next but it did feel a little bit like I was cheating and I stopped doing it eventually
@@KasumiRINA I have to agree with Georgina that for me personally it did take away much of the suspense if you use photo mode to explore the level, I stopped using it eventually because it makes the game more thrilling when you're not using it
Disagree. I use it for the next room when I want to, use it to find items which otherwise I would surely miss, it can save some time but can also distract you, sometimes I use it at the end of a section to fly around which makes me appreciate the work gone into level design so much more as gives me an overall feel for it. A useful tool that enhances the enjoyment and appreciation of the games that was made more than 2 decades ago.
Another negative thing about using cheats is it disables the trophies/achivments. Though there are two trophies/achivements that require certain cheats.
I tried using the modern controls, but I had to change back to tank controls immediately. It felt so weird trying to play classic Lara with modern controls 😂
I'm sorry but I DON'T agree with most tips! First of all. Do NOT watch walkthroughs on UA-cam. What kinda tip is that? Second of all, do NOT use photo mode to explore the entire level, that just feels like cheating. And modern controls are way better than tank controls. You can do any movement in both the tank or modern controls. Learn how to master the modern controls, it's just much better, and if the camera is giving you problems, just press the "look" button as this will readjust the camera. Turn off action indicators and experience this game for yourself without help, use your brain to figure things out, it's much more satisfying and just a way better experience to play it blind. No hand holding, use your brain!
People think they're awful because they're stuck in the old days, or they just aren't good enough at the game. I can play the game perfectly fine in both the tank or modern controls, I mastered both, and came to the conclusion that the modern controls are just better.
You literally cannot backpedal, side jump OR back jump without guns drawn in modern controls, and the amount of extra presses it takes for that is ridiculous, I don't want to lock the view button and then unlock it back while holding back before every runup when just pressing back once does the trick in classic controls...
@@KasumiRINA it's comes automatically once you master the modern controls. And having to have your weapons drawn to do side or backflips is something you already have to do in combat anyway, you have your weapons drawn already. And you don't have to use the look button everytime. It's only a few occasions throughout the game where you're in a tight space, you make it sound like we have to do that for every jump, not true at all. I'm just saying, I played the game back in the day, I mastered both the tank and modern controls and from my own experience I can honestly tell you that modern controls work better and it's more fun

Only one I ever remembered on my own was exploding Lara. 😅

Great stuff! It does help a lot 👏
Yep. High ground on most non-human enemies is my #1 go to strategy.
Dude, I’m traumatized by the invisible keys in the cistern… I had to watch a walkthrough (thanks Suzanne the Raider!)!
Now I’m switching to the old graphics every now and then!
Really good advice!
I know. I knew about cause I’ve watched someone talking about it but yeah, I hope they fixed that with a patch soon 🙏
I spent so long wandering around that level, walking past the keys on numerous occasions, I ended up turning on the action indicators, which I really don't like, but found it a necessity to be able to see some pickups and switches, the new graphics really do obscure quite a lot
@@hammond8692yup! Same thing happened in the Fornace of the Gods, I was swimming around like a fool 😂😂😂
Turned on the action indicators as you did, I don’t have more hair to tear 😫
I Was stuck on the Cistern for 3 hours looking for keys, I refuse to look it up online, I wanted to find it myself haha, and after 3 hours I accidently switched to the old graphics and I saw the key, I also had my action indicators turned off so there was no exclamation telling me there was an item 😂
On PC there's a mod that makes them more visible, it was probably the second mod to be released after, you know... anyway Epic games version had keys visible so we'll be getting a patch eventually that fixes it on consoles too.
"The Dark Souls of platforming" couldn't have been said better than this!
Crash Bandicoot was Dark Souls of platforming, Tomb Raider is the action-adventure version! XD Wait till they remaster more classic games.

Wear Lara's sunglasses. Hold walk and look buttons down while loading your save.
And during any load screen
For Lara's home: do the Tomb Raider 2 or 3 version before playing the first game. Don't need to complete the gauntlet with timer but practice the run length and side jumps on those poles, it's very helpful.
The gauntlet is good and well but we all know the main attraction of the manor ;3
Love you channel bro! These remasters rekindled a love of these classic games from my childhood that has me more nostalgic than anything ever in my life before! And channels like yours and Axmania have been absolutely phenomenal finds!
Thank you! I appreciate every one of you who takes a bit of time to watch my videos. 🙏
Newcomers should try tank controls, but classic players should totally try modern controls just for that old-school "how the hell do I control this woman" nostalgia.
Haha then swan dive her off a high place to solid ground when frustrated!!
Haha I know right! It is a must do! 😅
The boy is finally right
I believe in the original ps1 manual it was mentioned to play this first. Helps the best. The only thing they don’t teach I think is the swan dive and handstand!
Good list, I'll add two😉
1. Save regularly/often, and maintain a separate save at the beginning and/or the end of each level - yes, you'll have to do that yourself😉;
2. 'When in doubt, (try to) shout it out!'🔫
Yes!!! Save regularly is a big one indeed! 🙏 thanks for watching
very good additions!
It's very important for new players to have a backup save that you can return to in case things go wrong
I still oversave in every single game to this day. Is this what gaming PTSD looks like kek?
As someone who is new to the Tomb Raider Franchise i will use all of these special Tricks except the Cheat Codes. I have no Problem if It takes me some Time to finish Levels.
Great to hear! Give it a chance and even though some levels can be painful, once you beat them, it will make you feel great! 👏
@@xela12345 THIS. You will wish you’d have kept your most powerful shots for the end otherwise.
Save often and save on different slots.
True, big one as well! 👍
I only used photo mode for the trophy. And yes, the tank controls are way better. The "modern" controls just don't work for me, especially when platforming.
Because you don't know how to use them.
I just feel tank controls take too much damn patience
When finishing a level >go> Next level... your health is (in old PC versions) reset to 100%. No need to use up a health pack if you are near level end.
Yes, makes sense! 👏
True but for me the new camera keeps flying all over anyway, even with tank controls on a controller.
I’m a newcomer, played every other Tomb Raider but not the og 3, been playing with modern controls and I’ve actually really enjoyed it, it hasn’t really frustrated me yet and I’ve finished the 1st and 2nd games and I’m halfway through the 3rd 😁
Very nice!!! Great to know 🥰
With both tank and modern, you are mostly only holding forward. All you have to learn to make the switch to tank is cornering 90° turns while running. Once you start to learn this, you won't go back to modern. It's really fun when you realize you are ready to make the switch. I started with modern, then tank controls, eventually with only using the d-pad. 😊
@@peterscave111I'm exactly the oposite. I won't go back to tank anymore.
@@cosmina.m.7570 then you are still a newcomer 😅
Same! And I grew up with both of them. I won't swich back to tank controls even they were my first love 😂
Your comment might hurt the hardcore TB fans feelings.😅 Modern controls are a welcome addition.
I recommend Tina von Rotters let's plays, if needed!
I am so, so grateful for photo mode. Makes everything easier.
It makes it too easy, I don't like this feature at all. You have a much better gaming experience not knowing what's around the corner. And just playing blind. Using photo mode is for toddlers, it's makes it too easy and you lose so much experience about what makes this game so great, the immersion is completely gone when using photo mode
@georginagiethoorn6543 It's singleplayer mode. Why are u complaining? 😂
Besides it's optional
Perhaps, although it allows me to sit back and think of different ways to approach the next challenge strategically while minimizing frustration. It's there as an option & as a last resort.@@georginagiethoorn6543
Do whatever you want to make the game fun for you.
I only used the weapons cheat code in the expansion packs since I never played them back when they came out.
Honestly those levels are pretty fun.
I still need to play them as well 🤦♂️🙏
"Complete the level before switching off" really got me, I constantly would come back to levels, and not know what in gods name i was to be doing, no matter how simple it was. backtracking to no end
how do adjust lara inwards from one shelf to another shelf that is in line, ie after you launch her forward. may be called a banana jump? i cannot do that yet
Haha I can be lazy like that! 🤣
How do you do the photo mode on the Xbox one i don't think it's on the Xbox one
Bartoli's hideout looks great in this remaster. gotta love that shiny floor, lol
I agree with the tips, but I have some comments:
- I wouldn’t normally use the photo mode for navigation, to avoid ruining the suspense of exploration and surprises.
I agree with all of them but ugh, I kinda wish photo mode didn't allow you to basically cheat and see the path ahead without taking Lara there and it exposes parts of the environment you're not meant to see 😅
Thank you my friend. Yes, I know what you mean, but since it’s there we may as well use it 🤣🤣
for pc players, pressing forward and back at the same time is another roll key which for me personally i use this more than the actual roll key which is bound to end by default or something stupid like that, plus you can also bind pretty much every key you need in the game to the left side of the keyboard so i control the game with left hand and the one key i kept at the right is the look button which was bound to numpad 0 by default, that's just my binds but don't be afraid to experiment with changing keybinds if the defaults are terrible for you (i know the sprint button in 3 is awful)
It's the exact same roll, but not doable mid air. Good find tho.
@@MrJemoederopeenstokj it is doable midair
As a guy who grew up with these games, here's my feedback :
0:48 - Play Lara's Home
Absolutely, some subtle moves can be encountered at the very beginning of the first levels
1:45 - Do not Save Ammo or Health
Wasting shells or rockets on monkeys and facing later bosses with mere pistols and few healthpacks won't help
2:32 - Complete the Level before Switching off
Two words : Lud's Gate
3:22 - Give Tank Controls a Chance!
The game was designed for it, doing otherwise is a painful unlearning process. So, yes. I definitely agree on this one
4:20 - Use Photo Mode to Explore!
Soft cheat is a cheat
5:06 - Swap Between Modern and Classic Graphics
I couldn't agree more since many places aren't translated well and some items are quasi invisible
5:50 - Watch Walkthroughs on UA-cam
Do not ruin your exploration, guides are supposed to be the very last resort
6:30 - SPECIAL - Use the Cheat Codes
Hard cheat is a cheat
7:27 - Video Ending
Good video !
Thank you for the feedback 👍 hope you enjoyed the video
@@BartolisHideoutGaming I sure did. I simply gave a honest feedback according to what I experienced so far as a 36 years old dude, your content isn't compromised and your approach is the best for modern audience and newcomers alike
How do you erase your saves ? I see people go up to 194 saves. Mine is 44. It won’t let me save
😢
Great video man, and really nice tips! I especially abuse the toggle feature almost constantly, because the remastered graphics are too dark sometimes (while other times the original graphics are too dark, and I need to switch to the remastered graphics! 😅).
I think your video here will be a great service to many new players! 😎
Thank you my friend. Yes I initially saw myself switching graphics just to admire the work they put in but at some point I was like let me switch to see if I missed something 🤣
you can also hold back / select on controller, then press x - pistols, O - uzi's etc
Corner Bug is the best trick you can use in these three masterpieces
im no newcomer and i did start with TRII right away...
@@BartolisHideoutGaming yes indeed but the time it takes to save and load is instant on the remaster but it took ages on ps1 :D
Easy way to do running jump: walk slowly backwards to end of one cubic floor and then hold run and hold jump few miliseconds later. Lara will jump from the edge of cubic floor (even if you pressed jump earlier than edge)
My favorite controls are Tonk Control they are so full of memories. :'3
Indeed. I can’t play these games in any other way 🥰
Not sure if it's a great "trick" but to experiment with the ways you fight bosses throughout the game. Mainly late bosses like torso, natla, bartolli, the doctor, etc etc. (can be useful on "minibosses" aswell)
Not talking about the speed run glitches to skip them but actually alternate tactics to beat them
I played the originals when they came out.
Should have covered the exploding lara trick in tomb raider 2. Got me out of a lot of situations.
how did you lock the cam position while still being able to move lara around?
I didn’t 🤣 that’s footage from the trailer 😜
@@BartolisHideoutGaming understood, thanks.
You should be proud indeed. That’s a huge achievement 👏
I know when first playing I went too laras home right away for my sake also practiced the tank controls before leaving
Agree with the photo mode tip
I honestly would advise against using the classic graphics to light up areas, that's what the flares are for which now have a genuine purpose outside a few select areas and I would also recomend using the tank controls for platforming and modern for combat.
I just use gun fire when possible
Let’s hope for a great TR game soon 🙏
I wish in new graphics you could turn off the skybox /lighting to original. The t-Rex with dark sky in a dark room at night will make you jump for the first time!!
You have to be very brave to go through the "Wreck of the Maria Doria" without switching off
🤣 true but I actually enjoy that level very much! 😅
oh I love your channel's name XD
Great tips for new players! 😍
Thank you! 👊🙏
Yeah, especially at the beginning of the game you need to save health and ammo especially at Tr2 and Tr3.
Boas dicas! Abraço
I wish I was 13 playing these. Now I'm 60 and its not so easy playing these for the first time. Youth is certainly great, but it only occurs once.

Yes to all of this 🔥👏
Especially Croft manor. And using the damn ammo and medi packs!
Other tricks:
- The look button resets camera.
Yeah I’ve seen that shooting from a speedboat recently. Still 100% believe that it is a glitch tho! 😅
Photo mode is the best
heads up for players; cheats deactivate achievements for that specific save. however there is an achievement for tr1 to use the level skip cheat, so make sure to make a new save after collecting it!
Not true, I used cheats to skip level and still got trophies. The only cheats that disable trophies are the ones for weapons and ammo
Good Tips ut careful using Cheats. It will block some Trophys so u never can get the Platnum one. Only the LvL skip Cheat in TR1 does not block any Achievement.
I’m not big on achievements mainly because I don’t have the time to plat any game whatsoever but it is good to know, thanks! 😅
After playing around with free cam for a bit, i'd advice against it. Yes it's convenient, too convenient. Took all the suspense out of the game.
Save every chance
What we need are, if there are any, ways to deal with those damn mummies! Manic jumping freakshows that suck your health like no other.

I used nothing but Tank Controls just like the original its easier to use and Tomb Raider 3 is the easiest of the trilogy

Foil tape bikini is awesome
Tomb Raider is the Dark Souls of platforming! Lmao😂!
🤣
Another negative thing about using cheats is it disables the trophies/achivments. Though there are two trophies/achivements that require certain cheats.
I tried using the modern controls, but I had to change back to tank controls immediately. It felt so weird trying to play classic Lara with modern controls 😂
Same! 🤣
The games were designed for the intricate movement of the tank controls so, they’re much nicer when you get used to them
I'm sorry but I DON'T agree with most tips! No hand holding, use your brain!
highly disagree with the modern controls, they are godawful lol
I agree with photo mode, it did feel like cheating and it made it so much easier and it did take some of the suspense away for me so I stopped doing it.
Totally useless video
Stoped watching halbe way as you proofed by then that you have No clue at all...
I'm sorry but these are not good tips at all!
