The problem is the new bio in the Evercade manual contradicts Lara in the classic Tomb Raider games that they are selling on the Evercade. If they put the new bio in a rerelease of Anniversary it would contradict Crystal's take on their story of Tomb Raider as well. They should have just saved the Unification bio for a new Unification game. They can never truly unify the story as they would just be making another timeline with bits from Classic, Legend and Survivor timelines. As you say this could be just a business decision. It could be malicious .... or it could be both.
Look at it this way, very few people are going to play the Evercade version because very few people own one. And the people that do own one probably won't even read the manual. I do agree it's a pretty sloppy way to unify all the timelines. But I'd be more concerned if this was for a new mainline game instead of a port that few people will buy.
Does it, though? Exactly how much information about Lara's backstory are we given in the first three games themselves? The first game's manual is irrelevant, since the Evercade manual is replacing it. We don't even get flashbacks to her childhood until the fourth and fifth games. There's no reason to think that the first three games aren't canon to more than one timeline. In fact, I'd assume that those three events are the constants across all timelines, as they do receive nods in each reboot. It will be trickier if they do a TR Collection 2. The flashbacks in 4 and 5 do indeed seem hard to reconcile with the naive Lara in the 2013 game. (It's easier to reconcile with the Legend flashback, since that would predate her time with Father Patrick and Von Croy.) And, of course, there's the mourning old couple at the start of Chronicles: they're supposed to be Lara's parents, which doesn't fit with the other timelines. But again, no one refers to them as such on screen, and you could easily handwave it away by saying that we're seeing that estranged uncle from the other timelines who had previously tried to claim Croft Manor for himself.
No way, man! You are an excellent UA-camr, I enjoy your videos so much. You have your own unique niche on Tomb Raider, and I try to catch everything you put out. Your lists are fun, your talks with Seth, Johnny, Geek etc. are so chill and great to listen to, and I also enjoy when you bring news about the series. Also, regarding the "do you need to know everything about Tomb Raider to be a Tomb Raider UA-camr?", I hope not! 😅 I'd say 75% of what I know about Tomb Raider now, I've learned while being a Tomb Raider UA-camr, either from comments or by studying specific topics for videos 😂 Just keep growing your awesome channel Mr. Bartoli 😎
@@AxMania thanks buddy, really appreciate your comments 🙏 I love your content and your channel too and you’re great so I guess we don’t need to be obsessed about TR to spread our love about it 👊
I pretty much agree with all your takes on Tomb Raider. You are one of the most sensible TR UA-cam channels. You and RaiderCast are my favorites. Too many Tomb Raider fans just want to rage over every little thing. As far as this new bio goes for Lara, I'm also a comic book fan. Comic books are constantly getting reboots and new origins for their characters. Sometimes I like the new origins. Sometimes I don't. But I don't rage about it either way. The thing is, if you don't like the new origin for Lara, stick with the original. Why get mad about it?
@@BartolisHideoutGaming Thank you for not feeding into the UA-cam rage machine. Way too many UA-cam channels that survive on rage videos because they get clicks.
Personally, I don't believe there is such a thing as a good "Tomb Raider fan". There's just Tomb Raider fans... We all can have our own favorites and least favorites in the series. We can dislike a game entirely and only like the first game, etc, as long as you enjoy Ms. Croft kicking ass, you're a Tomb Raider fan! And I've enjoyed your channel and enjoyed the conversations you bring to the series! Please keep going! There's always going to be people who like to stir the pot, they are the ones who don't know what they're talking about. I can't stand people who don't let others have their own opinions, like with ranking videos. We all experience life and games and music in our own way based off our own life and things we have been through...I think media is subjective and open to interpretation and I love hearing people talk about why they like a game or didn't even if I have a different take. I'm rambling at this point, my apologies haha. Keep doing your thing. I enjoy the videos. Thanks mate.
A fan is simply someone who likes something, you don't have to be an encyclopedia on the subject. Anyway, you should really replay the DLC. It is such a nice time that it deserves it! Really liked to have you talking with us! 😎
I completely understand what you mean about being a TR fan. Not every fan is going to know EVERYTHING about every game. Some people value different aspects of each game.
liking whichever game in the tomb raider franchise does not make you a bad fan at all, what can make you a bad fan is ignoring basic facts and changing truth to fit your narrative. What crystal is doing is an EXTREMELY obvious attempt to erase classic history, i don't care what they do with the future installment, they can make lara a man for all i care, just do NOT interfere with her original backstory in the classic timeline, it is not theirs to touch they did not create those games.
just play the old games over and over and over, there you go. Nothing is stopping you from doing that. They cant change what is already done lol get over it. good lord.
@@quemsereu2009 i can do whatever i want, that still doesn't change the fact that what crystal dynamics is attempting to do is shady and they deserve all the backlash for it.
Appreciate your UA-cam contribution, perspectives etc, thank you. One major plus for me, from listening/watching your channel/blog ,I learned about the physical disc limited edition. But also other people’s perspectives on TR are always interesting to read and often alert us to interesting facts or just basic stuff, which we may have never learned otherwise. So cheers for a positive experience as we all enjoy the uniqueness of Tom Raider.👍
I’m pretty particular about the channels I follow, but yours was easy to subscribe to! I think what makes a good UA-camr is just someone who is passionate and well spoken, which is definitely you! Keep doing when you’ve been doing, and I’ll be following along for sure! Love your content brother!
Man don't think about it too much, you're doing great :) Maybe they are all spoiled with bigger names, but you've always been respectful and genuine. And this is rare in our fandom, as you can see.
You are a good youtuber. people should stop their superiority and thinking they are better. don't stop making content just because of these self-proclaimed super fans.
You are doing enough. You have your own take and have great friends on your show who have their own views as they should. I have subscribed for a long time because your authenticity validates my own love for the only franchise that I have participated in long term. Please, keep giving us your opinion on our hopes for the future in Tomb Raider.
Hey man, I think everything is okay with the way you do things here on UA-cam. Of course, opinions are always subjective and no one in their right mind can say one opinion is worse than the other. As for knowing everything about the franchise, it is totally okay to not know certain things. We are all people with our daily lives, jobs and responsibilities and Tomb Raider is just a part of our video gaming hobby. Since you are not a TR brand representative and also not an official Tomb Raider historian you are not required to know all the minutia and different trivia about this series. It is a strange thing to have expectations from a youtuber when all he does is just his passion project and not the official job. For me your channel has become a place where I can share my love for the TR franchise. Sometimes you cover various news and updates regarding the series, but if you don't, I don't mind that at all - just because you are not obliged to do that. When I watch your videos, I see a man passionate about his hobby and that's what I'm here for, not for a walking encyclopedia with utter knowledge of all things Lara Croft. I'm here for your thoughts, your emotions, and when I want to get some factoids I go to TR fandom page or just google things. So, nevermind those who try to project their expectations about how you are supposed to act and what to do. Keep making videos, share your thoughts and love for the Tomb Raider series. I'll be here to watch and support you :)
There are childish people which say it will take all the TR knowledge to be a fan. People who don’t like your channel should just go away instead of hating
Do what you like to do and people will either like it or not. I personally like your videos, your updates, the talk with other fans. Don't bother with such comments. I haven't played the survivor trilogy in the last 5 years too and the dlcs. I still consider myself a die hard tomb raider fan. Love the classics and adore the LAU trilogy. Either way, I love your accent and you are nice to look at, so keep up the UA-cam thing 😂❤
It maybe doesn't make me mad, but sad for some minutes. I have an opinion on what Crystal Dynamics does, but don't get so involved with my feelings when I go away from the news or my PC. But i fully understand why other people get emotional with it, we are all different and some people have bigger reactions to stuff they love. And I do not think there is something bad or ill about it, just shows that we all are humans and are living in good times, where we have less problems than people two-three generations back in the past. Very greatfull for this.
I think you are a very good person and you obviously love Tomb Raider. I think you enjoy what you do and most people enjoy your videos. Unfortunately it's very easy today to receive bad things. When I listen to you you obviously have been a big fan. Just keep doing what you like. All the best and keep posting. Steve 👍
You have to have PASSION. And to make UA-cam videos. And not call other fans bad names for not liking what you do. You do a brilliant job on all points. Something that people don’t seem to remember is that a lot of people at Crystal Dynamics grew up playing tomb raider, just like the rest of us. Many of them making the games are fans as much as we are yet people always act like CD is some anti-Lara business whose only goal is to destroy the franchise. Which is ridiculous because CD need the franchise to succeed for them all to have a job in the future.
When it comes to the evercade port of Tomb Raider, the classic games will always be classics regardless of what is in a manual most people won’t read. It doesn’t change the games and I think the backlash was an overreaction for sure. When it comes to content creating, unfortunately there are always going to be people trying to bring you down. It shouldn’t be acceptable and I hate that it’s made its way into our current culture. Usually these people have no idea what they’re talking about and it’s a shame other people feel the need to shit on other people just trying to make content for a fandom. I’ve experienced a lot of demand for Lana Del Rey music content that I used to make and in the end I just had to stop, I took all my content down and took a massive break, dealing with constant and overwhelming demand for content, nasty comments from strangers and even death threats just got the better of me. So I hope that others don’t ruin your passion to create because that’s a horrible feeling. I hope you don’t take the noise to heart. I also don’t think you need to know the encyclopaedia of Tomb Raider to be a fan, not everyone can afford every merch drop and you don’t have to play every single game to like the franchise. And to anyone else reading this please don’t let someone make you feel bad for enjoying something you love! Really love your content by the way!
@@LS353 hey man, thanks for your comment! I feel you, this UA-cam place can be hard at times. I hope you are well now 🙏for me it isn’t that bad yet because I don’t put that pressure on myself yet. I always have that feeling in the back of my mind (that I should be making a new video by now) but I never took the channel to that next level (upload regularly, creating a Patreon account, YT membership, create merch etc etc) and therefore I’ll upload whenever I can, no pressure, no schedules. So yeah if/when I take it to the next level, I’m sure it will be wayyyyyy worst.
I think fans are getting WIDELY confused. Their never gonna actually “unify” the timelines unless a tomb raider multiverse game came out 1 of two things are gonna happen For example: A: Tomb Raider 1-3 is officially retconned now and no longer is in the Classic Timeline. B: Their are now two SEPARATE versions of TR1-3 their is the classic timeline version and the survivor timeline version Either way guys I think the signal is clear now that stop taking the word “unification” LITERALLY. They have already unified Lara’s before with TR Legend (in the 25th anniversary interview Crystal confirms Legend Lara is a unified movie and classic lara) but do you see not to take that in like the most literal sense? We aren’t getting a multiverse game their either gonna retcon some of the games or have two seperate versions of the games lol
I don't agree with all of your takes but I think you're a great content creator who is always so positive and loves the games. It's a real pity that these nasty comments are coming through and negatively affecting you. Hopefully it eases up. Like for me, changing the backstory of a rerelease to me is disrespectful to the original works, but it will be blended in the new game and that's fine. But you're not a bad UA-camr for not caring if they do it, it's just not something that bothers you. It's ok to have differences of opinions. And Natla is an easy boss!
Has there been any news about ‘Revelation’ and Chronicles being remastered? I was looking at videos of the ‘abandoned’ Anniversary game, it looks amazing and I think it could be a great third option of inclusion, if another remastered edition was considered. That’s if TRAOD was bypassed.
You're not a "bad" Tomb Raider fan at all. I don't care what someone's opinion is about the direction the series is going in or anything like that; everyone's opinion is valid and doesn't negate whether they're a true fan of Tomb Raider. I have my opinions regarding the franchise's future, albeit some rather glum feelings tbh. But I actually rather enjoy listening to people talk about their options contrary to my own and it's important to keep an open mindset. I don't 100% agree with everything that is going on with the unification and all that, but I think I'm growing to accept it. The "fans" that ought to be avoided are those one dimensional ones that'll spew at you that their Lara is objectively the one true Lara and won't accept anyone's point of view that contradicts theirs.
As long as you are genuine (say what you like, what you dislike, and what you are neutral about (and why)) - and I feel you are - all is fine👍 Whether your opinion deviates from the opinion of the majority of TR fans (or what you assume that is, based on what you see online (which may not be accurate to reality)) does not matter. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions and feel a certain way about the games and Lara herself (and prefer different styles of games and presentations of the character). Tomb Raider is not static, it's dynamic - change is constant and the series is constantly evolving: it simply has to be in order to be/remain relevant. Crystal Dynamics does not only have to appeal to hardcore Tomb Raider fans (older ànd newer fans) but also to general audiences - but in doing so they will inevitably disappoint parts of the existing fandom who wants to keep things as they were. Personally though (and this is an older fan speaking, someone who has been with TR since 1998, and still plays TRLEs daily), I am glad with innovation/shaking things up from time to time, e.g. The Angel of Darkness, Legend, Tomb Raider (2013), and - most likely - the upcoming game (which will hopefully release next year). I compare it with a pendulum movement: Tomb Raider games should not always be (largely) the same and the developers must experiment from time to time, but that does not mean they cannot revisit or even return to (tried-and-tested) concepts from the past (in fact, they should to satisfy different types of fans/gamers). There's no reason why Tomb Raider cannot return to a more classic or LAU type of game/Lara in the future, it just takes time/patience. We now had remasters of the first three games and I'm sure the next ones are coming. Sure they'll present them in the 'unified framework' where Lara's origins/background are new, i.e. as presented in the recent Origin/Young Lara Trilogy, but gameplay and presentation will be (largely) unaltered. I have no problem with that, in fact I always knew this would be the case (since Tomb Raider (2013)): why would you for the first time let us experience Lara's origins in the games and show us how she became the Tomb Raider for then later to (fully) return to another/the older backstory (either classic or LAU) later?! For me, what's inside the actual games counts/takes precedence, not what's inside an accompanying booklet, a movie/television series, or a comic book. Her classic backstory was not (developed/explained) in/really relevant for the actual games, and her character presentation was pretty basic in general/character development was largely absent (she was/is still an awesome/cool character though, let I make that fully clear). Fine for the time (the 90s), but nowadays I want something more from a video game and its story/characters. This is also why I prefer Tomb Raider: Chronicles and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness from the classics since these succeeded really well in making me care more about Lara herself and the story (there are more cutscenes and Lara herself talks more), instead of primarily the gameplay (while the gameplay itself is better in the earlier titles, so a compromise between these would be ideal). The unification process will be a bumpy road for us fans (since we will inevitably lose some of the things we liked going forward - not only from the classic era, but also from the LAU and Origin eras), but hopefully things will ultimately be more consistent (one Unified Lara with one history (2013-Shadow, TR1-TRAOD, TRL-TRU, new game), with the older ones being preserved with remasters), leading to us getting more content (games (also spinoffs), movies, animation series, live-action series, collabs) quicker and making TR (more) relevant again. In any case, I'll be here for it!
Hey man, thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. Let’s hope you’re right! I’m also here for whatever is coming out way. I only want Tomb Raider to succeed 👍
Hey man, thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. Let’s hope you’re right! I’m also here for whatever is coming out way. I only want Tomb Raider to succeed 👍
@@BartolisHideoutGaming Same! I want both old (remasters/remakes) ànd new (games, movies, tv shows) to come out and succeed. The remasters were awesome and of course we need more, but I'm also looking forward to what's Crystal is cooking. I really feel it's going to be something different than that we've ever seen before.
I think it’s very refreshing your content is not overly negative and upset about the crystal dynamics era and you always point out the positive aspects of the news. I even think your take on things is more rational than many people’s view on crystal dynamics. I see the criticism of CD is totally justified, even more so when your a lifelong tomb raider fan and feel your favorite franchise is being butchered, but sometimes I think some of the reactions tend to be a bit overdramatic. You, on the other hand, are the voice of reason ;) And still it’s perfectly obvious you’re a fan of classic Tomb Raider (which any tomb raider content creator should be) so what’s not to like? I very much hope TR12 will be more similar to classic TR and it will be a true unification with many traits of classic Lara and classic Tomb Raider and I also see why people are upset and worried. Rewriting Lara’s biography and making her a truth seeker and gift receiver instead of a tomb raider is highly questionable. But I also don’t think crystal dynamics is pure evil that seeks to destroy tomb raider. Let’s hope for the best. Keep up the good work 🧗🏼♂️
@@Keaness you’re right, I understand each and every tomb raider fan being upset and feeling betrayed, sometimes I’m like this too. I don’t want Lara to be a gift taker who does everything she does because of her father. I just want to believe there are also good signs for the franchise‘s future - the remasters, unified Lara wearing her classic outfit (and some minor changes like the necklace and her undershirt) and unified Lara has to have many traits of her classic self. They have to recognize the classics for an „unified“ Lara. So I hope she will be different from Reboot Lara. I don’t think employees at Crystal Dynamics „hate“ classic TR. They’re doing what they think is the right thing for the business. I jut hope for the best 😊
The moment I saw your title, I was like, "No, absolutely not!" I only have 3 Tomb Raider fans on youtube that I am subscribed too, Bartoli's Hideout, Seth Mckenzie, and AxMania. These people who accuse you of "Not knowing what you are talking about" probably don't know what they are talking about.
@@BartolisHideoutGaming I'm a fan from the newest trilogy and I consider myself a fan. I'm even making an indie game loosely inspired by games like TR. I don't think it's fair to have any expectations of collecting / playing certain games to be a 'real' fan or whatever. So I totally agree.
I really enjoy your videos and positive vibe. Am I a bad Tomb Raider fan because I’ve discovered new things in the classics after 20 odd years 🤣 I like each TR for something else but I’m not a fan of the Guardian of Light … oh well I’ll live with that 🤣
If this is CD's attempt at unifying the franchise... it's an epic failure haha. You can't just slap a biography from a new game onto an old game set in the 90's and say "this is how it is". The only way a unified version works is if they continue onwards from the survivor trilogy and take Lara's best aspects from the old games, and re-introduce them in the current survivor universe. You can take "events" from the old games and re-tell them or simply refer to them as if they already happened. But we all know the games are from different universes. It makes no sense trying to force them together. Anyways.. No you're NOT a fake haha.
No, you're not a bad UA-camr, and no your not a bad Tomb Raider fan. I love all your content about Tomb Raider and always look forward to your videos ❤❤❤
Sometimes I think you give Crystal Dynamics a little too much credit, but that's just my opinion and you're entitled to your stance! Plus you're fun to watch cuz ya sexy😝
Hey man, I just wanted to reach out to you and tell you that you shouldn't take some of these comments you showed so personally. People obviously have different opinions and they are passionate about TR. And when people are passionate about something, sometimes that passion comes out as hatred if you are pushing the line they disagree with. I think a lot of people are distrustful of the media in general (and YT is no exception). Game publishers and game journos have been colluding in the past, and since stuff like that became public, a lot of people turned to the other extreme - so, now everyone on YT is in cahoots with game publishers, or some political party, or whatever... It is the spirit of the times, I guess. And don't blame these people either. Most likely they have been burned in the past by someone they liked or trusted and now they are throwing water even where there is no fire. Perhaps having someone on who disagrees with you and just having a pleasant exchange of opinions would show some of these people that you are willing to engage with your audience. But, honestly... these days... it seems (at least to me) like the whole world has gone crazy. And btw, I disagreed with the video you are referring to, because I don't like what Crystal Dynamics has been doing with Lara - and I hate the general direction they are taking with her character. This includes this "unified Lara" idea. I just think you can't unify diametrically opposite personalities - and I could write a whole book as to why this is a really bad idea. Still, I don't think that you having a different opinion on the matter makes you any less of a fan. Much love, and keep doing what you are doing :)
Don't listen to them, your videos are great and I enjoy them. You have passion for the saga and I'm sure most the people that watches your videos can tell, and imo, all you need to do when it comes to videogames, is enjoy them. Everyone has their opinions and no one can tell others how to think. Me? I think you have best taste 'cause Tomb Raider 2 is best Tomb Raider! B) XDDDD So yeah, just keep doing what you're doing, people like me will keep enjoying your videos.
malicious as in...malicious against the old series? Isn't it obvious by now since...like... legends trilogy? Of course, what seens obvious for one may not seem obvious for all 🤷, no reason to fight over it.
Look mate, you’re the most “neutral” bloke on UA-cam. Don’t beat yourself up, you’re gonna get people bitching on either side. Look I’m more on the “I hate Crystal and modern game devs all together” but even people who keep harping on about the same shit and preaching constantly are just annoying. My views on how the Seth video was handled was how it seemed like he wasn’t even allowed to make any complaints without having his opinions and views disregarded, he made a lot of frustrated fans feel heard. Look even Melonie Mac makes some decent albeit unpopular/unfiltered points about the state of things, but god she can be just as preachy as any activist. I feel this is just how it is when you’ve grown up with your way of life, seeing the shit you loved tarnished, you can’t help the new fans from not understanding as that’s all they’ve known. If Crystal just left the original stuff alone allowed some other company to focus on more classic fun and let them do what they wanted who cares. But they are just far too petty when it comes to the original TombRaider. You’re right though they are just games if they just treated them as such “an ESCAPE from reality”, Im sure people wouldn’t have as much of a problem! Anyway, waffling over, keep doing what you’re doing, don’t stop your discussions mate. The ones that matter are the ones that don’t tell you what you should do/feel/talk about! Take care, you know you are a fan!
It’s a big deal because they ARE doing it in a malicious way-more specifically, they are doing it to use OUR games to push their ideologies. It absolutely is a huge deal.
@@mrdarcy05191 hey I understand the feeling but in order to help them see what we want, we need to be subjective. As you know CD are the developers and their job is literally to come up with ideas and use them to create a video game, it is their job so we cannot do anything about that. “Our” game will always be there and now even more preserved with the remasters. If you don’t like their ideology and choices they make for the games they develop, then absolutely express yourself but with good fundamentals. Criticism is a great thing when makes sense and is properly explained. Don’t criticise just because is a popular thing to do. Enough with the negativity, they are developing the next game wether we like it or not, so I believe if you want something to be done in a certain way, express yourself without the negativity. They are probably doing the best they can and they don’t want to lose their jobs. For us is entertaining for them is their lives and the way they put food on the table. I feel like the series has to keep evolving but at the same time they need to look at what made the classics so damn special and try to make something that they believe it will be special… Fingers crossed for the best 🙏
I think to be a good TR UA-camr you need to enjoy the series and make content about it often. You don't need to know every single detail about the games tbh, so you're fine lol. It goes with the territory of being on YT at all that you get dumb comments Regarding CDs business choice to change the bio, I think it was fundamentally the wrong one. It just feels dirty to rerelease the classics and alter the original authors work. It's not gonna please classic fans and I'd imagine people that like survivor Lara more don't really want their Lara changed partially "back" to classic. It is just a game so I also don't really care because it's not real life, lol. It might not be malicious but it's tone deaf. We all care about different things and if you don't care about the bio that's perfectly valid. Just because you don't care about that doesn't signify your love for the franchise invalid. 🫂 (Although maybe you should have another series play through from beginning to end more often than every 5 years 👀)
The problem is the new bio in the Evercade manual contradicts Lara in the classic Tomb Raider games that they are selling on the Evercade.

What crystal is doing is an EXTREMELY obvious attempt to erase classic history, i don't care what they do with the future installment, they can make lara a man for all i care, just do NOT interfere with her original backstory in the classic timeline, it is not theirs to touch they did not create those games.
how ironic for them to give lessons on colonialism when they're erasing classic lara's legacy, that is literally colonialism.
just play the old games over and over and over, there you go. Nothing is stopping you from doing that. They cant change what is already done lol get over it. good lord.

@@husky8243 🙏 thank you
You have to have PASSION.
Their never gonna actually “unify” the timelines unless a tomb raider multiverse game came out
1 of two things are gonna happen
For example:
A: Tomb Raider 1-3 is officially retconned now and no longer is in the Classic Timeline.
B: Their are now two SEPARATE versions of TR1-3 their is the classic timeline version and the survivor timeline version
Either way guys I think the signal is clear now that stop taking the word “unification” LITERALLY.
Haters gonna hate, don’t care about them just keep on going hottie! 😊
This is a good take and you are a good fan.

Keep up the good work 🧗🏼♂️
Both sides can be over dramatic, both sides can be justified.
@@lionheart6918 thank you, will do! 🙏

I feel like the series has to keep evolving but at the same time they need to look at what made the classics so damn special and try to make something that they believe it will be special…
Fingers crossed for the best 🙏
Annnd you’ve touched it, prepare for the 📢🗯️
I think to be a good TR UA-camr you need to enjoy the series and make content about it often. You don't need to know every single detail about the games tbh, so you're fine lol. It goes with the territory of being on YT at all that you get dumb comments
Regarding CDs business choice to change the bio, I think it was fundamentally the wrong one.
