  • Part 1: GETTING THE SNAPPER RUNNING:
    • Dangerous Old Snapper ...
    We got our hands on an antique snowblower (snow thrower) from the 1970's or 80's. It is a Snapper with a 5hp 2-stroke Tecumseh engine. We got this unit for free and now we will get it running!
    Now that it is running, time to get the auger spinning properly!

    Hay Doug you didn't have to take the pully off to change the belt, that center bump on the pully is for a wrench about a 25 mm, in taking the belt off, take the belt off the smaller pully and the tensioner, then jam the belt at the top edge of the larger pully, take I believe it's a 25 or 26mm wrench and turn it counterclockwise a little at a time making sure that the belt is jammed in between the pully and the edge, as you turn your wrench the belt will come off easily, you can put the new belt on the same way except start at the bottom and turn your wrench clockwise, doing it this way it only takes about 45 seconds to take the belt off or on, Thanks for the video.

      That is some awesome advice. thanks you!!

      Thanks Doug, In some cases putting on the new belt is exactly the same as taking it off starting at the top and turn the pully counterclockwise.

    hahaha. Doug all you had to do is put the 2x4 in the auger and put a crescent wrench on the center of the hub and turn it right, the center is shaped to accomodate a wrench.

    I figured that if you weren't sticking a center punch in one of the pulley holes and hitting it from the side to break the pulley loose then you must not have had one handy... then the very next moment you're putting what appears to be the perfect one for the job in a vise... I'm confused.
    Good content though, and kudos to the Executive Producer for making sure you include the proper credits in your content.

      I do not have an answer for you. haha. Sometimes I go in to a job expecting to do it one way and I forget to adapt to new information as it presents itself. That is the monkey with a toolbox side. haha

    That impact driver is really pretty! Could you please tell me the model? I think it’s a Kobalt. Are you satisfied with how it works?

    • @DougvCarburetor
      @DougvCarburetor  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I recently committed to the Kobalt battery platform and have been collecting tools. I am a big fan of the 1/2 impact and 1/4 impact, but the drill is kind of junk. I already had to warranty one out and the second one is now acting funny. but I do LOVE the impacts and have put them through some real abuse

    Maybe this will help someone. I just replaced the belt on my Snapper model 3201. I used a long handle 1" wrench to get extra leverage. It fit nicely on the flat spots on the center hub. Loosen the pulley in the direction of the "OFF" arrows as shown on the pulley. This is opposite the usual direction.
    My adjustable wrench did NOT work. Too small, too cheap, and would not stay tight on the center hub. A quality adjustable wrench probably would work and is what they show in the service manual.

    Umm why did you not just use a wrench on the hub????

    Great video !! I picked up 2 of these 1984 snapper snow throwers from a neighbor yesterday and they still fire right up but I noticed there is no air intake on the carb .. do they run without intake manifolds ?? any help would be great Thanx ...

    Question for you Douglas...working on a 2005 Cub Cadet 2 stage 5hp 28in monster of a snarblower and it just will not bark, cough, snort, puke, chooch or anything. I put a new carb on and nothing. I cleaned the old carb and nothing. Guy had a new plug and I cannot see spark on it so I tried a few other plugs and I can see spark...though it looks kinda weak. I tried drizzling a few drops of fuel in the plug hole and the most I got was a single pop out the muffler!! To look at this machine Doug you would think it was rarely ever used, I mean it looks almost new. Coil maybe? Timing issue? Compression does feel kinda low for a beast this big but I'm not really sure. Appreciate any tips bud!

    • @DougvCarburetor
      @DougvCarburetor  2 роки тому +1

      Hmmm... that is a melon scratcher! What you are telling me has me questioning if the timing is off and maybe even the flywheel key is missing, broken, or otherwise has allowed the flywheel to move and it is no longer sparking when it should. Alternatively, you might have a weak spark from a bad coil or more likely a lost/bad connection. Without knowing everything you have tried I would suggest investigating all electrical connections (and disconnecting as many safeties - temporarily for diagnosing only) to eliminate "no spark" as an issue and also checking the flywheel timing. Good luck!

      @@DougvCarburetor Very much appreciate the feedback good sir! I ended up bringing the machine back to the owner who then took it to one of our big name repair shops here in Cleveland and apparently they couldn't get it going either and suggested he needed a new engine put on it. Don't know what he's gonna do at this point but I suggested he get a Harbor Freight engine or buy a used cheap used snowblower and swap the engine. Never swapped an engine before but after watching you vids I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. We'll see. Thanks bud!

      I found the engine model under all the 25 year old grime. Those wondering the carb is for an hsk600 techumseh 2 cycle engine
