I’m Showing the difference between the Wilson SFX9 railed and the night I Counselor along with the Wilson EDCX name and a new gun I just picked up. It’s a Cheely custom 9mm
Great to see some more videos. Even though I have a Wilson Sentinel that's about perfect that Nighthawk calls my name. That Cheely Custom at the end looked interesting too. Always enjoy your videos and taste in firearms.
Just as an update I bought a 3.25 inch SFX nine with an optic cut and put an RMR on it. This is identical to my nighthawk. I’m really dialed in with the nighthawk and Wilson shoots differently. After a few hundred rounds I had my very experienced 1911 gunsmith drop the trigger to 2 1/2 pounds. My night Hawk, after 4000 rounds, is pretty much the same as the SFX nine now on the Lyman gauge. It’s taking me a while to get as accurate but I’m finally getting there after 1000 rounds. The Wilson is the most comfortable carry firearm I’ve ever had. The counselor is extremely comfortable, don’t get me wrong, but the Wilson… You can’t even feel it. Every corner is rounded beautifully. The Wilson is the only 1911, and I own a bunch of them, that I can literally break down with no tools whatsoever. The counselor needs some thing to push out the slide stop. Not true on the Wilson. My rear site finally had to be lockedtid into place after shaking free twice. Don’t use it anyway as I shoot a red dot. the dot and the sides are perfectly aligned right out of the box. Finally, I have not had a single hiccup in firing the Wilson. Not a hanger, failure the battery, stove pipe, nothing. The counselor is marginally smaller but I can easily carry the Wilson. And 16 rounds is a lot in acarry gun.
I have 7 Wilson’s (5 stainless full size 1911’s and 2 EDC X9’s) - I truly think Wilson makes the best guns on the planet and of course Nighthawk is phenomenal (I just ordered a Bull stainless rail full size). I have been thinning my collection down to Wilson and soon Nighthawk - they are just so good and that Wilson service and support is incredible.
Love my EDC X9 and I like it more than my Staccato C2, only drag is optics ready variants for the Wilson are impossible to get and if you send your slide out to Wilson to have it cut for their true zero system, you’re gonna wait about 6 to 8 months. Found a guy here in Ohio that can do my optics cut in less than 6 weeks and cerakote the slide OD Green for me so I’ll pick up the green grips in the interim and count the days until I get my favorite gun back. I have the 3.25” EDC X9 and I absolutely love the size and once the optic is installed I’ll have my dream gun. Thanks for the content brother, you have great taste in pistols my friend
I love my sfx9 but I shoot it low too.. even swapped the sights from fiber optic to tritium. Wilson only offers one size... Still the same thing. My edcx9 is spot on tho. Awesome videos... awesome collection
I appreciate the video. This is my first time seeing any of your videos or your channel. You did a great job. I am currently thinking about an SFX9 myself. I’m looking at the 15 rounds full size grip with a 3.25 inch barrel. I am considering getting it without the red dot because it’s going to be a carry gun, and I don’t see a need for a red dot for a carry gun, especially when I will not be shooting past 15 yards. Also the red dot I believe would make it more complicated to find a holster. I would appreciate you elaborating more on your experience with this firearm. Now that you’ve had it a while, have you figured out why are you shoot low? I have noticed other people on the Internet and on UA-cam complaining about shooting low for some reason. Some people say they shoot low even with a red dot? Have you been able to remedy the situation? Also have you had any issues with any parts coming loose or needing to Loctite anything? That is another concern some people have mentioned. And has it been accurate and ran flawlessly?
I know this video is old but as it seems quite a bit of people have both I thought I'd try a question?? I have an edc x9 and a counselor, is the sfx9's grip angle more like a 1911? I shoot both well but even with the large back strap on the edc x9 it still doesn't feel like a 1911 grip, both in angle and bore height. Is the SFX9 grip any different???
I’m ordering a Counselor , I was thinking of no Optics cut this time, DLC Slide , anodized frame, ( because it is aluminum), trijicon HD’s, DLC’ed small parts , is there anything you would add?
I was curious about your experience with Dave’s Custom Gunsmith 2011. I am interested in placing an order but can’t find much information/reviews on him.
I ordered a Counselor , and it’s a good ways to be built ; But I really like the SFT, not for the capacity , but the thin ness. I have never been a capacity guy , but a first accurrate hits in a gunfight .I did not like the Staccotto P, the way it fit in my hand; but also my ULC, was missing two standard. and two added festures, yet was signed off by a page of Wilson Combat Gunsmiths , then the lady that runs customer service got nasty with me three times unprovoked, at that point I went Night Hawk , and this is the first time I looked back? WilsonCombat has been living off Bill Wilson’s name far too long . my daily carrie’s are a Wilson Combat ULC, a night hawk carry plus in .45, and a Shadow Hawk commander in .45, great video, great comparison, i’ll subscribe
It's a bit odd hearing someone be vocal about a dislike for two-tone firearms. All of my favorite guns are two-tone black and gray ironically. Wonderful display of firearms. I have been eyeballing the Counselor/Delegate as my next purchase. Looking for a carry 1911.
Now that you've had them a little longer any other insights on the SFX9 vs the Counselor? I have a EDCX9 and trying top decide between the two and probably leaning towards the Wilson. Also considering the Staccato C.
Well, I sold the Staccato C cause the Counselor is so nice I didn’t shoot the C anymore but the Wilson is 15 rounds and shoots just as well. It’s hard to decide on one or the other.
Popped up in my feed while researching Wilson. The X9 series, you pick the model, is to me a heck of an upgrade over polymer. The thing is it appears to be very successful. I hope Wilson doesn't go the way of a lot of polymers. There are several all metal hammer fired pistols out there that are excellent choices at half the cost. i leave the value choice up to you. About the finish. Correct me if I'm wrong. I found that the finish treatment process is unique. I have considered the all Armor Tuff with choices of color options. If I need a super duper fancy cerakote pattern $$$. I'll pick that. The DLC is intriguing. DLC coatings.with Wilson are applied only to Steel. The steel is first parkerized then the DLC applied. The Aluminum is Nitride coated before any other finish. Wilson sends out for the DLC coating work. This is where I get a bit hung up. I've read that DLC can be applied to non ferrous metals, Aluminum fits that. Why Wilson does not do that is a question. I've seen DLC coated pistols with 3k plus round counts that are consistently carried. They look brand new. Its the process of applying the DLC. Think the same type of coating on a lot of AR bolts. As you can surmise, this struck a nerve on my consideration for this line from Wilson. Great vid. Sorry to be long winded.

There are two separate firearms markets in the US. For California, New York, Mass and several other states that restrict magazine capacity, the 15 round capacity is not relevant. In those states the traditional 7 or 8 round single stack is still the most desirable concealed carry. Fat double stack magazines pinned to only hold 10 rounds are a waste.
If you have normal size to large hands go with the 15 round SFX9. I had 2 other X9S’s because I like the gun so much but just couldn’t grip the gun. Had 2 fingers hanging over the bottom of the 10 round.
