This pistol sure did surprise me! Lol I have spent more and have gotten a lot less with other companies. Even with other Wilson Combat pistols, they more or less still feel like a 1911 or Sig 320 but with better performance. But the SFX9 feels like nothing else I have shot before.

I picked up a four inch a month ago and i really like this pistol,Wilson improved on so many things from the original Browning design but still maintained the great handling of the 1911,the bull barrel without the bushing, the plunger tube which is machined into the frame, the non-grip safety of the beaver tail, the flat recoil spring and the elimination of grips/screws and bushings that come loose at the worst time and the none dove tailed front sight that can be changed without the need of a sight pusher tool and the very nicely done trigger face which is rounded perfectly with no sharp edges.Well done Wilson!

hi there. so, your comment is 4 months old now.. how are you liking the gun? do you carry it every day and how concealable is it? i'm a shorter guy with smaller hands and here in the desert it's mostly shorts and t-shirts so, i'm concerned about printing/size of the weapon.

@@SinCityVillain I work from home so I don't carry every day, but when I do, I find it very concealable, plus the grip is amazing! I liked it so much I bought a 4" to shoot Steel Challenges with. Honestly the 3.25" is very controllable. I practice with 124gr NATO (which is +P), because my carry ammo is Federal HST 124gr +P so recoil wise it is not a problem. Can definitely shoot a couple hundred rounds through this gun without it being an issue. I am an average size guy 5'9" and 175 and I don't have a problem with it. Probably less so with this gun than a Glock 19. I have not gotten warmer weather yet so during the summer I will know more.

I love my 3.25” 10rd SFX9, but some feedback I’d offer is having a wider selection of modern kydex holsters for AIWB and IWB. It’s a bear finding anyone who makes holsters for your guns, and most of the options Wilson offers are leather holsters which are a no go for me in terms of long term retention and security. I’ve also noticed a lack of light holsters even from Wilson, why have a rail on the subcompact if you don’t offer any holster that will accommodate accessories? I also believe for the price (which I’m happy to pay) more mags should be included. A single 10 and 15 round mag just feels paltry after an investment like this.

I started buying Wilson’s long before I had the money to do so by not buying other guns and using a dealer that offers layaway. You place your order, a small deposit and then pay a little here and there - sometimes these guns can take months and months to arrive at your dealer and then your layaway starts! It’s a long game but almost anyone can get one, just takes a lot of time and patience. I have Wilson standard 1911’s as well as the EDC X9 which is this gun with slim G10 panels - I have the SFX 9 on order (virtually the same gun with the only difference being the SF has no panels. I can say it is the best gun I have ever fired - absolutely incredible from the the 1911 perfect trigger to extreme reliability and accuracy only competition guns can match. It’s (for me) the only 9mm I will
    Ever need.

These are frames that are sized for 9mm.
I doubt we will ever see SFX guns in 45ACP/10mm size.
You are also not going to see long slide 1911s over 6 inches these days.
I suppose you could have an exposed barrel as long as you want.
But I've never really seen any factory options like that.

    • @cliftonwilliams766
      @cliftonwilliams766 2 роки тому

@@tylerwilliams6022 Thanks Tyler! I was thinking along the lines of the "thinner" frame concept. I once owned and thoroughly enjoyed a Grizzly WinMag in .45 magnum that I carried in a shoulder holster attached to my 6500cc expedition pack on extended trips in areas of the world where that tree toppling caliber in a pistol was a preferred carry over a much larger and harder to handle and keep at the ready scout rifle in a similar heavy caliber for nasty bigger boogers that I could have realistically encountered, there! At 53 oz empty with an extended 7.5 in barrel, the Grizz was damn heavy to tote. A design as being discussed here in today's bear stomper 10mm with 220 grn lubricated hard cast bullets would be a much more likeable carry?

@@tylerwilliams6022 Do you understand that Wilson Combat has made 1911 models in 10mm, 45 .acp and .40 s&w. A 10mm version with a double stack magazine not unlike a Rock Island 1911 10mm double stack would be quite useful.

    • @tylerwilliams6022

      @@cliftonwilliams766
Oooo, I've been interested in Grizzlies more recently.
I go back and forth on wanting one in 44mag or 45Win.
44mag for factory ammo availability or 45Win for a more reliably feeding round.
Myself looking for a single stack 10mm for woods carry, I have come up with a few good choices.
For a 5inch 1911, I like the Springfield Armory Ronin 10mm. (Another good choice would be a Ruger 10mm 1911. Adjustable rear sight and heavy bull barrel.)
Dan Wesson makes some good 1911 models with a 6inch longslide.
(I would love a 7inch longslide like the AMT Javelina. But they were unreliable with a crappy stainless steel construction.
This same model in 45ACP was in the original Terminator movie. But instead of a large laser sight, Imagine a scope mounted on the 7inch longslide 10mm.)
A departure from 1911s, but still a single stack would be a Sig P220 in 10mm.
They can be had with a single action or DA/SA fire system. Along with adjustable rear sights and longslide options.
An older used but good 10mm would be the S&W 10 series such as the 1066 or 1076.
I prefer the 1076. It has like a 4.5 inch barrel with a Sig style decocker.
These were stainless DA/SA guns with an 8 or 9 round mag I believe. (I am quoting some of these specs off of the top of my head. But they are at least close if not right on.)
You ofcourse also have your double stack polymer striker fired options like the Glock 20, S&W M&P 10mm, and the new Sig P320 10x.
Some semi custom options are to have conversions done to popular 45ACP guns without factory 10mm options.
Two that spring to mind are the CZ97 and H&K USP.
The CZ97 can be had from their custom shop, while the USP is more of a "Do it at your own risk" type of conversion.
I myself had a stainless Colt Delta Elite 10mm in government configuration which I foolishly sold.
I think for getting back into the 10mm world, I am either starting with a SA Ronin or Colt Delta Elite. Just like the one I sold.
If I were to go double stack polymer, it would be a toss up of either a Glock 20 or S&W M&P 10mm.
Can't beat a dead reliable striker gun with. 15+1 rounds of hardcast 10mm on tap.
If not rolling your own I prefer Underwood ammo for factory 10mm.
Buffalo Bore is some pretty hot stuff too.
Just stay away from the more mainstream budget ammo when it comes to 10mm.
Most of that stuff is barely loaded to 40S&W velocities.
Anyway, sorry about the long read.
Just figured I would share my thought process on picking a new quality 10mm pistol.

NJ and MA require a 10 round mag limitation. I'm interested in an SFX9 or an SFT9, but with a 4" or 4.25" barrel and 10 ROUND MAG CAPACITY. Does Wilson make such a gun? If so, are extra 10 rd mags readily available?
Also would like X Tac grip pattern, a pic flashlight rail under muzzle, a left-side thumb safety, green front sight (tritium or not), and optic plate for possible future use (would the plate work for Holosun?).
Last question: If only 15 rd mags available for 4" or 4.25" barrels, can my gunsmith pin mag to bring it down to the max 10 limit in NJ and MA making it legal in those two states? Thanks. This would be my ideal gun.

Very few guns in the $400-$600 price range are unreliable. I've fired dozens of different makes and models and the reliability issues I've seen are normally in the $200-$400 range. I've only had one pistol over $400 that had reliability issues, and it was a design flaw, not a QC issue. After $700 or so, you are paying mainly for ergonomics, improved sights, and other small features that aid in accuracy and speed (like an improved trigger reset bar). Also, for conceal carry guns, smoothing out edges (like Langdon Tactical's "carry bevel") and stuff is just nice if the gun rubs against raw skin when IWB.

Do these use proprietary mags or 2011 mags? Are the bushingless designed bull barrels rated for +P+ ammunition?

    • @John1911
      @John1911 2 роки тому +1

These use a dedicated 9mm mag tube based off the PPQ. Made by the same Italian company that makes a lot of mags.
These mags are cheaper than MBX By a long shot. More durable than any 2011 mag. And MUCH smaller, enabling the frame to be smaller.
5” models have a bushing. The shorter models are bull/cone.
These guns handle any +p, duty or 124g NATO ammo you want to feed them.
We have well over 8000 through one (x9L) currently.

Is it possible to order just the frame ? I heard you say the top end is the same. I would imagine a lot of us that all ready own a edc x9 would love the option to swap the frame out to try the new sfx frame, being able to just quickly swap rails. It would greatly increase sales as well. (in my opinion)

    • @John1911
      @John1911 2 роки тому +1

IMO probably never going to happen. The X-frame and it’s magazine tube are optimized for the size of the 9mm.
Making one in 45 would require a complete redesign and retooling. For a gun that is essentially a 2011 frame.
The fundamental weakness of all the 2011 format 9mm guns is they are still frame sized for 45. That adds a lot of useless bulk to those guns.
The whole philosophical point of the X-Frame was to get rid of that and just make a dedicated 9mm frame.
But…Bill’s hinting around at something, so maybe I’ll have to eat my words. 🤷🏼‍♂️
