We saw this case in our "Corporate comunication" class in uni. What united did was making an administrative loop in order to tire the guy into giving up and there's lots of companys who do that and our proffessor told us that "you always have to one up those guys"

I had united double charge my account for tickets to come home for Christmas on leave from the uk. I’d saved every penny to pay for those tickets. They put me $4k into overdraft and I ended up having to wait 2 weeks to get reimbursed. I had to take out a loan to be able to pay for food and and fuel to get back and forth to work for 2 weeks

A gate check is a lot of the times the only option you have other than a regular check. Usually gate checked items will be handled carefully and loaded last.

That first flight, there was a hairy moment where I thought I might have to check it below while I waited right outside the plane door, but thankfully the crew found room for it. Never hurts to ask. Was able to take it in the cabin all 5 times and 4 of those, it fit right in the overhead compartments. The 5th time, they found room in a storage closet near the front of the plane for me. Just ask the crew at the door, and if there's room, they absolutely will let you bring it in. 😁
