  • In this video, I show you how to set up a session so you can create EDM music more quickly - you can find the project folders for this and a more advanced template (true to Virtual Riot's track structure) at the following link:

I based "EDM_Sidechaining_2" off of the track structure seen in this video by Virtual Riot:

Omg i finally understand busses in reaper, no one every explains you have to mute the send to the master. then have just the bus sending to the master. Thanks for the video. Now I can go back to the pro tools video how to use Vocal Rider properly, I have it where the music is side chaining into Vocal Rider, and Vocal Rider is on the main vocals as the last plugin as a fader rider automation... I figured out how to set Trim to write and set vocal rider to write to have it actually write automation based on the music being side chained into the plugin. But, I saw everyone doing it with pro tools using Aux sends and busses. It never made sense in Reaper until you just showed how you just mute the track sends to the master . thanks , that was like one of the most helpful things i have seen in a year. there are a lot of details to using reaper but it is really good.

Yooo! Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply, but I'm glad to hear this helped. I found out about that function when I was working on a way to get my audio input to control a video game. Weird stuff, lol, but it made a lot of things click.
100% agree there are a lot of details in Reaper, but I love that it's a "If there's a will, there's a way" kind of program. Hope you're having fun!

@@ReaperTutorials I have recently learned to make custom banks for reaticulate, no one is really teaching it online how to write custom banks, it is super easy. I was thinking of making a short video how to do it. thanks for the reply

Idk anything about production , and ppl on internet say that I should go for something like fl or live for edm production not REAPER cuz of limited resources , most of the reaper users seems to be more inclined towards recording stuffs . And they use some terminologies I can't understand . What should I do , should I switch to some other daw for learning EDM ?

Hi! It’s probably going to be easier to use fl or live to start with if you know you’re going to be doing EDM production exclusively. It’s not that you can’t do it in Reaper, but I’d say that there are likely more resources and presets geared toward EDM in fl or live.
I agree with you that a lot of the terminology can get confusing, it’ll come with time :)

what does it do ? i am confused about this sidechaining

Hey, sorry it took awhile to get back to you on this. Easiest way to explain is that a sidechain is going to "listen" to another track and adjust your plugin (whether it's EQ, Compression, etc.) based on what it hears in that other track.
Let's imagine two tracks: Bass and Guitar. A sidechain EQ would be placed on the Guitar track (We want the EQ to affect the Guitar track). The sidechain EQ would "listen" to the bass, and if the bass goes above a certain volume threshold, the EQ will lower the bass frequencies in the Guitar track to make some room for the bass.
      -----
That's a simple example of what a Sidechain could do, but the general concept is that Sidechain can update parameters in your plugin based on what it's receiving from another track/tracks.
