    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 2 місяці тому

      Hmmm is it sending to inputs 3-4? Or 1-2? If it’s going to 3-4, you just need to switch the input inside of the compressor plugin to “Auxiliary L/R” I’m also not at my computer so that might be a little wrong, but definitely should be sending to 3-4 on that track

    • @slayabouts

    great video. is it possible to automate this effect?

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 2 місяці тому

      Yes! Depends on what you want to automate, but you can do a few things: - automate the “send level” of the track that is the source of the side chain to increase the intensity of the pumping effect. - you can automate any part of the compression effect. Sharing another video here that will walk through how that works: ua-cam.com/video/EWKp02kgOyo/v-deo.html

    Surely if you are strumming on guitar there is no way to split that?

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 2 місяці тому

      It would be difficult, dynamic split will probably give you a lot of bad splits. For that, I’d probably use “stretch markers” for minor tweaks.

    i only mix rap songs, i saw someone using a sidechain eq what does it do ? i am confused about this sidechaining

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials Місяць тому

      Hey, sorry it took awhile to get back to you on this. Easiest way to explain is that a sidechain is going to "listen" to another track and adjust your plugin (whether it's EQ, Compression, etc.) based on what it hears in that other track. Let's imagine two tracks: Bass and Guitar. A sidechain EQ would be placed on the Guitar track (We want the EQ to affect the Guitar track). The sidechain EQ would "listen" to the bass, and if the bass goes above a certain volume threshold, the EQ will lower the bass frequencies in the Guitar track to make some room for the bass. ----- That's a simple example of what a Sidechain could do, but the general concept is that Sidechain can update parameters in your plugin based on what it's receiving from another track/tracks.

    Wouldn't this work the same way as "Save as..." and checking "Create a subdirectory for project" and "Copy all media into project directory"? The way it's described in the video, it's just about keeping audio files in a separate subfolder rather than the same directory as the project file.

    Thanks very much for this. I have hit a problem with rendering stems, and cannot find the answer anywhere, and am hoping you can help me. I have a test project, which is only 1.24 long; two of my tracks are that long, but the other two are much shorter - only 16 seconds each. When I render the tracks (whether individually or not), using 'Selected Tracks (stems)' - 'Time Selection', the 16 second tracks all end up being 1.24 long - i.e., they have 1.08 silence after the audio has finished. I have played around with other settings, and always get this result. I would be very grateful if you have any ideas to solve this - I just want the exported/rendered stems to be their actual lengths - i.e., 1.24, and 0.16. Thanks.

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials Місяць тому

      Hi, I'm sorry it took me such a long time to get back to you on this. A few options for you here, depending on how your project is laid out. If your 'Tracks' are all using different effects, and need to be rendered with those different effects, you could use the 'Selected Items' dropdown. If your Tracks can all use the same effects, you can put them on a single track, add 'Regions' (which are basically Markers with a start/stop time) and use the "Region Render Matrix" to render all those Regions. ------------ Some of the ways I've used each of those options - I've used the 'Selected Items' option when I'm recording sound effects that I'm going to include in a sampler, it lets me just select the items I like and render them - I've used the 'Selected Tracks' option when I am sending my stems to someone else for mixing/remixing, so all the tracks can be dropped right in. - I've used the 'Regions' option when I'm doing session recording work (multiple recording cues that need exact timings, but I'm only recording bassoon). In this case, it's a huge time suck to open a new project for each cue, I'd rather have them all in one place so I can re-render easily, if needed.

    what if the Error pops up when I try importing .wav files?

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 5 місяців тому

      Ooo that's a tricky one. .wav files usually work out of the gate. I'd start with uninstalling and reinstalling Reaper just to make sure you get a clean install. If it's still going on, you may check to see if you can open WAV files anywhere else on your computer (media players, etc.). If it's not opening anywhere else, it's going to require some digging. Generally, if something like this goes wrong with an install, it's probably meaning that codecs were deleted, but hard to tell without going step by step to troubleshoot.

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 6 місяців тому

      Not sure if you're coming here because you're learning Reaper or wanting to shit on it, but I'll assume you're here with good intentions and are curious how you might handle stretching a note to fit. Three levels of difficulty: Does an individual note need to be generally longer? Slice around it, hold Alt on windows (probably option on Mac) and drag it out to time stretch the whole thing. Do you need to reshape the articulation? Add stretch markers at the attack/sustain/release points and drag them as needed, update the pitch shift algorithm and adjust the stretch marker fade size so it doesn't sound like a butt. Do you need to reshape a *LOT* of articulations? Use the dynamic split method, but assign stretch markers at the transients instead of splitting them. Then quantize stretch markers to the grid. --------- I set my option to 'Add Time Stretch Marker at Cursor Position' to Shift + W and it's really quick to add them where I need and move things around.

      Hmm that is a tricky one. Hard for me to tell without seeing them. Is it all the plugins that are failing, or just certain ones? My troubleshooting brain says to trust the error until we prove it wrong. Track down the VST locations on both computers and confirm there's no similarly-named VST in the VST3 folder. That's where I'd start. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    I’ll watch the other video. I tried to select 2 tracks, they became “inset” like yours, but only 1 showed up In my finished render. Also I need to learn what Wildcard means. But THANK YOU! This is exactly what I’ve been vexed by lately.

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 6 місяців тому

      Likely quick solution: Make sure your tracks don't have the same name, make sure you've got a wildcard that will make a different name when rendering, or check the box next to 'Silently increment filenames to avoid overwriting near the bottom left of the render window! ------ Longer explanation: The wildcard is really just going to dynamically change depending on the track. So in the video, the tracks are sitting inside a 'Parent' folder called 'BSN_WET', when I use the '$parent' wildcard, it replaces '$parent' with 'BSN_WET' when creating the new tracks. I wonder if the issue you're having is that your filenames ended up being the same. Let's say we have two tracks named 'BSN'. They are sitting inside a folder track called 'TRACKING' if we highlighted both of those, then tried to render using the 'Stems (selected tracks) option as your source. If you used the $parent wildcard like i did, then what the computer would try to render like this: Write TRACKING_BSN... Finished! Write TRACKING_BSN... It already exists, overwriting TRACKING_BSN... Finished! That's my guess, anyway!

      Some friends of mine were trying to figure this out, but unfortunately, we couldn’t figure out how to handle conflicts in the project file as people edit. It would be fun to pick up again, though. We were moreso trying to use GitHub repositories as collaborative storage, and be able to use branches to have a collaborator make edits, get notes/approvals/etc. before merging the changes into the DAW. It got complicated any time two people were working at the same time :( Have you looked at Bandlab, though?? That’s the closest I’ve seen to what you’re describing

    • @ReaperTutorials
      @ReaperTutorials 7 місяців тому

      Hey, sorry for the delay - I would test this out first before applying to existing projects, but you should be able to apply this to existing projects by: - Opening the original project - Clicking 'Save As' - Checking 'Create Subdirectory for Project' - Checking 'Copy all media into this project directory' You shouldn't need to convert or trim. - Save I say to use 'Copy' instead of 'Move' in case something goes wrong. The worst thing to deal with is a corrupted project file, so this will keep your original project (which is hopefully still working) and create the new one with all the audio files. If you test it out and it's working, you can delete the original project / audio. If you've got 4 years worth of projects to do this for. I'd ask how comfy you are with writing macros or scripting. It's going to take time to get them all done and converted, and I don't have a good method for doing these in batches yet.

Ah, for the drum pads, you can go into the midi editor directly and quantize from there. Try double clicking on the midi item and it will pull open a new window for you, then you should see some options at the top. One of them would allow you to quantize, but that's the place to go for MIDI!
