Dope video dude! Here is a nice tip for those using sidechain compression in electronic/hip hop: If sidechaining to duck a bass with a kick, filter the send so you're only triggering the sidechain with the high-frequency click of the kick, that way the compressor doesn't take so long to recover due to the kicks sustain, and you can fine-tune the release of the ducking and get it super tight, this way you can carve out the space you want without such a noticeable 'fade in' on the bass afterward.
That was one of the best and most useful explanations / demonstration of how to set it up, what it does for you and why you would want to use it, Well done Sir
Yess aknowledged by the goat!!. Your videos on eq automations are next level!! I have a question if I may!! I wanna sidechain bass and kick in 3 songs i'm mixing but I dont send it to a bus before the master, my bus is an ozone plugin on the master itself. How can I sidechain without destroying everything? Its dumb but I didn'nt know about sidechaining and bus tracks before I started mixing them! These mixes actually dont sound like complete noisy shit right now so at least I must be doing something right hahah. Thanks!
Wow. Thank you for actually showing HOW to do this step-by-step. You're like the only one I found that takes the time to go through the process slowly.
As a long time musician but brand new producer I have to thank you for these videos. I've watched dozens of others on YT but only yours have I actually found helpful and informative, structured in a way that beginners can understand. Highlighting the informative on the screen and explanations for production lingo, really excellent stuff. Thanks man!
Very helpful video that I have referred to many times. Sometimes Reaper won't let me drag the route button onto my master track's copy of ReaComp. Any idea why?
Myk you don’t look like you’ve aged a bit since I saw you last man. I know this video is about drum, but man the guitar track has some awesome fuzz to it. Totally digging.
Haha crazy story. Yeah man we need to catch up for sure! I’m still in the same area I was when I left town, so not too far away. If your number is the same, I’ll text you tomorrow.
Very interesting video. Can we use more than one auxilary inputs in Reaper? For examle I need to use two Reacomp plugins on one track with different settings. Each Reacomp plugin must receive sidechain signal from another two tracks. Lets say I have Pad track. I need ducking effect from clap and snare tracks. But from clap track I need 4:1 ratio in Reacomp, and from snare track I need 20:1 ratio in a second Reacomp. Is it possible in Reaper?
i "think" so, by adding more channels to ReaComp. Use the pin connector dialog to add a couple more channels, then assign, for example, channels 5 and 6 to Auxiliary Left and Auxiliary Right, instead of 3 and 4, and send the sidechain source to channel 5/6 Hopefully you can see this picture: i.imgur.com/smOSzG2.png
Great vid, thanks for posting. Do you or anyone here know if it's possible to do this with ReaXcomp? Been trying with no success. I know Fabfilter proMB can do this but it's pretty pricey. Thanks
To my knowledge, reaxcomp doesn't have side chain capabilities. TDR Nova is free and works well. Technically, it's a dynamic EQ, so there are some subtle differences in how it behaves versus a compressor, but given the price, it won't hurt to see if it'll work for you 😁 www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper thanks for the quick reply. I'll check that out. I also noticed after my post i found Waves has a multiband comp with sc capability for about $30. Thanks again, dude! 🤟🏼
Quick tip - if you're working with MIDI on either track be sure to set MIDI routing from All > All to None otherwise you'll be sending additional MIDI to the Receive MIDI instrument... ask me how I found this out!!!!!
been drinking plenty of it since I've been working from home. The Mrs requires it. I have no issue with caffeine addiction, so the lack of caffeine (read: significantly reduced caffeine) doesn't bother me. The lack of flavor profiles for decaf is bothersome, though :( Guess I gotta go with a good creamer.

Very clearly explained. Thanks!

Hey Mike, you're the only guy explaining reaper online that I can follow for more than 30s without loosing attention

never mind lol you explained everything
Ive watched many side chain vids and yours is the clearest explination. Thanks dude
The first method is how I have always done sidechain compression in Reaper, you've blown my mind with that second method!
You are so fluent with this, I’m so envious. Of course it could be my age (I’m almost 70 lol) great job on the tutorials 🎸🥁
Not hardly, I'm just an IT administrator with a hobby 😜
But thank you!

Nice video. Thanks for your hard work 👍
Goddamn that track is filthy. That is some choice tone impressed it's all js.
No Howard or did I miss him?

It's different, but my email is the same if you have that. If not, find me on FB long enough to get better contact info
Huh, didn't realise I could drag the routing directly onto plugins like that. Nice :D
Where's the "Buy me a toy robot" link?
